Foreign Affairs / Re: Did King Charles Ignore A Handshake From A Black Man In Viral Video? by occam(m): 2:08pm On Sep 20, 2022
Reference:
America fought a brutal war with Britain between 1775 and 1783 that secured her independence and ended the First British Empire.
Since then America has developed itself to the point that today their President is given special privileges.

Much of Africa meanwhile negotiated its independence in and around the 1960's and ended the second British Empire in the process but has seen a steady decline ever since till the point they have assumed the position of third world nations whose leaders ride the bus.

Instead of introspection, her citizens are still punching at shadows.
In a world where everyone was practically conquered by the British at one time or the other from Asia to the Americas, from the Arctic to the Antarctic, in a world that is all but english speaking, with english customs and traditions dominating, it is only Africa that still cannot surmount this fact of history. Every other continent has moved on and are all bigger and better than the British today except Africa.

The endless whining and groaning and sighing is the clear sign where the problem is.... in the African head, the African mentality that has lent itself to excuses for failure and the inability to take responsibility for becoming great in itself.

I have said it time and again.
Britain did not become Great by excuses. They were overrun by the famous Roman General and Emperor Julius Caesar. Before then the Kelts, Vikings, even the French all at one time in antiquity conquered Britain and enslaved its people. They too fought to become what they are today. I do not see any Briton today hate on these people, the sons and daughters of their former foes for things done in generations past.

WHEN WILL AFRICA LET GO AND BEGIN TO RE CREATE ITSELF TO BECOME GREAT.
Every day of excuses will never move us forward as a national continent of blacks. FACT.

May I also add that India achieved independence just 13 yrs (1947) before Nigeria. Today the second richest man is an Indian, Adani ($143b) and Indians remain competitive in tech sector. In fact the British colonialists plundered more from India than Nigeria. Yet their economy is set to surpass Britain in 10 yrs

Colonialism or the white man is not our problem. It’s our elites, leaders and most of our people. Who cares if King Charles is a racist or not? So if Charles loves black people it will reduce poverty levels in our country? Black man think!

Politics / Re: 2023: Poll Shows Peter Obi Leads Tinubu, Atiku, Kwankwaso by occam(m): 3:52pm On Sep 15, 2022
Even if we accept this unscientific poll, the numbers still indicate tepid support for Obi

His numbers are highly skewed by the 68% from SE (the region with lowest voters). On the other hand he scored very poorly (less than 12%) in voter rich regions of NW, NE & SW. He has No support in regions that will decide elections.

Whoever posted this as a “win” for Obi lacks understanding of basic arithmetic. Winning an election is getting high next numbers in voter rich regions

She’s writing from the comfort of her American home, sharing her thoughts through western technology (Twitter) and throwing tantrums on the corpse of a British queen. And Remember it was the British that migrated to the Americas to form modern day USA. Yet this lady doesn’t see the irony of earning her living in an anglo Saxon society and belly aching about the Queen. The closest friends to the Brits and the monarchy is the USA. What’s the difference between Britain & USA (where she comfortably lives)? Nothing

None of them will vote in the elections. Why? They’re Not registered and will not come home to vote. This is a fact. Obi knows this and he’s just there to raise campaign funds. Obidients are just using social media to sucking in gullible disaporans. Telling them Obi’s victory is a slam dunk. And once he wins they can come back home. Illogical, emotional claptrap.

Some diasporans have even promised to raise $150million for Obi campaign. Are you kidding me?

Dude, stop being so small-minded. You should be left to wallow in your mischief. No amount of elucidations would suffice for your comprehension. People like you think “diasporans” are only good for sending things that grow on trees back home. There’s what you call strategic marketing for increased brand visibility globally and campaign fund inflow.

He's goal is to solicit some campaign funds from Diasporans. Simple. Majority of Nigerians abroad will not participate nor vote in the election. The real campaign is with grassroots in Nigeria. Talking to and interacting with rural people, the jobless urbanites and masses is where you'll get REAL insight into the problems of this country.

