Ifa is the repository of everything Yoruba. It is our "alpha and omega". Without ifa, there is no Yoruba or its sub-groups. Gbabẹẹ!!!!

Ọrunmila is a contraction of “ọrun ni o mọ ẹni tio ma la=>> it is heaven that knows who shall be saved
Ọmọluabi is a contraction of “ọmọ ti olu iwa bi” =>> personification of supreme character/divine existence

you are not studying, you are reading into Ifa. If you study Ifa some of what i already explained in the primordial tongue will be revealed to you.

again, you are applying conceptual reasoning to illustrate the meaning of Orunmila. By your interpretation you are saying that mankind has no contributions in his own redemption, it is a predetermined conclusion by heaven who is saved and who is condemned.

the supreme character is not something modeled by God himself, since we are talking about habits and actions and demeanor, they have to be modeled......there is an awakener, a teacher who exhibits these codes of character to lead the way, to set the omoluabi example. who was this divine character, the manifest of the supreme code of behavior, does he have a name?

Le Ostrich: yoruba never see anything...

wait for Nigeria to divide and then become subservient to your hausa lords because your cowardice will not let you attempt to fight for your freedom.

mumu!

p.s.: i did not even bother to read OP's post

i stopped reading him half way through, he is one of the yorubas that are yet to understand the dynamics of competition and self-preservation. may God show him the way.

anyho, yoruba is still the father of politics in this country. while igbo politics revolve around a daily planning and scheming about secession or why others should seccede, yoruba prefer to continously assess political situation and bring it under our harness.

Religion / Sink Hole Swallows Man In His Bedroom by ODUANEGRO: 12:30pm On Mar 03, 2013
Rescue workers announced Saturday that they have halted their search for the body of a man whose bedroom was swallowed up by a sinkhole in a Florida town. The hole opened up in the Tampa suburb of Seffner late Thursday, shattering the concrete slab on which Jeff Bush’s four-bedroom home rested. Rescuers were unable to make contact with Bush, who was presumed dead.

“At this point, it’s really not possible to recover the body,” Hillsborough County Administrator Mike Merrill told reporters.Authorities feared that the hole was still unstable and could grow.“It’s very deep. Very wide. Very unstable. And that’s why I said that any further demolition can’t even take place on the site,” Merrill added of the hole about 25 feet (eight meters) wide at the top but far deeper. “This is a very unusual situation.”Bush’s brother Jeremy had thrown himself into the hole and started digging desperately after the victim was swallowed up, but heard nothing and found no one.

Emergency workers whisked away Jeremy Bush after arriving on the scene and closed off the area out of fear that more of the home could be sucked into the hole.Authorities have evacuated the neighborhood as a precautionary measure.Sinkholes are common in Florida, a state where much property sits on porous limestone that sometimes suddenly dissolves beneath a layer of clay.

Politics / Kwara Police Commissioner Killed In Enugu by ODUANEGRO: 12:15pm On Mar 03, 2013
ENUGU—Tragedy struck in Enugu Saturday night when the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chinwike Asadu,  was shot dead by unknown gunmen. His police orderly, Aloha Olaniyi and Driver, Oliver Omeh, who were with him at the time of the incident sustained serious bullet wounds  and are said to be lying critically at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu.

The incident occurred at Amorji Nike, near the densely populated Abakpa  Nike area in Enugu East local government area within the state capital at about 10 pm.The Police Commissioner, who reportedly visited his home in Enugu at the weekend, was driving into his private residence when the assailants who  may have laid an ambush around his residence attacked him and his aides about 100 metres away from his house.CP Asadu, according to sources, had a visitor whom he escorted along with his driver and a police orderly posted to guard his residence from Abakpa Police Division, leaving behind the official escort team that came with him from Kwara State Police Command.

They were returning to the house after dropping the visitor when they suddenly noticed a bus trailing them behind as they branched into his street only for the gunmen to start firing at the vehicle from the rear. The gunmen were said to have shot sporadically killing the CP and wounding the two policemen but before they escaped, they reportedly took away the rifle of the orderly whose body was riddled with bullets. The orderly was shot on the chest, stomach, hands and leg while the driver was shot on his legs.“The CP was driving into his personal residence in Amorji Nike after dropping a visitor that night.  He was with a police orderly and his driver at the time of the incident. Just about 100 metres to his house they noticed that a bus was trailing them behind and before they could know what was happening the gunmen opened fire and killed the CP instantly.

