somehow: Realistically we can win the worldcup. who believe we could have won the Olympic gold in 1994? what does it take to win? a willing, capable and determined team! I admire your Confidence in the Team and his Handlers! |

somehow: Sure we cant change from supporting the SE no matter who he picks but 4 years is too long to toy with this current one. worldcup no be moim moim, worldcup makes old men cry. our current squad look so united and alot expected from them. any silly decision can make or mar the chances of performing wonders.
There is nothing saying we cant win the worldcup. If Greece/Portugal could win the Euro cup against all odds, why not Nigeria? South Korea ended up 3rd some years ago, why can't an African team achieve same or more? It's good to aim higher, to be an Optimist but sometimes I do prefer to be a Realist. Have we got it right?! No! Are we on the right Track...... hopefully! |

Danielnino00: Iwobi as AmF might b a bad idea oo.. he can't hold onto the ball for too long and he is poor defensively. Does he need to hold on to the Ball, or making decisive Passes in the final Third, creating Chances and being a reliable Link between the Attack and the Defence?! As for the bolded....... AMF means Attacking Midfielder! |

Icon79: KPOM! Let's keep pushing the theory. I think that's what gives us the strongest line up, especially if Onazi is going to start on the bench. Another good news is that Alex Iwobi is improving his energy level and he fit well in AM role. This team is definitely coming together at the right time. I have not been this excited about the World Cup since 1994!
O pari If I am to be honest with my preferred midfield Combo - not the Combo that would possibly earn me free Likes and Shares on this Thread........ I will certain go with Mikel as the base - deep-lying Playmaker; Joel Obi Box2Box, and Alex Iwobi as attacking Midfield. |

Icon79: Good post with a couple of caveats:
Has anyone explored the option of Mikel returning back to his old Chelsea role, as a DM destroyer? That would free Ndidi to play the box2box role, and then Iwobi can play in his favorite position - AM. I am making this suggestion based on a few facts: 1. With our style of play - a fast attacking football - Mikel might be a tad too slow to be our offensive linchpin. 2. Our goalkeeping crisis reinforces the need to solidify our defensive end. Mikel can provide a defensive cushion for the back 4 (back 3 whatever). 3. Considering the countries we're up against (Argentina and Croatia in particular), we gonna need a strong defense line to keep them at bay.
On the goalkeeping crisis, I think you guys are mixing up a few things. Rohr did NOT send a personal trainer for Maduka. All he did was to send an assistant to monitor him so they can decide whether Maduka has any potential and deserves an invite.
O pari Honestly I would have suggested Mikel to play as a DM, perhaps deep-lying Playmaker at the Mundial, but I'm scared of being roasted alive....LOL! Ndidi can't thrive as a B2B Midfielder at the moment. His style of Play makes him a Destroyer not an Ochestrator. Joel Obi is simply the best we've got for the Role for now. He's mobile, skillful and decisive. |

somehow: He's got a foreign GK trainer at his club na. psychology is what he needs. ....... but seriously I'm ain't much concerned with the Crisis, cos whoever Rohr picks should be ready to perform convincingly. Nigerian Fans never forgive and forget, I'm only pitying the Rookies and hope they gonna seize the Chance when they get it. Aiyenugba ain't bad for his Club, nor is he battling Psychological Problem while repping Naija Color, but he fumbled in a Match....... Nigerians ain't ready to forgive, forget and give him another Chance. As a Fan, I'm gonna support the Team - regardless to whoever makes the final List, cos I'm a proud Nigerian. I hope they succeed in Russia. |

TheSuperNerd: Yes naa.... a lot can be hidden... How come they never see the list for march games till now? That's just a mild example. Also, there are lots of classified info Governments keep under wraps which media the world over haven't got a sniff of. So a lot can be hidden from the media.
These things can be done discretely without Rohr hinting it at all to anyone sef. That way, we will never get to understand how an Akpeyi that was shaky in recent GWG encounters suddenly became Super goalie with sky high confidence (assuming this pulls through in the first place and it actually works for him). Perhaps at the Eagles' Camp, he can be doing the Sessions with a Psychologist, coz no way it can be blacked out from the Media Awareness. It's ain't gonna work either, and kinda sound awkward and ridiculous in my Opinion. If he needs a Psychologist by all Means, then a Professional should be contracted in South Africa, instead of sending one from Nigeria. |

somehow: Every serious team have psychologists, his problem is not goal keeping, its psychological sir. A Team Psychologist not an individual Kind Sir! Let him be psyched by a foreign GK Trainer. |

TheSuperNerd: Then do it undercover.... Do it unannounced. Simple. Akpeyi needs more psychology sessions than GK sessions. Dude is keeping clean sheets in SA even. I understand your Point, but can anything be hidden from the Media?! I doubt it! |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Oasis007(m): 11:47am On Feb 28, 2018 |
somehow: I was actually expecting Rohr to have sent a personal psychologist to Akpeyi to help him out instead of the decision he took on Maduka. Akpeyi is not bad when it comes to goal keeping but his lack of confidence and shaky shaking in the GWG uniform is his undoing. by now, we should have been hearing Akpeyi having extra sessions (therapy).
Amadu Pinnic should also help the guy out and Nigeria at large EXCEPT IF this is seen as interference on the coach's job/selection. Sorry...... I do not buy the Idea of sending him a Psychologist, coz that ain't gonna help but compound his Problem in GWG Shirt. Do you know what the Papers Headlines will read if it happens that way?! Sending him a Trainer alone gonna be a huge help to him, cos having Rohr Confidence gonna definitely boost his Morale. Bro..... I'm ain't suggesting Alloy Agu here, a foreign Trainer precisely who knows his Onions, cos psyching is part of the Responsibilities of a Professional GK Trainer. |

The Return of Joel is a good and welcome Development. I pray he's injury free and fit enough to be in the starting XI for the Eagles at the Mundial. I wouldn't mind the Trio of Ndidi, Joel and Mikel Combo at all. Ndidi can be the base, shielding the Defense as a No. 6, doing the Tacklings and dirty Jobs. Joel Obi can play efficiently and effectively as Box2Box Midfielder, simply plays as a No. 8, while Mikel plays a free Role as a No. 10. The Truth is; I was never sold on Etebo as an AM. I prefer him to be played as a Box2Box Midfielder than a No. 10. He simply can be a backup for Joel, while Onazi also serves as a backup for Ndidi. However, who possibly can be a backup for Mikel?! Super Eagles should opt for a 3-Man Midfield Combo regardless to the Formation; whether 4 - 3 - 3 or 3 - 5 - 2. Also I prefer Idowu as the first Team LB and Ebuehi as the first Team RB, with Shehu and Aina as Backups respectively - meaning Echiejile is honorably dropped. On the Goalkeeping Crisis. I think Rohr should have sent Trainers to both Akpeyi and Ezenwa instead of the Rookies. Akpeyi ain't a bad Keeper - for his Club he's superb, hence he should be psyched to get the Confidence of replicating Club forms in GWG. |

Oasis007, I will make you a prominent member of my fan club once we can get you off of Daniel Akpeyi's bandwagon. Bros, Daniel Akpeyi is NOT a good goalkeeper. Short and simple! He's a horrible keeper who's a nervous wreck in goal and flaps his crosses at elementary school level.
Again, I stand ready to welcome you into my crew once we can see eye to eye on the above F-A-C-T-S.