Many disaporans, not all, have a disposition to exaggerate the issues and negative things happening back home. Phrases like "failed state", "Nigeria will collapse" permeates the diasporan social media discussions. The conferences Obi will attend in USA, Canada, Germany are organized by resident Igbo associations in those countries. And of course, attendance will be skewed towards Igbos. So what's the value in help him understanding problems facing all Nigerians?
Politics / Re: Momment Peter Obi Clapped To Kashim Shettima's Economic Plan (Video) by occam(m): 7:10pm On Aug 23, 2022
The NBA conference is an elitist event. The grassroots is what matters. Tinubu was smart not to attend. The NBA has participated in and enthroned these disreputable politicians into power. NBA is an arm of the elite group that continues to subjugate the will of the people. Politically the event is irrelevant and a photo op that no one will remember by end of the week.

Ironically, the Shettima suit has diverted attention from what was discussed in the event. An own goal by the Obi movement to showcase Peter Obi’s speech; One of his best speech to date

What if OBJ frowns his face? So what? Tinubu knows he and Obasanjo aren't political friends and may never be. This is all a photo op by Tinubu's team to show he's consulting and talking with everyone including those against him. It's all just politics and campaign kick-off moves. How many votes can Obasanjo deliver for anyone? very few. I mean which region, state, or voting group will be persuaded to vote for a candidate because of Obasanjo's support? His relevance in today's politics is rather low.

I'm waiting for the campaign proper to kick off next month, then we can gauge where the wind of victory is blowing. For now, just stay tune and watch.
Politics / Re: Assessing Buhari’s Economic Outcome Vs Obasanjo, Yaradua & Jonathan (Pix Video) by occam(m): 7:31pm On Aug 11, 2022
29kobo:
Just some points..

1.GDP growth rate fell from 7.7 under Obasanjo to 7.5 under Yaradua to 5.5 under GEJ to 1.1 under Buhari.

2. Inflation went up from 12.0 under Obasanjo to 13.4 under Yaradua then to 9.70 under GEJ to 14.0 under Buhari

3.Excahnage rate 26% change under 8 years of Obasanjo to 27.4% under 3 years of Yarauda to 56% under 6 years of GEJ to 150% under Buhari.

4. External resrerves fell from Obasanjo to GEJ and only gained 4 billion more under Buhari.

5.External debt under Obasanjo was 3 billion, under Yaradua was 10 billion in 3 years...7 billion more in 3 years , under GEJ was 15 bn...5 bn more in 3 years and under Buhari 40 billion

6. Missing from the diagram is the oil price. And crucially...our forex needs as a nation, and our tax to gdp ratio. Forex needs have grown since 1999. Especially with the growth of the telecom sector for example.

7. All in all, Nigeria has been depreiciating over the years. It has been worse under Buhari...which shows how bad he is....he knew oil was down...and did not use the tools he needed.

8. But something tells me that the figures show a decline in all indicatiors before Buhari came in. Including reserves.

Which begs the question....what mistakes are Nigerian leaders making that our economy is not improving at all since 1999. I not only see how bad Buhari is , but how bad all our democratic leaders are. Buhari's special awfulness (compounded by falls in oil prices...remember oil has been below 60 dollars per barrel for most of his regime..while we need it above 120 dollars per barrel.Plus his failure to diversify the economy) only obscures the other's awfulness. Especially Yaradua and GEJ
.

Nigeria needs to do something different. What I see here is leaders making the same mistakes over and over again.

What we need to do now to stop the rot is simple.

1.Raise the tax to gdp ratio urgently...meaning we tax everyone including the farmer, herdsman and beggar

2.REMOVE SUBSIDIES. YES FUEL WILL COST 600 NAIRA, YES WE NEED TO BUILD REFINERIES AND FIGHT CORURPTION. YES I AM A BAD PERSON NIGBATI NIGBATI....but subsides are a big reason why the debt under Buhari is growing. They eat a lot of our money yearly. They make the budget defict worse. We are not even benefiting from the oil boom because we have to pay subsides. So, subsides on petrol and power have to go. And before you argue with me, i HAVE heard your arguments, even made them, between 1993-2012 when I woke up...so don't bore me.

3.Fight corruption, even if it means jailing your fave politican. No more pardons. Enough is enough. FIGHT CORRUPTION.

These won't make one naira equal to one dollar but it would give us a platform to start things like diversificaiton and industrial growth.

Excellent points and great observations. Question is which government has the balls to raise taxes and remove petrol subsidy? The next President has to bite the bullet and then phase out or remove petroleum subsidy. Simple. But Nigerians will fight very hard to keep paying for cheap petrol (cheapest in Africa)

Also will next President be willing to raise taxes? Nigeria has the lowest tax to GDP ratio in Africa.

