used to know a guy that has the software ,when i was doing my HYsis training, but i never considered it lucrative untill last month when a friend of mine got a mouth watering job at technip, just for knowing the basics, i kick myself 4 not taking the opportunity then to learn it (for free!!!), now the guy is in houston (bakerhughes for the same pdms training), however i know lonadek has the stuff, but i doubt if they can give u assess , unless u enrol with them for the training that is,
Man!!! PDMS is the in thing now!!, me too dey look for the thing joo.
Re: PDMS, Piping Designers And Piping Engineers: Lets Connect Here. by silvernice(m): 10:23am On Dec 14, 2009
thanks man. i really know that several oil companies use that as a major pre requisite before they employ engineers. well I've searched the net for free training but i guess it costs a lot and the books i have seen are for sale. sometimes you might need some one to put you thru. anyway i have one secret site where i get free training now though you will need to get some pictures of the stuffs they are taking about for you to undertand it better.

It's true.Lots of young graduates don't really know about these things.Well as a young graduate,I'm taking my time to study it as well as I can.

I also know PDMS is not restricted to piping alone, but also HVAC,and Electrical.Though I'm only into the Piping and HVAC modules of it.

@abyssone. Yes i get it.pdms is broad to an extent. I even know of vantage marine and vantage plant engineering but i need to know how i can get the software.aveva softwares are company based and cannot be easily gotten single handedly even at good price. Do u know any of the above aveva softwares or aveva review? I just came in contact wit aguy dat uses sp3d and im tryin to learn it now.

Well i am good at pdms and i have d aveva version that works. The software is much costly nowadays and most companies if they employ u will not allow u to take the software application home but work with it while in office. I got the training from a friend of mine while in school last year. What i intend knowing now is solidworks which is a modelling and design software
Re: PDMS, Piping Designers And Piping Engineers: Lets Connect Here. by Femicrux: 6:54am On Mar 28, 2012
If you are interested in learning solidworks, you can visit www.dapeeza.ws , i was trained at the organization. Infact, the person who trained me and also at the same time owns the establishment is a Certified Solidworks Associate. By the way there are only 4 people in Nigeria who are certified and he is one of them.

What is the difference between a piping designer and a piping engineer? Seems these days a lot of persons just claim they are pipers but really they do not possess the fundamental knowledge of piping let alone applying in while design piping systems. Your contributions are very vital.

Hi professionals, i'm a graduate of Mechanical Engineering with a strong ambition to working for oil and gas coy's. But all my effort towards my dream job, seems,so challenging to meet up with, coz i graduated with second class lower division and the said industry don't even think about giving graduates of my grade a chance at all, expect u av Masters degree to buttress ur 1st degree; which i dont av for now. But to meet up with this future dream of mine,i'm under a international certification welding programme sponsored by F.G in patnership with PTDF and NIW i.e:Nigeria Institute of Welding. This programme is to help train nigerians in pipe welding job which is applicable in the industry. The first phase of the programe is gone and we've been on break for the past 3months,hoping to be summoned for the 2nd out of the 3-phase programme.
Also, due to the long vacation,I thought of getting myself busy,so,I decided to scout for a temporary job. And luckly i got a structural engineering job with an engineering firm around my area, but, no pay for now. At least i'm gainning some field and design experience. But the dilemma issue i'm facing now is that i don't want to lose this present job opportunity of mine due to the present job situation in the country, even thou they are not paying me now, likewise,i want to av that certificate. My questions...

How relevant and useful are pipe welders in oil and gas industry?

Can I combine my basic Mech. Engineering knowledge(even thou i don't av any work experince in that field)with this structural thing?

Also,if i add this welder's certificate with my 1st degree in Mech. Engr, do i av a chance of getting employed with oil and gas coy's? Thanks
Re: PDMS, Piping Designers And Piping Engineers: Lets Connect Here. by silvernice(m): 1:41pm On Sep 13, 2012
I really appreciate your comments mobiss and i would like to congratulate you on the efforts you are making in order to increase your productivity. Really pipe welders are very valuable to the oil and gas industries. Majority of the pipe welding jobs come from the oil firms and other oil servicing and maintenance companies too. Its a big advantage to possess such skill and as an engineer a plus to your practicality. I really belief engineering is all about practice and so having such hand skill will be of great benefit.
As a matter of fact a 2.2 does not deter you from being what you want to be. Adding a welders certificate to your degree would serve as an advantage especially if you are focused on obtaining working experience in companies and industries tat require pipe welders. Do not forget that mechanical engineering is a broad engineering discipline and pipe fabrication and welding is also an aspect of it just as much as plumbing is. I studied manufacturing engineering , another branch of mechanical engineering and presently i am into computer aided design, manufacturing and engineering. This also has relevance in the mechanical engineering also since i can create weld designs and reports using a CAM software and i am sure this is of high relevance to the pipe fabrication companies.

Put in your best and you stand the greatest chance of being who you aim to be.

I'm happy I found these thread. I'm a chemical eng'g graduate with interest in pipeline eng'g. I have learnt how to use Pdms and caeser II and I'm reading everything I can lay my hands on (Material) about piping/pipeline eng'g. Please I will like to know the difference between Piping and Pipeline eng'g. Though I've searched the web, all I got was the difference in distances, Piping (short distance) while Pipeline (long distance). Thanks

Please what advice(s) can you give a female engineer that wants to pursue a career in pipeline engineering?
Is it compulsory to do a masters degree in pipeline engineering?
Thanks

Firstly, most renowned companies dont discriminate on the basis of sexx when it comes to employment. Meaning that they give equal opportunities irrespective of whether one is male or female.

Secondly, getting a masters degree in pipeline engineering would only give you an 'added advantage'. Get to know the basics of pipeline engineering. Also learn the basics of subsea engineering because some pipeline pass through the sea and so these present different operating conditions.

Learn the softwares applicable (most guys would expect some level of proficency here, except you are being trained from the scratch)
Lastly, if you can, get some certifications.

Thanks.

As a beginner, start with AutoCAD. Its a general drafting and design tool. Then you graduate to learning how to use other pipe modelling and simulation software.

Hi Guys , please i need your advice on this.

I'm a mechanical engineering graduate working with a multinational manufacturing company as a maintenance engineer for 3 years now. However, i have a strong passion for engineering design(piping) and welding as required in the oil and gas sector. I was part of the people that took part in the NNPC/PTDF engineering design program about 4 years ago where we did modelling flare systems with aspen flarenet while some others did pipenet and HYSIS. I must say, i enjoyed it, the simulations, debottlenecking etc but i couldnt break into the industry despite my attempts then. But i still want a career in that field. Please house, how do i go about it? Which relevant trainings and certification should i go for? Is it PDMS, Piping etc? How long is the duration of these programs? where will i get the trainings and how will i break into the industry? Please i need your help. Tanx.

I open a thread a while back on this, but got little response. I thought there were no much people with the knowledge here, I guess I was wrong.
I also share the zeal that so many of you do, I searched through the internet high and low for PDMS and when I finally got it and downloaded it, it wasn't easy if I may add, it was close to 1.5GB. Anyways, downloaded and installed it, only to find out I could not run it, gave me some funny message.
Its says it was for my company, so I need to use a registerd system, its also talking about some flexMan stuff..
It take a screen shot ad attach it to this post. Maybe someone here can help me out.

I am now looking for solid works. Any infor would be of great help. Thanks..
