To increase your odds of surviving a stampede, Good Morning America recommends the following:
If you see someone fall in front of you, yell, "Down!" and assume a protective stance, staggering your feet for balance and bringing your arms up to protect your heart and lungs. This can potentially save you from thousands of pounds of pressure.
If you do fall, try to get back up.
If you can’t get back up, protect your vital organs by lying on your side and covering your head with your hands.
An Air Canada flight, operating as AC2259 under PAL Airlines, skidded off the runway and partially caught fire at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Nova Scotia, Canada, on Sunday.
The flight was en route from St. John’s to Halifax. Initial reports indicated that a malfunction in the aircraft’s landing gear led to the incident. Thankfully, there have been no immediate reports of casualties.
As a precaution, Halifax airport was temporarily shut down following the accident, with emergency services responding promptly to the scene.
The incident occurred just hours after a deadly plane crash in South Korea. At Muan International Airport, a passenger plane with 181 people on board crashed, killing 85 individuals.
Many others are feared dead. The crash is being considered one of the worst aviation disasters in the country’s history.
Emergency officials reported that the aircraft’s landing gear malfunctioned, which is believed to have been a key factor in the accident. The National Fire Agency of South Korea confirmed that 85 people were found dead, and authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
Both incidents have raised concerns over landing gear malfunctions in aviation, prompting authorities to launch investigations into the causes of these failures. The air travel community is awaiting further updates on the situation in both Canada and South Koera.
A KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Oslo Torp Sandefjord Airport in Norway on Saturday, December 28, after a hydraulic failure forced the aircraft to divert.
The Boeing 737-800, operating as flight KL1204 from Oslo to Amsterdam, experienced a loud noise during takeoff, prompting the crew to take precautionary measures. The plane, carrying 176 passengers and six crew members, landed safely but skidded off runway 18 during the rollout, coming to a stop in soft grass near a taxiway.
Despite the unnerving incident, all 182 people on board were unharmed. KLM issued a statement shortly after the event saying “During takeoff of flight KL1204 from Oslo with destination Amsterdam this evening (28-12) a loud noise was heard. It was decided to divert to the airport of Sandefjord. After landing, the Boeing 737 veered off the runway into the grass at low speed.
“All 176 passengers and 6 crew members are unharmed and are being taken care of. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated.”
Passengers were evacuated using mobile stairs as emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to provide assistance. Authorities are working with KLM to investigate the cause of the hydraulic failure and runway incident.
Iranian authorities have lifted a ban on Meta’s (META.O) instant messaging platform WhatsApp and Google Play (GOOGL.O) as a first step to scale back internet restrictions, Iranian state media reported on Tuesday.
The Islamic Republic has some of the strictest controls on Internet access in the world, but its blocks on US-based social media such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are routinely bypassed by tech-savvy Iranians using virtual private networks.
“A positive majority vote has been reached to lift limitations on access to some popular foreign platforms such as WhatsApp and Google Play”, Iran’s official IRNA news agency said on Tuesday, referring to a meeting on the matter headed by President Masoud Pezeshkian.
“Today the first step in removing internet limitations… has been taken,” IRNA cited Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology Sattar Hashemi as saying.
Social media platforms were widely used in anti-government protests in Iran.
In September the United States called on Big Tech to help evade online censorship in countries that heavily sensor the internet, including Iran.
Video Showed Survivors Walking Away From The Crashed Plane In Kazakhstan
32 Passengers, Including Girl, 11, Survive Azerbaijan Airlines Plane Crash
Aktau, Kazakhstan Plane Crash: Among the 32 who survived the initial crash, five, including a 11-year-old boy and a 16-year-old teenager, suffered serious injuries.
New Delhi: Thirty-two people survived the initial impact of a plane crash in Kazakhstan's Aqtau city Wednesday afternoon. Twenty-two, including a 11-year-old girl and a 16-year-old teen, were hospitalised.
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergencies said there were at least 30 confirmed deaths. The plane - an Azerbaijan Airlines jet carrying 62 passengers and five crew - was flying from Baku to Russia's Grozny.
Fog at the destination caused it to be re-routed to Aqtau, which is around 1,800 km away. However, as the plane approached Aqtau International Airport an (as yet) unspecified crisis triggered an emergency landing request. Tragically the aircraft, an Embraer ERJ-190, never made it that far.
Initial reports suggest the plane was hit by a flock of birds, causing a possible steering malfunction and/or damaging one engine. The pilots tried to regain speed and altitude but the controls failed.
The Kazakh Transport Ministry said 37 of the plane's passengers were from Azerbaijan, six were from Kazakhstan, three were from Kyrgyzstan, and 16 were from Russia.
A video shared by Kazakh's ORDA news agency showed some survivors being helped out from under the wreckage; one shot showed an elderly man stumbling away with blood on his head, while another showed a young woman in a white coat wandering around the wreckage in apparent shock.
In the same video a young boy - his jacket stained with blood and dirt - is helped by an emergency services personnel. Meanwhile, in the distance the other half of the plane can be seen, still burning

Silekunola Moronke Naomi, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife who organised the event that led to the deadly Oyo stampede, has been remanded in Agodi Correctional Centre in Oyo State.
Naomi was arraigned alongside Oriyomi Hazmat, the chief executive officer of Agidigbo FM, and a school principal before an Oyo State Magistrate Court.
This was in connection to her botched food relief programme which led to the deaths of 35 children in Ibadan, the state capital, on December 18.
Fear gripped many on Saturday, December 21, after the stage at a Lagos show unexpectedly collapsed during Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, aka Odumodu Blvck’s performance at SoL Beach, Elegushi area of Lagos State.
Eyewitnesses shared videos on social media as they reported the sudden structural failure, causing the stage to collapse as fun seekers and crew members scrambled for safety.
