Just curious though,
suppose I develop the same application for both Ios applestore and Android playstore and happen to have about the level of search optimization, which is more likely to fetch me more cash and by what margin?
You will make more money from Apple store I guess because most iOS apps are paid for compare to Google play where the most popular earning type is through advertisement.

The level of cash / earning difference might be hard to estimate.

This is a very interesting thread which we will benefit from. I have only develop for android so my points are based on want I have experienced.

When I started developing for android, I realized that there is business side of app development than just to write app and hoping for downloads.

Google Play store is very competitive, many companies and indie developers use so much money to promote and buy downloads for their apps so that they will rank high with their targeted keywords.

Some developers use spam and bot to rank their app. So there are many things going on in Play Store.

It is very difficult to rank an app without money for promotion or knowledge of ASO (App Store Optimization) in Google Play Store

It is easy to development simple apps in android but making money from your android app is another story.

Until you understand the secret of making apps that make money in Google Store, it will amount to waste of time and money unless you are doing it for hobby.

For Blackberry, I feel that there is no competition in their Store and it is easy for apps to get downloads.

Why I have not develop for Blackberry is that I don't know if their OS will stand the test of time. Recently I heard that Blackberry is considering using android in some of their upcoming new release.

My question to @thewebcraft and @FincoApps and other Blackberry developers here

1. Which ad network do you use in your apps?

2. Does ad pay well in Blackberry app than in Android app?

3. Does your app focus on Nigeria users or general?
Programming › Android Tab With Swipe Views In Android Studio by nollyj(op):
In this tutorial we are going to learn how to develop Android Tab with Swipe Views, ViewPager, FragmentPagerAdapter in Android Studio. We are going to use Android Studio in this tutorial since it contains a template for creating ActionBar Tabs with ViewPager.

Android Tab is a top navigation design pattern in android and it can be used in application like News App where news articles are place in categories.

You can learn more about android Tab and where it can be use in android application development in android developers guide.

I wrote another article that covers using android Tab with android Toolbar. If you are using the new Android ToolBar and want to use a Tab, I will suggest you read this tutorial on Android Tab with ToolBar.

We will go further to modify the Android Tab with Swipe Views so that it will suit what we want to achieve. We are going to create a Music Application that categorizes music genre into three different Tabs (RnB, Reggae and Rap.)

Now lets briefly show case what we will like to achieve in this android tutorial. The screen shot below represent the user interface.

https://inducesmile.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/tabone.jpg

Before we start, the first thing I will do is to list the environment and tools I used in this android tutorial but feel free to use whatever environment or tools you are familiar with.

Windows 7

Android Studio

Sony Xperia ZL

Min SDK 14

Target SDK 19

To create a new android application project, following the steps as stipulated below.

Go to File menu

Click on New menu

Click on Android Application

The reason they gave was that I clicked my own ad multiple times. The only time I can recall doing that was when I was developing the app, I clicked to test ad integration and that was like 2 months ago. I mean like 3 or four clicks compared to the thousands of clicks I have delivered to these people.

My annoyance actually is that there was no warning or anything like that and this month should be when I am due to receive first payment. Apparently, all the revenue I earned will be taken by google and some paid back to advertisers.
I think it is a very serious case because warning comes first and if the violation continues then they will place a ban. Although I have not received any ban, warning or suspension but I will suggest you try another ad network.

You are right. It can be achieved that way but the problem is that it is not dynamic and it requires more work and time when you have many images
Programming › Re: How To Make Circular Imageview And Rounded Corner Imageview In Android by nollyj(op):
The custom ImageView called CircularImageView is added in the project by add a dependency in the project build.gradle file as shown below.

dependencies {
compile fileTree(dir: 'libs', include: ['*.jar'])
compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:21.0.3'
compile 'de.hdodenhof:circleimageview:1.2.1'
}

It help use to use this external library in our application. We will around assign the android:src property with an image resource.

Our MainActivity.java file is very simple and I have explain what the codes are doing. The complete code for the class is as shown.

import android.graphics.Bitmap;
import android.graphics.BitmapFactory;
import android.support.v7.app.ActionBarActivity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.Menu;
import android.view.MenuItem;
import android.widget.ImageView;

public class MainActivity extends ActionBarActivity {

@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(this.getResources(),R.drawable.circularimage);
Bitmap circularBitmap = ImageConverter.getRoundedCornerBitmap(bitmap, 100);

ImageView circularImageView = (ImageView)findViewById(R.id.imageView);
circularImageView.setImageBitmap(circularBitmap);

}

@Override
public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
// Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.
getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.menu_main, menu);
return true;
}

@Override
public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
// Handle action bar item clicks here. The action bar will
// automatically handle clicks on the Home/Up button, so long
// as you specify a parent activity in AndroidManifest.xml.
int id = item.getItemId();

//noinspection SimplifiableIfStatement
if (id == R.id.action_settings) {

}

return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
}
}

Save the file and run your project.

Programming › How To Make Circular Imageview And Rounded Corner Imageview In Android by nollyj(op): 9:29am On May 12, 2015
In this tutorial we are going to learn different ways to make circular ImageView and rounded corner ImageView in android. The default ImageView in android is rectangle or square in shape so there are situations where we will like to create a circular ImageView or rounded corner ImageView in android.

This will be a simple tutorial but its important cannot be undermined when it comes to designing a visually attractive and elegant application in android.

There are different ways to achieve this but before I went further I will like us to see a sample of what we are to achieve. The image below represent a circular and rounded corner ImageView in android application.

https://inducesmile.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/roundedimage.jpg

We will first create a class that we can use to change or adjust the amount of roundedness we wanted in our image. This class can be use to create both circular and rounded corner ImageView.

Secondly, we will look into a simple library that we will add in our project which will help us to achieve the same result with less code.

