PoliticsRe: Reno Omokri Blasts Adeosun "A Polytechnic Graduate As Finance Minister" by ObadakiM: 6:34pm On Feb 19, 2017
Reno should place his head inbetween his legs in shame,we all know that GEJ govt was a mess.Is GEJ not a degree holder and a University product, why was he not able to tranform Nigeria? Also, attending a Polytechnic never makes one to be inferior, it depends on one's ability to think in-depth neither will a University or a Polytechnic do that for you.
Reno, should be ashamed once more to have criticized a higher institution of learning (he should know that Polytechnic in the UK then was nothing compare to the manner we run Polytechnic in Nigeria).
The school that Adeosun attended was once a Polytechnic ( over 80% of the Universities in the UK were once a Polytechnic ) so condemmning the Polytechnic as an entity shows he is a bad product of his institution, and he is not well exposed. He should also know that no Nigerian Universities can stand any of these former Polytechnics turned Universities.
Finally, the issue with the exchange rate in Nigeria is not fully Adeosun's fault , the governor of the central bank who is a degree holder and a University product has a lion share of the blame. So, Reno shld carry out his research properly before displaying his ignorance in public.

EducationI Need Help With My Direct Entry At Umar Musa Yaradua University, Katsina by ObadakiM(op): 1:16am On Dec 11, 2016
Hello All,
I am a bit worried with my Direct Entry Admission/application at Umar Musa Yaradua University(UMYU), Katsina.

I hold a National Diploma with Lower Credit. My worries now is that the first and second list are out and I wasn't shortlisted despite choosing the University as my first choice and passed the screening exercise and my admission status was changed to successful.(on their website they requested lower for DE).

The suplimentary list (3rd batch) which is the final list is what is left now, and I'm scared. Should I still be hopeful? Is there any UMYU student in the house that can be of help because I can't sleep... Pls helppppp

I need your advice on this

dantanik:
no any uni in nigeria will admit u to 300l, u can only be admitted to 200l
HND Engineering will be admitted into 300level and HND Management/Science will be admitted into 200level. The reason is because, there is a law by NUC that before you earn a degree, U must have spent 3yrs at the University. Engineering is a 5yr course and if u start from 300level u would have spent 3years. Management /Science is a 4year course and if u start frm 200level u would have spent 3years by the time u graduate. So your discipline and grade (not in all cases) determines the point of entry.
Thanks

tobiasbeecher:
Bro, I really don't know when your friend was employed as a lecturer, but judging by his profile I will say it has been for some time. In recent time, NUC has instituted a lot of changes in the university system. These changes affected some lecturers that made some of them be converted into a non-academic staff. For example, before people do lecture with professional master's degree, but NUC outlawed it. Again, they gave a specific timetable for lecturers who have not acquired their PhD to do so or risk losing their jobs. I had a lecturer then who nearly lost his job because he graduated from Alvan IkoKu College of Education degree programme which they were running as an affiliation with a university. They said he did not have a regular BSc degree and that the BSc degree he has acquired was from an affiliation programme. He was suspended for many months but was later readmitted because his godfather was the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics then. What we are saying is that if you're pursuing a lecturing job in a govt owned universities without ''IM'' and with an HND+MSc degree, they won't take you no matter the grade you come out with. Moreover, do you know that the Nigerian govt has outlawed online degrees for employment and promotion in the Nigerian civil service?
My brother you are contradicting yourself.
The topic here is that can a HND holder with Msc lecture in the University I said yes and I provided evidence.
Now there is no law even from NUC(I stand to be corrected only with facts/links/memo) stating that you can lecture if u have HND+Pgd+Msc+PhD, Send me the memo/link and I 'll keep shut.
How many PhD holders do u think we have in Nigeria, very few and that is why NUC&NBTE are encouraging lecturers to go for PhD.
That is why there are rooms for GA, AL so that they can grow.
I still stand on my point, convince me by given me a link where it is stated that HND+pgd+Msc+PhD can't lecture in the University
Thanks

No promotion for him, who knows if he is doing his degree already. Don't get it at wrong my dear
Guy did you say no promotion? Did you know the steps u ll need to climb before being called a lecturer II? When he gets his PhD he 'll be given lecturer l /a reader (associate prof) and gradually he 'll become a prof.
If you want to know if he is doing fine, there is nothing bad if u put a call through to your friends in Uniben, only then can you come on this platform to condem him
Thanks

But you can't go for your Ph.D without a B.Sc. Bachelor degree is very important, and its your first degree ever and not a certificate.

Most jobs demands for a First Degree holder and not a second degree or National Certificate.

