– The Nigerian army owes over N9 billion electricity debts – Monsur Dan-Ali, the defence minister has disclosed how the funds allocated to the military will be spent – Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, protested against the deduction of over N300m from the army’s allocation Reports suggests that the Nigerian Military owes well over N9 billion in electricity debts. The minister of defence, Monsur Dan-Ali, informed the House of Representatives committee on defence that a debt of about N9.4 billion has been accumulated over the years due to the failure of the services to pay their electricity bills. The Punch reports that electricity debts of the Army, Navy and Air Force were captured in the 2016 budget of the Ministry of defence, which Dan-Ali presented to the House in Abuja. The document also included the ministry’s judgment debts of N11.8bn. On the electricity bills, the document stated: “PHCN (defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria) outstanding debt. This is an accumulated debt for the services arising from non-payment of their electricity bills. “The amount involved is N9.4bn.” READ ALSO: 2016 Budget: FG makes U-turn, admits budget was filled with errors Out of the N16bn proposed as capital vote for 2016, the sum of N11.8bn was earmarked for “judgement debts.” The budget states that the balance will be used to fund 31 projects for the military this year. Another N2.7bn was proposed in favour of the closure of Giwa barracks in Lagos. The document also revealed that: “N2.7bn is proposed in the 2016 budget to settle the claim arising from court injunctions for forceful closure of 269 shops at Giwa Barracks, Lagos, in 2007.” In the same vein, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai protested at a separate session with the House Committee on Army, that the deduction of over N300m from the army’s allocation quarterly to offset its share of the accumulated electricity debts. He complained that the Ministry of finance made the deductions at source from the army’s allocation, saying the development had been affecting the army. “We are paying over N300m quarterly. “The ministry of finance should stop the deduction,” the COAS said. However, members of the committee were more concerned about the welfare and safety of soldiers deployed in the northeast to fight Boko Haram. The chairman of the committee, Mr Rima Shawulu, said the ongoing controversy around the misapplication of the $2.1bn budgeted for arms procurement had exposed the weaknesses in the procurement processes of the federal government. Shawulu called for a review of the processes to guard against abuses in the future. “The welfare and the safety of these young men should be uppermost in our minds. “We have toured the military barracks and formations in the country, what we saw there was appalling, to say the least,” he said. He added: “We have to improve on their welfare and boost their morale.” Buratai, however blamed the decay in the barracks and other services on many years of neglect. “Since I assumed office last year, I have started some projects in the barracks. “Major renovations are going on and we want to sustain the tempo,” the army chief said. https://www.naij.com/727052-outrageous-revealed-much-electricity-debts-nigeria-army-owes.html |

Pidggin:Clinton lost she was battered by Sanders. |
I love Trump, Lalasticlala who is your candidate? |
Live results: New Hampshire DEMOCRATS 88.67% reporting Bernie Sanders 60.0% Hillary Clinton 38.4% REPUBLICANS 88.33% reporting Donald Trump 35.1% John Kasich 15.9% Ted Cruz 11.5% Jeb Bush 11.1% Marco Rubio 10.6% Chris Christie 7.5% Carly Fiorina 4.2% Ben Carson 2.3% Summary The top-line results are in in the New Hampshire primary. Here’s what you need to know so far: The 2016 presidential race broke into an open and clear insurgency in both parties against the political establishment, with formerly outsider candidates scoring huge victories in the New Hampshire primary. Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Bernie Sanders won by large double-digit margins. Their respective wins were big enough that TV networks were able to call the races immediately after polls closed. Voter turnout in New Hampshire on a bitterly cold night was very large and appeared to be on track to break state records. Ohio governor John Kasich won his bet on the Granite State, finishing in second. He vowed to take his campaign national after a New Hampshire focus. The fight over third place on the Republican side was too close to call. Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio all appeared to be in the running. The stakes were high, as a fourth or fifth place finish in New Hampshire would make it more difficult for Bush or others to justify carrying on. “This campaign is not dead,” Bush told supporters. Governor Chris Christie announced he was returning to New Jersey to “take a deep breath” after what looked like a sixth-place finish in a state where he went for broke. Democratic runner-up Hillary Clinton said “I know I have some work to do, particularly with young people,” but she vowed to “fight for every vote in every state.” Sanders asked viewers to donate on his web site “to take the fight to Nevada, South Carolina and the states on Super Tuesday.” Sanders said his big New Hampshire victory would “echo from Wall Street to Washington, from Maine to California,” and announced a political revolution. “We are going now to South Carolina, we’re gonna win in South Carolina,” Trump concluded his speech. “I love you all.”

lalastilala, should we call him a political jobber? ishilove your free to speak for him. |
Chief Bisi Akande, a former governor of Osun state and former interim national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to insinuations that President Muhammadu Buhari was trying to edge him and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu out of political reckoning. Speaking in a recent interview with Vanguard, Akande said to the best of his knowledge, he and the president were in the best of agreement. The APC chieftain added that he also had a good relationship with Tinubu. “What Buhari is thinking about me is a question you have to put forward to Buhari but as at last Monday, I was still talking to the presidency,” he said. Akande described those defecting as political parasites who have killed their original host and now running to a new host. He noted that the APC must be careful with these parasites and prevent them from killing the party. When asked what he has to say about the continuous defection of politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC, he replied: “The situation is like bringing together two pieces of wood to make furniture. If the wood is weak, the furniture will not be strong enough. It is true that we put the party (APC) together in a hurry and we put it together by merging political parties but before it became a political party, and glued into one, election had come and we seemed to be more concerned with election than the making of the party.” Akande said he has never defected and will never defect. The APC chieftain said he is ready to join the army of people that will go back to the farm as Nigeria needs to concentrate on how to feed herself. “Enough of riding Okada all over the streets, we must all go back individually to make sure that we are able to feed ourselves. “In the olden days when we were young, the patriarch of a home, as soon as a child becomes of age and ready to marry, they give him a portion of land where he would start cultivating, from the first harvest, he will start feeding his family, no more taking from the father,” he said. The Nigerian political scene has been experiencing a tsunami of defections. Since the ruling APC defeated the PDP in the 2015 presidential election, politicians have been switching party allegiance. Idris Jimoh, the former deputy chairman of the PDP in Kogi state, recently defected to the APC with his supporters. Earlier in the week, no fewer than 500 women in Udaba community, Etsako Central local government area of Edo state dumped their parties for the PDP. https://www.naij.com/704768-buhari-trying-edge-tinubu-akande-political-reckoning-apc-chief-speaks.html |
