Politics › Re: Chibok Family Release Statement On Aborted Meeting With GEJ by NwaNimo1(m): 10:46pm On Jul 16, 2014 |
bokoslayer: Press statement from representatives of parents of Chibok girls/survivors regarding the cancelled meeting between them and president Jonathan yesterday July 15th. Find it below...
We the members of the Kibaku (Chibok) Community and representatives of the 12 fathers and 5 escaped girls who were hosted by Malala during her visit to Nigeria hereby speak on their behalf to offer to Nigerians the facts as they are and to put the records straight and correct the erroneous impression making rounds in the media on the botched meeting with the President: Continue...
#Bringbackourgirls group also released a statement regarding this.
1. The logistics and meeting between the twelve (12) fathers and five (5) girls and Malala was facilitated by the Abuja Chibok Community and the Citizens platform of BringBackOurGirls with our consent and on TRUST considering their sustained and focused advocacy to Bring Back our daughters.
2. These parents and escaped girls did not come to Abuja at the instance of government or its representatives for a meeting with Mr. President but on the full understanding that they were coming to meet with Malala; an advocate of girl child education and most importantly one who has suffered a similar fate as their daughters’.
3. That in the course of the interactions with Malala, NEITHER the parents nor the escaped girls asked for a meeting with the President or any government functionary, rather the narrative back home was to persistently ask why the President has not visited them in Chibok since the abduction.
4. It is obvious that their numbers of 12 fathers and 5 girls is about 2% of the parents of the 219 abducted girls still with their abductors and the 57 girls that escaped. Therefore, these parents DECIDED on their own accord to review the announced visit, which they FIRST heard of like every other person during Malala speech in Hilton.
5. That consequent to their decision to revert to other family members in order to incorporate every stakeholder on the matter as well as avoid discord and suspicion on a change of plans from the original mission to Abuja, they reached out to the Malala team and through them to the Presidency; to request for a new date for an expanded and more representative meeting that has a legitimate mandate to meet with the President.
6. That their request is also in recognition of the huge opportunity of a meeting with the President for the first time and after over 90 days of the tragic abduction of their daughters, and therefore required better consultations, structure and formality as against an instant advocacy request.
7. That it is totally misleading, unjust and without foundation to hold the Citizens’ platform BringBackOurGirls responsible for the decision made by the 12 parents and our community. We therefore take full responsibility for our decision and welcome the formal invitation by the Presidency as a follow up to Malala’s visit which we received this morning.
Thank You.

Press statement from #bringbackourgirls conveners... Response to Malicious Falsehood on Chibok Parents Visit to President Goodluck Jonathan In the last 24hours, the #BringBackOurGirls Abuja family has observed with consternation the escalation of the pattern of the campaign of calumny by Government officials on our Citizens movement advocating for the rescue of the 219 school girls of abducted from Chibok Girls Secondary School, 93 days ago. The latest in this trend is emanating from the visit facilitated for the 11 parents and five escaped girls who were visiting Abuja to interact with girl-child education advocate Malala Yousafzai. During the public speech by Ms. Malala she declared that she had received a promise by President Jonathan to meet with the 11 parents and five girls. The movement was not aware and neither was it part of the discussion of the said visit to our President. However, at the BBOG daily sit out, our movement was informed by the Chairman, Abuja Chibok community of the outcome of a meeting held with officials of the Presidency in Malala’s suite (immediately after her speech). He conveyed that they were informed at that meeting of a the scheduling of the visit to the President for the eleven parents and five girls at 4.00pm on Tuesday 15th July 2014. Although some members of the movement were surprised at the sudden invitation to meet with the President, our leadership concluded that session by emphasizing that it was the absolute right of the Chibok community to decide on the matter. It is instructive to note that majority of those at the Unity Fountain on that day were visiting from the Chibok community and were mostly the ones who vehemently expressed dismay at the information from the Chairman. He then clarified on the manner the invitation was conveyed to him and the parents at that meeting and reassured his community that he would schedule an emergency meeting to discuss the matter further. On Tuesday 15th July 2014, the leadership of our movement were invited to a meeting by the Chibok Chairman and the leadership of their development association with the eleven parents in attendance. At the meeting they conveyed to us their unanimous decision to request for a rescheduling of the Malala facilitated meeting with the President. They further informed us of their intention to reach out to the Malala team and officials of the Presidency to request for an expanded meeting within a sufficient time frame for necessary planning with the rest of their community in Chibok. We want to repeat for the avoidance of doubt that we are not responsbile for the cancellation of the meeting with the President by the 11 Parents and 5 escaped girls from Chibok as been insinuated by some Government officials As a movement, we wish to seize this opportunity to express our gratitude to Malala who helped amplify the advocacy for concerted efforts towards the rescue of our girls. Meanwhile, it is pertinent to firmly state that since the inception of our movement in April 2014, we have remained steadfast and adopted all means and channels of civil engagement in the advocacy of our singular issue, which is #BringBackOurGirls NOW and ALIVE

Politics › Re: I Was Cornered Into Resigning, Ex-adamawa Deputy Governor Say by NwaNimo1(m): 9:55pm On Jul 16, 2014 |
idumuose: Mr. Ngilari rather than address his resignation letter to the governor, addressed it to the Speaker of the Assembly.
