Politics / Nigeria Government Slashes Business Registration Fees 2 Boost Investment by Noraokon: 4:25pm On Oct 09, 2013
The Minister of Trade and Investment announced the reduction.

The Federal Government has slashed business registration fees in Nigeria by 50 per cent to encourage investors to invest in the country.

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, said this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by Yemi Kolapo, his Special Assistant on communications.

It explained that the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) had reduced the fees for equity registration by 50 per cent for equities of N500 million or lower.

According to the statement, the commission also reduced the fees by 25 per cent for equity registrations from N500 million and above.

The statement explained that the rationale behind the reduction of business registration fees was to increase investment inflow into the country.

It said that the initiative was in line with the ministry’s investment climate reform programme aimed at strategically repositioning Nigeria as preferred destination for both local and foreign investments.

“Following the directive from the President, the Corporate Affairs Commission has since October 1, 2013, slashed fees for business registration by 50 per cent.

“Under the new regulations, capital registration fees for Companies (under Part A) have been reduced across board, while capital registrations below one million naira will retain a flat fee of N10,000.

“All registrations between one million naira and N500 million are reduced by 50 per cent and all registrations above N500 million are reduced by 25 per cent,” it stated.

According to the statement, the review of the registration fees will enable Nigerian companies to save more than N2 billion per annum, which can be used to sustain their businesses, hire more staff and expand operations.

It added that the new regulation had been deliberately set up to ensure the bulk of these savings would go to smaller businesses to strengthen them.

Politics / Revealed!!! Dirty Facts About Fomer VP Atiku Abubakar by Noraokon: 1:51pm On Sep 06, 2013
As a Nigerian Customs Service officer, Atiku left behind an unenviable record, one he wishes will go away, but rather has followed him and haunted him. He is said to worth over $2 billion with most of the money hidden away in the Cayman Island, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates where Jennifer-Jemila is now located after it became difficult to open new bank accounts following her designation as Politically Exposed Person (PEP). Atiku himself was also placed by the United States government on the list of Specially Designated Nationals (The OFAC SDN), a list made up of corrupt politicians, terrorist financiers, mafia lords and similar miscreants around the world.

The United States got tough and rough and blocked the wires through which stolen monies are sent into American banks by Atiku Abubakar. Jennifer-Jemila Abubakar opened more than thirty different banks accounts with several American banks and used them primarily to receive wired funds from suspicious sources and dubious partners. She received over $10 million from Guernsey Trust Company between 2003 and 2008. About $27 million was also wired into the United States for Atiku Abubakar by a business partner of his, Mr. Gabriele Volpi. Of this amount nearly $8 million was wired through Jennifer-Jemila's account, $5.5 million into the American University of Nigeria (AUN) account (Atiku's private university in his home town) and $13.1 million into the American University in Washington's accounts. It Mr. Volpi told the U.S. Subcommittee that LetsGo and Sima Holdings sent millions of dollars to Ms. Douglas in connection with Mr. Abubakar's ownership interest in Intels and a line of credit that LetsGo had extended to the Abubakar Blind Trust.

The sources of Atiku Abubakar's funds are dubious and crooked. His hands are far from clean and he has absolutely nothing to offer the Nigerian people beside taking another shot at the national treasury and looting it. If the business Atiku was invited to join in 1989 by Mr. Volpi, Nigeria Container Services Inc. (NICOTES) is making so much money there is no evidence to back up that claim. NICOTES is said to be an oil logistics company and there is little or no evidence that the company is making or previously made so much money from any decent work. Beside the fact that Atiku Abubakar is corrupt and unworthy as a politician, he has very little education and is therefore poorly equipped to even lead a local government. But Atiku is not alone in this regard; majority of the half-baked politicians who are pretending to be leaders of the Nigerian people are also poorly educated and largely ignorant. It is not just corruption that is at the heart of the Nigerian problem and poor leadership, poor education or the lack of it has also been a major factor. The only reasonable education Atiku earned was a diploma in law from Ahmadu Bello University! He rose to the rank of Deputy Director of Customs largely on the back of his Northern heritage and background.

