Former Pres. Jonathan, PDP Were Not Mentally Prepared For Defeat – Buhari Former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party were not mentally prepared for the defeat they suffered during the April general elections, President Muhammadu Buhari has said. Buhari said this in Abuja on Monday in a keynote address titled the Challenges of Transition in Nigeria and the Imperatives for a New Framework at an event on Strengthening Nigeria’s Transition Framework for Democratic Consolidation organised by the National Democratic Institute. The president who was represented at the event by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said as a result of lack of mental preparedness, the government of Jonathan could not put the structures necessary for transition in place and this nearly led to a national crisis. At the event, Minister of Youths and Sports, Mr.Solomon Lalung, said the transition committee set up by Buhari was offered only N20m which was turned down because it was inadequate to take care of its expenses. Buhari said, “Our experience in the last transition process was unique despite the fact that we have held many general elections and transitioned from one government to another. Indeed, the last election heralded the first real transition in the history of our nation, being the first time that an opposition party will sweep the ruling party out of power. A statement by Sani Usman Nigeria army spokesperson said that troops of 28 Task force Brigade deployed at Bitta and Pridang successfully raided some Boko Haram terrorist’s camps at Bulajilin and Manawashe villages along Bita and Damboa road. Usman said the raid at the fringes of Sambisa forest led to the killing of 3o members of the terrorist group on Tuesday, October 27. “The unit also rescued 338 persons that were held captive by the terrorists in the enclaves. The rescued persons which comprised of male 8, female 138 and children 192, have since been evacuated to Mubi,” Usman said. He added that the troops recovered arms and ammunitions during the operation. Items recovered include: one general purpose machine gun and two dane guns, 150 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO), six boxes of 7.62mm (NATO) and three cutlasses. “In a related development, troops based on a tip off, ambushed and killed 4 suspected Boko Haram terrorists on a suicide bombing mission to Gubula, Madagali local government area in Adamawa state. The army spokesperson added that the operation on the Boko Haram Terrorist’s hideouts coincided with the Chief of Army Staff’s operational visit to the Brigade Headquarters in Mubi, Adamawa state. He said the successful operations and ambushing of the terrorists has resulted to the degradation of the insurgents and saving the lives of some of their victims. "Having appealed and given the terrorists final warning, we would like to state that from now on troops within bounds of respect for human rights and rules of engagement, we shall continue to decisively deal with Boko Haram terrorists until they are defeated,” he said. He also called on residents in the area to up their game on vigilance, security consciousness and continuous cooperation with the military and security agencies for successful extermination of insurgency in Nigeria. The Nigerian military had on various occassions rescued victims of terrorists abduction with most of the victims being women, children and the aged. Also, the chief of army staff, Tukur Buratai, has severally promised that the military will ensure to beat the December deadline given by the President Muhammadu Buahri to ensure that the activities of the insurgents, especially in Northeastern Nigeria is crippled. https://www.naij.com/620072-victims-boko-haram-rescued-nigerian-army-photos.html

The Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as an overgrown child of circumstance. Soyinka sharply criticised Obasanjo in his (Nobel laureate’s) new book, titled InterInventions: Between Defective Memory and the Public Lie – A Personal Odyssey in the Republic of Liars, presented in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Saturday. Although Soyinka conceded that he used to be friendly with Obasanjo and admitted in the book that some stakeholders were making efforts to reconcile them, he said he owed it a responsibility to fundamentally respond to lies that Obasanjo allegedly told against him in his latest biography, titled, My Watch, described in InterInventions as Three-Carat Watch. Soyinka, who in the book also critically takes on the likes of former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and veteran critic, Prof. Chinweizu, wrote, quoting a Yoruba proverb, “The child that swears his mother will not sleep must also prepare for a prolonged, sleepless infancy. So, let it be with Okikiola, the overgrown child of circumstance. ”I brainstormed with him over meals both when he was military Head of State – in Dodan Barracks and in his home, Ota – for some time after he left office and early in Aso Rock at his ‘second coming.’ Today, it is a different situation. If he offered to host me, I would wait until he had first swallowed a morsel from the same dish. “I had fully attuned myself to the fact that our Owu retiree soldier and prolific author is an infliction that those of us who share the same era and nation space must learn to endure. However, it does appear to me that there is no end to this individual’s capacity for infantile mischief, and for needless, mind-boggling provocations, such as his recent ‘literary’ intrusion on my peace. He added that part of the intervention the elders made was a ‘cordial’ conversation he had with Obasanjo recently. According to the Nobel laureate, he, during the conversation, commended Obasanjo for the creative way he had developed the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, which Soyinka, however, described as a Presidential Laundromat and a product of executive extortion. He added that he discussed the possibility of a collaboration with the facility. But Soyinka, who chronicled the various places his path had met with that of Obasanjo since childhood, insisted that the lies in which the former President allegedly thrived were so unthinkable that he and some other people had started working on another book solely focusing on Obasanjo. He questioned the godliness to which Obasanjo professed and claimed that the former President indulged in identity theft. “Our author invokes God tirelessly, without provocation, without necessity and without justification, perhaps preemptively, but does he really believe in such an entity? Does our home-bred Double-O-Seven believe in anything outside his own Omnipotence? Could he possibly have mistaken the Christian exhortation – ‘Watch and Pray’ – for his own private inclination to ‘Watch and Prey? This is a seasoned predator on others’ achievements. He preys on their names, their characters, their motivations, their true lives; preys on gossip and preys on contributions to collective undertakings – even preys on their identities, substituting his own where possible.” In the book, Soyinka also commented on the controversy over the ownership and leadership of the board of the Centre for Culture and International Understanding, over which he and Oyinlola recently exchanged words. He and a former Corpa Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Dr. Olu Agunloye, also challenged Major Rasaki Salawu (retd.), who recently claimed that it was he – and not Soyinka – that formed the commission. At the public presentation of the book, Soyinka said that he was poised to draw blood with it. The inauguration of the Soyinka Foundation, held at the MKO Abiola Cultural Centre, Kuto, attracted dignitaries that included the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; his Edo State counterpart, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, who came in company with his wife, Lara; former governors of Ekiti, Rivers and Cross River states, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and Mr. Donald Duke While the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, also graced the occasion, at the the programme that featured readings and performances were scholars/writers such Profs JP Clark, Biodun Jeyifo and Remi Raji; Odia Ofeimun and Kunle Ajibade. Amosun commended Soyinka and the organisers of the event for the initiative and promised to support it. Efforts to get Obasanjo’s reaction failed as one of his aides said the former President had travelled to Ivory Coast to monitor elections. http://www.afikpochicupdates.com/12963 |

You are here : Home » News » I didn’t get contract, oil block, anything from Jonathan— Edwin Clark October 28, 2015 at 1:50 am in News FacebookTwitterSMSWhatsApp By Charles Kumolu ELDER statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, has dismissed insinuations that he betrayed former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, by reportedly saying that the ex-President lacked the political will to fight corruption, noting that he was maliciously misconstrued. EDWIN CLARK Clark, who was criticised by some associates of the former President over the statement, also denounced claims that his decision to quit partisan politics was provoked by the ex-President’s defeat at the polls. In a 3,902-word letter, the former Minister of Information exonerated himself from the various allegations of betrayal levelled against him, adding that close associates of the former President and some party leaders sold Jonathan out. He further defended the former leader’s anti-corruption record, noting that his attempt to probe former Heads of State, who were fingered in high profile corruption cases, was frustrated by some officials in Jonathan’s government. His words: “My statements on President Jonathan and my quitting partisan politics were wickedly, sensationally presented. “It must be admitted that President Jonathan was very willing to fight corruption, but he believed that due process should and must be followed otherwise he could have initiated investigations into the scandals of Halliburton, Siemens and other serious alleged corruption charges levelled against some former Heads of State and other prominent Nigerians. ‘He was sabotaged’ “Jonathan believed that there are institutions set up by the government, such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions, EFCC, and other anti-graft agencies. “Regrettably, some of those who surrounded him led by the Attorney General, Alhaji Hassan Tukur, made it impossible for these institutions to work either by stopping them from arresting offenders or prosecuting some of the cases. “Over 50 high profile corruption cases are still pending in the various courts for over eight years now. Laughable plea bargains and out of court settlements became the order of the day. “It was at this juncture, when there was general complaint about the government not aggressively fighting corruption, that I addressed an open petition to the then Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Dahiru Musdapher, November 2 , 2011, complaining that most of those charged to court, especially former governors who have become senators, were still pending. “He promptly replied my letter on