seyibrown: One of our friends beat up his who had been taking Chemo for cancer for 7 months! Her friend took her to the Doctor and the Doctor called the police for her. The husband was detained for a day or so, charged and slapped a restraining order! He breached the restraining order and was in prison for almost 2 months. Guess what he told my husband when he got back from prison? He said he ONLY SLAPPED HER, went to work and the police came to take him to jail and the judge also slapped him a 3 year restraining order. If na so them dey slap 3 year restraining order on top people wey slap other people, half of Britain go dey Jail ke! He 'slap this woman once' so tay police dey take photo of head and neck injuries! He has been telling everyone who cares to listen that his wife his mentally ill and it would be dangerous to have her in the house because she can just call the police when he hasn't done anything!
Abusive men lie to cover up their deeds, and gutless sons will likely cover up their father's shameful acts! Somebody did beat that woman up (even if she added some make up to make it look worse) and it is likely not his first time! If it was his first time, she would not have taken the matter this far! Men do not beat up other men at the slightest irritation! Eni a le mu la n le'di mo! Men who beat up women should not be leading or representing us! I agree with the bold. |
True. But the FG need to hands-off oil receipts, states should tax and generate revenue from the businesss in their state, including oil companies. FG can argue for a tax on income too but it will be minimal
EX: As a Governor, how do you expect me to stop looking to Abuja when Abuja appropriated all my natural resource, my roads, rail, seaport, import-export processes, a lot of my cash cows, power generation and distribution e.t.c. I want to be creative but with the FG practically putting a yoke on my neck with chains attached, it will be difficult.
All taxes should go to the state of source first, then we will send an agreed-to percentage to the FG. Also the FG must sell most of these companies they control, from steel to petrochemical to power generation. Let private concerns manage then while we tax their profits so they can attract investments and jobs to our states.
Even the RMAFC was appointed by the FG so who will they favour?
The all powerful FG is the issue.
I believe in resource control and weaker center too. But I do not see that happening any time soon in Nigeria.
While the agitation for true federalism and resource control continues, many of these state Governors need to be proactive like Fashola and find other sources of income. |

Mcfemad: The speaker evades arrest as his security detail prevents anti-graft officials from taking him Article | June 3, 2011 - 9:40am | By Gbenga Olorunpomi
Tense scenes unfolded today at the official residence of the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja. Agents of Nigeria’s anti-corruption body, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attempted to arrest Dimeji Bankole, the immediate-past occupier of Nigeria’s number 4 office.
Bankole, who had been expected to leave Nigeria for the United Kingdom on a British Airways flight this morning, is facing allegations of corruption and money-laundering stemming from his tenure as Speaker. It was revealed that in the last few weeks of his tenure, Bankole obtained loans amounting to N10 billion, and is also alleged to have funnelled over $1 billion out of the country.
However, the EFCC agents were prevented from entering the premises by plainclothes and uniformed officers attached to the Speaker’s office. A stand-off then ensued as the EFCC agents refused to leave, and a second detachment of EFCC operatives was despatched to the scene.
Inspector-General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, soon arrived on the scene to persuade Bankole to surrender to the EFCC agents, but left the premises abruptly, a few minutes after he arrived. Sources then revealed that while Bankole was still in the country, he was not at the Apo residence but was in hiding somewhere in the capital.
Soon after, it was announced that Bankole had come to an agreement with the EFCC to surrender himself to the agency on Monday.

Bankole's aides battle EFCC
The speaker evades arrest as his security detail prevents anti-graft officials from taking him
Agents of anti-corruption body, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are currently engaged in a stand-off at the official residence of Dimeji Bankole, the out-going Speaker of the House of Representatives who is facing allegations of corruption and money laundering.
Our sources say that a group of officials sent to arrest Bankole could not do so as both the plainclothes and uniformed officers attached to the Speaker’s office prevented the EFCC agents from entering the residence even though Bankole’s tenure officially ended yesterday.
Bankole had planned to travel to the United Kingdom this morning on British Airways 8:45 AM flight and a source indicated to DTN that he may have already slipped out.
Update 1219
EFCC spokesman Femi Babafemi has confirmed that Bankole is resisting arrest and that a second team has been dispatched to assist in the arrest.
Update 1245
A source within the EFCC has confirmed to Daily Times that the former Speaker is not in the residence. However, our source also claimed that he is still in the country, and that the EFCC will do everything that they can to apprehend him.
Update 1253
Police Inspector-General Hafiz Ringim arrived at the residence a few minutes ago, allegedly to plead with Bankole to give himself up. He went inside the house, but left abruptly two minutes later. Interesting! |