Over a period of eight years Jennifer-Jemila Atiku-Abubakar opened various accounts at different banks in Maryland for the purpose of receiving and helping to launder funds. The accounts opened included several personal accounts at Citibank, Chevy Chase Bank, Wachovia Bank, Eagle Bank, and Suntrust Bank, credit card accounts, brokerage accounts (with Citibanks's Smith Barney affiliate), home equity account, Gede Foundation accounts, AUN (ABTI American University in Nigeria) account, and safe deposit boxes. She was obsessed with opening bank accounts and loved the benefits that accrue to her. The three (3) Siemens wire transfers were paid into Jennifer E. Douglas' account #52096374 on 4/12/2001 ($450,703.79), 10/01/2001 ($461,440.92) and on 1/28/2002 ($860,500), for a total of $1,772,644.71. Additional $2 million kickback payments were also confirmed to have been made to Atiku Abubakar through his wife over a three year period from 2000 to 2003. She received these additional funds through J.E. Douglas Steradian Co. UK L, J.E. Douglas and Peniel Inc. UK Ltd. Wire transfers to Douglas's account #52096374 at Citibank from LetsGo accounts at Wegelin & Co and Banca Del Gottardo between 2003 and 2006 came to a total of $7,424,620. From Guernsey Trust Company account at Wegelin & Co was a total of $3,049,940 between 2006 and 2007. Additional wire transfers from LetsGo Ltd to another Douglas account #1209739556 between 2005 and 2007 came to $5,550,000. The wire transfers were endless and kept flowing for years while Atiku Abubakar was Vice President of Nigeria. The receiver meanwhile remained jobless and a student! She was the receiver of treasures and stolen funds, but the banks caught up with her and Atiku one by one, and one by one the banks closed the accounts. She was the robust pipe and willing tool, a messenger sent to the United States of America primarily to open accounts, receive funds, reroute funds, transfer funds and recycle funds for various personal and family needs of her husband. She was and is still well taken of; her home a $2 million house in the choice area of Potomac, Washington, D.C., It was clear the main purpose of the over thirty (30) accounts the Atiku-Abubakars opened was to receive fraudulent payments and to launder suspect funds.

It was Atiku Abubakar that disgraced U.S. Congressman Bill Jefferson said he needed to give $500,000 as bribe to "motivate" him for an internet technology business in Nigeria for an American firm, iGate Inc. Atiku was found by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to have used his influence at the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) to disburse money from the Fund to promote business ventures for himself and his friends, and engaged in fraudulent conversion of funds, corrupt practices, and money laundering. The Nigerian Senate ad hoc Committee recommended that Atiku Abubakar be sanctioned because he "abused his office by aiding and abetting the diversion of funds in the sum of $145 million" as loans to his friends.

In this day and age, you do expect some semblance of credibility from any one who hope or plan to lead a nation like Nigeria. Atiku Abubakar lacks any credibility. He is neither responsible enough nor reliable enough to lead the Nigerian people. Integrity is one major requirement and condition of leadership and for his failure and dearth of integrity Atiku Abubakar is not fit to lead Nigeria. We disqualify him and find him unsuitable. It is our opinion that Atiku Abubakar should head in the opposite direction from Aso Rock for the purpose of paying for his crimes relating to corruption, money laundering and abuse of office.

Politics / 29 Repentant Militants Trained As Pilot To Attend Courses Abroad by Noraokon: 10:18am On Aug 16, 2013
29 repentant Niger Delta militants recently trained in aviation academies in South Africa as pilots are to be type-rated by German carrier, Lufthansa Airlines in Frankfurt, Germany, and CAE Aviation facility, Oxford, United Kingdom.

The ex-militants, trained under the platform of Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, would be type-rated in Boeing and Airbus aircraft, having acquired Private Pilot Licenses, PPL, and Commercial Pilot Licenses, CPL.

Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Chairman Presidential Amnesty Programme, Mr Kingsley Kuku, yesterday, in Lagos at a conference on oil theft and illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta, said officials of Lufthansa Airlines and CAE Aviation will be in the country next week to follow up on the development.

He expressed delight that the two aviation institutions accepted to give the pilots type-rating courses, and advised the pilots not to allow themselves to be carried away by the success recorded so far.

Kuku, who noted that more of the ex-militants were being trained in aircraft piloting in South Africa, Greece, Jordan and United Arab Emirates, also implored the pilots to re-double efforts and perform better than they did at the Afrika Union Aviation Academy and Flight Training Services in South Africa.

El-Rufai said: I was 25 years old when Buhari and Babangida were Heads of State and I am now 50 and they still want to be Head of State. I don't understand that. Politics / Re: Breaking News: Abu Sa’ad (aka Momodu) Shekau's Deputy Killed By Security Forces by Noraokon: 4:30pm On Aug 14, 2013
[b]Abu Saad and his father were killed in the raid.

The Nigerian military has announced that it has killed the deputy leader of the Boko Haram sect during onslaught against the group in Borno State.

The military Joint Task Force, JTF, said it killed Momodu Bama – aka Abu Saad – on August 14, during an offensive by the sect on a Mobile Police Base, and Bama Town.

Abu Saad was Boko Haram’s Operation Officer and second in command to Abubakar Shekau and was one of the most “vicious and heartless killer in the group with penchant for slaughtering his victims,” the military said in a statement on Tuesday.

Before his death, the JTF placed a N25 million bounty on him.

The military said Abu Saad was killed alongside his father, Abatcha Flatari, who was described as “one the spiritual mentors” of Boko Haram.

He was “in charge of indoctrinating child foot soldiers who are mainly abducted children,” Sagir Musa, spokesman of the Borno JTF, said in the statement.

The military increased its offensive on the sect and other criminal groups in three northeastern states – Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe – after a State of Emergency was declared there in May.

Politics / Soldiers Beat Policeman To A Pulp In Delta State by Noraokon: 2:28pm On Aug 14, 2013
Soldiers on Monday, in Koko, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State attacked and injured police officers from Delta State Police Command, who were on escort duty with the state Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu.

A police corporal who drove one of the police vehicles, was beaten to a bloody pulp by the soldiers for allegedly blaring siren in the premises of the Warri North Local Government Council, which is close to a military outpost. He fainted in the process and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Sources say junior police police officers were planning a showdown with soldiers in the state, as they said it has become a tradition for them to attack police officers in the state without justifiable reasons.

Confirming the attack, State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, said the soldiers accused the police officers of blaring siren inside the secretariat of the council.

“It is sheer brutality. I have reported the matter to the Inspector General of Police and contacted army authorities in the state, but they said they did not authorize the assault.

“They told us that there is no bad blood, but there is bad blood. Why did they attack fellow uniformed men in such a manner in the course of their duty? We are making a formal report on the incident.

“My stand is that the soldiers responsible for this attack should be fished out and made to face the music.”

“The police officers from the B’ Operations Department of the Delta State Police Command were on escort duty with the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu. It was an empowerment programme for the less privileged by the state government and because she was carrying some money for the programme, they requested police escort,” a source told Vanguard.

“As it is usual on such occasion, the siren was on when they entered the premises of Warri North Local Government Coucil and about eight soldiers came from a nearby outpost and asked the police driver, Corporal Ekome, to frog-jump.

“The police officer that led the team came to tell the soldiers that they should stop the confrontation, but the soldiers attacked him, seized his rifle and tore the button on his uniform.

“With the atmosphere charged, more soldiers joined their colleagues and insisted that the police driver must frog-jump, which he resisted.

“The soldiers descended on him, ignoring the appeal from other police officers to stop creating a bad impression of Nigeria security officials in the eyes of the public.

“Some of the policemen wanted to retaliate, but were prevailed upon by the crowd, which watched the show of shame with dismay.