Before we start, the first thing I will do is to list the environment and tools I used in this android tutorial but feel free to use whatever environment or tools you are familiar with.

Windows 7

Android Studio

Sony Xperia ZL

Min SDK 14

Target SDK 19

To create a new android application project, following the steps as stipulated below.

Go to File menu

Click on New menu

Click on Android Application

Enter Project name: AndroidCircularImageView

Package: com.inducesmile.androidcircularimageview

Keep other default selections.

Continue to click on next button until Finish button is active, then click on Finish Button

Once you are done with creating your project, make sure you change the package name if you did not use the same package.

We will create an image helper class called ImageCreator which will contain a single static method that will accept a Bitmap object and number of pixel for rounded corner as parameters. The code sample is shown below.

import android.graphics.Bitmap;
import android.graphics.Canvas;
import android.graphics.Paint;
import android.graphics.PorterDuff;
import android.graphics.PorterDuffXfermode;
import android.graphics.Rect;
import android.graphics.RectF;

/*adopted from ruibm/2009/06/16/rounded-corner-bitmaps-on-android/*/

public class ImageConverter {

public static Bitmap getRoundedCornerBitmap(Bitmap bitmap, int pixels) {
Bitmap output = Bitmap.createBitmap(bitmap.getWidth(), bitmap.getHeight(), Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888);
Canvas canvas = new Canvas(output);

final int color = 0xff424242;
final Paint paint = new Paint();
final Rect rect = new Rect(0, 0, bitmap.getWidth(), bitmap.getHeight());
final RectF rectF = new RectF(rect);
final float roundPx = pixels;

paint.setAntiAlias(true);
canvas.drawARGB(0, 0, 0, 0);
paint.setColor(color);
canvas.drawRoundRect(rectF, roundPx, roundPx, paint);

paint.setXfermode(new PorterDuffXfermode(PorterDuff.Mode.SRC_IN));
canvas.drawBitmap(bitmap, rect, rect, paint);

return output;
}
}

We will convert our image resource in drawable folder to a bitmap using BitmapFactory class. The Bitmap object is then passed to the static method getRoundedCornerBitmap(Bitmap bitmap, int pixels) and the result bitmap is set to the ImageView.

In our project main activity layout (activity_main.xml), one ImageView and one custom ImageView components are added to the layout file as shown in the code.

<RelativeLayout xmlns:android=""
xmlns:tools=""
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingLeft="@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="@dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingBottom="@dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:context=".MainActivity">

<ImageView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:id="@+id/imageView"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:contentDescription="@string/hello_world"
android:layout_marginTop="24dp" />

<de.hdodenhof.circleimageview.CircleImageView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="@+id/imageView"
android:layout_marginTop="24dp"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
android:src="@drawable/circularimage"
android:id="@+id/circleView"
/>

</RelativeLayout>

Programming › Re: Dear Programmer In Nigeria: How Much Is Your Salary? by nollyj: 2:09pm On May 02, 2015
I am freelancing so I can't provide any information but what I have seen so far, the salary for a programmer / developer in Nigeria is in the range of 100,000 - 200,000 Naira

This amount depends on your skill sets and experience.

With other sectors like government ministries, government agencies and organisations paying less than or equal amount, one can draw a conclusion that developers / programmers are not underpaid like that in Nigeria.

I do know that when compare with other international software companies like Google, this amount might be smaller than what they pay.

Please we need more information on this topic.

ie
copy 1: 1 = negetive
2 = negetive
3 = neg and so on till 9 neg
copy 2: 1 = positive
2 = negetive
like 5 positive and 4 negetive.
I dnt think The numbers of copies will be 9 but above 30 copies

the app is all about inputing numberes or word into boxes (column form) let the boxes be a min of 5 and max of 30 and a shuffle button under the forms (boxes) , then the outcome of the shuffle should produce different copies of YES or NO, NEGETIVE or POSITIVE, OVER or UNDER, RED or GREEN. Please when creating the you will add make YES or NO, NEGETIVE or POSITIVE, OVER or UNDER, RED or GREEN as options so i choose any as my choice.
Example using two names : if i type in MR into the first box and MRS into the second the result should be in this format
copy 1: mr yes
mrs yes
copy 2: mr no
mrs no
copy 3: mr = yes
mrs = no
copy 4: mr = no
mrs = yes

the app is totally my idea and will be used personally
Still not clear. What is to bases to display Yes or No when you input a number?

Activity_main.xml file
Open the main layout of your project, Since I used the default Main Activity, my corresponding layout for this page is activity_main.xml.

We are going to add an Imagebutton View in the layout file. In your IDE you can choose the layout design view and drag and drop an ImageButton to the layout. If you prefer to use code view, then copy and paste the code below into your layout file.

As you can see the layout is very simple. We will use the ImageButton View to turn on and off our flash light.

In this tutorial we are going to learn how to create android Torch light / Flash light app. This is one of the common utility apps you find in Google Play. If you have wondered how to develop this android app or you want to code your own android torch light app, this tutorial is for you.

The concept behind android Torch light app is that the app makes use of the device camera Flash Mode to turn on and off the camera flash.

This will not work on a device that does not support any camera flash but we will have to put a check in place so that our app will not end up crashing.

Before we start, the first thing I will do is to list the environment and tools I used in this android tutorial but feel free to use whatever environment or tools you are familiar with.

In this android tutorial we are going to learn how to embed and play Youtube video in android WebView. There are some situations where you may want to embed video in your android application, the simplest way to achieve this is to embed the video code in your android WebView.

You can check my previous tutorial on how to load external web page inside Android WebView

There are so many problems associated with this concept.

1. The video is hard to go full screen

2. when the video stops playing, it is difficult to restart the video again without reloading the WebView control.
