In the United States: The number of people incarcerated in state and federal prisons and local jails dropped 14% from around 2.1 million in 2019 to 1.8 million by late 2020. The overall decrease in numbers represents a 21% decline from a peak of 2.3 million people in prison and jail in 2008. 2.3 million prisonsoners vs 200 million Nigerians Modified This part is about the State prison system, we have the federal and state run prisons. A common measure used by states to understand this cost is the “average cost per inmate,” calculated by taking the total state spending on prisons and dividing it by the average daily prison population.13 This figure represents the amount the state spends annually, on average, to staff and maintain the prisons and provide all prison services. Among the 45 states that provided data (representing 1.29 million of the 1.33 million total people incarcerated in all 50 state prison systems), the total cost per inmate averaged $33,274 and ranged from a low of $14,780 in Alabama to a high of $69,355 in New York. Eight states—Alaska, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont—had a cost per inmate above $50,000.14 Eighteen, mostly southern, states had costs less than $25,000, while 19 states had costs between $25,000 and $50,000. |

franciskaine:I have asked this same question times without number. If you sell power to make money, why keep people in darkness if they are ready to pay for power? Many things don't add up. My theory is that the intelligent brains behind the power issue are same brains with the highest investments in PMS and diesel import. The proportion of steady power delivered to consumers is inversely proportional to the quantity of PMS and diesel imported. They are quick to award contracts for construction of power plants, but how many of these power plants are actually operational? Steady cash out day in day out. I may be wrong. 2 Likes |

FarahAideed:The 70% of generated power loss is due to long distance transmission over substandard power infrastructure, power cables design, bad transformers, no protective devices, etc. The rejection part I also understand, it like telling a distribution company to sell 20MW monthly when only 13MW can be sold, so there an accruing sales deficit of 7MW monthly. 70% of power generated in Nigeria is lost during transmission. Bad blood politics will not allow effective generation and distribution of electricity. Let power be generated and distributed locally, let each state run what is most effective. Prior to connecting to the national grid, some States were enjoying free but steady power, they only had to expand on the infrastructure they had on ground. But the laws that be would not have that, instead they had these states connected to the national grid, so as to enjoyed the epileptic power supply. Now there is no government office building where u wouldn't find Lebanese company supplying and maintenaning generating set.
