Major issue I know about the vehicle is rust. My former neighbor got his own brand-new tear rubber. He was very lacking in maintenance but this car always responded all the time and rarely saw mechanic working on it.

5 - the maf seemed to be over reporting airflow, the readings were always high, from 2.4 to 4 and above, i thought changing it would fix the issue, but the reading has reduced a bit now, around 2.0 to 2.4 with the new sensor, though the first few days after installation, I was getting maf air flow as low as 1.9
There's no fault code, it came initially with a bad downstream 02 sensor and i replaced it and the light cleared but still consuming fuel. The only other fault code it has ever shown is the p0420 (catalyst efficiency below threshold) but I've cleared the code with my scanner and it hasn't come back. Can catalyst alone be the cause of the high fuel consumption? 17-20ltrs/100km

Also for me if i am in your shoes, i will go the easy route first, gather funds and fill your tank, do 100km then refill tank, if possible try it three times lets get an average. if you are getting anything higher than 10L (i factored in age of the vehicle and mileage) for city/combined then i can say the catalyst effect is letting the ECU dump more fuel than expected.

But if you are getting close to 15 to 20L per 100km, my brother you may have a leak. I am saying leak because i have experienced it, especially from the tank area which may not even give odour for quick detection, one has to go under to confirm.

The way you calculate your mpg isn't really standard. You are supposed to buy full tank, do 100km then refill, that will tell you the mpg using the fuel gauge isn't standard because gravity affects it. Also the fuel level sensor is just showing a picture of what is available in the tank, it may not show difference when you you are 10L difference. Reason why when your tank is full, rate of reduction is slow, but when you enter half tank, rate of reduction recorded is high.

Catalyst job is to convert harmful gases into environmental friendly gas not fuel economy. The place fuel economy effect come into play is through the attached oxygen sensors. But it is still possible the inefficiency recorded by the ECU on the CC is causing the high fuel consumption.

Since you said the check engine light isn't on, let's rule out things that can't be scanned
1. Tire type you are using and the pressure pumped into them. Bigger tires has changed your stock setup by the manufacturer

2. Your driving pattern and habit, if you are heavy footed on the accelerator, expect higher than normal fuel usage.

3. Does the vehicle have a mpg calculator? If no, then how did you calculate the mpg.

4. What engine is in your civic or which trim LX, EX, Sir? You may have bigger engine than regular civics.

5. You said you changed the MAF, why did you change it? MAF may be letting in more air than necessary and ECU trying to compensate for that, though I believe there should be a code.

Odometer is in kilometres not miles, I'm very sure. There's a button to switch between the two.

There is no fault code bro, just that from live data, long term fuel trim is -11. Injector width is 4.6ms

Injector width is within specs for idle. Your ltft says the engine is running rich, check your fan if they are direct and your thermostat if it is still there.

Also check your fuel tank, to ensure no leak from there.

Had a bent tire from the front side, they were bought new and already did 2yrs plus. I was sha managing it, got to Lagos Saturday night and promised to enter market on Monday for Tokunbo.
My mum was heading out on Sunday and I offered to drive her after all a bent tire that did 200km on very bad roads should be able to do 30km on smooth and small rough road (island to Ikorodu).

I was calm and allowed the vehicle to come to a slow speed and parked after the right turn to Oshodi. That was my first major tire issue since I have been driving.

Injectors have settings? I've never heard this one before. Please educate us on how this setting works and how to adjust it?

1. What I mean by settings is standard, which is controlled by the ECU. The mechanic could have replaced his with wrong injectors.

2. They could have washed the injector with the wrong fluid thereby weakening the seals, it would cause leakage of fuel into the combustion chamber more than what the ECU should be spraying.

1. Change your mechanic first.

2. When you get a competent mechanic explain to him the fingering done by the previous mechanic, if he is good, he will know where to start from.

As coil has been changed plus spark plugs, next is to check the cylinders for compression nah him go lead to what is causing your misfire

But the former mechanic miss diagnosed the vehicle reason you are in this quagmire.

