Politics › Insecurity: Ban Foreign Fulani Herders, Says Ganduje by NwaNimo1(op): 7:32pm On Feb 11, 2021
The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has faulted the recent comment made by Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai on the security situation in the North-West region.

Recall that Gov El-Rufai had recently stated on BBC Hausa service that lack of synergy among governors of the North-West was hampering security efforts in the region.

However, speaking on Radio France International, monitored in Kano on Thursday, Ganduje said El-Rufai might not understand the security efforts put in place by the governors of the area.

According to Ganduje, security agencies in the country had advised Kano, Kaduna and Bauchi States to collaborate and check security challenges in the notorious Falgore forest in Tudun Wada and Doguwa LGAs of Kano state.

“The issue of lack of synergy does not arise in this context because security agencies have advised us to come and meet with Kano, Kaduna and Bauchi states to see how the activities of bandits in Falgore forest could be contained.

“I intimated both governors of Kaduna and Bauchi. Both had sent their delegations.

“There was the issue of the fund. Kano, Kaduna and Bauchi had all donated their funds and the exercise was eventually successful.

”The way I see it, the Governor did not understand security issues well because the security situation depends on the nature of a state. For instance, no matter how we strongly collaborate as governors, how should we check ethnic clashes in Kaduna? How should we check religious differences in Kaduna? You see, this is a problem that can only be checked by the Kaduna State government itself.

“Therefore, any security issue in a state depends on the efforts of the state government, the federal government, the security agencies and the people of the state.

Politics › Herdsmen Crisis: I Don’t Believe Buhari Is In Charge, Says Soyinka by NwaNimo1(op): 7:14pm On Feb 11, 2021

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and Prof. Wole Soyinka
Kayode Oyero

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, says he does not believe the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is in charge of the captaincy of the nation.

Soyinka spoke on Thursday on an Arise TV programme monitored by The PUNCH.

He said if the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces were indeed in charge, the insecurity situation in the country won’t have degenerated to the present state.

The South-West region has been in the eye of the storm lately over the activities of herdsmen who invade farmlands with their cattle, harass farmers, and in some cases kill them. Some herdsmen have also been accused of kidnapping, rape and other vicious crimes.

Some herdsmen also trespassed on the compound of the respected academic with their cattle despite repeated warnings.

Many Nigerians including the Nobel Laureate had urged the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to address Nigerians and make it known publicly that he does not support the criminal activities of some herdsmen in parts of the country.

But Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said Buhari would be a talkative if he speaks on every matter including the herdsmen crisis.

Commenting on the situation, Soyinka said, “Buhari does not appreciate the situation, he doesn’t understand, I see no evidence that he understands how grave the situation is.

“I have said it again and again. I don’t believe he is in charge because it is not possible in my view for a head of state, a commander-in-chief of the armed forces to say he is presiding over a nation and things get to this level.

“Something is critically wrong within the leadership of this nation and that is where we civilians must come in, we must pick up the slack for our own situation, for our own salvation.

“What happened to me in this incident is typical of what happen to millions in this country and we cannot just sit still and say we are relying on central help when obviously it is not coming.”

The respected academic also cattle breeding was not criminal but the act of trampling on the property of others is criminal.

He also urged the governors of the region to embrace modern ranching which he described as a “commonsensical approach” to ending the menace.

He said, “Cattle breeding itself is not criminal, it is when you encroach on other people’s rights even to the extent of displacing them, humiliating them, dehumanising them, raping the women, and killing them. That is when it becomes a crime against humanity and must be dealt with very firmly.

“But even in dealing with it, we must separate the wheat from the chaff. We all live with Fulani friends, colleagues and we have the responsibility to continue to stress that it is not the entire Fulani are guilty of these crimes.

“The leadership of Miyetti Allah has said again and again that it is 90 per cent responsible for the condition we find ourselves.

“We’ve got to make leaders like that take back their words, apologise to the nation and even be subjected to some form of restitution to the whole nation…That is the only way towards peace.”

Ok Please does amnesty involve exchange of money or only telling them that their sins are forgiven that they should not sin more. What we are seeing in Nigeria is where public fund is used to settle criminals. Even the negotiators partake in the sharing. Why can't we enforce the law so that criminals will do their terms. It is now more honorable to be a criminal. A bandit can never be reformed through negotiation . we will end up increasing their number. If Nigeria cannot guarantee our safety, they should legalise arms carrying.

Crime › US Seeks To Seize $2 Million From Nigerian Man Arrested For Romance Scam by NwaNimo1(op): 10:36pm On Feb 10, 2021
Nigerian man living in Georgia has been arrested and had his first appearance in federal court in Atlanta on charges of laundering the proceeds of romance scams that targeted victims in the Eastern District of North Carolina and throughout the United States.

According to court documents seen by SaharaReporters, Oluwadamilare Kolaogunbule, aka "Dare" opened, maintained, and controlled multiple bank accounts, referred to as "drop accounts" that were used to receive, move, and obscure criminal proceeds, including funds derived from romance scams.

A romance scam refers to a scheme in which scammers create fake profiles on Internet dating sites to identify victims, form fraudulent romantic relationships with them, and then exploit them for profit.

According to the allegations in the indictment, co-defendant Samuel Ugberaese, a/k/a" "Putsammy" a Nigerian national, and his co-conspirators, used romance scam techniques, including false stories and promises, as a means to defraud victims into transferring money on their behalf.

It is alleged that Kolaogunbule conspired with Ugberaese to conduct financial transactions through his bank accounts, including accounts registered to purported Georgia export companies, to conceal and disguise the nature, location, source, ownership, and control of the criminal proceeds.

The indictment seeks a forfeiture money judgment for at least $2,367,520 related to the schemes.

Kolaogunbule is charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and faces a maximum penalty of 240 months in prison if convicted.

"Romance scams are among the most prolific and despicable crimes of the digital age. Con artists outside of our borders stalk Internet dating websites for the sole purpose of taking advantage of individuals looking for companionship" stated United States Attorney Robert J. Higdon, Jr.

"They make false promises of love, but the victims—many of whom are older Americans—find only emotional and financial devastation. The losses associated with these crimes is staggering. According to theFBI'ss Internet Crime Complaint Center, romance scams produce greater reported financial losses than other online crimes.

"In 2019 alone, romance scams generated reported losses over $475 million. To move these criminal proceeds in and out of our financial system, the scammers often rely on domestic money launderers to help them avoid detection and maximise their profits.

"Disrupting these criminal networks and vindicating the rights of victims to see justice, with targeted investigations and prosecutions, will continue to be a top priority for my office.

"It takes a heartless person to prey on lonely, elderly people. Some of these victims were essentially robbed of their life savings so these conspirators could profit."

The FBI and our law enforcement partners are focused on holding offenders accountable who rip off our senior citizens," said Robert R. Wells, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Charlotte.
