For standard visit visa
You made a fatal mistake at the begining. If you earn 187pounds per month, you cant spend more than 3x of your monthly salary. So thats if a red flag.

The other one is returning back to your home country. If you are employed, you should get a 2 weeks leave letter. If you have properties, include the documents or if you have dependents..explain it in letter of support.

I glanced through your writeup, i was npt able to read the last part but i hope you have enough info now.

Edited: avoid stories during your letter of support. Just go straigh to point. Dont put what is not necessary and pla remember that the more you try to explain, the higher the probability of rejection.
So keep it short.
What you need is mpre info.

I earn N1.35m a month.

How can that dependant thing work... Cashmadam earlier said If I care for my parents. How do I demonstrate that?

For the ties back home, I just started buying estate plot on payment plan, I have some documentations with my name, does that work?

It will be difficult for you to get a UK visa. The simple truth is that you are a flight risk and the visa officer knows that. Your partner and child are UK citizens. In their opinion, once you enter UK, you will not want to leave. The best thing is for your partner to start the process of applying for you to enter UK as a partner - not on a visitor visa. Getting a UK visitor visa will be extremely difficult in your circumstances.

This partner visa was in the conversation earlier but to be considered in the future, we decided to try this first since really, I just needed a short visit. Also Given that, I'm not ready to pack my bags and bid Nigeria farewell just yet via the partner or parent visa route. These options are more permanent right ? Last I checked... It's not like I can just go for a month and come back to Nigeria on that visa?

I would have to research more on this...

@obidikejnr na now you come.
Your partner and your daughter are both British citizens.. ah. That is also one of the hidden battles you have to fight otherwise you would keep applying for tourist visa and it would be one thing or the other + refusal.

My advice try Schenghen countries for now to demonstrate your ability to respect immigration controls by travelling and returning. Your partner and child can go there as well. You need to restrategize.
This your reapplication timing of going back now will haunt you.

Say Hidden battles grin

Wetn men go do naw...

Truth is I wouldn't want to spend money travelling elsewhere, being very very tight with my spending. Baba this country tough. The money evaporates with a snap of a finger and it takes 10x the effort of spending it to making it back. No jokes!

My partner had earlier suggested we go elsewhere for the whole birthday thing earlier, she sef UK done tire am. But I thought it's more sensible to spend the money travelling to the UK directly and strengthening my link to where my young family are both citizens. Spending that 3-4m "elsewhere" didn't seem wise, weighing the future opportunity cost. Also taking that route (considering this rejection) will make my UK reapplication time even more longer cause I have to make the money back and more to straighten my financial documentation.

I hope you get where am coming from.

But nonetheless, do you think I should apply for a "Schengen visa" to execute your suggestion? Or target just one of the Schengen countries and just apply for their country visa. Thank you.

Sorry about the refusal.

From this response, I think I can see some of the issues with your application. You quoted a monthly income of ₦1,350,000, but you submitted a bank statement with only ₦6,000,000 in it. Even with your declared investment (₦1,800,000) and savings (£563, which is approximately ₦1,200,000), this brings the total amount of money you have available to approximately ₦9,000,000. But your budget for the trip is 4 million naira, which is almost half of your entire life savings and investment. This can be a big red flag to some ECOs.

I believe the main issue with your application is your current finances do not seem commensurate with the level of income you declared. Earning ₦1,350,000 monthly but having only ₦9,000,000 available implies that you already have a high level of expenditure, which is what I think the ECO was getting at.

With all that said, I believe you can work to reduce the amount you intend to spend on the trip. Since you have accommodation sorted, try to limit your total spend to 3 million, at the maximum. Flight alone will be half of that, but if you are only going for a week, the balance should be enough for feeding, transportation, etc.

Better still, you could wait till you have more money saved up. At your income level, it shouldn't take too long to have something like 12 million plus in the bank. That, alongside a clean account and a reduced budget, will give you a much better chance at getting the visa.

Thanks for your thoughtful response. I appreciate you all. Putting all your suggestions into consideration and subsequently action.

Thank you!.

giselle237:

1. They were inclined to deny your application because the statements you made regarding your finances raised suspicions.
2. The UK authorities do not regard your proposal to spend 4 million naira on a holiday as credible, which has led to increased skepticism about your situation.
3. Your age and the financial figures you provided have further contributed to their doubts.

Moreover, having a company that has been in operation for only three years does not sufficiently demonstrate that you have strong ties to your home country. It is possible for someone in your position to travel to the UK and not return.
4 If you have been earning 1.3 million naira monthly for the past three years, it would be expected that you possess more substantial assets, properties, and investments to serve as evidence of your intent to return.
5. The 1.8 million naira in investments and 500 pounds in savings appear inadequate given the status you described.

6. Furthermore, it seems you lack a travel history, which raises additional questions. If you have significant financial resources, it is puzzling that you have not visited other countries, especially when you want them to believe you have the means to do so.