Please which oil is best to service a Naija used Honda DC. Previous owner replaced the engine not long ago & used 20w-50 for it

If the engine is Tokunbo 5w30 should suffice. If you notice smoke or oil burn then maintain 20w50, change every 3000km or 3months which ever comes first

Method of Calculation
To calculate the fuel consumption, I used the following method:

- I reset the trip meter after each fuel refill.
- I drive normally until the fuel gauge shows yellow again.
- The trip meter consistently shows around 110 km, indicating that 23 liters of fuel is consumed over this distance.

Observed Issues
- *High fuel consumption:* The vehicle's fuel consumption is higher than expected for a Honda Civic 1.8-liter engine, even with the air conditioner on.

Please What could be the cause and solution.it's a tokunbo vehicle, though the mileage is high.

Boss nurey i changed all my honda civic older model four 4 injector nozzles, since then i noticed higher fuel consumption could the nozzle cause the higher fuel consumption

Yes injectors have settings, check the exhaust if there is black smoke coming out from over dumping of fuel which results in incomplete combustion.

Hello house

Please my check engine light started flashing and engine was rough idling as i was coming home today.

Scanned it and i saw P0303 cylinder 3 misfire
I know i have to check the coil especially on cylinder 3 because my mech just changed the 4 plugs during my last service last month.

Please what else should i look out for when checking tomorrow... Thanks

Easy diagnosis.

Switch coil 3 to another cylinder, if still same, switch the plugs. If the error moves from 3 to another cylinder, the coil or plugs is faulty. If it stays in cylinder 3, that cylinder has an issue, could be compression or overheating caused by gasket etc.

No need to run the fan direct yet or remove thermostat.

1. Let your mechanic check the condition of your water pump attached to the thermostat housing. Then replace the thermostat if you can maybe it is stucked closed.

2. Check your fans, they maybe weak, blowing in wrong direction or not working as expected.

3. Check the radiator too, it maybe clogged or expired. It was what caused my own overheating for identical vehicle outright change is the solution, brand-new not Tokunbo.

Checks will pinpoint exactly where the cooling issue is. Also better to use coolant than water in radiator.

Age affects turbo chargers I believe they pegged it at 150k miles. It is a replaceable component.

Yes oil quality and condition would affects the lifespan of turbo charger kit. So ensure you monitor your oil changes and be weary of low quality engine oil

yeah, I am inclined to believe it's lack of expertise regarding turbo. The way the mechanic talked ehn like it's one ticking time bomb if one buys it.

1. The oil dilution problem with the turbo engine but since you are okay with it, no issue.

2. Turbo engines need judicious fluid usage because they tend to work hotter, also the oil helps in cooling the turbo kit so recommended oil with right weight is highly required.

3. NA engines last longer than turbo fitted engines.

4. Expertise isn't really an issue if you are willing to learn about your vehicle and go extra mile to look for competent hands.

It is a good development, the way nylon and takeaway pack block drainage in Lagos is alarming, Obalende under bridge is an eyesore.

Lagos Island canals too nah eyesore. You will now see poo inside takeaway floating during floods in Lagos.

If the price of brand-new innosonn vehicle tallies with average price of Tokunbo, then many would rather buy new vehicles.

About 90% of Nigerian automobile buyers can only afford used vehicles. Innoson doesn't sell used vehicles but brand-new ones.

Also we have what is called comparative advantage, which Nigerian automobile manufacturers\assemblage doesn't have against other countries.

I don't understand is the headlamp of the vehicle not working?

1. Driver should know and see objects floating in the water, the type of object (plastic dustbin etc) has already told you the level of water a sedan can wade in.

2. The headlamp will tell you the water level is dangerous. When water is covering the headlamps desist from moving further.

3. When water has engulfed your vehicle to a dangerous level, switch off ignition even if you can't park to oneside. Anything that makes water to get close to the bonnet is dangerous for air intake which will send water into the engine.

4. He should have seen other vehicles and objects by the road, immediately he shouldn't have enter that huge level of water.

If he switched off the car, it would be okay as long as no be salt water, he just need to check all fluid, if water has entered he will drain and refill.

RX for premium luxury.
