But many more are dying of insecurity now and our government looks so clueless and helpless.

Besides, there has been massive improvements in digital infrastructure since the last time and people are more informed now.

Nigeria's battle against insecurity requires more than military deployments and police operations. Our financial system can also be a powerful tool in the fight against crime.

Kidnapping, banditry, and other organized criminal activities often depend on cash because cash is anonymous, difficult to trace, and easy to move without creating a financial record. This makes it attractive for ransom payments and illicit transactions.

Government should therefore continue to promote a cash-lite economy by expanding alternative payment channels such as bank transfers, mobile money, digital wallets, and other electronic payment platforms. The goal is not to eliminate cash entirely but to reduce excessive dependence on it.

When transactions are conducted through formal financial channels, they leave digital footprints that can be monitored by financial intelligence units and security agencies. The knowledge that funds can be traced, accounts flagged, and criminal networks uncovered can act as a significant deterrent. Criminals are less likely to operate freely when they know that following the money could ultimately lead investigators to them.

Nigeria witnessed a glimpse of this during the cash scarcity and cashless policy period under former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele. While the policy created genuine inconvenience for many citizens and businesses, it also demonstrated how limiting the availability of physical cash could constrain certain criminal activities that rely heavily on cash transactions. Many observers noted that criminals found it more difficult to demand, receive, and move large sums of cash during that period.

The inconvenience experienced by law-abiding citizens was real and should not be ignored. However, if properly planned and supported by reliable digital payment infrastructure, the temporary inconvenience of reduced cash usage may be a small price to pay for a safer society where criminals find it harder to profit from their activities.

A modern payment system is not just an economic necessity—it is also a national security asset.

If we can follow the money, we can weaken the criminals. A stronger digital payment ecosystem may be one of Nigeria's most underutilized security tools.

Nigerians have been deeply traumatized by the recent wave of kidnappings and abductions across the country, particularly the latest incidents in Oyo State.

The disturbing images of the teacher who was reportedly beheaded and the heartbreaking videos of other victims pleading for their lives have shocked the nation. These incidents have left many Nigerians asking difficult questions and wondering whether the government is still capable of guaranteeing the security of lives and property.

While security agencies must continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, surveillance, and law enforcement operations, I believe there is another important tool that deserves greater attention: monetary policy.

In my view, the financial system can be leveraged to make kidnapping and other forms of organized crime more difficult to execute and less profitable. By reducing the economy's dependence on cash and encouraging the use of traceable digital payment channels, government can significantly increase the risks faced by criminal networks.

I would therefore like to offer a few suggestions on how simple monetary policy measures can complement existing security efforts and help curb the growing menace of kidnapping and abduction in Nigeria.

Hopefully they can build enough world class stadia in 12 years. Building new stadia is hard in Italy as they are all owned by local governments that are plagued by corruption and bureaucracy. Maybe an event of this magnitude will provide the push needed to modernize Italian football infrastructure.

The Guinean FA argues that circumstances similar to the recent decision involving Senegal should apply retroactively to their case against Morocco national football team in 1976.

During the final stage of the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 🇲🇦 faced Guinea 🇬🇳 in a decisive match.

The tournament format did not include a traditional final, but rather a round-robin group between four teams: Morocco 🇲🇦 , Guinea 🇬🇳 , Nigeria 🇳🇬 , and Egypt 🇪🇬 .

Morocco entered the final match needing only a draw, while Guinea needed a win to secure the title.

I started watching AFCON in 1988. Since we defeated them in 1992 and 2000 ,I cannot recalled when Nigeria defeated Senegal senior national team.

Twice in 2006.

This current team can and should peak by AFCON 27 and 28.

Defense looks solid. Attacking options are there and we seem to have a midfield set up that works, just need to integrate more players.

We really need to win one of those two (if not both) before AFCON reverts to a 4-year cycle and it becomes more difficult to close the gap with the likes of Egypt and Cameroon.

This is exactly my sentiment.

If we don't conspire to self destruct, this team will peak in a beastly mode come 2027 with just a little tweak here and there.

Neutrals insist the Super Eagles are the best team in this tournament just unfortunate that they lost a scripted match.

Interestingly, they seem to mirror the trajectory of the 94 Eagles that we all love so much

Everything started in 1989 when they narrowly lost the World Cup ticket to Cameroon. The following year, they were Afcon finalists .

Two years later, they got the bronze but the signs were already there. By 1994, they had peaked and we all knew they were going to win that tournament.

This team is towing the same path. Final 2 years ago and probably bronze this time, by the next Afcon I believe they would have jellied so much to make them very formidable.

Give these guys their flowers, they did so well no matter the outcome of the PSO.
