Osu caste system: Discrimination and slavery in the 21st century

It is only amongst the Igbo that a highly discriminatory caste system is still culturally in effect.

The Osu caste system goes against all laws both that of God and man in which a set of people have been set aside as untouchables.

Banned from holding any position of reverence in Igbo culture, the Osu is condemned to remain within his or her caste system and forbidden to marry outside it.

This system is so revered in Igbo land that the first thing a prospective groom or bride will first ask his or her partners is if they are an Osu. Some grooms even go as far as going to the fiancé's village to make inquiries behind her back to confirm her status. Where it is proven that the bride or groom is of the OSU class the wedding is immediately called off and the relationship severed instantly .

Biafra is the short hand form of writing Bight of Mafra .

Just as one will use Isl in place of Island, Bi was used in place of Bight.