November 3. Most of the petitions written against some prominent Nigerians, addressed to the anti-graft agencies, did not see the light of the day. “Ironically, the perpetrators of these corrupt actions were the same persons who attacked Jonathan’s inability to eradicate corruption. “It is indeed most disingenuous to insinuate that my relationship with the former President was based on what benefits accrued to me. That is far from the truth as I never benefited any material thing from President Jonathan in all his six years as President. ‘I didn’t get anything from Jonathan’ “With all modesty, I am at this age contented. I state publicly therefore, that I never sought nor obtained any contract, oil block, oil lifting allocation or financial gratification from the ministries, departments and agencies, MDAs, during his years of administration. “Similarly, I never solicited for appointments or special placements for any of my children or relations in any government or private concern on account of my relationship with President Jonathan. “It is, therefore, ludicrous and totally ill-motived for these wicked and mischievous persons to sell to the public that my decision portends a plan to seek any special favours from President Muhammadu Buhari and his government, or to protect those gains which I acquired from Jonathan’s government, which never existed. “On the contrary, my public service in this country, which spans over 60 years, had given me the opportunity to seek the political, social and economic development of my people and Nigeria in general. I remain committed more than ever before to the economic, political and social emancipation of the people of the Niger Delta, South-South, the entire minorities and the development and unity of this great nation. “My support for Goodluck Jonathan predates his presidency. It dates back to the period when he was the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State. “So, for people, who are thinking that I only knew Dr. Jonathan when he became the President or that I was one of his hangers on, I think there will be need to give them a little information. ‘I knew him before he became President’ “My relevance and leadership of my people as an elder statesman and a critical stakeholder in this Nigeria project far pre-dates Dr. Jonathan’s public life and presidency. I have been relevant in politics and I have served my people honestly and creditably well. “I became very close to Dr. Goodluck Jonathan when he was Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State. I was present in London when the late former Governor of Bayelsa State, the Governor General of the Ijaw Nation, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, was arrested at the prompting of the Nigerian government under Olusegun Obasanjo because of his hatred for Alamieyeseigha. “I had to cancel my flight to Nigeria at the London airport when news of the arrest of Alamieyeseigha was conveyed to me by Ambassador Pereware from Paris. “I went with a few well meaning Nigerians to Essex where we had been informed that he was kept, but could not find him. We went to a few other places before we were able to locate where he was. “I remained in London for one week with him to put in place machineries for his bail. I recall the large heartedness of Lady Ann Iyoha, who brought out the title deed of her property in London to secure his bail and also the magnanimity of another woman from Amasoma, the home town of Chief Alamieyeseigha in Bayelsa State. ‘We’re proud of him’ “I still believe that Jonathan performed creditably well in various areas. I am very proud of him and so are millions of other Nigerians. “He did many good things for this nation. Ordinarily, at my age and position in life, I should not have to justify myself in a press controversy on my voluntary decision to quit partisan politics, particularly when this personal and well intended act has come under unfair politicization of persons of mediocre temperament.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/i-didnt-get-contract-oil-block-anything-from-jonathan-edwin-clark/ |

A group of former militants in the Niger-Delta region, under the platform of the Niger-Delta Coalition, said a fight against Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers state, is a fight against change. The ex-militants described Amaechi as the ‘Lion of Niger Delta’ who represented the ‘Change’ the All Progressives Congress (APC) stood for, Daily Times reports. Led by their president, Young Piero and secretary, Toriomo Excel, the former militants on Tuesday, October 21 said they supported President Muhammadu Buhari during the presidential election because of Amaechi The ex-militants said: “We supported Buhari-led APC because we wanted change. The Senate should know better that a fight against Ameachi is a fight against the progressives; a delay to screen Ameachi is against the peace-loving people of Niger-Delta and millions of Nigerians. “It is time for the Senate to recognise him and some others who worked for the peace enjoyed during the last general election. The Niger Delta Coalition does not see any reason why he (Ameachi) has not been screened by the Senate. He is a leader, a coach, an instructor, a mobiliser and a motivator who put his life, family and the lives of many that believed in the struggle to bring about the change Nigeria is talking about today.” They called on the Senate to waste no time in screening the former governor for his contributions to President Buhari’s success and for the benefit of Nigerians and Niger Delta. The Senate has been deferring Amaechi’s screening since last week due to the inability of the committee on ethics and privileges to conclude investigations into petitions brought against him by senators from his state. The screening of the former governor was scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, but it was deferred once again. Report has it that he will now be screened on Thursday. According to a section of the constitution, unless the Senate confirms or formally rejects him by Thursday, October 29, Amaechi would automatically be sworn in as a minister upon the expiration of the 21-day constitutional deadline allowed the Senate to confirm or reject a ministerial nominee. |