“The commissioner was shocked by the incident as she stood watching without knowing what to make out of the ugly show of power,” the source said.

Politics / Youths Arrest District-Head Connected To Boko-Haram In Maiduguri by Noraokon: 3:39pm On Jun 18, 2013
youths who are on a voluntary mission to help security operatives hunt suspected Boko Haram members, arrested a young district head (Bulama)believed to be a Boko Haram member and handed him over to soldiers in Gwange area of Maiduguri metropolis in Borno State.
The man is said to be the Bulama of Laying Bori in Gwange I Ward in Maiduguri metropolis, who had played major roles in the ugly activities of the sect here in Gwange I ward and other areas of Maiduguri.
Prior to the Bulama’s arrest, we succeeded in catching two suspected Boko Haram members who used Bulama’s house as a hideout.
“We made attempts twice to catch him but he was not available at home during the day time because he used to go out very early in the morning and would not come back until he made sure that people were busy praying Magrib prayer; then he would and enter his house. So for the 3rd time we ambushed him very early in the morning, caught and handed him over to the soldiers,” a youth group leader in Gwange I said.

Politics / B-O-M-B-S-H-E-L-L! Buhari’s Comments On Boko Haram Exposed Him - AYF by Noraokon: 4:51pm On Jun 13, 2013
“why, for instance, should any serious statesman bring himself to ridicule by siding a region against the other?
**the call for Buhari arrest by the CAN President is a good move because the issue of security in the nation needs a concrete solution.

Some concerned members of the Arewa Youths Forum have called on former Head of State Maj-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), to desist from making inciting statements in his quest for political relevance. The youths also advised the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 elections to gauge the mood of Nigerians before throwing his hat in the ring come 2015. Buhari was also advised to stop deluding himself into believing that what happened to those who contested elections in other climes several times before winning would be his fate.

Jibril Mamman Vatsa, the spokesman of the group who made this known in a statement in Kaduna, said the recent statements by Buhari to the effect that the current military operation against the Boko Haram sect was anti-north had exposed him as a sectional leader.
The statement argued further that there was no basis for comparison between the Niger Delta militants and the Boko Haram sect. “It is unthinkable for a former Head of State like Buhari to compare the Niger-Delta militants with terrorists. When late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua talked about amnesty, he gave three months. In the case of Boko Haram, President Jonathan has waived the olive branch without conditions,” the statement said.
The group wondered “why, for instance, should any serious statesman bring himself to ridicule by siding a region against the other?
Reminding Nigerians of the long forgotten controversial utterances by Buhari, the group noted, “There are certain arbitrary, sentimental and contradictory utterances that ought not to be attributed to a national leader which Buhari claims to be. Any leader seeking the good of Nigerians should not expose himself in a ridiculous and jaundice manner as Buhari has done.
“Therefore, the call for his arrest by the CAN President is a responsible one because the issue of security in the nation needs a concrete solution in which people like Buhari should have made suggestions,” the statement added.
According to the group, “Buhari’s vituperations have remained mere talks with no discernible contents and signposts. Therefore, talking about a Boko Haram that has consigned those opposed to their plots and comparing them with the Niger-Delta militants is prejudicial to one Nigeria, over-heats the polity and at best a setback to the nation he has once ruled as Head of State." He stressed that if the Boko Haram members are becoming more daring by the day, it is because of the support given to them by some highly placed persons.

Crime / Food Seller Confesses To Using Mortuary Water To Cook Food (pics) by Noraokon: 4:19pm On Jun 12, 2013
A woman who is the owner of a popular buka in Portharcourt confessed last Saturday to using diabolical means to entice customers, as well as take their “destinies.”
According to eye witnesses, the woman, who is from Akwa Ibom, suddenly ran mad while at her buka located at Aleto in Eleme Local Government area of Port-Harcourt, Rivers state.

They say she suddenly started acting bizarre, tore her clothes and started confessing how she employed diabolical means for the growth of her business.