7. All of these factors cast doubt on your credibility and intentions, which likely contributed to the denial of your application.
8. I understand this may be disappointing, but I previously advised you to wait on this particular application to avoid a refusal.

In the future, considering that the 4 million naira is a substantial amount, I recommend exploring other tourist destinations to begin building a travel history.

As a single individual, it is important to establish a stronger case for your return to Nigeria, as the authorities may not fully accept the job status you portrayed as a guarantee.

Thank you for your prompt response

Referencing the numbers as you answered;

2. Would dropping the duration of my visit, simulatenously reducing the total cost be a better way to fix this? For Example I reduce it to 1 week stay and expenditure of 3m for the trip? As against the 20 days stay I applied for.

3. I don't understand the age part. Could you provide clarity?

4. Now this part is tricky. What would you suggest I do.?

Is 1.3m a considerbly big sum? I mean to live on comfortably In satellite towns in major cities perhaps yes but So much To have investments, assets, properties ?... In Abuja o. Also I didn't start earning 1.3 off the start. The company didn't secure a deal until last year (2023), before then I and my co-founder were surviving from other hustles. So let's just say it's been 1 year. So there's more to that I can't say here however

But that's aside..

What would you suggest I do to fix the ties part though, moving forward putting next 4 - 6 months in consideration. I'd appreciate if you have any

5. I can understand this, given some of funds were hanging in one side hustle that didn't come in before I did my application. Savings should have been 2x that at least.

6. Although not sure the UKVI decision office understand how weak our currency has become... Would you consider this a wise choice financially ? Unless maybe other African countries... Would other African countries suffice? 1.3m now wasn't same a few years ago I could have chest it and covered 2 countries on a budget undecided 1.3m is $800 unfortunately... If I have to build a travel history to countries atleast respectable ones that will reflect on my passport. I may use full 2 months salary just to achieve 1 location grin

Lastly I have travelled to the US and South Africa, however it was more than 10 years ago while I was younger. Not sure it holds any significance at this point. Although I still attached the visas pages during my application.

Genuinely I just wanted to go spend my birthday this month, 20th with my partner (unmarried yet) and our daughter who are both British citizens.

Pls reference 2 & 4 above, what would you suggest?

Many thanks, I appreciate your time.

Sorry about the refusal. My thoughts:

1. Your monthly salary is okay. That does not appear to be the issue
2. Your monthly expenses are high. You didn't indicate your marital status. If you are single, it is high.
3. Your investment of N1.8million is low - considering your monthly salary. Why is it so low? Same thing with your savings...
4. You did not prove your ties to Nigeria. Do you have parents you care for? Are you active in any Church. Mosque? You need to emphasise your ties to Nigeria
5. If you have accomodation, you need about 3M - 4M for a trip to the UK. Do the maths
6. I suggest you address the issues before you reapply.

Hope this helps.

2. Yes I am not married. But I send upkeep money for my baby daughter, averagely 150k every month.

3. This I understand. I still have money hanging somewhere else that didn't come before I made my application. My savings should have been 2x that.

4. My both parents are still alive and kicking, not sure what you meant by cared for. But I send my dad money every month from Same acct. My brother does same for my mom. I'm just a church goer, Not deeper than that. This part of ties is confusing. Should I register for a church group ? I just bought a plot of land and intend to buy more. Would that help, I've overheard it before.

5. I've done the maths ooo. That's why I put 4m. As earlier mentioned, I was thinking they'd take my balance into consideration rather than strictly "what I earn monthly". My Total balance was 6m. Maybe on reapplication id shorten the length of my stay to 1 week. So the cost reduces.

In summary, what I can deduce from your response Best I can do about the financial part is; I'm going to totally stop any inconsistency with my account (due to side hustles) and solely focus on work income and strict withdrawals that reflect declared expenses in that account. While doing other expenses on my other bank accts.

Perhaps I'd declare monthly expenses of 200k next time and monthly earning of +1.5m and total expense for the trip as 3m for a 1 week stay. This should be better?

But this would generally mean me waiting to reapply months down the line right?

Would 3-4 months statement of account suffice for reapplication or I have to provide 6 months ?

Many thanks. Really appreciated

Hello Madam... And every other helpful people In the house. Special greetings.

I don't know why nairaland isn't allowing me post screenshot angry(

Not sure if you Remember me, That was worried about my debits and credits that was not consistent In my account and you advice to use 6 months arrange it. Well, I tried as much as possible to give reasons for the accounts looking overdrawn every month and every other reason I could pull up to ensure that I meet all the requirements. And then, I used strong head, tossed a coin and hoped it lands on head.

Today, I got a rejection email.

This was their reason (I can't attach screenshot I will type it out)

You state that you are employed, earning 1350000.00 NGN (£632.87) each month after tax and have 1800000.00 NGN (£843.83) in investments. You also have £563.00 in savings. I acknowledge the information you have provided in support of your application.