The controversy surrounding the resignation of Bala Ngilari as the Adamawa State Deputy Governor continued on Wednesday with the principal character stating that he was cornered into resigning the way he did.
Mr. Ngilari’s resignation was read on the floor of the Adamawa Assembly on Tuesday and accepted by the lawmakers few minutes before the then state governor, Murtala Nyako, was impeached. His resignation has been questioned by Mr. Nyako and other lawyers who argue that since the then governor was still in office then, Mr. Ngilari should have submitted his resignation letter to Mr. Nyako.
On Wednesday, Mr. Ngilari said he was aware of the constitutional provision but was boxed to a corner by the lawmakers.
“The truth is that I have not sent any letter of resignation to the governor up till now,” Mr. Ngilari told journalists on phone late on Tuesday. “The representatives of the House only came to my house yesterday (Monday) asking me to tender my resignation and address the letter to the Speaker of the House which I did”.
He added that “When the lawmakers led by the deputy speaker met and asked me to write the resignation, I wrote it to the governor. But they asked me to change it and address it to the speaker”.
He said he simply acceded to the request of the lawmakers to send his resignation letter to the then Speaker of the Adamawa State Assembly, Umaru Fintiri, who has since been sworn in as acting governor.
Mr. Nyako had on Tuesday called for the reinstatement of his deputy, which would have seen the latter being sworn in as the governor of the state.
Mr. Nyako, who spoke through his spokesperson, in a statement cited Section 306 (5) of the Nigeria constitution, which requires the deputy to send his resignation letter to the sitting Governor.
Mr. Nyako said since he was then still the sitting governor, the resignation letter should have been addressed to him.
“No such was written to him, none was received by him and none was approved by him. It should, therefore, be known that in the eyes of the law, the deputy governor has not resigned. Barrister Bala James Ngillari is still the Deputy Governor of Adamawa state,” Ahmad Sajoh, Director, Press and Public Affairs, Governor’s Office, said in the Tuesday statement.
“This clarification is necessary to avert another subversion of the constitution, since the order processes relating to the impeachment saga have all been in contravention of the constitution and the law. We wish to observe that the continued abuse of the constitution and the law of the land will spell doom for our democracy,” he added.

I know you may care less because it is all about traffic and money for your business but the quality of your creation is nosediving - the same way Google overtook Yahoo while it kept looking for more quantity while sacrificing quality! I say implement a system where a new ID has to accumulate points say 20 points over the course of months before being able to create new topics or comment on certain posts! This way, only serious people will stay on NL and will create the type of quality content that drew people to NL in 2005 - 2007 when it started. How else will seun be able to claim to have 1204600 members? Wake up! |

PAGAN9JA: How many of you are willing to stand up against the draining of our Nation's Wealth by these foreign Religious bodies?
churches collect money from the Nigerian common man to feed to pastors material desires, big manshions, private jets, etc.
Tithe money from churches is sent to foreign western country like the vatican to FIll Their Coffers.
This is the Money of the Nigerian Common Man.
