Politics › Re: Skye Bank Blocks Patience Jonathan From Accessing Her Unfrozen Account by Oblang(m): 4:19pm On Apr 11, 2017 |
Lakeland4321: Most of the comments here have their merits and demerits. It is a fact that thousands of present and former government officials have looted this country since independence and very few (less than 1%) of them have been brought to book.
This singular action of not being able to jail corrupt officials over the decades has largely led to the present value system we have in the country today. If you loot and can escape justice, many more people would strive to occupy those position knowing that when you loot you will almost always escape justice.
Now to the main matter at hand. PMB campaigned and is now claiming to fight corruption. This is a very good thing considering how successive govts just couldn't stomach enough political will as well as a genuine overhauling of the criminal justice system in order to achieve genuine fight against corruption. On paper PMB seems to be fighting corruption at least in some cases but when he looks the other way in some other very glaring cases he brings 'hypocrisy' into the entire campaign which is very unfortunate. This the reason why most youths from the SS and SE tend to defend their own because PMB and indeed most northern leaders hardly ever descend hard on looters from from the north but are quick to chase looters from the south. It's more annoying to theses youths that all looters got their loot directly or indirectly from the resources from the NIger Delta. Looters are looter and there is no reason to defend a looter but PMB should also beam his corrupt fight searchlight on the very many northern present and past govt officials who are/were fantastically corrupt. Dasuki who has bin in jail for corruption allegation since is from where? |

ndcide: The constitution empowers the Senate to summon anyone in Nigeria and give a warrant of arrest. including the president. Sagay did not know the section he quoted. That slowpoke only quoted section 89. Study section 88 with 89 88. (b) the conduct of affairs of any person, authority, ministry or government department charged, or intended to be charged, with the duty of or responsibility for -
(i) executing or administering laws enacted by National Assembly, and
(ii) disbursing or administering moneys appropriated or to be appropriated by the National Assembly.

(b) expose corruption, inefficiency or waste in the execution or administration of laws within its legislative competence and in the disbursement or administration of funds appropriated by it.
89. (1) For the purposes of any investigation under section 88 of this Constitutional and subject to the provisions thereof, the Senate or the House of Representatives or a committee appointed in accordance with section 62 of this Constitution shall have power to -

Politics › Re: You Have No Power To Summon Me, Sagay Tells Senate by Oblang(m): 10:16pm On Mar 29, 2017 |
Billyonaire: This is an interesting time in Nigeria's democracy. What becomes of Nigeria, is solely dependent on the actions and in-actions of Nigeria's modern day Dictator, who I believed has fueled the amber of discord against the Legislative Arm of Government within his core Northern caucus aka cabal and the goings-on in their nocturnal meetings.
Is there any Nigerian by virtue of his position relative to his appointment by any of our Presidents, who has the effrontery to call The Senate, Childish and other derogatory names ?
I do not bother about the characters in the Senate, what bothers me is that each of those Senators, no matter how questionable their elections were, represent a people of each Constituency in this country. When one has so much confidence and power, because they 'know' this Buhari of a guy, and gather so much confidence to defy the orders of the Senate and even castigate that Upper Chamber, it makes me ponder if we are truly a democracy.
I think, we all need to put our bias aside and view this on a national periscope devoid of coloration of ethnicity, party-lines and religion.
We are bleeped, if we dont fix this growing impasse. Truth is, APC is gradually destroying our democratic institutions. No country has ever fought corruption successfully by personalizing democratic institutions.
We must learn to respect the Senate President and other Senators, not because of their personalities, but because of the Position they occupy.
We all know that Dino is more educated than Buhari, we also know that Bukola is more educated than Buhari, so there is a limit to what Buhari can achieve with his personal aggrandizement. Buhari has to be taught, to call his caucus to order. If their intention is to build Nigeria, then all Nigerians, including their personal enemies must be involved in nation building.
If this does not happen, I will personal step into the turf come 2019, and life will never be the same again. See this mugu o. U want ppl to respect the position of the senate president but u re quick to disrespect that of the president of the country....u ve succeeded in writing absolute trash... |

cstr151: We are saying the same, mr man. Your tinubu's clout is restricted to the south west. He has zero influence in the SS, SE and the north if we are to be honest. He has the entire south-west in his pockets and that means yoruba mass vote for any northern consensus candidate who manages to bring tinubu onboard. That is the only reason why he is tolerated by the north. His ability to whip south-western votes enmass plays into maintaining northern control of the polity. Ofcourse they would throw him a bone or two to keep him just satisfied. If we can get an igbo leader that controls the SE like ojukwu and azikiwe did, your tinubu would become irrelevant very quickly or atleast not as important as he pretends to be. And that is what okorocha wants to do Would u say buhari was voted for enmass in the sw in 2015? |
