I have read too many threads on Jonathan not qualifying and suitable to be president come 2011.
I am not for or against Jonathan yet and I guess there are many like me.
Instead of spending much effort disqualifying Jonathan, why not present your better candidates and what he/she has to offer
When Jonathan made up his mind to contest, he will tell us his credentials and what he has to offer, or we can ask him via his facebook.
then we can make up our minds on the better candidate to vote for come 2011. |

It even took him 2 years to pass to get to university, I got in fast. It took him 7 years to get a PHD. What? OK guys, leave GEJ alone, here is a better CV. . . Mapomeji aka becomerich for president. Vote for him and all of you will become rich |

honeric01: Who founded Nigeria? the British did, because before they came, every tribes, groups were on their own, but when the British came, they established a governing body that brought all these groups together by putting up a structure (central government) (forced together lol) , this can be likened to the issue here, the binis came to Lagos where there were different groups with no structure, they ended up setting up a central structure (politically) and that was what brought about the EKO we all are talking about now.
Did the British speak any of our languages? nope, though they left theirs with us, likewise the Binis, they didn't speak Yoruba when they came, but they didn't find it fit to teach the people in EKO their language.
It's everywhere, all the places the binis went to, they never found it important teaching the people their language (Big shortcomings). if they had done that, most of the south south and other west African countries would have been speaking bini language by now and you'd be surprised at the extent of the impact the Bini kingdom made.
The Bini empire is not just an empire, it was a VERY strong empire that went about conquering and were feared by their neighbors. Beaf: I don't see why they shouldn't; being the founder of a place does not give one the right to claim ownership. It is funny that in all this back and forth, we have somehow forgotten the existence of the Egun, they were there long before everyone else; the Awori's, Bini's and everybody else. So where do they stand in your concept of the meaning of "founder?" Do you no see how faulty your concept is? I believe that you are taking "founder" to mean people with indigenious rights. Bini people founded Eko, but they have no rights (indigenous or otherwise) over Lagos. It's our history and it shows how mixed we all are and how tribalism is most times the same as slapping oneself. Your concept of founder is faulty. Assuming I accept your concept (which I dont), it then means Eko as it is today was no longer founded by Benin but by Portuguese and the British or lately the FG. Also you still haven't answered my question, what development did Benin brought to Eko to earn them the status of a founder? |

honeric01: How help ourselves here, if i decide to put a block on the ground without digging, measuring and then using cement and gravite to erect the blocks, and someone else comes to do the latter, who are you going to say built the house?
me that place blocks on the ground without proper foundation or the other person that used gravite and cement?
Now, with your definition, can you say the Aworis had any concrete structure on ground that shows that they actually wanted to build a city/town?
Apart from the tents and all that they built around the seashore where they fished, what else did they do? Where actually did you people read that Benin brought to Lagos a superior technology, built brick houses and super structures; they only administered and collected royalty on behalf of Oba of Benin, they later settled down and married among the Yorubas, spoke their language and dwelt among the Yorubas. Beaf: As long as they build a new town where none previously existed, then that is correct. For example, the Aladja, Steel Township was founded by the Federal Govt. Aladja is a Warri suburb http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aladja For the purpose of your argument and your definition of founder, its OK, but whether the Gwaris and the Aldja people agree with you is another. But we Lagosians believe that Yorubas and not Benin found Lagos and we are not descent of Benin. |

We have as a nation aspired for greatness without being inspired to strive thereof. We are reactive rather than proactive. We lose a tournament we never prepared for and shamelessly turn around to probe for a non-existent reason as to why we failed. We bring together our best to draw up a road map to greatness – 2010 - 2020 and that’s just it, a wish list that will not materialize except we dedicate our energies to work, work and work for its actualization. And as long as we produce or allow incompetent and visionless leadership, we can expect nothing but a mediocre nation as an end result. Enlightened leadership is the desire of every progressive nation on earth, why do we beg to be different…? Donald True. |