Best wishes.
Guy, what is the requirement for PhD? Answer; Msc at merit level or 60% (PhD grade) with this, no University in the world will deny u admission to study for your PhD. Just go for your pgd->Msc->PhD. Don't allowed any body to fool u. The former rector of Auchi Poly had HND from Auchi Poly and her pgd, Msc & Phd from a Nigerian University. So with HND u can lecture in any University in as much as u have your Msc
Thank you,

Please stop misinforming the Op, the minimum requirement to securing a lecturing position in all government owned universities is degree and online degrees is not even recognised by NUC. By citing your friends to buttress your point shows you're not even saying the truth. You're just citing those imaginary friends so that we can believe you.
Young man, I won't come here to misinform both young & old Nigerians. I know what I am saying. There are online degree and online degree. You cant over look an online degree from a university like Universities from UK and UNISA(NUC will never reject it if you present it for Msc).
Also, u shld not conclude if you don't have fact to back your points. I told you I have friends and its a fact. I even went ahead to give u a screenshot of uniben a Fed university, to show that with your HND+pgd+Msc you can lecture. So now who is misinforming who?

Those of you that are saying 'OP' can't lecture with HND+PGD+Msc+PhD, you are all wrong.
this is a screen shot from UNIBen website.
OP you can get to the peak of your career in the field of lecturing if you want to. There is no need to go start all over from point zero.
It's a slap to even dream about that.

I think you don't need to pass through the journey of going back to start all over(but if you have the time & money, U can jump on the train).
For me you can go for your pgd in Mass comm, then go for your Msc after that go for your PhD, but ensure that all your qualifications are in the same field. Also, before you complete your PhD ensure that you have papers you have published. I bet you with your PhD and your publications, Universities 'll beg you to come lecture ("but ensure you know your course as the back of your hand").
I have a friend who pass through this process and he his lecturing in one of the Federal Universities.

However, if you still insist in going to the University, you can try UNISA and complete your degree within a year (online) and it's a recognized degree (I have a friend who used the degree to further his Msc in UNILAG).
Well, with all the ideas given above you have lots of options to pick from. Good luck
EducationRe: Ministry Of Education Denied Harmonising HND And university Degrees by ObadakiM: 10:42am On Aug 06, 2016
Please pardon any typo, it's not easy typing on a smart phone.

Our idea about HND and Bsc in this country is wrong. HND is a technical cadre and there is nothing wrong if they are allowed to get to the peak of their career.

A student needs 120credit load to obtain a degree in Nigeria (that is the standard according to best practice) and anything less than 120credit won't earn you a degree, but do we know that to obtain a HND in Nigeria, a student needs 180credit load, yes you heard me right 180credit (that is why if you send your HND for evaluation abroad it ll be evaluated to a degree, the reason is because you have taken(more than) the standard credit load.e.g USA, Canada etc.

In the UK, if you send your HND for evaluation, you ll get a response that the certificate (nigeria HND) is above British HND but can't be called a degree because the certificate (Nigerian HND)has DIPLOMA written on it. indirectly what does that tells you, it simply means that Nigeria HND is higher than the British HND and a certificate that is above HND in the UK is a degree and that is why most schools in the UK ll accept HND for masters if you follow the addmision process by sending both your ND&HND and not your HND alone (This is the mistake made by most HND holders from Nigeria)

THE LECTURER
In any institution if you have lecturers with masters & phd, then such institution is capable to award a degree(first degree). The reason is because PhD is the highest academic qualification one can obtain. So at that level of first degree if you have PhD holders as lecturers then they are good to go(this is practice abroad and it works for them). Having Prof as a lecturer is good ,but if they aren't available a PhD can fits in. However, for postgraduate programmes a prof is vital.

QUALIFICATION
According to the Sydney accord of 2002, I see no reason why Engineering Technologist should be looked down upon. Poly should be allowed to award special degree.Since no University in Nigeria is running Engineering Technological program, then the polytechnic should be allowed to award degrees like BEngTech , and if they have the manpower they can run "MEngTech and PhD (DEngTech)".I don't see the reason why people that want to become Engineering Technologist will be forced to convert to Engineers by taking either DE or Pgd.Let Nigeria (COREN) sign up to the Sydney accord of 2002 and allow Engineering Technologist to flourish as a profession and not forcing them to convert to Engineers.

LAW
The law that established our Polytechnics did not cover HND, it only covers National Diploma, because when the law was established, Polytechnics were running just ND (OND) and when they started the HND program they failed to review the law. Does it not sound funny when you hear that Polytechnic is to produce MIDDLE level manpower and the Polytechnic is producing HGHER level manpower (HND).You will agree that Higher level is far above middle level .
Therefore, there should be a law that ll establish HND and not the old one that established just for Middle level (Ordinary National Diploma).

SOLUTION
FG must allow for the establishment of the Nigeria Polytechnic commission. This commision ll checkmate the polifiration of sub standard polytechnics just like the NUC &NCEC, and also set standard for the Polytechnics.

Polytechnic graduate should be allowed to get to the peak of their career and not converting them to Engineers, they should be allowed to be trained as Engineering Technologist from start to finish.

If the above can't be met, then time spent to obtain HND should be reduced to 2yrs (OND) and HND should should be scrapped
