coogar: stop lying..... the only reason we are discussing this is because you lied rio had made 5 defensive errors this season. OPTA stats proved you are a compulsive liar. they do not have such stats on their data - so next time, name your statistics nihi stats so you don't confuse others with your guguru & epa stats you contrived to pull out from a baboon's arsê
stats are principally for the people who can read it logically, not people like yourself with a bag of emotions. has rio committed any defensive error for QPR this season like you claimed? a reputable organisation tasked to monitor such statistics says no - who the fück are you to dispute it?
statistics are facts! error personified on the pitch is a matter of opinion. opinions are not facts. so stick to your opinion & i would stick to the facts. we are polar opposites! I dare you to reproduce the post where I said Rio had "5 defensive errors" like you claimed. Now you have been floored by logic, you want to resort to inane pedantry. What I said, and insist on, is that Rio is directly at fault for at least 5 of the goals QPR have conceded this far. You are the one that went to start bringing stats you don't understand into the debate |

coogar: it's not a defensive error - allow your logic to take charge of you for once. someone must have placed mangala in that situation in the first place. damned if he made contact with the ball, damned if he didn't make contact with the ball & that's a defensive error?
it's not - according to opta! only unforced errors count as defensive errors. if you are put in a situation where all your options would still lead to a goal, how is that a defensive error? a cynical human being like you should be asking why was the cross allowed in the box in the first place?
opta did not define it as an error - so it's not an error. terry's errors were defensive errors & so be it. go & start your own football statistics organisation & stop crying on the internet.
not every goal scored via own goal is a defensive error. not every penalty conceded is a defensive error. stop putting words in my mouth. each case is judged by it's merits.
unlike you, i apply logic....not emotions. you are too emotional for football. The only reason we are discussing this whole 'defensive error' malarkey is because you presented a chart showing Rio had made no defensive errors as proof that "Rio had still got it" What we are doing is showing you the foolishness of using such a stat in isolation as proof of a defender's ability as you have done. Statistically Rio has no defensive errors, but he is error personified on the pitch.... Statically Mangala has no defensive errors, yet he scored 1 and assisted 1 against his own team. |

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nihilist: 8:13pm On Sep 30, 2014 |
coogar: it depends on the circumstance. mangala was never in control of the ball when he scored an own goal. he didn't commit an unforced error.
rooney giving the ball away when he had control of the ball is a defensive error. he was completely in possession & his error was not forced. he decided to make a clearance that gave the possession back to the opponents which ultimately led to a goal.
because rio had no control of possession when the goal was scored - that was what i was telling you earlier about british pundits necessity to blame someone for every goal scored. sometimes, you just have to applaud the opponent's ingenuity.
who committed the defensive error when maradona dribbled past 6 defenders and scored in mexico 86. if you are confused, ask dayokanu to help you out. WTF is this rubbish? The man scored an own goal and kicked a man in his groin inside the box to give away a pen.... And your telling me that's not a defensive error. Ferdinand failed to mark his opponent that was stood next to to him who subsequently, and you are talking nonsense about 'unforced error'? Scoring an own goal is not an error, Conceding penalties is not an error. Can you not see that the defensive error stat is not suitable on its own to evaluate defenders? Seriously do you read the stuff you write sometimes? |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nihilist: 7:41pm On Sep 30, 2014 |
coogar: scoring an own goal isn't necessary a defensive error. a cross was made & mangala tried to clear the ball & the ball deflected into the net.
defensive error = a mistake made to give an opponent a big chance to take a shot on target. in mangala's case, he didn't give the opponent the possession to take a shot on target.
you gotta look at these things in perspective. It must be an offensive error. You mean Mangala can score a hattrick of own goals, and they won't register as defensive errors? How can you then use a lack of defensive errors to defend(pun intended) Ferdinand? |
|

rio ferdinand - no defensive error, no error directly leading to a goal in 540 league minutes. This is what happens when you rely on stats instead of your own two eyes. Rio Ferdinand is stood right next to James Chester in the box but failed to mark him during a corner....You think that would appear as a defensive error in the stats? |

