You’ have shot yourself in the foot with those words up there. In 1978, under the leadership of late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, the system of open reform was initiated, and since then, generations of Chinese leaders have been firmly committed to the policy, turning China into a vibrant economy so much so that it’s now the second largest economy. The West offshored manufacturing to China for capitalist exploitation - cheap labour. Western companies didn’t set up shops in China because they were benevolent towards China. No! They did it to make huge profits. And that’s why a pair of Nike trainers made in Putian for less than $20 is sold in the West for ten times their production cost. Is it China’s fault that Western companies choose it as one of the top FDI destinations? No! Western corporations in making a kill through their collaboration with China. So this brings me to an interesting question which I hope you’d answer. Considering Nigeria is a democratic state with democratic values (at least on paper); with a closer proximity to the West than China is; and with the largest population in Africa, why didn’t they offshore production to Nigeria like they did to China?
With regards to Nigeria, everyone knows it is a rich country (at least on paper). However the realities on ground are different. The average Nigerian is poor lacking the most basic amenities. We lack good roads, public schools, housing, electricity, critical infrastructures, hospitals etc. Worse is Nigeria does not even refine it’s our crude - something we have in abundance! No be juju be that? China has more functioning refineries that Nigeria! If you have ever been outside of Nigeria to some African countries you’d understand how greedy, rudderless and wicked our leaders are. Nigeria is my country, and I want the best for her. But should that stop me from being honest about the shameful state of Nigeria? No!
PS: Don’t get your knickers twisted; my username is a reflection of who I am. 70th on the list of GDP per capita, that is China. With your "great" Chinese economy, they are still emigrating en-mass to Western countries. Nigerian leaders are trash, China is overrated. The West off-shored production to make larger profits, while also playing an outsized role in building the Chinese economy to what it is today. 2 things can be true. There is a reason USA saw the increasing GDP of China and began trying to encourage return of any industries they can back home. What where the products being manufactured and exported by dear leader Xiaoping policies before the West brought them manufacturing? Their GDP was stagnant as shit prior to that. You are still lying here. I cannot tell if you are just a lair, ignorant or illiterate. I cannot be bothered wasting my time either way. Bye! |

Xiaohei: Zip that pie hole of yours! Una go dey make excuses for the cataclysmic failure called Nigeria! Ordinary refinery our several govt administrations no fit get to function. Qatar is a desert country yet they’re sufficient in food, water etc. Shey you dey mad ni? Since you used the population of Qatar versus that of Nigeria as the reason why the former is wealthier than the latter, then let’s use the same premise to compare Nigeria 240+ million people ) and China ( 1.4+ billion people). Shouldn’t China be poorer than Nigeria considering its huge population? But is this the case? No! China is the second largest economy in the world! Nigeria on the other hand is one of the poorest countries on earth! Guy, make you park joor! This nairaland has some of the world's greatest illiterates. This one even has a Chinese username to back its idiocy. China is built on the back of offshored Western industrial might (factories). Not on its own might alone. There is over a trillion dollars worth of production which the West offshored to China in the past few decades. Where was the Chinese economy before that started? Do you know what that does for an economy? What a quarter of that would have done in Nigeria, if we are doing an apples to apples comparison? Direct jobs, support jobs, tax receipts for the govt, stolen and copied IPs, etc. Please educate yourself before throwing around numbers without any analysis of what those number are built on. Also, how is the Nigerian economy one of the poorest in the world when China is number 2 and Nigeria is about number 31 out of over 150 countries. Are you just lying or uninformed? |

Before you show your ignorance by telling me how Nigeria's population far exceeds Qatar, ask yourself why Port Harcourt isn't like Doha? Okay. First, give Port Harcourt most of the oil money. In short, give all the oil money to the Niger-Delta and let them form their own country. It is from their land, abi? Stupid comment. |