IJGB is trending because the annual IJGb babes vs Lagos babes beef is here.
For the third year running, a Londoner has mounted camera to drag Lagos baddies for not ‘respecting’ her.
This time in a video, one Madam Joyce said, Nigerian girls are “jealous” and scared of her.
That, she went to an event and greeted eveyone, but the Lagos babes didn’t give her “worthy attention”. Because they thought she wanted to steal their men.
She concluded that, it’s not her fault that she’s “high profile” and also, it’s not “stealing” if the men are attracted to her because she’s clean and high profile.
IJGB means “I Just Got Back” it’s a term used for Nigerians who returned from diaspora for Christmas, to flex, party, fornicate and look all “high profile”.
This battle has been on between Lagos baddies and IJGB’s for some years, but got louder with social media.
Basically, the IJGB’s expect civilian babes to worship them as celebrities because they live in the abroad.
And Nigerians babes, permit me to say this in pidgin. — Nigerian babes not too send them again. And they are not having it, they can’t understand why.
US babes are chill, but UK? They can’t handle the snub.
Recently, Israel Adesanya too complained that, Lagos babes didn’t give him the energy he thought he deserved, instead they billed him. IJGB’s accuse locals of being rude, locals accuse them of being arrogant.
Parents who raise bullies always find a way to rationalize and defend their actions. The girl who pushed my son from the slide in school, which cost over 2m for surgery was asked to apologise by writing a note to him. Despite the obvious evidence of eye witnesses and confirmation by the girl that she did it, the mother insisted she didn’t do it. According to her, my daughter isn’t a bully and instead of apologising, she would rather withdraw her daughter from the school, which she did. Took her daughter away from the school to another school.
The second one was even captured by the CCTV. Hit his head against the window and it was swollen. Rather than the parent to take responsibility for it, the mother was being defensive. It was God that made me control my anger that day, if not, she would have heard it.
What made the matter so painful what the role of the school. Despite showing remorse and regretting their carelessness, we asked that they provided us with the details of the first girl that bullied our boy. We wrote them a letter and several follow ups, till this moment, they didn’t respond. The worst part was even when the school decided not to admit my boy for the new session. They deliberately excluded him claiming that since I was angry and threatened to take him out of the school if he’s bullied again, then they decided that they should not admit him into primary one. We had to enrol him in another school, unplanned.
It then occurred to me that it’s either the school management of TROIKA SCHOOL LEKKI was shielding bullies or have no control over them and their parents. But as a matter of fact, there are so many kids in that school bullying other kids. It’s like a dumping ground for some parents who have raised bullies. Because at every PTA meeting that I have attended, cases of bullying are always reported and addressed.
If not for my wife and my parents that made me to let go, I was prepared to fight it all with them. Since then, I have serious hatred towards bullies and their parents.
Shell has decided to invest in the Bonga North project, a deep-water oil and gas development off the coast of Nigeria. This project is expected to produce over 300 million barrels of oil equivalent, with peak production reaching 110,000 barrels of oil per day. The first oil is anticipated by the end of the decade.
The Bonga North project will be connected to Shell's existing Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility, where Shell holds a 55% stake.
This investment aims to sustain oil and gas production at Bonga, contributing to Nigeria's energy sector and supporting the country's economy.
Shell invests in Bonga North deep-water project, Nigeria
London − Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), a subsidiary of Shell plc, has announced a final investment decision (FID) on Bonga North, a deep-water project off the coast of Nigeria.
Bonga North will be a subsea tie-back to the Shell-operated Bonga Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility which Shell operates with a 55% interest.
The Bonga North project involves drilling, completing, and starting up 16 wells (8 production and 8 water injection wells), modifications to the existing Bonga Main FPSO and the installation of new subsea hardware tied back to the FPSO.
The project will sustain oil and gas production at the Bonga facility. Bonga North currently has an estimated recoverable resource volume of more than 300 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) and will reach a peak production of 110,000 barrels of oil a day, with first oil anticipated by the end of the decade.
“This is another significant investment, which will help us to maintain stable liquids production from our advantaged Upstream portfolio,” said Zoë Yujnovich, Shell’s Integrated Gas and Upstream Director.
Bonga North will help ensure Shell’s leading Integrated Gas and Upstream business continues to drive cash generation into the next decade.
Notes to editors:
SNEPCo (55%) operates the Bonga field in partnership with Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Ltd. (20%), Nigerian Agip Exploration Ltd. (12.5%), and TotalEnergies Exploration and Production Nigeria Ltd. (12.5%), on behalf of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).
Bonga is a deep-water development located in OML 118, at water depths exceeding 1,000 meters. Production at the Bonga FPSO began in 2005, with a capacity to produce 225,000 barrels of oil per day. The project produced its one-billionth barrel of crude oil in 2023.
The Bonga North development holds estimated recoverable resource volumes of more than 300 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe). These volumes are currently classified as 2P (proven and probable) under the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Petroleum Resources Management System.
The estimated peak production and recoverable resources mentioned above are 100% total gross figures.
The investment in Bonga North is expected to generate an internal rate of return (IRR) in excess of the hurdle rate for Shell’s Upstream business. Shell’s Upstream business continues to set new benchmarks in performance through near-field opportunities like Bonga North, leveraging technical expertise, strong partnerships, and a model built on simplification and replication.
Shell, Partners to Invest $5 Billion in Nigeria’s Deep-Water Oil
Shell Plc’s subsidiary in Nigeria will begin oil and gas production offshore at the Bonga North floating facility by the end of the decade.
Production should peak at about 110,000 barrels of oil a day, with 300 million barrels of oil equivalent recoverable from the area, Shell said in a statement on Monday. The $5 billion Bonga North project involves drilling, completing and starting up 16 wells.