Meanwhile, zakat money is being used to fund terrorist activities abroad, boko haram , al qaeda, etc.
And apart from this all, Our money is being used by these orgainzations to build more religious structures TAX FREE on prime property land; the opportunity cost of which could be used to build schools , hospitals, business outlets, Community Centres, etc.
Taxation of Religious bodies can increase the Government Revenues and make our Government Coffers richer. This money could then be used for development of Nigeria and Standard People's Progressive issues, etc.
Also needed to be abolished is the Pilgrimage subsidy to foreign nations by muslims/christians. Or else even Pagans/Traditionalists must get Pilgrimage subsidies or atleast shrine construction subsidies and atheists must also get some form of Scientific Pilgrimage subsidy to foreign Scientific/Technology Forums, etc. (which will benefit the Nation)
If you are for this petition , copy this onto the reply below " I "username" as a Nigerian Citizen, wish the Nigerian Government elected by me to Tax Religious Bodies in the Nation. "

Politics › Clerics Oppose Proposal For Churches To Pay Taxes by NwaNimo1(op): 6:56pm On Jul 13, 2014 |
CLERICS in the Niger Delta region has called on President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of the Senate to shun recommendations by the National Conference that churches, mosques and other places of worship should pay taxes. The clerics, who spoke under the aegis of the Committee of Concerned Clergies for Peace in the Niger Delta, explained that such a recommendation would amount to asking God to pay taxes to men. National Coordinator of the committee, Pastor Richard Ihunwo, said on Saturday in Port Harcourt that delegates who made the recommendation should be aware that their action could affect the unity of the country. Ihunwo stated that no country in the world would suggest that churches and mosques should pay taxies, advising that places of worship should not be seen as business centres. “We advise Mr.President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, and the leadership of the Senate to shun the recommendation by delegates at the ongoing National Conference on the imposition of taxes on religious houses, churches or mosques etc. “Such act will amount to asking our maker to pay taxes to men. Furthermore, such delegates should know that they are ignorantly presiding over the division of Nigeria,” he said. On the disagreement between the Rivers State Government and National Judicial Council, Ihunwo urged the state government to back off the current legal war due to the abuse of detainees’ rights to fair hearing. He explained that many detainees could not be tried as a result of the indefinite strike embarked upon by the state judiciary workers. Ihunwo warned politicians in the state to remember that Rivers belongs to all and not to them alone, adding that the need to pray for peace and support peacemakers was necessary. He said, “We diligently advise and warn all political power inter-players within Rivers State to remember that the state does not belong to them alone neither are they the only inhabitants of the state.” http://www.punchng.com/news/clerics-oppose-proposal-for-churches-to-pay-taxes-2/? |

Politics › Army Searches For Terrorists Among Recruits by NwaNimo1(op): 11:24am On Jul 13, 2014 |
The Nigerian Army has said everyone that applied to join the force in the latest round of recruitment would be subjected to thorough screenings by psychologists.
It also disclosed that anyone participating in the recruitment might have been previously recommended by traditional rulers, Imams, local community or religious leaders known to them, and subjected to further scrutiny by other professionals in fields that can determine people’s mindset to ascertain the totality of such applicants.
Director, Army Information, Olajide Olaleye, who confirmed this to Sunday Independent, said the exercise, aimed at adding to the current 150,000 men and officers of the Army, would be holistic, to ensure that people with questionable characters and likely members of Boko Haram are not recruited.
He said: “The local Imams, local community and religious leaders and the local government must recommend such a person and we are also involving psychologists, in attempt to assure that the Army is not infiltrated by terrorists and their allies”.
Olaleye’s disclosure may not have been convincing enough to Nigerians, as there are fears that some members of the deadly terrorist group may have actually infiltrated the crowd of those recruited into the Army.
The fears expressed by security experts are hinged on the questionable character of some desperate Nigerian politicians, which they said could undermine strategies aimed at curbing insurgency in the country.
Security consultant, Ben Okezie, who fears that the process could be hijacked by politicians, said, “Whenever there is recruitment, politicians will bring a long list of thugs and those they want to use during elections.
“Is this not what happened in the Niger Delta during the Amnesty programme?” he asked.
