I've been seeing some very high prices here and it made me take it out of my order of things. For this 2.5 KVA 24v hybrid system, do I still need my old MPPT charge controller or it's inbuilt into the inverter? Thanks.

please use your old charge controller and leave out the in-bult charge controller

Good evening

Please I have this kind of configuration setup in my apartment

5kva 24v Inveter
400Watts Solar panels (5)
220ah battery (2)
60amps charger

My question is whenever I try charging with Nepa light o shows it fully charged within few minutes but when itโ€™s on resting stage meaning when it not connect to any form of charge and I check the battery I get 77% even while on solar it shows it fully charged but at the end of the day I see 75% please how can I get it charged to 100% or should I just ignore the fact that it say fully charged and continue charging please any help would be appreciated. Thank you ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

please answer this questions

1. what is the battery voltage when is shows 100%
2. what is the Voc of your Charge controller.
3. how was the panels connected, in series, parallel or mixed.
4. what is the panel Voc.

You are using a good Batteriy chemistry that allows charging up to 0.5C continuously.
60A on a 173AH batteries is 60/173C that is 0.35C.. So you are fine.

Also note, since the charge controller is limited to 60A If you have inverte powered on, most people tend to use their Fridge during peak periods, so, in essence, your 60A is reduced to about 40A (or less depending on load), left to charge the batteries, so Not all 60A will charge the batteries except you always shut down inverter to charge which may not be the case.

Expect the MPPT charge controller is bad it will always limit the current to what is required to charge the batteries when you turn the inverter off.

Happy Sunday all.
Pls can I connect 2 550w panel in parallel to a 12v 173ah system with a 60a PowMr cc. Hope it will not fry the cc?
What exactly will happen
Rain is fast approaching and I don't want to survive like last year.
Please I need this information,
the VOC for the charge controller,
the PV operating voltage for the charge controller,
the Vmp for the panels and
the Imp for the panels.

So sending 60amps into a flooded battery before it reaches near full stage is good for the battery??

you will likely damage the battery.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by obitobe: 3:54pm On Apr 13
Drgreatone:

Being curious to know.. while using a 60amp CC with flooded batteries, does it send the whole 60amps into ur batteries while charging? If yes, wont that quickly damage the battery as a result of the high current?

it will never send the whole 60a to the battery, the MPPT charge controller is built to be intelligent to only send what the battery needs for charging, while the others are used to power other loads connected to the inverter. If no load on the inverter it will only send what the battery requires to charge it.

VOC isn't much of an issue, as you can get past that with smart wiring.

SRNE's 3KVA hybrid for example, is capped at 1440W.

The popular Powmr 60A MPPT CC is capped at 1400W, even. How do people go about it?

So you can over panel your system but ensure your connection does not exceed the specified VOC and Rated Amp for the charge controller. I have a 3600w pannel connection on a 60A, 145v Charge controller and my system is a 24v. what i simply did was to respect the charge controller specification and i have been running it for a year now without issues. The only thing is that the charge controller will limit the wattage been generated to the CC specified cap wattage and waste the others inform of heat.

that is the behaviour of Tubular batteries and most lead acid batteries, it is call voltage sagging. you can read up on it. once you turn off everything, it will return back to its intiate voltage or 5 bars in your case.

amicdan:
Hi House.
My charge controller drops from 5 bar ( 13.6 volts ) to 3bar ( 12.4 volts ) after full charge on a load of 150 watts within 2 minutes.

What could be the issue ? Setup was done a week ago.

Note had to charge with external intelligent 20amps charger to full bar.

This is my set up :
1. 2 x 335 watt GCL panel in series
2. 60 amp PWM Charge controller
3. 220amps Caesar tubular Battery
4. 1KVA MSW Inverter

The main issue is the battery dropping from 5 bar to 3 bar on the charge controller with 2 minutes once load is applied on the the battery.
Science/Technology / Re: Guys Using Solar Energy Instead Of Nepa Or Gen. by obitobe: 5:05pm On Feb 18
so guys my set up is as follows

-3.5kva 24 v yohako hybrid inverter
-4 (220AH) batteries
-12 (300W) solar panels
-60A felicity charge controller

I have been partially off-grid, i only get 24 hrs light from Nepa in a week and the rest has been on the solar grid. During the day with everything on, the inveter fridge, inverter deep freezer, the ceiling fans, the standing fans, the washing machine, TVs. With everything on during the day i draw 400w-700w but when the evening come, the max i draw is 200w and then at night time( bed time) i draw 90w-100w till the morning when the sun comes out.

i must say this journey has been a wonderful one for me. I hardly on generator only when they want to grind in the evenings and that will be for like 20mins.

Please I need review on this inverter.

please run from this Ipowerx max.

the problem with it is that, it takes up to 30min-1hr before it start charging via mains supply. it is too sensitive and not rugged.
in my case within 24hrs of purchase it started showing code 09. Mosef don blow. please avoid it. go for other type of Ipower than this one.

The inverter has been bought and installed, the question is can it do remote monitoring.

I apologise, if the science statement rubbed off you the wrong way. I come from all 3 backgrounds. I merely believe your readers come from all walks of life. This thread began as a way to be a compendium/resource for all things to support the FTA rave of the time. Along the way, it became about all things renewable energy and the FTA aspect was relegated to the background.

