This echoes my sentiment too.

We had no business losing that Congo match if Chelle had been more tactically astute.

We had the game in out hand right from the 1st minute and then came the error that led to congo's goal and suddenly the players panicked and from then it was Congo all the way.

I loved Chelle but he did fall hand in that game. Obviously failed to prepare for penalties and was just improvising his tactics on the go.

Never have I seen an East African team dominate Nigeria the way Congo did yesterday, the way they quickly closed down our players whenever we attacked and the way they totally controlled both wings of our defense line. It looked totally strange to me.

Someone highlighted the quality of their defense yesterday when the team list was released and I wasn't particularly worried because I believed our attack was potent enough to unlock it.

But I was shocked at how easily the Congolese defense shut out our attack line, I don't think we make it into their 18 box up to 2 times yet, the Congolese had a field day in our own 18, strolling in virtually every time they attack.

With the influx of foreign borns into African football now, grit and brawn will never cut it again . The Congolese side played like a well drilled European team.

NFF should push for Golden Eaglets to be at the next U17 AFCON after winning the 3rd place game. Why should east africa get 3 slots and west africa B that produces all the U17 world champions only have 2 Last edition it was east africa that got 3 slots and that was what pushed Nigeria out. Also East Africa were so poor last time around. None of their teams qualified for the knockout round. This is were the NFF needs to come in and lobby CAF to increase the # of slots for west africa B but unfortunately we have buffoons running Nigeria football

This is you assuming that federations in west Africa have the same motivations as you do and will like things to change. You need to know how this started first before you reach your conclusions.

First, this didn't start under Motsepe as @solonnachi inferred, it started under Ahmad Ahmad I believe in 2018. Federations in west Africa lead the charge for this to happen (though not solely). The experience then was that many countries in Africa skipped qualifiers for both age grade and CAF competitions complaining about the logistical cost it took to prosecute those games. It was common place for teams to withdraw from games instead of travelling, particularly when they were certain they didn't have a chance. This affected the women's team the most as teans for example will rather not travel than come play Nigeria in a qualifier. They considered that a waste of money for a game they were sore to lose. Federations in west Africa also didn't like spending money so they sought a solution, that's how regional qualifiers started. It wasn't forced on them, they instead championed for it to happen. It saved them money as they only needed to travel once and play every game in one location till the winner is determined.

t inception it was limited to the women's team, but of course other regional federation saw the loop hole and increased participation to the men's team. West African federations still didn't push back cause left to them, it was saving them money but the other folks saw the bigger picture; a path to qualification that wouldn't have been possible had the qualification being continental and not regional. It began to become obvious when power houses in Africa women's football like Ivory coast and Ghana began to miss WAFCON, but federations didn't mind since women's football wasn't really priority for them.

My point is, Motsepe and other regional federations didn't start this, they are only taking advantage of a something that was given to them on a platter. I'm also pretty sure west African federations aren't as pained about this as you think, it's fans who are the real victims that are calling for a change and not them.

Truly , I remember when a lot of teams did pull out of qualifiers due to logistics.

But curiously, the women team qualifications are not being played in this format

Morocco qualifies for the Round of 16. They have beaten Euro Champs, Spain and South American Champs, Brazil.

The other time I was saying Morocco beating Spain was massive and now this.

Whatever Morocco has been doing in the last couple of years only God knows but the result has been immediate and tremendous and at all level of their football both male and female.

Like u mentioned earlier, the last time they were at u21 was in 2005 when we walloped them 3-0 in the semis.

I doubt if anybody here can place a bet on it that we can defeat this Moroccan team.

Wish we can borrow a page from their playbook.

Believe me, the first set in 1985 were young. They were majorly sourced from YSFON and they won.

Again, since the introduction of MRI, we have won twice and came 2nd once.

There will always be problems when we have to choose just 2 between us, Ghana and Ivory Coast.

2026 Wafu B for 2027 Afcon and 2027 WC

2027 Wafu B for 2028 Afcon and 2028 WC

2028 Wafu B for 2029 Afcon and 2029 WC

If we begin earlier than the usual, we can raise the U17 team that will feature in 2026 Wafu B and even the 2027 Wafu B. We can plan ahead... have them play each other even....have them gel together.

Once the 2026 WafuB set secure Afcon ticket for 2027, we also keep preparing the next Set for the Wafu B taking place same 2027 for the next Afcon.

This strategy is not hard. Just need to do it early and right.

My guy, I fear we are already going the way of Ghana in youth football.

Ghana was in 4 consecutive finals between 91 and 97- winning twice but since then nothing.

Nigeria is missing the world cup for the 3rd consecutive time and the last time we were even there, we didn't make it past the group stage even losing to Australia. Same Australia we beat 4-0 in 93 and 5-1 in 2001.

The failures of our youth teams is what is affecting the senior team today from u17 to u 23 it has been failure galore in recent years .

So we can only have just 2 of Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso at the Afcon. These 4 are the traditional powerhouse of African football at u17 level.

Even if they are hell bent on this satanic arrangement, wafu should be demanding for at least 4 slots based on history and performance.

Missing out for the second time in a row after the fifa tournament has been expanded to 48 teams is so painful.