Okezie therefore, appealed that a special task force, made up of serving and retired security personnel, who are indigenes of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, be constituted to provide intelligence on Boko Haram, since they are conversant with their states of origin and terrains.
The recent arrest of a Boko Haram implant in the civilian JTF in Borno has also raised apprehension that the sect may be positioning some of its members to participate in the recruitment and actually getting them recruited.
Meanwhile, in South East Nigeria, indigenes are not leaving anything to chance in terms of security.
Churches Imo State, which are now believed to be the prime targets for bombing, especially the Pentecostal ones, have since procured equipments to detect explosive substances, which are being operated by local private security outfits.
This is even as worshippers are now subjected to rigorous search before being allowed into the church on Sundays. Motorists are also prohibited from parking their vehicles adjacent church premises.
With eagle eyes on all public institutions by security agents, carrying of bags at public functions has somewhat become an anathema for fear of possible explosion.
At the imposing state secretariat located on Port Harcourt road, Owerri, civil servants who own vehicles had been issued with identity cards for easy and unlimited entry into the secretariat, while strange faces and visitors have been banned from driving in.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which is adjacent to the secretariat complex, has similarly beefed up security within its premises, while the hospitality industry under the aegis of Hoteliers/Proprietors Association, now screen their guests thoroughly before offering them accommodation.
Heads of primary and post primary schools have equally not been left out in the mission of building impregnable security networks in their schools. Parents and guardians now bear official identity cards issued by the schools management as a prelude to collecting their children and wards after school daily.
Meanwhile, there was pandemonium in Ikeja, capital of Lagos State, on Saturday as rumuors that bomb was planted around Medical Road area of Ikeja filtered in the city.
When Sunday Independent visited the Medical Road area, an unprecedented crowd gathered at Ikeja bus stop under the bridge, while another crowd also gathered in from of Area ‘F’ Police Command, Ikeja, while so many were hurrying out of the area.
As at the time of filling this report, it was not established whether bomb was actually planted anywhere in Ikeja or a mere rumor. Effort to reach the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, on phone for comments proved abortive, as several calls put across to her were not picked.
However, authorities of the Nigeria Police Force has warned that it has gathered intelligence reports, which indicated that terrorists had perfected plots to carry out attacks on the Abuja transport sector.
The attacks, according to the police, were intended to cause panic among Abuja residents and visitors alike.
A statement by the Force Spokesman, Frank Mba, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, noted that “the attacks are planned to be perpetrated through suicide bombings, or through the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) concealed in luggage, bags, cans, and other receptacles.
“The Police High Command, therefore, while ordering FCT Commissioner of Police in particular and other CPs in adjoining states, to beef-up security at major parks around Abuja and its environs, enjoins the general public, particularly those within and outside the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to be roundly vigilant and report any suspicious persons, objects, movements or activities to the Security Forces without delay.”
The Police authorities have however, enjoined citizens not to panic as the security forces are working round the clock to neutralise and effectively deal with the threat.
As part of additional efforts at forestalling the attacks and strengthening security around the transport sector, the Police High Command has advised the management of motor parks to ensure that travellers and workers’ safety were given priority.
“It charges them to constantly conduct regular and routine scanning of their environments, while insisting on carrying out a thorough search on passengers and their bags as well as vehicles entering and leaving their parks.
It also advised that such searches must have the active participation of the passengers involved and warned that any item or luggage unaccompanied by any passenger must be rejected out rightly and should not be allowed into the vehicle.
The police also enjoined passengers to be on the look-out for any passenger, who might come in with luggage, but will attempt to disembark without such luggage.
While operators of motor parks are strongly advised to discourage overnight parking of vehicles at motor parks, particularly by unknown persons, the Police authorities further advised motor park workers to reduce congestion at the parks by disallowing the indiscriminate parking of private cars, tricycles and motorcycles at the precincts of motor parks.
The Police High Command further advised that the general public in other places outside the motor parks should regularly monitor their environments, stressing that, “the terrorists may likely shift attention having known that their plots have been uncovered.” http://dailyindependentnig.com/2014/07/army-searches-terrorists-among-recruits/? |
