Following the recent approval of the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to start operations, Air Peace, has announced that it would begin scheduled flights into the airport on Tuesday, December 7. ![]() The airline’s spokesperson, Stanley Olisa, in a statement said passengers can now fly directly from Lagos and Abuja into the airport located at Umeri in Anambra State, adding that the airline would kick-off with four flights per week. He said passengers can start booking on Air Peace’s website or its mobile app and revealed that in the coming months, the airline plans to connect the state to other cities besides Lagos and Abuja. He said the route expansion policy of the airline is a reflection of its no-city-left-behind initiative which has seen the airline expand its footprints both in Nigeria and beyond while easing the transportation burden of Nigerians. “This is great news for the people of Anambra State as we are launching four flights weekly into the new airport on Tuesday. For a start, we shall be operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and as operations gather momentum, we shall increase frequencies to daily flights. ![]() “By the end of January 2022, we will have commenced the following connections: Anambra-Kano-Anambra, Anambra-Ibadan-Anambra and Anambra-Port Harcourt-Anambra. Air Peace is unwaveringly determined to interconnect Nigeria, providing connections which facilitate seamless economic exchanges and foster unity,” Olisa said. Air Peace currently services 19 domestic routes, nine regional routes and two international destinations, and operates a fleet of 32 aircraft, including four brand new Embraer 195-E2 jets and two Airbus 320s. https://www.sunnewsonline.com/air-peace-to-commence-flights-to-anambra-airport-dec-7/ |

In an ideal world you raise your child to be a decent human being where violence is unnecessary. Unfortunately in Nigeria you need a fighting element to your character - and this needs to be instilled by parents at a young age. Throughout life you'll be faced and confronted with bullshiit and the without any 'fight' in you life will be miserable. |

The price of Bonny Light, Nigeria's premium oil grade, yesterday, dropped further to $69.81, from $73 recorded the previous day in the global oil market. This development was attributed to the negative impact of Omicron variant of the Coronavirus pandemic spread to major oil consuming nations, thus affecting demand. In an interview with Vanguard, the Promoter, EnergyHub Nigeria, Dr. Felix Amieyeofori, had said: "The coming of Omicron Variant is a big surprise, especially to many people and institutions that were pleased with the relative stability the oil market had enjoyed in the past few months. "The instability, characterised by low prices will likely return in the coming weeks as oil consuming nations and others, who were not prepared for its occurrence continue to lockdown their economies. "Expectedly, the lockdown would culminate in shutdown of industries, travelling and other activities, thus reducing the demand for oil globally. "The low demand for oil would affect the revenues of members of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, including Nigeria until researchers, currently carrying out tests find lasting solutions to it." But in another interview with Vanguard yesterday, an Economist and Chief Executive Officer, Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, Dr. Muda Yusuf, said: "It is unlikely that the pandemic situation would degenerate to a level worse than the 2020 experience. Besides, the past one year has provided some learning experiences on the management of the pandemic. It is unlikely that we would witness anything near the shocks of 2020." However, speaking at the opening of the OPEC conference, yesterday, Secretary General OPEC, HE Muhammad Barkindo, the volatile market was loaded with many uncertainties. He said: "We need to consider the market implications of last week's announcement of the possible coordinated release of 70 million barrels of oil from the strategic reserves of several consuming countries. The implications of such uncertainties for excess supply in 1Q-2Q2022 should be carefully monitored. "The future of monetary policies, inflationary pressures, and the possible reintroduction of lockdowns, vaccine uptake rates, the vaccine-resistance of the Omicron variant and supply-chain bottlenecks are some of the uncertainties clouding the picture." https://allafrica.com/stories/202112020411.html |

Fully vaccinated travellers will be required to take pre-departure Covid-19 tests before coming to, or returning to the UK, despite the Transport Secretary warning that such a move could “kill off the travel sector again”. On Saturday afternoon, the Cabinet’s Covid operations sub-committee signed off on proposals to reintroduce a requirement for all travellers to take tests before coming to the country, coming into force from 4 am on Tuesday, in an attempt to slow down the spread of omicron. Ministers also agreed to place Nigeria on the travel red list, also from 4 am on Tuesday, requiring arrivals to quarantine for 11 nights in a government-approved hotel at a cost of up to £2,285. Sajid Javid said: “These are temporary measures. We want to remove them as soon as we possibly can. [Omicron] is growing and we expect many more cases.” Regarding Nigeria, he added: “We have learnt of a significant number of growing cases linked to travel with Nigeria. There are 27 cases already in England and that’s growing. Nigeria is now second only to South Africa in terms of linked cases to omicron.” The announcement came as Lord Tyrie, the former head of the competition watchdog, warned that holidaymakers faced a return to “overpriced, unreliable and substandard” PCR tests. Under the new rule, those coming to the UK will be required to take a PCR or lateral flow test 48 hours before their flight. The decision to reintroduce pre-departure tests was intended to slow the spread of omicron. Sources said ministers had acted on the basis of data that suggested patients with the variant become infectious more quickly than those with delta. The airline industry accused the Government of rushing into the restrictions with insufficient information, following a devastating period for the sector since the start of the pandemic in early 2020. Tim Alderslade, chief executive of Airlines UK, said: “We don’t know what this is yet and it is premature to hit industry and passengers before we see the full data. “The red list extension made complete sense – that’s what it’s there for – but we know from experience that blanket restrictions do not stop the importation of variants. It’s already here. “They’ve now changed their travel advice twice within a week. It’s impossible for anyone to plan. Last week Mr Shapps said he hoped Britain would not reintroduce pre-departure tests telling Chopper’s Politics Podcast: “Do you want to kill off the travel sector again without knowing that you need to? Or do you want to take the right level of calibrated response? “This Government thinks we should take a calibrated response, which doesn’t take us right back to the beginning of this [pandemic] … I believe in transport and I don’t want to see a world where we’re always finding excuses to restrict it. Of course, you’ve got to respond responsibly. That’s what I think we’ve done.” https://tribuneonlineng.com/omicron-variant-uk-places-nigeria-on-red-list/ |

Tough call....... @HellowWriter What happened to the boy is tragic. I don't think he looked tough enough to live away from home (even if it was a fancy school). What character did the parents instil in the child? To turn the other cheek or to fight back? Fathers/parents need to be realistic with their children especially in the contraption called Nigeria where anything goes! Self defence is a must for both males and females. As for the school it's clearly not a safe environment for children so should be closed. |
