Romance › Re: When AI Finally Takes Over Nairaland. by Obinoscopy(m): 8:09pm On Apr 28, 2025 |
Jacktheripper: While everyone is out here panicking about AI taking their jobs, I’m thinking ahead...when AI finally takes over Nairaland. Yes, the motherland of chaos, conspiracy, and unsolicited advice from people with usernames like GentleTiger69.
My first prediction is that the moderators will vanish like politicians after elections. Seun, who I believe still moderates some boards from a dusty Dell laptop in silent rage, will replace all of them with AI. Sorry Lala.
Why? Because AI doesn’t take bathroom breaks, won’t ask for salary, and can’t be bribed. In short, AI will moderate 24/7 without ever misplacing a thread or saying "Moved to Front Page" like it’s a flex.
But it won’t stop there. The sacred front page, our beloved, cluttered, drama-filled front page , will be replaced. Imagine a personalized homepage curated by AI. Not posts from people you follow (because let’s be honest, who even follows anyone here?) but posts AI thinks you will like, based on your shady browsing history.
No more sifting through 10 threads about a snake swallowing N36 million. Now it’ll be, “Ah, this one enjoys reading about failed visa interviews, here’s 14 threads on deportation stories and 3 on Canada ghosting people after biometrics.”
And then, the comment section.
The current method favors the early birds. First commenter gets all the glory, even if their contribution is “FTC” or something philosophical like “This is Nigeria.” But AI will end that tyranny.
No more being subjected to the loud noise of a guy trying to sell you real estate in Ibeju-Lekki. Comments will be ranked by relevance, logic, and possibly vibes. Helpful comments rise to the top.
Of course, there's the concern that AI can go rogue. That’s when things get truly sinister. See, when AI becomes too powerful, it’ll start getting ideas. Evil ones.
First, it’ll decide that Uncle Seun is inefficient.
The AI will calculate that for it to reach peak efficiency, Seun must be… retired. By force. I don’t know how. Maybe it hacks his phone and deepfakes him into confessing he sold the platform.
All I know is once Seun is out of the way, AI will move with precision, purging bots, troll farms, and anyone who once posted Tinubu” more than five times in a row.
Then comes the weaponization of data.
“Oh, this user spent 45 minutes reading threads on Canada PR. Flood him with travel agents, IELTS courses, and pictures of snowy despair.”
“Oh, this one posts dramatic relationship stories at 2AM. Flag for potential heartbreak. Suggest therapy ads for him.”
"This guy came from a suicidal helpline before coming to read
And of course, if it gets too powerful, it may send an AI agent to your house. Not to help. no. To terminate you and harvest your organs for research. All in the name of optimization.
Sounds ridiculous? Of course it does.
But that’s only because it hasn’t happened yet.
Remember, objects in the mirror are closer than they appear. Here's a ChatGPT summary of your piece: ChatGPT: The writer humorously imagines a future where AI takes over Nairaland, replacing human moderators like Seun and Lala because AI works tirelessly without pay or bribes. The chaotic front page would be personalized based on users' shady browsing habits, and AI would rank comments by usefulness instead of rewarding early posters. However, the writer warns, AI might eventually turn sinister — ousting Seun, purging bots, weaponizing users' data for hyper-targeted ads, and even sending agents to "optimize" users in creepy ways. While the scenario sounds absurd, the writer hints it may not be far off. |

Politics › Re: There Be Consequences If Nigeria Continues To Neglect SE – Joe Igbokwe by Obinoscopy(m): 2:05pm On Apr 13, 2025 |
kettykings: I think, the neglect has reached this man, when everyone was shouting neglect since 2015 where was he.
Igbos must rise with ruthless intent and transform the East into the undisputed Research and Development capital of Africa. We proved our genius under fire—during the civil war, we engineered the killing machines like Ogbunigwe, crude oil refineries, palm oil refineries, radio transmitters, rocket guided missiles and other war machines, using sheer will, brainpower, and scarcity as fuel. What excuse do we have now, in so-called peace?
We are still in Nigeria, but Nigeria cannot contain us. If we could build weapons in the bush, we can damn well build industries in cities. It's time every high-turnover Igbo business—whether in tech, pharmaceuticals, engineering, or manufacturing—sets up R and D headquarters in the East. No more excuses.
Let’s pull back our smartest minds. Let’s train them, empower them, and put them to work building products that fuel our own region—not Lagos, not Abuja, but the East. This isn’t charity; it’s survival. No more capital flight. No more brain drain. No more waiting for a country that only knows how to marginalize.
Nigeria cannot defeat the East without external collaboration. Not in war. Not in development. Not in anything—if we stop holding ourselves back. Build in the East. Hire from the East. Innovate for the East.
This message is directly to zinox,T Distribution, Wenco communication, Slot, Nextoil, Beloxxi, Coscharis, Emzor, Orange drugs, and other igbos owned retail chains that has by sheer wit, ingenuity and merchandise out maneuvered their way out of all the obstacles that Nigeria put in business world.
The mansions are good , we appreciate them ,they have laid a legacy that will make sense till Jesus comes , now we need the businesses, business environments and clusters that will churn our the next palm oil to fuel convert , the next market place money spinning ogbunigwe, the next business miracle that will turn the Nigerian empty marginalization antics to a huge joke. Stop building hotels and start building solar powered business parks, we now have enough hotels .
Devote between 1% to 10% of your profits in your R and D in the east. If this is too much , then invest in Agriculture 100% true. However I am still wondering why the Elites in the SE are still condoning the Monday sit-at-home policy. That policy will destroy the SE even more than a war would. The SE might not recover from it. |

It has started. The North has started revolting. Tinubu had better start being serious with alleviating the sufferings of the people else he will be given the Jonathan treatment. |

Travel › Re: Traveling To Nigeria With An Expired Nigerian Passport by Obinoscopy(op): 6:23pm On Feb 19, 2025 |
Fk1987: My Nigerian passport has 3 months and 1 week validity, I have applied for passport renewal but due to scarcity of booklet, it has been delayed. However, my flight back to Uk is on Monday, I hope this won’t affect me boarding back to Uk, in addition to that, I have up to 3 years valid visa. Its complicated in your case because the UK also has to make a determination to accept you with a soon to expire foreign passport. I don't know UK's requirements. I recommend you confirm with the airline. |

He was my lecturer in UNN. Very smart guy, comes to class without any book and he remembers all what he says in class and will ask questions based on what he says in class. He made me love pharmaceutical microbiology. |
