After more than a decade away from fiction, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is is making her long-awaited return with Dream Count, a novel that, she realises in hindsight, is deeply shaped by her mother’s memory.
In a wide-ranging interview with The Guardian, Adichie opens up about the emotional toll of public criticism, the struggle to reconnect with her creative self, and the profound impact of motherhood—including the surprise revelation that she recently welcomed twin boys.
I arrive early to meet Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the Nigerian-American writer, feminist, author of Americanah. Her home, just outside Baltimore, looks Scandinavian somehow amid the snow crust and woodland. Adichie is mid-photoshoot, but the stylist shows me through to the kitchen, telling me to help myself to roast chicken and rice. At a desk in the corner, Adichie’s nine-year-old daughter is wearing headphones and absorbed in what looks like homework. In the middle of the room, watched over by a nanny, are two smiling, 10-month-old boys, one sitting in an activity centre, shrieking with joy, the other gnawing a toy.

Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the President on Energy (Nigeria) clarifies:
I would like to clarify media reports suggesting an imminent 65 percent increase in electricity tariffs.
What I actually said: Following the increase of Band A tariffs, Current tariffs now cover about 65% of the actual cost of supplying electricity, with the Federal Government continuing to subsidize the difference.
The Federal Government is committed to fair electricity pricing, protecting vulnerable Nigerians, and expanding access to reliable power.
Right now, ₦200 billion per month is spent on electricity subsidies, but the wealthiest 25% of Nigerians receive the biggest share. To address this, we are working towards transitioning to a targeted subsidy system that ensures that low-income households receive the most support.
Additionally, we are commencing the nationwide rollout of 7 million prepaid meters, under the Presidential Metering Initiative, beginning this year. This will finally put an end to the practice of estimated billing, giving consumers confidence in what they are paying for and ensuring transparency in electricity charges.
Beyond that, we’re lowering energy costs by removing VAT and Customs Duties on cleaner fuel alternatives like Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)—offering Nigerians cheaper options for power.
We understand the economic challenges facing Nigerians and remain committed to ensuring that power sector reforms deliver real benefits to Nigerian homes and businesses.
While some artists showed up in their Sunday best for the award ceremony—including Sabrina Carpenter, who donned a baby-blue number by LOEWE’s Jonathan Anderson for the red carpet—others left much to be desired and had the internet asking questions.
Jaden Smith
Jaden Smith might have taken being a homebody a little too seriously. Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith’s son arrived at the 2025 Grammy Awards wearing a Louis Vuitton suit accessorized with a unique headpiece—a house-hat.
The castle diorama was designed by ABODI and is titled the “Vampire Castle.” It retails for roughly $4,402.80, a hefty sum but probably the cheapest a castle has ever cost.
The internet was quick to weigh in on Smith’s house-hat with one user joking, “Knowing Jaden Smith somebody prolly told him he’s living in his own head so he said bet.”
Bianca Censori
Kanye West’s wife Bianca Censori wore a statement piece to the 2025 Grammy Awards—her birthday suit.
The Australian model initially arrived at the red carpet wearing a fur coat, but she gradually slipped it off to reveal a completely sheer, skintight dress. Her outfit, or lack thereof, quickly initiated a stir online.
Julia Fox
Influencer and actress Julia Fox is famously allergic to blasé when it comes to style, and her look for Sunday’s Grammys was no exception.
The Uncut Gems star donned an oversized leather jacket with a black, sheer top and skirt made out of stockings. Along with a thong cameo, Fox also topped off the outfit with repurposed dish gloves.

Joy Villa
One of President Donald Trump’s most outspoken supporters, Joy Villa arrived to Sunday’s Grammys wearing another head-to-toe Trump-inspired outfit after previously showing up to the event wearing a MAGA dress, Trump 2020 dress, and a “Build the Wall” dress throughout the years.
The singer accessorized a gold, polka-dotted dress designed by Andre Soriano with a red cap similar to Trump’s MAGA hats with the quote, “The Hat Stays On’ embedded on it instead. She also sported a gold chain with an image of a dog on it reminiscent of the DOGE meme.
Chappell Roan
The Grammys were a big night for breakthrough artist Chappell Roan but unfortunately her hennin hat threatened to steal the spotlight.
The newly minted Grammy winning artist sported a series of quality looks throughout the evening, but one particular outfit may have missed the mark. While accepting the award for Best New Artist, Roan donned a pastel, curtain-esque dress paired with a pink princess hat.
“Why Chappell Roan wearing a dunce hat,” one user succinctly asked.