A 40-year-old Information Technologist, Mr Samuel Bankole on Tuesday told an Igando Customary court in Lagos that his father-in-law was responsible for his leaving his matrimonial home. Bankole, who was responding to a divorce suit filed by his wife, Iyabo, said his father in-law forced him out because he was unable to pay the house rent. “My wife always pay the rent because I am not buoyant enough but the last rent was paid by my father-in-law who had been threatening me to vacant the house or commit suicide. “On that fateful day, he came with a thug, beat me and threw my belongings out. “He also arrested me; I passed a night in the cell before my father came to bail me.” he said. The respondent said that his wife with whom he had three children was having extra marital affair. “My wife cheats on me, I read her chat on her phone and I discovered she was having an affair with a man. “I confronted her and showed her their conversation but she could not give me a satisfactory answer.” he said. Bankole also claimed that his wife always curse him saying he always hear her during the mid-night swearing that it would not be well with him. He begged the court not to grant his wife’s wish as he was still in love with her. The petitioner, Mrs Iyabo Bankole, 32, a trader had sought for the dissolution of her five-year-old marriage over lack of care and threat to her life. She said that her husband was an irresponsible husband and father. “My husband is working but he always tell me he does not have money, I have been the one paying the house rent since the inception of our marriage and also pay the children’s school fees. “When the rent of the two-bedroom flat I first rented was about to due, my husband disappeared from the house with all his belongings to an unknown destination and I was pregnant then. “I don’t have money so I have to sell my late mother’s property to pay for my antenatal and to feed myself. “I was in the hospital for six days because I could not pay, I was release after my father came to pay the bill and I stayed with my father for nine months before he rented another flat for me. “After my father rented the flat, my husband came back to the house,” she said. Iyabo also told the court that her husband threatened to kill her. He said that her husband once tied her nose and mouth with cloth, adding that it took the intervention of neigbours to save her. “There was a day his girl friends came to my house around 11p.m. to beat me up. “After I recovered from the beating, I came out to take air when I saw those girls with my husband outside the gate chatting and drinking. My husband also beat me whenever he sees me talking with a male customers or whenever he read my chat with a male friend on phone; all the scars on my body was as result of his constant beating. The petitioner pleaded with the court to dissolve the marriage, saying her life was at risk and wanted to live and cater for her children. The court president, Mr Adegboyega Omilola adjourned the case till Nov. 4 for further hearing http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/my-father-in-law-sent-me-packing-out-of-my-matrimonial-home-man-tells-court/

EDWIN CLARK: THE MASTURBATION AND EJAC*LATION OF AN ELDER STATESMAN written by Citizen Ikenna Samuelson Iwuoha. I am constrained to lend my voice on the recent masturbation and ejaculation on Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan due to his alleged weakness to fight corruption by a self-imposed elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark. Few days ago, Chief Edwin Clark made headlines in most National Newspapers, wherein in his usual posturing, threw hard stones on former President Goodluck Jonathan. He accused the ex-president of lacking the Will power (Political Will) to fight corruption. Edwin Clark also announced his disengagement from politics and from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). At over 85 years of age, Edwin Clark should be respected, but unfortunately this man has constantly made himself available to be insulted by “small boys” who are young enough to be his grand children. It is said that an elder does not stay in a house or place where a goat is entrapped. It is the duty of an elderly man to advice, caution and rebuke his children when they are doing the wrong things. An elder who supports corruption and corrupt practices is not worthy to be respected. An elder who encouraged a sitting president to go against his commitment with major stakeholders in the country, and later turn around to blame the President, is not worthy to be respected. We were all in this country when all these happened before our very eyes. Today, because political power has changed hands, someone is now making an attempt to re-write history, and thereafter warm his way into the heart and mind of the new man who is currently in-charge in the country. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was the “Original” godfather to President Goodluck Jonathan. It was Obasanjo who made Jonathan Governor of Bayelsa state. It was Obasanjo who made Jonathan Vice President of Nigeria. It was Obasanjo who ensured that Jonathan became President, when it was obvious that President Umaru Yar’Adua was terminally ill. Other eminent Nigerians played major roles as well. Then suddenly from nowhere, perhaps due to ethnic consideration, Chief Edwin Clark emerged and dislodged Obasanjo by “cutting off his hands” (apologies to Joe Igbokwe) from the Presidential seat occupied by Jonathan, and effectively took over as the new godfather. Edwin Clark reportedly relocated to Abuja from Delta State. He set up an “Office” and became the centre of attraction for politicians, bootlickers, sycophants and Businessmen who allegedly came to seek audience with President Jonathan. To book an appointment to see President Jonathan was a multi-Billion Naira business. Regrettably, Edwin Clark was reportedly “Chairman and Managing Director” of that business empire. This is corruption of the highest order. President Jonathan is a gentleman per excellence. He reportedly signed an undertaking that he would not contest the 2015 Presidential election. He even made a public declaration to that effect. But it was Chief Edwin Clark who persuaded and encouraged Jonathan to go against that commitment, and he went ahead to declare his intention to contest the 2015 Presidential election. The resultant effect was that Jonathan was dumped by political gladiators who would have delivered him at the polls. It was Edwin Clark who was insulting, assaulting and threatening to deal with every “Okeke, Okafor, Okorie and Okonkwo” in this country if Jonathan was not allowed to continue in Office. It was Jonathan’s god father (Edwin Clark) who made it clear to every “Shehu, Mohammed, Ibrahim and Adamu” that there was no corruption in the government of President Jonathan. With his current vituperations against his godson, Edwin Clark has exposed himself as a man not worthy to be called a leader. Edwin Clark was there when “Drivers were building palatial mansions”, yet he did nothing, he said nothing and could not even caution his son, Jonathan. Perhaps because he too was benefiting from the “Oil Well” flowing from Aso-Rock. On the issue of corruption proper; some notable Nigerians including Obasanjo had accused the immediate past government of corrupt practices and lacking the Will to fight the monster. But it was Chief Edwin Clark who openly declared that Jonathan was his son and free from Corruption. Infact, Obasanjo and Edwin Clark were constantly at each other’s throat, with their nonsensical open letters which they used to pollute the sensitivities and sensibilities of Nigerians. I remember when I was the Senior Special Assistant on Media and later, on Special Duties at the Imo State House of Assembly. I uncovered large scale fraud running into billions of naira, involving the then Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly (Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu), his Chief of Staff (Kodichi Anamekwe) and others. Chief Edwin Clark was one of those I contacted and informed of the large scale fraud. I followed it up with a petition to EFCC exposing in details, the fraud. Again I sent hard copy of the petition to Edwin Clark in April 2014. Unfortunately after going through the petition and enclosed documents, the elder statesman “lacked the Will Power to follow it up” even though I also sent hard copies to Force Headquarters and other relevant places. The question is; what moral justification does Edwin Clark have to condemn and attack former President Jonathan? Is it because the “Oil Well” has stopped flowing to him? It is indeed very unfortunate. I am happy that Eminent Nigerians including Ex-militants have all come out to condemn Edwin Clark betrayal of Goodluck Jonathan. This old man parading himself as an elder statesman must be told that this is the time the former President need him most. But rather than taking up this responsibility of being with the humiliated Jonathan, who has become the first incumbent President to lose an election:: Edwin Clark chose to publicly stab Jonathan by masturbating and ejaculating on his face. Yes, Edwin Clark is now frustrated, so he “POURED” his frustration on Jonathan’s face. Too bad. It is high time leaders and elder statesmen weigh their speeches before going public. Elder statesmen should be sources of blessings to this country. They should be sources of blessings to the new generation of leaders in this country. They should be sources of inspiration to the Nigerian Youth. But most unfortunately, some of these old men are daily disappointing us with their unguarded talks and selfish attacks on their benefactors. If Jonathan had been re-elected, believe me, Edwin Clark would have been the first person to congratulate him by telling us how wonderful, mercurial and great his son is. Now that reverse is the case, Edwin Clark has shown that he is an ingrate, desperado, senseless and a glorified bootlicker. If the likes of this so called elder statesman are not called to order, they would continue in their “Ejaculatory Outbursts” of constantly making unguarded statements. Nigeria has changed, so have its youths. We will no longer condone rubbish from Edwin Clark and his likes. They should visit National Icons like Professor Anezi Okoro, Professor Chukwuemeka Ike, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia, Dr. Nnanna Ukegbu, and Pastor Gbile Akanni etc. and have good tutorials on how to be responsible and respected elder statesmen. A word is enough for the wise. I rest my pen.
