Attacks on schools: Abolish boarding schools in rural areas, FG tells stakeholders The federal government has urged stakeholders in the education sector to consider temporary abolition of boarding schools in the rural areas as part of measures to curb the menace of incessant attacks on educational institutions across the country. Boko haram insurgents, bandits and other criminal groups usually take advantage of soft targets. This suggestion was made Thursday by the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Andrew David Adejo, while opening the 81st Joint Consultative Committee meeting on education (JCCE) in Yola, Adamawa state capital. The theme of the meeting was: ‘Strengthening security and safety in Nigerian schools for the achievements of education 2030 agenda.’ He urged stakeholders to consider some security measures including temporary abolition of boarding schools in rural areas. “We must, therefore begin to take full advantage of opportunities presented by the federal government, states, NGOS, development partners and relevant stakeholder’s especially in the areas of implementation and domestication of the safe schools initiative. “Securing a $20 million grant for accelerated funding for the North -east from global partnership for education and the conduct of vulnerability survey on schools by NSCDC will enable it devise strategies that would secure them. “Adoption of some specific safety measures like abolishing of boarding schools in rural areas for the meantime, drilling of students and teachers on emergency security measures, creating special security units for schools, constructions of perimeter wall around schools and infusion of security studies into the curriculum of our institutions,” are some of the suggestions he made. https://www.blueprint.ng/attacks-on-schools-abolish-boarding-schools-in-rural-areas-fg-tells-stakeholders/ https://i0.wp.com/www.blueprint.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/images-6-6.jpeg |

THE Zamfara State Government has suspended the Emir of Birnin Yandoto, Aliyu Garba Marafa, for turbanning a notorious bandit leader Ado Aliero, as Sarkin Fulani. Aliero was turbaned as a leader of the Fulani by the Emir on Saturday. According to the Emir, Aliero was conferred the title for the pivotal role he played during a recent peace process between the emirate and the bandits terrorising Tsafe Local Government Area. However, the state government, in a statement released on July 18 by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Kabiru Balarabe Sardauna, has directed the immediate suspension of the Emir. The state government also dissociated itself from the turbanning of the bandit leader. Parts of the statement read: “This is to inform the general public that the Zamfara State Government has dissociated itself from the alleged turbanning of a Sarkin Fulani by the Emir of Birnin ‘Yandoto of Tsafe Local Government Area. “In this regard, the State Executive Governor, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has directed the suspension of the Emir with immediate effect.” The government further added that it has formed a six-man committee chaired by Yahaya Chado Gora to investigate the circumstances leading to the action taken by the Emir. “Accordingly, the Executive Governor has approved the appointment of a Committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the action of the Emir.” The government also directed the District Head of ‘Yandoto, Mahe Garba Marafa, to take charge of the affairs of the emirate. https://www.icirnigeria.org/zamfara-govt-suspends-emir-for-turbanning-bandit-as-sarkin-fulani/ |