50calibre: What I said was clear, " Nigeria is the only country I see entertainers scrambling for public offices " the key word here being scramble.
You've given 3 instances (occurred within a period of more than 30 years) I can give you 12 examples of entertainers turned politicians in Nigeria in the last 5 years.
So why the rush? Politics seems to be the next big thing for these guys, why? The list I gave is of entertainers who were able to successfully transition into a political career. That is not a list of entertainers who have 'scrambled' to get into politics, to borrow your phrase. That list would be extensive. Entertainers going into politics is nothing new, and is not the executive preserve of Nigerians. Anyway, to answer your question, there is an age requirement for most public offices in Nigeria, and a lot of these guys are coincidentally just attaining the required age, on the cusp of a general election next year, with campaign funds generated by their relatively lucrative careers. |

ElFenomeno1: Argue for no reason?
I cant get my head round your reasoning on this matter.
No one has said Rio is the player he used to be, i have my glasses on and i have sifted back and forth, no one has said he is the same.
Are you trying to tell me that because Rio is 36, he should retire?!
Do we expect Rio to be evergreen at 36?
Rio will perform well this season when that hurriedly put together team settles and if that Labrador looking Harry Redknapp manages him well to keep him fresh! I'm not sure you understand your own argument. If you are arguing that Rio can still play some form of professional football at lower league level, then yes you are right. But as that ESPN article notes, the man has been directly responsible for conceding at least one goal per game....If he can't do it at QPR, against Hull City and against Stoke, and particularly against Crouch, then that nigga needs to retire. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nihilist: 3:06pm On Sep 30, 2014 |
coogar: of course, QPR(without rio) made the top 4 the last time they were in the PL. they only got relegated because they fixed matches, isn't it? i am sure if terry moves to QPR tonight, they will keep clean sheets till the end of the season.
he will.....because he has a world class ball controlling skills. peter crouch has one of the best first touches as an english player & his close control ability is second to none.
he would remove kompany out of the way with ease. no defender is immune to getting punished. the difference is - defenders from top sides can always count on their strikers to score quick goals & destroy the morale of their opponents so you are more likely to see a demoralised crouch against man city because stoke would have conceded 3 goals before crouch has even warmed up. Do you even read what you write? Crouch will remove Kompany with ease? Rio is directly at fault for at least 5 of the goals QPR this season and indirectly complicit in the rest. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nihilist: 2:48pm On Sep 30, 2014 |
I don't see why it's illogical to admit that a 36 year old man, who has spent the greater part of his career subjecting his body to the rigours of football at elite level, is no longer close to being the player he once was. Some people just like to argue for no reason at all. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nihilist: 2:45pm On Sep 30, 2014 |
Coogar, like I said before, Ferdinand does not look bad because he plays for QPR. QPR look bad because he plays for them! See ESPN's take on Rio Ferdinand was supposed to be marking James Chester when he headed home the only goal in Hull's 1-0 win over Rangers on the first day of the season and he was just as bad as everyone else around him in the matches against Tottenham and Manchester United when they conceded eight and scored zero.
Stoke striker Peter Crouch also out-paced and out-fought the former West Ham man on occasions last week and, on Saturday, Graziano Pelle gave Ferdinand a hellish time. The first goal the Hoops conceded came from the 35-year-old recapturing some of his old Manchester United form -- sadly not the vintage years.
His languid under-hit pass was cut out by Saints midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin who sparked the move that ended with Ryan Bertrand's goal opening goal. |

ElFenomeno1: Sentiments you say? lol .... He still has one or two years left in him.
He is an old head, agreed but he can do a job in at least a few top leagues around the world. What job? When Peter Crouch outpaces you as he did Rio 2 weeks ago, then you know that it's time to retire from the game and never look back...not even on TV |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Nihilist: 12:46pm On Sep 30, 2014 |
ElFenomeno1: I think you are a donut for bringing the crap above into this discuss.
Where is the fu...cking logic for donkey balls sake?!
We are picking up a defender here and taking him into a league where 70-80percent of the teams are wack.... then making a further comparison with the CBs that line up for those teams and judging whether Rio will walk into their teams or not.
This is not about what your gasbag colleague thinks, or the idio..ts who throng Loftus Road and their fan forums online, come up with! A grown man like yourself talking like a 2 year old. Anyway, take it or leave it, Rio Ferdinand is a washed up defender who wouldn't start at Iwuyanwu Nationale let alone Paderborn The only thing keeping him in a job at QPR is sentimentality |
