A total of 49 people have been killed in a mosque shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand, Over 40 injured with 20 in critical condition.

The attacker targeted the Al Noor Mosque in the center of the city and Linwood Mosque, about three miles away

The shooter under the name Brenton Tarrant live streamed video of the attack and posted a manifesto online. He is 28 years old. Just before the attack, an account believed to belong to the gunman posted a link to an 87-page white nationalist manifesto online. The unsigned manifesto is filled with anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim sentiments, as well as explanations for an attack.

A three-storey building housing a nursery/primary school collapsed in Ita-Faji area of Lagos on Wednesday with scores of pupils and other reportedly trapped.

Eyewitness said Over 50 children have been rescued and 9 bodies where also taken out of the building. Though rescue agency said they can’t put a figure to the number of casualties.

The building is about 30 years and according to neighbours, the building had been marked twice for demolition by the authorities.

An Ethiopian Airlines plane from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to Nairobi, Kenya, crashed shortly after takeoff on Sunday morning. All 157 people on board the flight have died, the airline says.

According to CNN The dead were of 32 different nationalities, including eight Americans and one Nigerian.

There is no suggestion yet as to what may have caused the disaster but pilot reported difficulties and asked to turn back, airline CEO, Tewolde GebreMariam says. He was given clearance to turn back.

Lagos State High Court on Friday sentenced Lekan Shonde to death by hanging for killing his wife, Ronke Shonde.

51-year-old Lekan, a depot worker in the Apapa area of Lagos State, was found guilty of the murder of his wife for allegedly beating her to death in 2016.

He was alleged to have locked the door on the corpse and their two children before the incident was discovered by a housekeeper and later reported to the police.

President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been re-elected for a second four-year term.

The 76-year-old defeated his main rival, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, with a margin of almost four million votes. Though there were reports of low-turn out as only 35% of registered voters came out to vote. Also video evidence of violence, destroying of voting materials and stolen ballot papers were reported.

President Trump touched on Wednesday tweeted that he wants to ban transgender people from serving in the U.S. military in any capacity — citing advice from his “generals” and medical costs.

In a series of tweets, he wrote:

A doctor, Henry Bello opened fire with an assault rifle on Friday inside a New York City hospital where he used to work.

The 45-year old doctor shot and killed a woman also wounding six people before setting himself on fire and shooting himself in the head.

The shooting started a little before 3 p.m. ET at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital. The shooter was wearing a white lab coat with AR-15 rifle. Henry Bello, was a “disgruntled former employee” who worked at the hospital from August 2014 to February 2015. Bello resigned before he was to be fired after being accused of sexual harassment .

Former Newcastle star, Cheick Tiote is dead, aged 30.

According to report, the Ivorian collapsed in training whilst playing for Chinese League One club Beijing Enterprises after suffering a heart attack. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but doctors were unable to save him.

A statement from Beijing Enterprise said: “At 6pm on June 5, Tiote fell unconscious during training. He was immediately taken to hospital but died at 7pm.”

The Cottage Avenue Pentecostal Fellowship in Indianapolis installed of concrete statue of Jesus five years ago after it was donated by the daughter of one of its members. But on the statue’s first day it was vandalized.

“The first time we put it up, they knocked it over,” . The statue was put back in place and the church thought no more of it for years, Pastor Brad Flaskamp told CNN.
Until two weeks ago, when someone beheaded the statue. Luckily, Jesus’ head was left behind and the church was able to reattach it on Saturday. But the next day, vandals struck again.

And this time, they took the head with them.

Pop star Rihanna has been named the Humanitarian of Year 2017 by Harvard University.

“Rihanna has charitably built a state-of- the-art center for oncology and nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat breast cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados,” said S. Allen Counter, the Harvard Foundation’s director.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has announced the reintroduction of bank charges from April 1st 2017.

Banks will from that date begin to charge individuals 1.5 per cent and two per cent for deposits and withdrawals between N500,000 and N1m.

Individuals depositing or withdrawing N5m will be charged three per cent.

For amounts above N5m, banks will charge such individuals three per cent and 7.5 per cent for deposits and withdrawals, respectively.

For ccorporate customers, the CBN stated that deposits and withdrawals under N3m would not attract any charge, but that such customers depositing or withdrawing between N3m and N10m would be charged two per cent and five per cent, respectively.

More than $91,000 have been raised by Muslim Americans to help repair the headstones at a Jewish cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri after it was vandalized.

The century old Jewish cemetery (Chesed Shel Emeth Society) was attacked and over 170 cemetery headstones were destroyed.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence who visited the graveyard on Wednesday told clean-up volunteers, state officials and reporters that there was no place in America for hatred, violence, anti-Semitism or acts of prejudice.

“I must tell you the people of Missouri are inspiring the nation by your love and care of this place, for the Jewish community in Missouri and I want to thank you for that inspiration,” Pence said.

Pesident Donald Trump on Tuesday has directed his administration to aggressively enforce the nation’s immigration laws by arresting and deporting those in the country illegally, regardless of whether they have committed serious crimes.

According to New York Times, Trump’s ambitions is to publicize crimes by immigrants; enlist local police officers as enforcers; strip immigrants of privacy rights; erect new detention facilities; discourage asylum seekers; and, ultimately, speed up deportations.

The family of the late Nigerian deportee, Osamuyi Aikpitanhi, who was killed by Spanish immigration officials while being deported 10 years ago, have notified both the Spanish and Nigerian authorities of their intention to hold a protest at the Spanish Consulate General office in Lagos to press for justice and compensation almost 10 years after he was brutally killed.

The deceased from Edo State, 23, at the time of his death was bound hands and feet and an industrial duct tape over his mouth at the time he was being deported on June 9, 2007 from Madrid, Spain to Lagos. He died as a result of asphyxia resulting on-board Iberia Airline flight.

“While putting the him inside the aircraft, the Spanish Immigration officials covered the deceased with a sack in order to prevent other passengers traveling on the aircraft from observing the undignified and inhumane manner in which the deceased was restrained,” the letter read. The treatment, Mr. Aikpitanhi narrated led to the deceased “choking in his vomit, with excrement all over his body. Official medical reports admit the decedent died of suffocation.”

US President Donald Trump spoke with Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari. The two presidents spoke on Monday, February 13, after it was announced.

In a statement by Femi Adesina who is the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, he said Trump commended Buhari in the success recorded in the fight against Boko Haram and promised better collaboration between the two countries.

He also said the US will continue to support Nigeria in the fight against terrorism by providing military weapons.

The son of Gambia’s President-elect Adama Barrow has died after being bitten by a dog.
Eight-year-old Habibu Barrow is reported to have died on the way to the hospital on Sunday in Manjai near the Gambian capital Banjul.
Barrow missed his son’s funeral as he was advised to remain in Senegal for his safety. Barrow won the election last year but outgoing President Yahya Jammeh does not accept the result.


The regional body ECOWAS has asked Mr Barrow to stay in Senegal until Thursday – the planned date of the inauguration. ECOWAS is also considering military intervention to force Mr Jammeh to relinquish power.

Dylann Roof, 22, a white supremacist who shot dead nine black churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina in 2015, has been formally sentenced to death as recommended by the jury.

Roof, who was convicted last month of 33 federal charges, including hate crimes resulting in death, was condemned to death on Tuesday by a unanimous jury after about three hours of deliberations.

Roof is the first person to get the death penalty for federal hate crimes.