His orderly and driver were also shot and they were seriously wounded.“The gunmen ran away  in their bus before the CP’s escort team that was inside his compound noticed what was happening.  When the escort team and sympathizers rushed to the scene, they met CP Asadu and his orderlies in a pool of blood.  They were rushed to the National Orthopaedic Hospital where doctors confirmed the CP dead.  The other two policemen are now on admission at the hospital,” said the source.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the incident when Vanguard contacted him yesterday, describing the attack as very unfortunate.  He said that the CP was on a private visit to his home in Enugu when the incident occurred.According to him, the police would do everything possible to fish out the assailants as investigations into the bizarre incident have already commenced.

The new Police Commissioner in Enugu State, Mr. Tonye Ebitibituwa, was said to have directed his men to conduct serious manhunt for the gunmen within and outside the state capital in order to track them down without delay.Meanwhile, doctors at the National Orthopeadic Hospital, Enugu are battling to save the two wounded police officers.

The orderly who was seriously battered by bullets, according to doctors, was said to be in a stable condition after the surgeries conducted on him throughout Saturday night.  The driver was also said to be in a stable condition.-

kabiyesiii:

Can you then tell us the meaning of Adura? Ifa is my source. What is yours?

Ifa cannot possibly tell you that adura is made up of the two components, ado and iwa. this breakdown is what you ascribe to adura and its because you believed, outside of any other reasonable explanation, that a concept of prayer exist in ado and iwa.

adura is not borrowed from arabic and is not borrowed from islam, it is an ancient yoruba word in yoruba tongue, and does not comprise ado and iwa.

islam did not introduce a new language or tongue to mankind. islam simply functioned on a preexisting tongue called arabic. arabis is a family of semitic tongue. all proto semitic tongues derived from ancient hebrew which was originally kanaan. even the children of israel who speak hebrew today did not speak hebrew originally, they spoke aramaic.

yoruba was part of kanaan and the tongue is a residual of ancient spoken hebrew. this is why you see a high concentration of common words between yoruba language and the cultures of the meditteranean.

if these words were purely through attrition of islamic conquest then words such as "ara" (thunder); "ale" (night); alantakun (spider); and many others which find cognate in arabic should also be found in usage amongst those who we are said to inherit islam, and consequently arabic words, from. there are exclusive words which only are common in semitic roots and yoruba and hundreds of these exist. inspection of all muslim regions bordering yorubaland, to our west and north show that while words like "alubosa"; "alubarika"; "alujonnu" may be common, they do not prove presence by islamic influence. they may have been all along part of the yoruba tongue before islam even ever came to arabia. the presence of words such as i gave above (ara, ale, alantakun) and these- "asha'le" (late night) which finds cognate in the islamic prayer "isha" (late night prayer); "alejo" (guest or traveller) with arabic cognate in "alhaj" (guest or pilgrim) - should incite interest for discovery, rather than doubts and dismissals for whether yoruba and hebrew or semitic tongues are intimately interconnected,. interconnection between the two is not as a result of religious influence and influx but because yoruba was at one point (predating islam) a native of kanaan, the hebrew people.

even in religious rites, traditional yoruba worship is close knit with islamic and judaic rituals and egyptian as well. there is nothing of all these that denies pride in the blackness and afro centric culture of yoruba but denying its roots and ancient history is worse than a blasphemy of oath.

@bashr4,We are not IJAWS but we are ILAJE.Besides d IJAWs are not yoruba.BUT ILAJES are Yorubas with dier ancestral home found in ILAJE local govt of ONDO state.dis local govt is made up of about 90% riverine and 10% upland. However,u can find d ILAJE pple any where there is water especially one dat is big enough to support fishing.
Above all,d IJAW people has no IDEA of d sea,so their activities is usually restricted to INLAND water, unlike d ILAJES who are SEA SAVVY

that explains why ijaw only worship water but not the sea. whereas ilaje do worship the sea.
