Good one! Hope the government can follow it through and these companies will be sold to/handled by the best hands, and not giving to 'friends of the government' as used to be the practice. |
Politics › Re: Who Are Worse: Nigerian Citizens Or The Nigerian Government? by OAM4J: 10:34am On Aug 24, 2010 |
chiogo: I've found that people are more likely to appreciate something that doesn't affect their present state negatively. Yes, I've noticed that Nigerians abroad in general tend to be more patriotic than the ones at home. It's simple: these Nigerians abroad find it easier to appreciate Nigeria because they don't actually live there and see the constant reminder of how horrible things are. You'll see these people yelling, "Naija till I die", etc while comfortable in another place that isn't Nigeria.
Is that really patriotism? Being quick to scream you love Nigeria where as you'd rather study in another man's land? I'll just say it's fake patriotism and people should stop deceiving themselves. True! homerac7: i disagree with d opinion dt d nigerians in diaspora claim patritism only out of comfort. for those of us who r home-based, how do we feel when we visit other smaller african countries? of course we hold our heads high and r quick to let anyone know that we r nigerians, isnt it? but d moment we r back within d borders we start throwing our tantrums which i c as a perfectly normal thing. just d same way an american or chinese will be brazen with u as foreigner but also sulkily regret some ongoing wrongs in her nation when discussion is switched to such matters. let me ask how many of us were not tired of d daily wranglings and bickerings in our own immediate families, but we also r quick to tell outsiders that we r proud of our families. it is only normal to exprress our frustrations and condemnations while we r at home, but when we go out, home is always home.
i dont think that nigerians hate nigeria, at least i have never met one despite having travelled far and wide d country. i only know of disgruntled nigerians. i keep repeating that d true test of national patritism is at d face of common challenge. check out d reaction of nigerians on d thread alleging cameroon plan to claim obudu. also r d reactions when bakassi was ceded and MEND bombing of atlas cove jetty in lagos, nigerians were unanimous in their quick and strong condemnation irrespective of what ethnicity or goe-political zone were involved. dats what i can call patriotism. if nigeria were to live in midst of hostile communities, then probably we would hav seen a more frequent display of 'patritism' show. i dont think it must always be mentioned, it is only enough to display it albeit tacitly in a modicum level.
finally, as per d true topic, my response is ds; is nigerian government made up of aliens? my answer answers yours too.
i bliv in nigerians, dey r just tired and disappointed in d ineffectiv system. Beautiful! Needless say more. |

sjeezy8: Not really a big deal cause I ALREADY KNOW that hes getting no SW votes-
The Only way he can get SW votes is if, HE INVEST ALL HIS BILLIONS ACROSS THE SW(from Ondo to Oyo even kawara and Kogi sef) and he has a yorubaman as his VP.
IF HE DOESNT THEN THERES NO WAY THE SW WILL VOTE FOR HIM. lol he knows there is nothing for him in SW and South south will most likely follow Jonathan, that is why he is romancing with SE |

Onlytruth: These people attacking IBB forget that if not for him, the south west would not have produced the president in 1999. There were other northerners who opposed power shift to the south west. IBB simply muscled the idea through, and we produced TWO Yoruba candidates for presidency. Unprecedented in Nigeria's history.
All truths must be told. I laugh in Suleja IBB did not produce 2 Yoruba candidates for SW or gave the presidency to SW in 1999. Abiola did. Abiola won the election flat and square in 1993, the injustice done to him by IBB paved the way for Yoruba presidency in 1999. |

Nigerian police are not that civilized, they will kill those protestants and disappear (becomes case of unknown killers) and if they are found they simply call it case of 'accidental discharge' |

Aigbofa: I think Nigerians should start fighting back against the police. They are showing themselves to be enemies of the people, not friends!!
Extortion
Extra judicial murders
Assaults.
Intimidation ( they sometimes casually point their guns at you ) while talking to you!!!!
Harassment ( Forceful arrests of innocet people who are just going about their businesses)
I seriuosly think it's about time Nigerians start to demand they be treated like human beings. How can Nigerians fight back? |

GAR3TH: there is no such thing as a free meal. if you want development you need to pay for it. plain and simple Agreed! but the questions in the quoted post below beg for quick answers. I just hope the Government will respond quickly. What the people need is an assurance that they are not being exploited and that the Government is protecting their interest and not that of the construction company. Dis Guy: Babapupa, what happened to the 'alternative' route why is that suddenly being tolled as against the earlier announcement/agreement? How much will they be charging? When is the Take off?
Government is not forthcoming with answers, the Company is not giving answers- this is supposed to be the 'most' enlightened state in the land |
Politics › Re: Muslim Students Paralyse University Of Ibadan by OAM4J: 4:16pm On Aug 19, 2010 |
otokx: There is a word called "moderation" Exactly. The Christian lady was very wrong. There are hundreds and one places she could preach, why inside the mosques? And did she hope to get listening ears to her sermon inside the mosque? or was she there to mock/taunt/condemn the Muslims? In a way she got what she bargained for. A wise person wouldnt have done that. But the Muslims also need to learn the word tolerant, moderation and peace. You cannot tell me Islam is a religion of peace and at every little provocation Muslims are ready for violence. There are better ways of handling issues like this without violence. |
