The notorious Abia Kidnap Kingpin (Osisi Ka Nkwu) was killed in a gunfight with Military Task Force some hours ago. He was killed in the jungles of Abia, not far from Aba. Trying to fight the Army head on. The kidnapper led by Osisi Ka Nkwu have terrorised the South-Eastern States of Nigeria for a long time and seemed above the law. Information reaching elombah.com indicates that two days ago, TRYON provided security intelligence which aided the military to attack Osisikankwu.

The military missed him on that occasion but got his armourer and recovered the following arms: 2 GPMGs, 3 RPG bombers, 20 pieces of RPG bombs, 93 empty magazines of AK47, 1 50 liters filled with live armunitions, 8 pieces of AK47 guns. Those hunting for him have have been in the bush since yesterday on the look out for him. But he was captured at last.

The elimination of this notorious Osisikankwu is significant for many reasons. At least it has sent a message to all other kidnappers who think that their strategy and elusiveness is impeccable to think again. They now know that run and hide, come rain, come shine, there shall be a day of reckoning. He was very lucky and perhaps some higher level connectors were also dam lucky that Osisikankwu was not captured alive. At least he would have been forced to reveal some of the highly placed individuals behind the kidnapping syndicate.

Osisikankwu had previously demanded for the amnesty that was granted to the militants in the Niger Delta be extended to him. But this morning a commentator joked that Osisikankwu's lawyer can now sue the military for the wrongful death of Osisikankwu and demand the amnesty to be paid to him and said "Good radiance for absolute nonsense".

Osisi ka Nkwu (Lord of the Forest) is rumours in some quarters to be one of the most notorious kidnappers in the South-East.

A son of the soil, his second in command, popularly known as ‘STONE, is from Imo State. Osisi Ka Nku lived in Ogwe, in the Asa area of the town, close to Aba. Reputed as the most violent and daring of the kingpins in Aba, Osisi ka Nkwu is said to have been an Orji (Orji Uzor Kalu) Boy. Aba resident often say that he was used by the politicians in Abia, most of whom came to power, and the leading politicians there know him.

The story of Osisi ka Nkwu reads like that of Asari Dokubo or Ateke Tom and the rest of those who later metamorphosed into Niger Delta freedom fighters. In fact, the Abia kidnappers called themselves freedom fighters as well.

But whereas the Niger delta ones were kidnapping oil company staff and expatriates, fighting the state and destryong oil facilities, with the problems of the Niger Delta in the front burner, the Aba kidnappers, used and dumped by politicians, robbed banks, kidnapped innocent residents, raped the women, killed and paralysed the city where there is virtually no government presence.

Osisi ka Nkwu had become a lord, Robbers and not freedom fighters. He is said to have three wives. He built his home in his village at Ogwe area, now called his camp. He lived among the villagers. They knew him and feared him. But they were powerless before him. He is said to have children, and that he ran away with his family.

This was until President Jonathan Goodluck sent men of the Nigerian armed Forces to Imo andAbia State to flush him out. The People of Imo and Abia States people now have another reason to breathe a sigh of relief. Bad Boys can run, but they cannot hide

Commentators say society would have been better served if he had been captured alive and investigations into his links and covert sponsors conducted. But to do that would have required his cooperation.

Good news

We don't need this type of freedom fighters in the SouthEast.

Politics is the answer not violence.

No where

They should go and look for work. Everyone else is feeling the pain of poverty. Nobody should take laws into their hand.

They should go and find something responsible doing. I have families in Aba who relocated because of these fools.

If you are not happy with your Govt, help defeat them at the polls in the next election. These group of boys after engaging in criminality in the name of freedom fighting, when election comes they aid the very people they claim to be fighting against to rig election once again.

I think it would have been better they capture him alive & make him reveal his allies and sponsors.I suspect JTF must have conspired with the state govt to kill this guy so that he wont be able to expose the state government officials who have used him in the past ie if the guy they killed is the real Osisi.

while some applaud this, let us not forget that we are raped, killed, and maltreated daily, by useless politicians, in my opinion they are far more dangerous that this crook.

A society that does not function gives birth to this sort of crime. Last week it was the bombing of a village in ND, today the killing of a kidnapper. by the way Atiku, Ibb, uduaghan are still walking free. What is the difference between this guy and those big thieves?

The difference is that the vices of Atiku, IBB, Orji as bad as it is people went about their private businesses and worked hard to put food on the tables of their families. Osisikankwu whatever he thinks he believes in prevented people from pursuing their private lives. This fool informs landlords in Aba when he is coming and demands any amount he likes, if they come to your house after collecting money they screw your wife.