You state that you spend 400000.00 NGN (£187.52) on monthly living cost. You state that you will personally spend 4000000.00 NGN (£1875.20) on your trip to the UK and that no one else will be paying toward your visit. However, I note that your proposed expenditure is more than your monthly disposable income. This degree of expenditure appears disproportionate to your economic circumstances, leading me to doubt your intentions in seeking to visit the UK for the limited period and purpose stated.

Other than your employment, I am mindful that you have not demonstrated any other considerable ties to your country of residence, which would serve as an incentive for you to leave the UK at the end of your proposed visit. This not only undermines the credibility of your application as a whole but causes me to doubt your intention in proposing to travel to the UK.

Given the above, I am therefore not satisfied etc etc etc ... End

In their 1st reason for rejection;

Reason 1;

Are they expecting I'd use the 1.35m average I earn monthly to pay a return ticket and other expenses i would incur in UK? 1.35m is too small to spend on the trip... Hence why their reason isn't making much sense to me, perhaps you have a better understanding of what I did wrong and how I can fix this?

Ideally i would have thought since I've been earning this much, since the beginning of the year, I should have enough balance to cater for the expenses.

But using that 1.35m to judge it is were I'm confused. So if I drop down my expenditures for the trip to the 1.35m or less, self sponsored, won't it look like I'm joking to them? Because it's peanuts and return ticket alone will swallow it much less other expenses. Although I communicated clearly id be staying at my partner's residence so accommodation was settled.

Reason 2;

They said my employment isn't a strong tie back home. My people. I'm a founding director in this company (since 2021 inception), and I head the company with my brother, I've been receiving salary through out the year from the company.

Considering this factors and their reasons for rejection as stated, Please what would you suggest I should do differently if I decide to reapply? Would you recommend I reapply ?

Lastly one of my major fears before applying was that my withdrawals and deposits in my account monthly are equal (so I tried to explain clearly the reason why), I'm surprised it wasn't flagged. Maybe the explanation and supporting documentation helped? I can't say. If I choose to reapply would that also raise concern so I need to rexplain again?

Sorry for the lengthy post!

Thank you all

CC: Cashmadam, giselle237 and everyone! Thank you!

The letter clearly stated the reason why your visa was refused.

The main issue was your income. You planned to use almost half of your yearly income for a 5-day trip. I don't think any rational person will believe that your story.

It's not a rule, but the advice here on nairaland is that visa applicants should make sure that their trip expenses are not more than their 2 to 3 monthly salary.

Another factor is your home ties.

2 or 3 monthly salary? Ah

I put 4m total expenses for a month stay (accomodation is sorted so not included). My monthly is around 1.3m averagely. shocked

Would this be enough?
Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by Obidikejr(m): 1:58am On Aug 27
giselle237:

Do not bother with reapplying . You are not able to sponsor yourself. Your fiancée- female who is resident in another country, not UK, needs to sponsor the trip. Your account has unverified large deposits etc 4 million naira deposit in 3 months and your supposed salary is 350k with monthly expenses of 150k… so technically 200k disposable income… . The rest was explained in the refusal letter expressly.

Save your money, your fiance’s money and your strength. You will not get a UK transit visa at this time. They will not take that risk as 4 hours layover is enough for you to get to the UK border and seek entry based on asylum etc as a lot of people get to the border, tear or hide their travel documents and next thing declare that they are running away from persecution, next thing they get into camp and sneak away from there or get into the country and start enjoying benefits until their case is decided.

For your monthly spend, calculate all your expenses over 6 months and divide by 6 to get an average. Do the same thing for the inflow you get for your business.

Hello Cashmadam, ideally for example I have a personal expense in 6 figures a month e.g 200,000.

For them to verify if I'm saying the truth, Pls do you think they'd try to determine my expense based on the debits on my account? Because my bank debits on monthly bases range in 7 figures. E.g 1,500,000 because I do other things with the money in the acct e.g invest it to something else (not personal spending or expense)

They also forget that the security forces they are relying on also have families at home facing the hardship, when it gets hotter the security forces too will join the protest and there won't be anywhere for them to hide.

They forget that even if they decide to run away to seek shelter anywhere in the world, they shouldn't forget that Nigerians are one of the most traveled citizens across the globe, they will be fished out and punished for the crime they committed in Nigeria.

Thank you alot Cashmadam... May your cash be long. Amen.

The way you explained this money in the account scenario might be a problem. I hope not.

Just to add more info; I am also into automobile business. And honestly why money doesn't sit in my account is because I use it to purchase vehicles for sale.

Can I let them know of my car business, and that the money that will be deposited into the account is money what was realized after vehicles was sold. (Which is infact true) The money I intend to leave in the acct will be from after a sale is made.

So basically this is how it is;

1. I get paid from the company I am a director in, which is my primary source of income.

2. I use the salary for my side hustle (automobile) which after sales, is redeposited into my account.

So I have 2 sources of income.

Final note: My purpose of visit is to see my baby daughter and her mom, they are both British citizens. I don't know if this information is any help in this particular case lol.

Thank you.