Looking at the top 3 aspirants, none of them has the will to implement this twin unpopular measures.

To whom it May Concern:

Please be advised that Bola A Tinubu attended Chicago State University from August 1977 - June 1979. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with Honors on June 22, 1979. His major was accounting.

Later on they can now take back their certificate if they realise its a fake result the student used and its about to cause a scandal.

Very valid point. But then how did he successfully graduate from university without formal secondary education? Too much mystery surrounding this man’s early years. Don’t we have investigative journalists in this Naija to unravel things about Tinubu

You're absolutely right. Nigerians have been brainwashed and don't know what "winning" means. People need to read more and understand how great nations thrive and win. Besides why remind Nigerians of his association with the fabulously corrupt Enron? Enron committed one of the most accounting deceptions in US History. Yet Tinubu is proud to mention them as one of his achievements.

Nigerians have to be careful and smart with the narrative cooked up for immigration. This a true story about a man that sought refugee status:

The man applied for refugee as a gay man running from prosecution from Nigerian government. This was during Jonathan’s regime. The Canadians accepted his refugee claim and he became a permanent resident.

Four years later, he applied to sponsor his wife and children into Canada to join him. Of course Canadian immigration picked this huge hole of crap in his application. How can you a gay man be married in a heterosexual relationship with 2 children? A man claiming gay now wants to sponsor his wife & children. You can’t make this stuff up

How did Danladi trace him to Lagos State of all places?

They burnt his generator and did not hurt him?

Most Nigerians lack logical reasoning else we would not be where we are as a family, individual and nation....

The Yoruba guy who supposedly fled the North could not go to any of the Western States but could flee to Canada...

They will make it more difficult to relocate this year...

That Danladi story was funny and full of crap. How can a Fulani herdsman trace you from Delta to Lagos and destroy your generator?

They tell lies believing everyone is a fool like them too.

The case of Late Mr. Osibona should be a lesson to all Nigerians. Many Nigerians are blinded by the two foolish foreign religions, Christianity and Islam. You buy sub-standard building materials at a bargain and you think that because you pay tithe/offering on the profit means that Jesus or Mohammed will somehow support the building. Your faith in your foolish ancient Palestinian savior made 60 innocent Nigerians to die a violent and untimely death. Nigerians have the highest number of churches and mosques in the entire world. We are building churches and mosques, while the rest of the advanced world are building research labs, factories and hi-tech centers. Countries that don't even believe in Jesus or Mohammed are doing better than Nigeria. China, an atheist country, is currently services a debts. We are currently been colonized by China either we like it or not. Yet you tell me that Jesus or Mohammed is the way to blessings. Keep your Jesus and Mohammed in your anus. Teach people how to think logically. Teach Nigerians how to engage in critical thinking. Teach people how to eschew corruption. Teach people how to care for their neighbors. Memorizing bible or koran verses is a curse not a blessing. If the Christian or Muslim god is truly alive, Nigeria will be the most developed country on the face of the earth. Stop praying to useless foreign gods that have NOTHING to offer Africans.

In a nutshell, you've stated all that's required to change this country. Convincing people to let go of their Pastors/Imams and embrace logical/critical thinking is a misson impossible.

PlanktonX:

Exactly.

Why do people invest huge sum of money without due diligence. The reason scammers do away with people's money is because even the people too are greedy and ignorant.

What you seek first before releasing your money:

Don't trust registration certificates, they mean a little here.
What is the company doing with investors' fund.
Get hold of their pass performances.
What are the treats to their business.
Is the business insured against such treat.
Who determines investment decisions?
What percentage of their capital are they spending on Ads and other overheads? Because if these costs are high, little capital would be available for the actual business, and thus the business might be a ponzi scheme.

Again, watch how much they pay to referrals, just as this guy and wife pay huge sum to the employing. This shows that the employees are the referrals and baits that lure investors to the gallow.

Its just so painful, that in Nigeria present conditions people are losing huge money to scammers. angry

Even with all these due diligence, they’ll still find a way to scam you. Best thing is to invest your money in Mama Sikira’s Amala & egufe buka. At least you can sit in the buka all afternoon and watch how your investment is doing. Shikena
