edaloba:
Pls am a student of computer science, year 2. I just want to go into the programming World partially by starting a project - writing a quiz application for year 1 students in my school to help them in their CBT exams. Although I just have a little knowledge of Java but am ready to learn more. Already downloaded an ebook titled how to write an android application for dummies. I will really apreciate any help whatsoever from anybody to kick-start and finish this project, Thanks in Advance.
I wrote a tutorial on this topic. I think it might be of help to you. You can see the whole tutorial here - http://inducesmile.com/android/android-quiz-application-with-json-parse-php-and-mysql-database/

OK...pls what dyu mean by "native Android" ?

Please I'm very very very new to Java...and I'll be learning about it on my own. How do I start?
Native Android App - OS dependent / Language specific

You can search for Java beginner's tutorial online and you will see many. Just start small and you will progress with time. Once you start, don't give up. Learning programming can be frustrating most times but with determination, hardwork and being focus, you will wrap your head around it in no time.

Note that it is a constant learning process and always get your hands dirty by writing your own code even if it is not working.

how do you get installs embarassed embarassed embarassed cry cry cry
I target some keywords that are related to my app that can bring organic downloads.

But it is very hard now because of the amount of app in Play Store and the competition.

One of my apps will get to 500,000 download this week (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.toscanyacademy.completechemistry). So I do cross promotion with new apps.

Like I published my newest app November, 2015 and since then it has like 15,000 downloads. So it is hard.

Some big companies that have the budget purchase installs

This is what i was trying to say:
if a notable entity were to profile developer income from the playstore or apple app store.
It would rank income according to the national standard , in this case u.s standard.
So say techcrunch, or forbes, or cnn were profiling the mobile app developer income,
their standard of rating would be:
very good: $100k+
medium-good: $60k+
average: 50k+
low: <50k

at 100k+, a developer could consider, quitting his job to do app dev full time. Else,it would considered a side thing.
Even then, it would be advised against as it may not be known how long the bubble will last, since it is not yet an established market.

But what they consider low, in some place is very huge. 50k$, for example is N15m. By nigerian standard that's very high.

The other point about possibility of making 5k/m or even $1m/yr is because i was weighing it against total market: 1 billion+ android devices in the world. Against this backdrop i reasoned, some people should be confidently raking in 5k/m and some outliers could be pulling in $1m/yr (angry bird did, candy crush did).
Again, i'm not comparing you with them or comparing your income. Just saying, an international reporter would classify your earnings as low because their national ranking classifies it as so.
#if you don't understand me, forget it.
You analysis is quite clear and that is the standard the world is using. For sure, in international standard 2200 is considered low.

You mistook my comment as me belittling your income. Or saying your achievement is'nt impressive.
Making even a steady $100 /m could be a serious undertaking.
Nope, I did not. I always remind myself that I am on a public forum and everybody is entitle to his or her opinion.

I was trying to tell you that I am not naturally crazy about money. I am glad that I am even making money and I am comfortable with it. Besides, I am still progressing.

I like your analysis. Most especially where you stated that the average amount top developers make is 5000 usd per month. I think that is a reasonable amount. On the other hand, when you consider living standards in different countries you will realize in many countries, earning 5000 usd per month automatically makes you a millionaire.

I have come to realize that there are many variables that aid in money making. If you are working alone, it can be difficult sometimes.

For me, one of the hardest job is promoting your app as a developer with no budget. Excerpt you want to spam the whole internet.
Programming › Re: My New Year Resolution: 1 Million Naira A Month From Android App Dev In 2015 by nollyj(op): 12:09am On Feb 19, 2016
asalimpo:
@N300/usd you are netting <= $2k/m .Which really is'nt much, Globally speaking. I bet bet they're folks raking in $10k/m and some rare breeds pulling in $1m/year.
I know on apple , the highest percentile pull in $1m+.

$5k/m should be common experience for top coders.

I could be wrong on the estimates though. Correct me.
You might be right.

I am comfortable with what I am making now because it is a passive income. I have a proper job with flexible time. The most important thing for me is I love what I am doing and I am learning everyday. Success comes with time, good planning and hard-work.

May be in two year or in near future I will be making far more than I make today or it can also go bad and I will make nothing. That is life. But I am possitive.

For free apps you can make money from advertisement.

Paid app is straight forward. Users pay before using it.

Education › What 2016 JAMB Examination Date Tells Me. I Don't Know About You by nollyj(op): 6:55pm On Jan 29, 2016
It is a general knowledge that JAMB has set a date on the 29th February for the 2016 JAMB examination in Nigeria.

For those planning to sit for the coming JAMB exam we all know how important it is for us and our future.

If you must score above the cut-off mark for your chosen programs then this is the time to understand what JAMB exam date is telling you.

For me the time is near. There is no other time to get ready with JAMB exam preparation than now.

This is what I am focusing on. I don't know about you but we are here to share knowledge that will be beneficial to all of us.

Steps I am taking now

1. To cover JAMB Syllabi for my selected subjects
I will make sure I cover all the topics in each of the subjects I will sit for in JAMB. It will not be easy but I have gone far since I started my preparation since last years ending.

2. To cover all past JAMB questions and solutions for my selected subjects
Testing yourself with JAMB questions is a better way to get an insight on how prepared you are. There are many online websites where you can get a free access or paid access to all JAMB past exam questions and solutions in Nigeria.

3. I have my exam slip and other exam materials in a safe reach now
I don't want anything that will put me in a position to start looking for any of my required exam material on the day of the exam. I have arranged and put them in my safe reach.

4. I have developed a well plan schedule and reading time table
Nothing beats being organize in whatever thing you do in life. With my planned schedule and reading time table, I always know how much work I have done and what remains to be done.

5. Pray Pray Pray
I have committed everything to God as I embark on this journey. Nothing pass God.

With my set out plan, I am convinced that I will do better in 2016 JAMB exam. If you will sit for chemistry, this resource might be valuable to you.

I will like to know how you are getting ready for 2016 JAMB exam.

I have a plan to develop a new android education app, among these three mobile application ideas which one of the ideas do you like the most.

1. General Engineering Calculator
It will cover most of the formulas and calculations in Electrical, Civil, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering.

2. Plant and Human Anatomy in 3D
It focuses on plant and human anatomy in 3D with some additional features.

3. Students Course Planner
It will work as a utility app that helps students plan everything around their studies. It will also incorporate time management system and other additional features

Please spare me a minute and check out my last android mobile app in Google Play - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.inducesmile.completecalculatorapp

Yes it is still 5, but @VickyRotex has reported 2 bug which I am fixing and I will release a new version tomorrow. As you said most people download apps based on the review and rating.