In her confession, she said she mixes water used to bathe corpses with her food, as well as water from her private part and menstruation blood. She said she did all these to attract customers whose “destinies” she used for the growth of her business and riches.
She then ran around town unclad, confessing her atrocities, appearing to have lost her sanity.
The news of her confession spread around the area, and some of her customers (including Okada men) and angry onlookers descended on her and gave her the beating of her life, before Police men intervened and took her away.

Politics / Boko Haram Needs To Be Crushed - Sheik Gumi by Noraokon: 1:17pm On Mar 27, 2013
Dr. Ahmad Gumi, fearless cleric and son of the late famous Sheik Abubakar Mahmoud Gumi, today kicked against amnesty for the Boko Haram sect as has been proposed by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III and several prominent Nigerians, saying they ought to be crushed.

Gumi who once escaped being killed by some suspected terrorists, made the remarks in a sermon monitored in our New York office from his social media network.

In it, Gumi declared that were Prophet Mohammed himself to be alive today, he would personally have led the way in exterminating the sect.

“Every individual in this nation is concerned about the future,” he stressed. “Nigeria is catalytically deteriorating. Today the national discourse is on corruption and amnesty for terrorism.”

He noted that many people have missed the crux of the matter. “Corruption is incurable, it is only suppressed. That is by genuine ethics/faith illumination campaigns like the ethical revolution, War Against Indiscipline, Re-brand Nigeria etc. and …an effective system of accountability (i.e. checks and balances) or what can be summed up as good governance.”

Turning to the Boko Haram insurgency, he described it as hypocritical, pointing out that as an ideology, Boko Haram respects no law, the Quran or Hadith or Scholarly fatwa. “They have their own interpretation, anything short of that is part of the enemy that should be killed. So on what basis should there be dialogue or amnesty? It is a creed that must be crushed; it is a creed the prophet – alaihis Salam- wished he is alive to exterminate.”

Politics / Ogun State Police Command Dispels Rumor Of Beheaded Students by Noraokon: 11:04am On Mar 26, 2013
The rumour was created to instill fear in Nigerians, the police spokesperson said.
The rumour of three beheaded corpse of some students lying along the Ijebu-Ibadan Road in Ogun State is false, the Ogun State Police Command said on Monday.
The social media had been agog with the rumour that the students, three females, had been beheaded with their bodies lying on the street.
“3 corpses that has been beheaded suspected to be females was thrown from a Range-Rover Sport Jeep @ Ijebu-Ode–Ibadan road just now…One is fair in complexion with Unilag School I.D card (Yetunde Ajao) inside her hand-bag, the second is an OOUITE student(Oyindamola Esan),also fair in complexion and kinda tall and the last one is short, plumpy and dark with no identity… Please if you know any of these girls kindly notify their friends or family member 2come right away and remove their corpse.
On-coming vehicles can run over them @ anytime because they were dumped by the road side….. May God save Ladies of nowadyz and the way they hustle for money, and to those that still do hot-jobs,” the broadcast message read.
But speaking to journalist in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the police debunked the rumour. The Ogun State Police Command Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the rumour was created to instill fear in the minds of Nigerians.
“The attention of the command has been drawn to the rumour of 3 beheaded female corpses dumped along Ijebu/Ibadan road in Ogun State which was widely circulated on Sunday 24th March on a social network.
“The message was a mere rumour calculated to create fears in the minds of Nigerians. The command urges the general public to disregard this message as it is the handiwork of mischief makers,” Mr. Adejobi said.
The command spokesman, however, assured the public of its commitment to provide adequate security for the state.

don't think that was what she meant. i saw the program and i think she was trying to say that Nigerian security agencies are not getting the necessary cooperation from the citizens who most times take things for granted. she really emphasized the need for people to be security conscious.
gbanikiti: so people that died in the bomb blast should be blamed for their death? Instead of the security agents to admit their failure to safeguard the lives and properties of defenceless nigerians, they are looking for whom to blame.smh