I'll simply state what I had in mind. Peukert's law. You were talking about power equivalents thus a comparison of 12V 400AH vs 24V 200AH vs 48V 100AH is apt, being the same stored energy quantity. I1V1 = I2V2 = I3V3. It means one could draw the same amount of energy at lower current, if you raise the nominal voltage. In practical applications, the amount of power each is capable of delivering differs, as energy drawn varies due to discharge inefficiencies (mostly as a result of the internal resistance of the batteries vis a vis a resultant heating too). As a result, higher voltage systems would often perform more efficiently, as the amount of energy drawn increases. In practice, the upper limit of continuous discharge in a 12V system is about 6kW, beyond which you stand a real risk of melting the battery terminals or creating weird fluxes in the electrolyte (if FLA). Most conventional chargers don't exceed 120A thus limiting charge to an 1.8kW max anyway.

The resistance of the cabling matters just as much. This is why cable diameter and transmission distance matter! Multi-stranded chosen as superior to single strand.

My intention was not to waste anyone's time.

Bros the upper limit for a 12v system is 2KW beyond this is bad, while that of 24 is 4KW and that of 48v is 8KW.

Pls which would be more efficient charge wise? 4 150watts paired to a pwm or 2 300watss paired to a mppt charge controller for a 12v 200ah battery?

i would want to say the PWM controller but go for the MPPT charge control for the sake of future upgrade and efficiency, you wouldn't miss it.

Please is it normal for a 24v tubular batteries that is 100% when there is sunlight or public utility but modestly after sunlight or public utility goes off, the power reduced to 85 or 75% , it will now depend on the loads before it will start to ho down.

Tubular batteries does what they call voltage sagging. It goes to fully charged at 27.1~ 27.5v floatation. After the sun goes out it start dropping to 25.3v (still fully charged) stays there for a while and when you put load on it, it further drops to 24.8v. it can say on 24.8v for hours depending on the load before it continues its voltage drop. So for a firm response what is your voltage at 75 or 85%?

try to reduce your charging current. Check ur present charging current

I don't think you can change the charging current, what he needs to do it tune the generator up a bit for it to be able to charge.

I don't know much about the hybrid, the only thing I know is that it's not a MPPT charge controller but a PWM.
I use the 2.5kva non hybrid and I must say it is very rugged and durable.

Hello house, I need advice on this setup.

I have a 5kva 48v Felicity hybrid inverter.
8 X 300W Solar panel.
4 X 12v 220ah battery.

According to the inverter specs, the PV input voltage range is 90V - 550V. While the Maximum input current is 15A.

My question is this, in what arrangements should the solar panels be ? All in series, or 4 series and 2 parallel? Or 2 series and 4 parallel?

Also, whoever has used Felicity hybrid inverters, please confirm what type of in-built charge controllers they have ?

Thank.

You are better off having it in series cause of the PV input voltage range. Also the charge controller is a MPPT type.

Obnoxious2001:

Why can't i go less.
Probably 3s2p

You can do 3S2P but why will you do that when your inverter voc is at 450vdc. The only disadvantage i see here is that if you do series once their is a shadow cast on one of the panel it will affect the rest but for your 3S2P it wouldn't affect it that much. Advantage of the series over your combination is that early morning and late evening your panel will work efficiently still compared to your combination.

Will it be possible for me to adjust the charging current and low cut off voltage on a hybrid inverter?. with my inverter i cannot adjust anything. what that is even more annoying is that with main the charging current is 15.2A max and the low cut off voltage is 21.6v for the battery.

Dam5reey:

Hybrid are more efficient if you are using Grid and Solar to charge. It save your electricity bills if you are metered.
It will do the same job as a separate Controller.

Recommended charging current is like 20A for these set up. Which I believe your 2.7kwp is capable of.

Considering you have flooded battery.. only way to increase speed is increase the charging current.. you may have to top the water from time to time.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by obitobe: 8:32pm On Oct 08, 2023
My setup,
-2.7kwp of panel
-solar Charge controller 60A (external)
-2.5KVA transformer inverter (Afripower)
- 4 flood lead acid batteries( 12v, 220AH)

Dam5reey:

What's your definition of Non hybrid and Hybrid... ? Non hybrid- without internal Solar Charge controller, Hybrid- with Internal Solar Charge controller.

What's your current setup, how do you charge..

My own definition of Hybrid is that it has.
Solar Charge Controller inbuilt. In addition to the AC charger..
In essence the charging Algorithm is the same.

1. about Speed charging.. this depends on many factors.
What determines the speed is the current you are charging with.

Provide more details for further clarification

I need to ask, I plan on upgrading my inverter from a non-hybrid 2.5KVA to either a 3.0 or 3.6KVA hybrid inverter, but my questions are apart from taking additional loads,

1. does a hybrid inverter help to speed charging time for a flood lead acid battery for this range of capacity.

2. for those using hybrid inverter with flood lead acid battery, what is your experience like.

Please I need your expertise here.

I will be waiting for feedbacks.

Someone that can afford 2,700w panels shouldn't have any problem buying the right size of charge controller except the system is a gift
