AdisaOwala: The next excuse is that Mancity has a structure and they buy/scout good players for Pep.
Like say no be here all of us dey when the same "structure" at city been dey buy flops like Graelish,Cancelo, Kalvin Philips, Benjamin Mendy etc, yet Pep didn't falter Don’t mind them. It’s all fallacies. Having a good manager is the main thing. Na Utd fans and ex players started the structure thingy. |

ChristoBam: If hiring and firing is the way we want to go, then we should forget about the league anytime soon.
No one's coming in to win this league in a short time. No one's coming in and hitting that 90 points mark without drilling the team over a few years. Every team that's competed for this league in the past 6 years stuck to one manager.
It's funny but that's what City has turned this league to. You need like 90 plus points to even stand a chance of winning. You said every team, when we all know it’s one team that has won the league in the last seven seasons. Pep won 6 out of 7. He is like or even better than Fergie. That’s the benefit of having a good manager who will win trophies regardless of what the administrators are doing, as long as there is money to buy players. The philosophy and style of the manager and Money trump whatever structure you are looking for. Tell me how many managers were hired and fired by City before they got Pep. If we continue to persist with mediocrity in the name of stability, we won’t win any major trophies for another decade. The earlier the better if we snap up any upcoming manager that is available, and check if they fit in, if they don’t, we sack them after 2 years except we are seeing massive progress with a 90% probability of winning a trophy the third year. That’s the name of the game. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by nitrogen(m): 10:03pm On May 22, 2024 |
afrodoc2: Even the Chelsea he mentioned have hired and fired about 5 times in the last 2 years and still have nothing to show for it, and that is because Boli and Egbami are 2 clueless people who dismantled the good structure that existed under Abramovic.
Bayern and Madrid have always had good structure in place. Chelsea could hire and fire successfully when they had a good structure. The moment the structure changed, hiring and firing stopped working. Anybody claiming hiring and firing means you should not have a good structure is a Glazer apologist and we know them by their tribal marks. What’s structure? Na structure dey determine formation and style of play? Almost everything is on the manager. Luck is when you get a good manager that will play good football and win trophies as well. The only way to be lucky is to keep hiring and firing. No matter what the admin part of a football club looks like, money and a good manager will do the magic. We just have not been lucky to get a manager that works for United. Until we do, we will keep on shouting structure structure structure. All we need to do is continue our search. If Pep decides to join Utd today, and we make 1 billion available to him, we’ll win the EPL in two years. Would/could an incompetent manager do that? |

Chelsea, Madrid, Bayern, etc have got no time for nonsense. You don’t do well, you are out! That’s why they end up winning major trophies. Dem don swear for man utd with structure, placements, stability, patience, etc like say those things guarantee trophies.
Hiring and firing every time is not a sin. |

main24: Nitrogen, if we had a good shot stopper, how would we have known ETH is playing haram football? Same thing DDG used in killing himself...he stopped so many shots, then when he had his bad days, we all put the blame on him. But was he the real problem?? Tbh, I am happy that we all could see that ETH is just not good enough. DDG was not the problem at all. I am sure with him as Keeper, we would have conceded fewer than 58 goals. But I agree that we need another goal keeper for whatever non defensive style ETH wants to implement. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by nitrogen(m): 1:57pm On May 20, 2024 |
DDG conceded 1.13 goals per game in 22/23, Onana did 1.57. Clean sheets 17 vs 9. Of course, he faced more shots than DDG, but the former has been normalized using number of games. Total saves to shots conceded is relatively the same.
I agree that another keeper is needed for ETH’s ‘style’, but we did not see any new style in the last two season, and DDG would have fared better due to the shitty system oga played this season. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by nitrogen(m): 1:20pm On May 20, 2024 |
Completely agree that if your team possesses the ball 70-80% of the time, then Onana would be okay. He won’t need to face plenty shots and can help with his passing ability while making occasional saves (as needed).
But this past season, we needed a proper shot stopper to avoid conceding stupid straight shot goals. Go check Onana’s 23/24 highlights na. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by nitrogen(m): 1:14pm On May 20, 2024 |
Leyqute: Claiming aerial balls as well, but that’s not as important as distribution.
Onana is outstanding in passing ability and distribution. No top team has a keeper who can’t distribute.
De Gea has better reflexes and shot stopping ability. Onana isn’t very much behind him in that regard but you can make the argument that there’s still a difference. How many points did his passing and distribution ability give us this season? DDG’s shot stopping ability would have been better for a team that faced 600 shots. Seems you have forgotten the stupid goals Onana conceded this season. Very shitty goals that cost us over 5 games. |

Leyqute: 3 of those who ensured his golden glove were injured for major parts of the year.
De Gea won’t do any better than Onana this season even though the later had a torrid start himself. Nawa o. DDG won’t do any better? Seriously? DDG was making game winning saves. No now. Sleep and death no dey the same level. God keep us alive for many decades. |

Unless their is a clause in his contract that say he can be fired without collecting kobo if He fails to qualify to Champions League. He has one year left on his contract. The compensation won’t be as hefty. Also, his salary just dropped to 6.75m from 9m because we won’t be playing UCL next season. |
