An Okadarider is currently fighting for his life after he was attacked by a thief who disguised as a customer.

The 19-year-old Okada rider was left unconscious after he was repeatedly slashed at the back of his head with machete by a passenger. It was gathered that the passenger, Inyang (surname withheld) boarded the bike from Onna head bridge down to his house at Ikot ebekpo in Akwa Ibom. But the passenger tricked the young Okada rider to a bush before attacking him.


Thinking that the Okada rider was dead, he stole his bike, mobile phone and ran away but was apprehended by the police.

Muslim designer, Anniesa Hasibuan made history at New York Fashion Week by showing the first-ever collection to feature hijabs in every outfit.

Zimbabwe has known only one leader since independence. First as prime minister, then president. 92-year old Robert Mugabe has been the leader of Zimbabwe for the last 36 years.

President Mugabe took office in 1980 after a brutal war and negotiated peace deal.


But now the youths and young leaders have emerged to challenge Mugabe’s political leadership. There have been challenges, opposition and violence in the recent years, but the 92-year-old leader has always known how to deal with it and stay in power, frequently using brutal tactics.

Tousands of people marched throughout Mexico on Saturday to protest against President Enrique Pena Nieto’s initiative to legalise gay marriage.

The National Front for the Family – a coalition of conservative religious groups – called for the protests, and is also planning a mass march for September 24 in Mexico City.

“Long live the family, in the image of the Virgin Mary, the baby Jesus and Saint Joseph,” read one sign at the protest in the city of Puebla, the capital of a central Mexican state with a strong Catholic presence.


“Papa + Mama = Happy Family,” read another sign at that protest, where many of the protesters dressed in white and carried pink, blue and white-colored balloons.

Team Nigeria athlete, Rolland Ezuruike has set a new Paralympic record of 190kg to win gold in the men’s -54kg on Friday at the 2016 Rio Paralympics in Brazil.

His first lift of 185kg broke the previous Paralympic record before he extended it with his second lift of 190kg.

Latifat Tijani won the first medal for Nigeria winning silver in the women’s 45kg Powerlifting after lifting 106kg.

The US Federal Aviation Administration strongly urged passengers onThursday not to turn on or charge Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones on aircraft following recent reports of explosions from faulty batteries.

Samsung last week suspended sales of the “phablet” and recalled 2.5 million units following the reports.

In light of recent incidents and concerns raised by Samsung about its Galaxy Note 7 devices, the Federal Aviation Administration strongly advises passengers not to turn on or charge these devices on board aircraft and not to stow them in any checked baggage,” the FAA said in a statement.

Mother Teresa, a Catholic nun who devoted her life to helping India’s poor during her life has been declared a saint of the Roman Catholic Church.

Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity (a Roman Catholic religious congregation) in 1950. The Charity as at 2012 consisted of over 4,500 sisters and was active in 133 countries. The Charity cares for people dying of HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis; soup kitchens; dispensaries and mobile clinics; children’s and family counselling programmes; orphanages; and schools. Members must adhere to the vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, as well as a fourth vow, to give “wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor”.

Mother Teresa faced lot of criticism during her lifetime. Her most outspoken critics was an Atheist writer, Christopher Hitchens who made a documentary about her called “Hell’s Angel”.

For women, cervical or cervix cancer can be deadly. While statistics about this cancer is frightening, cervical cancer can be prevented, and treated if detected early.

Worldwide, cervical cancer is both the fourth most common cause of cancer and the fourth most common cause of death from cancer in women. In 2012, it was estimated that there were 528,000 cases of cervical cancer, and 266,000 deaths.


Cervical cancer is most commonly caused by HPV or the human papillomavirus, which is highly contagious. This virus is an STI (sexually transmitted infection) and comes in many types but only some cause cervical cancer. An HPV infection might go away on its own or could cause abnormal cell growth that may lead to cervical cancer.

Ninety people were killed in Chicago in August, the city’s deadliest month for gun violence in 20 years.

One of the most shocking killings occurred August 26 when Nykea Aldridge was pushing a baby stroller and was caught in the crossfire of a street shooting. Several men started shooting. One of the bullets hit her in the head. Another struck her in an arm. She died about 45 minutes later at a hospital.

Movie star Jackie Chan will receive an honorary Oscar statuette at the Academy’s 8th Annual Governors Awards to be held in November.

The decision was made by the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science recently after voting to present the award to Chan.


The actor posted this on his Facebook: “It’s been 56 years since I filmed my first movie when I was six, and I’ve worked on over 200 films to date,” the posting said. “I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to the Oscars for giving me this award of encouragement and recognizing my achievements while I’m still ‘young.'”

The world’s highest and longest glass-bottomed bridge was opened to the public on 22 August. But just 13 days later the structure, which spans a spectacular canyon between two mountain cliffs in central Hunan province, has been forced to close.

Officials told CNN that the popularity of the tourist attraction meant urgent maintenance in the area was needed.

“We’re overwhelmed by the volume of visitors,” a spokesperson from the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon’s marketing and sales department said.


He said the bridge could hold 8,000 people per day

A pastor with the Jesus Miracle Ministries, Awka, Anambra State, Ekene Adaoji, has fled after allegedly raping a 13-year-old boy.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the pastor was told by a traditionalist that his homosexual habit would be cured if he slept with a male teenager.


The victim, who hails from Ebonyi State, said the suspect tricked him by asking him to stay behind after a vigil.

He said, “The pastor told me to wait till dawn and when I insisted on going home, he applied a substance on my eyes which made me to sleep.

“When I woke up, I noticed that my trousers were torn and my anus was damp. I also felt pains in my anus. I went home to inform my people about what happened.”

Joe Fortemose Chinakwe who was arrested by men of the Nigerian police force for naming his Dog Buhari has expressed his sadness over the killing of his dog.

The 30 year old trader said that he named his dog Buhari after President Muhammadu Buhari because he had admired President Buhari for many years. He was arrested by the Ogun Sttate Police for breach of the peace and was released after his three-day incarceration in police cell.

In an interview with TVC after his release, the visibly angry trader expressed his sadness

It’s very unfortunate that newly weds Emeka and Nkechi Ofor are starting off in a horrible way. This incident occurred on the 26th of June in Umuahia, Abia State. During their white wedding ceremony, Nkechi was heard threatening to stab her groom, Emeka, due to a problem with the sharing of food to her family members.

Nkechi’s stance was that she felt her family was not given as much food as she desired, especially as she contributed the most for the ceremony.


According to online report, one of the caterers tried to explain to the bride but her temper rose and she flung bottles at the man. When Emeka her newly wedded husband tried to intervene, Nkechi was heard threatening to stab him and herself if she did not have her way.

A Bolivian government minister has been beaten to death by striking mine workers after being kidnapped, the government said.

Rodolf Illanes, deputy interior minister, had gone to talk to protesting workers on Thursday in Panduro, around 160km (100 miles) from the capital, La Paz, but was intercepted and kidnapped.

“At this present time, all the indications are that our deputy minister Rodolfo Illanes has been brutally and cowardly assassinated,” minister of government Carlos Romero said in broadcast comments. The government was trying to recover his body, Romero said.