emmaodet: Do you actually think Europeans dissolved these countries along ethnic lines or just to weaken them into smaller fractions countries? A big Yugoslavia is a big headache for US to control than a smaller tiny fractions. Bro, it is all about power tussels and not any regard for the people. The plan was to break Yugoslavia, USSR into pieces so as to lord over everyone. Unfortunately for them, Russia was an unfinished product that has come to hunt and harm them after 30 years of removing 14 countries out of it. Just imagine if Yugoslavia is still around too, US and allies would have been pushed back far better with the Yugoslavia/Russia/China block. Russia has so many ethnic groups too, likewise Chinese. The potential of a country to negotiate better at regional and world level depends on many factors which some are population, landmass to name a few. There is a way the world operates and a smaller country, I don't know if it benefits the masses but at the world scale, is not recognized. Her opinions are swept aside and not taken serious. This is just imaginary nonsense. Yugoslavia could not survive being so ethnically diverse with an overbearing Serb population. I see you have never met a Serb, or just simply read the history of the place. The rest of the nation did not want to live under their boot. The average Serb has an air of entitlement over the relic that was Yugoslavia. None of the other groups see it so fondly. This has little to do with NATO wanting smaller countries there, and more to do with the smaller group wanting different things, freedom for themselves and to align with where they wish. What would have made Yugoslavia a powerful nation? Oga, please carry map. It does not have more people than Ukraine. It's half of that. The population of that relic is closer to that of freaking Romania than Ukraine or Poland. Barely pushing 20 million people. Size and population did not make Ukraine or Poland a power, why would it have made Yugoslavia one. |

Truth is even if you divide Africa nations that a country would comprise of just two families they wouldn't grow... Russia is just as trash as the West toward Africa, and more racist. They are using the instability of African nations to loot, with their Wagner leading the way. China? Over 90% of China is Han Chinese, that is diverse? The minority Uighur are being forcefully indoctrinated and striped of their ethnic and religious qualifiers in other to stop the unrest they caused because the wanted to be on their own. Greyworld: Africa is parasite... still complaining of colonialism after nearly 100 years Who is the parasite but those the siphon Africa's natural resources to Western countries. Force their parasitic economic policies on dull African leaders, some of who they picked. Use their useless organizations like the UN to keep former European corporations together and call them countries. Europe is full of tiny ass countries of the same ethnicity, going their own journeys to self actualization with various levels of success. But Africa is forced to have "countries" that are Frankenstein creations of the West. Because some Europeans sat at a table 100 years ago and divided the place. Europe can recognize that it made no sense for the various ethnic groups of Yugoslavia to be one country. But they will use all tools to keep the diverse people of the Congos cobbled together as unstable countries that they can keep exploiting for resources. And Africa is the parasite? |

It might be nothing, but I would pick them over "ambitious" thieves, cultists, drug peddlers, prostitutes, and human traffickers. Tell me what's ambitious about a mother begging Russian officers to let her daughter endure prostitution for some more time. Tell me what's ambitious about abandoning business opportunities to create a nuisance to the point where the locals start killing you like pests on the streets of South Africa. An ambitious person starts trade and adds value wherever he goes rather than causing monumental spike in crime statistics. Look at what Asians are doing. How many countries have banned Asians so far? But you, like born-criminals, have made even African countries to start blacklisting us.
You can say whatever you want about what "would have happened if...," but the reality is that YOU are the ones trooping into every country that welcomes Nigerians and convincing them to change their views on us. Let's deal with what is on ground first. Asian this, Asian that, Asian that, Asian this. Meanwhile Indians dey run billion-dollar call center phone scams dey tiff money all over. Stealing money from old and struggling Americans, Europeans and Aussies, calling it having a job. I have gotten Chinese speaking scam attempts on my phone several times. Thais dey sell their children to sex slavery. Half the indians in my grad school class here were copying off the other half. Embarrassing stuff. Nuance dey hard you. And the a lot of southern youth are also doing menial jobs. I have lived in the north. There are a lot of young people there doing absolutely nothing for work. Boko Haram did not have to look far to get jobless bodies for the useless terror group. It was not southerners that kidnapped their daughters from school to traffic as wives. Why were Somalis also killed like "pests" on the streets of South Africa? There are Chinese people in Ghana looking for illegal gold to mine. Some getting barred from entering the country. South East Asia is one the most notable human trafficking locations. The Human trafficking a problem in the US has very little to do with Nigerians or Africans, it is Asians, South/central Americans, eastern europeans when it is foreigners. But keep sucking Asian dick. Some people do bleeped up things whether from Nigeria or some poor Asian or Central/South American country. You need to fucking pay attention to the news. This is not a place for me to educate you. While dwelling on the negative, you all want to ignore that most of the positive achievements you see from Nigerians around the world are also from the Southerners? Education, sports, arts, it's southerners everywhere. People will leave shitty countries to find a better life somewhere else. Nigerians are not the first to do this.