You are being unfair to the Gwaris and you are attempting to rob them of their ancestral heritage and land ownership claiming FG found Abuja.
So if today the FG comes to Your part of Delta (especially the creek areas), rebuilt, develop, and possibly rename it with a new federal structure leadership, your people cease to have any claim to being the founder - Right? |

mikeansy: Whether IBB means what he says is a totally different debate.
But his proposals of running a lean central government, devolution of powers to State and LGA, encouraging State Policing while refocusing the efforts of the central Government on National Security, Foreign Policy is at the heart of the sort of ideas that can remake Nigeria.
So IBB may be lying or being the maradona we always knew once again. But if you forget all that and look at the policies on their merit, you will see that IBB has very juicy policies. You need to read more of Utomi's manifesto, I watched him debate with Buhari during the last election, he made Buhari look foolish during that debate. for me IBB is completely out of it. |

Igbos dont through out candidates like uzo kalu.he just comes out like many others to help through things off to help him and his elite cronies in the other parts of the country. That happens every where, virtually in all the zones, but what is yet to be seen among the Ndigbo is majority of Ndigbo supporting one candidate as is seen in other regions. When you have 50 - 70% of Ndigbos behind a candidate, then we can say we have a true Ndigbo candidate. |
Politics › Re: Can Lagoon State Really Come Out Of The Ugly Yoke Of Lagos State by OAM4J: 7:41pm On Aug 06, 2010 |
Beaf: There is no doubt that the Awori's built the first settlements in lagos, but a settlement is not a town. You guy's need to place the Awori's and pre-Eko (if thats allowed) times in proper perspective. These were folk who were fleeing from war and were harassed on all sides by slave raiders from Dahomey, Oyo armies, the constant need to dodge Bini armies etc, they had no time for truly permanent settlements. It is also quite clear that Aromire was still in charge of the Awori's at the time the Bini's took over, meaning the Awori's themselves were still very new to the territory.
Because of the chaos and insecurity of those times, it took a power to establish a functioning city, Iga Idunganran was converted from a pepper farm to palace grounds by the Bini.
The closest I can compare the situation of the Awori's with, is the Gwari's being the earliest settlers in Abuja. However, the Gwari's clearly did not build Abuja. What is the debate again? Who found lagos or Who built Lagos? or are they the same? Nobody is contesting all what you stated, the contention is that Binin did not found Lagos, some people came to establish some strictures in a place does not equate to them the status of 'Founder' The fact that the 1st settlers were running away from war does not rob them the status of being the founder. Do you know how many towns and settlement that were found by people running away from wars in those days? The 1st settlers in a place are the founder, not the people that built roads and bridges. So who are the founders of Abuja? Murtala, Obasanjo and Babangida? |

The major challenge of Ndigbo up until now is their inability to speak with one voice and rally round one formidable candidate.
Every time a position is zone to Ndigbo, you'll find 50 or more candidates ready to battle it out.
Also Ndigbo has to present credible candidates with good track records, if you keep throwing up candidates like Orji Uzor Kalu, other zones will have no choice but to look the other way. |

Beaf: Son and grandson are the same in our extended family structure, so there's no discrepancy. Your summary is wrong. The argument is that Bini people founded Eko, not that they first set foot on Lagos Island. Even their own version of history acknowledges that the Aworis were farming and fishing there and had scattered settlements, but it was the Bini's that built Eko and established a rulership structure.
Lagos royalty (especially Oba Akiolu) have repeatedly come out in support of the Bini version of history. If there is a dispute about who Ashipa was, the story his descendants tell should trump all others hands down. So what you want us to believe is that the Yorubas living in Lagos before the Benin expedition came were inconsequential, it was the few people who came from Benin on expedition; who set up rulership structure that found and built Lagos? We can as well move further and claim that the British who came many years after; who set up a more solid rulership, built most of the standing structures; roads, bridges are the founder of Nigeria. |