So it is very ridiculous to compare Osisi or any militant with corrupt politicians. While the activities of politicians may have contributed to this insecurity, condoning the likes of Osisi is simply sucidal to any society. he is a common criminal and must be treated as such.

The landlords he was attacking in Aba made their money from their own sweat. Osisi can go to Govt house and attack Govt officials if thats his problem.

anybody disturbing the peace of ordinary folks is a thief.

McKren

Whilst i appreciate that the said Kidnappers deeds were terrible. believe me, thet dont come close to Atiku, Ibb, and co.

Dont forget that the actions of Atiku and co, brought rise to the likes of this commomc thief. So whilst we succeed in getting rid of this one, more are likely to take his place.

It is called "dealing with crime and the causes of crime". the causes of crime still exists, so what is to stop another one from rearing its ugly head.

this is the same issue that has plagues countries that have to fight the mafia or drugs lords. You fight the cuases of crime, you are more likely to win the war on crime

So should we allow Osisi to run haywire until you send IBB to jail?

@McKren,

That is not my point.

have we dealt with the causes of unrest and crime? now if we havent, whats is to stop another crook, just as bad or even worse from surfacing.

The current climate in Nigeria will breed all sorts, whilst this crook might be gone today, i see no change in climate to suggest that things are likely to be better.

is it today they started killing armed robbers in Nigeria? dont they still exist.

My brother as long as we are not prepared to faced up to the hard choices, we continue to scrape the surface and celebrate very weak short term victories. can you really confirm that the Threat of kidnapping has gone away?
Re: Osisikankwu,dead? by redsun(m): 9:09pm On Dec 12, 2010
He was a nigerian styled of Robin Hood with no sense of justice, robbing and raping the poor, instead of th other way round.

He was just as undesirable as the politicians.
Re: Osisikankwu,dead? by McKren(m): 9:16pm On Dec 12, 2010
Osisikankwu is not the only person suffering bad leadership in Nigeria.

Others are suffering too and have made other choices.

A thief is a thief it is that simple, there is no excuse.

A thief in America can claim that until America arrest Osama Bin Laden he has a right to steal or commit other crimes; a criminal in Britain may say until the Royal Family stops living off everyone elses taxes he wants to keep stealing.

The world does not work like that. IBB failed as military dictator but he also left office 20years. This country has capacity to move on and this idea of blaming IBB or any past President for the life of a petty thief in Abia State is simply defeatist.

We have current politicians failing us right now, do something about it if you don't like their service, vote them out of office in 2011. Let us stop taking excuses for common thieves.

This is simply condoning criminality and a behaviour like that has no place in Igboland. Boys are doing well from buying and selling and driving good cars against all odds. So Osisikankwu and his type should go and look for something to do. He is not the only one feeling the  impact of failure of govt.

If he is not happy with Govt he should work to elect a new govt, no need to visit criminality on ordinary folks in the name of avenging the crimes of IBB.

What about his disciples? Did they kill them too?. This is why I don't see this as winning because his disciples will soon regroup and choose a capo. The same question I asked when people here were rejoicing that Adedibu is dead. If the points man is dead, that does not annihilate his crime empire.
Re: Osisikankwu,dead? by sochan: 9:50pm On Dec 12, 2010
@Aloy-Emeka,

Well said. Killing one crook does not solve the problem in Nigeria. This a real hollow victory, and who claims it? the people or the politicians? This is one notorious robber in Aba, but what about other parts of the country?

The current climate in Nigeria is breeding all sorts. There is kidnapping, Millitancy, Boko Haram, Corrupt politician.

Get good government in place and you are aready half way to fixing these issues. But kill one thief today, and another will come up today.

You dont deal with crime and the causes of crime, then your fight is useless,
Re: Osisikankwu,dead? by McKren(m): 10:16pm On Dec 12, 2010
if another comes up tomorrow you battle them, it is a battle of will and no serious society should give up hope to thieves.

There is no need looking for all soughts of excuse to condone criminality.

We should npt surrender to criminals.
Re: Osisikankwu,dead? by Kobojunkie: 10:23pm On Dec 12, 2010
This 'shoot first, ask questions never' approach to crime solving is not going to help us. It did not solve the Boko Haram problem, and I doubt it will solve the Abia crime problem.

You mean it is more appropriate to pet these criminals and allow them make jest of our judiciary like the mafia did to the US judiciary in the 70's and 80's?
