The creed is principally and fundamentally the Quran.....everything else is non-obligatory.
Crime / Re: Landlady Sues Dead Tenant In Lagos by ODUANEGRO: 7:27pm On Dec 13, 2012
This is a classic legal issue. The conflict between customary laws and grandfathered English laws, which for our convenience we renamed and called common law.

It sounded funny and unbelievable to the audience sitting in a courtroom, established and modeled after British legal system, and chaired by a wig-wearing magistrate, that a deceased person would be sued for non-payment of debts. This goes to show that we are naturally out of harmony with the common laws our leaders imposed to govern our conduct and beahvior in socirty.

Under common law, a deceased person.....in the capacity of their estate, can be sued to recover debts.

Under customary law, a deceased person cannot be sued to recover debts.

The conflict between our nature and customs to the demands placed on us by the adaptation of foreign and unnatural practices continously exposes our ignorance and incompetence to organize a prrfect social order for progress and performance.

Politics / Re: Hoodlums May Take Over Nigeria – Afenifere by ODUANEGRO: 6:52pm On Dec 13, 2012
citizenisb: Second, this nation is littered with 3rd worlders and those people are VERY comfortable, accustomed, ok with having oligarchs (who are white) rule over them and commit massive corruption every single day.  In fact, in black-run cities, they virtually INSIST on having a corrupt leader.  Bonus points if he's black too.

Ordinary whites seem to believe blacks have the same innate notions of right and wrong and even same basic concept of how government works.  They don't. Most asians get this, but they have corruption issues as well.  Blacks don't conceptualize governance as representation, they conceptualize it as ownership, chiefdom.  It is not corruption to them, it is what the chief do with he property, as he see fit because it beez his.

There's no innate African concept of construction, building for the future, things are here and now, very non future time oriented.  We got 13% of them

thumbs up!!

ndu_chucks: It suffices to say that we are by no means on top of the world regarding our system of government or electioneering in Nigeria. We are a young democracy and by any standard, we have improved our election process constantly, thanks to Jega. We obviously have to deal with growing pains which. Insha Allah, we shall overcome.

I have to laugh like OBJ, when the kettle, in the likeness of Afenifere old coots, start calling other pots (aka hoodlums) black. Nonesense. The generation of Afenifere leaders/elders have done more to ruin Nigeria than any so-called hooldlum can ever do. One day go be one day, monkey go go market.......

what a rasklat! shocked.

In the development of Nigeria West has sacrificed the most that peace and order may reign in the nation. North and East hav each, and consistently, brewed problems for a peaceful co-existence.

Afenifere is a principal partner and actor in guiding the principles and action of Westerners for an amiable and calm response to the storm and chaos coming from the rest of the country.

get it right Mr!

PointB: Nothing new here! Hoodlums, brigands, cabals, despots, and rascals have ran and ruin this country for very long time. What we are witnessing now is the result of commulative damage to the country's commonwealth. The president can only do so much. Local leaders and state governors have as much stake in peace, security, and welfare of their constituency, and this include Afenifere itself. Rather than whining, complaining and pointing fingers, they should intensive effort in sensitising their immediate communities and society. FG cannot do it alone!

you sound intoxicated in this response. c'mon, come up with a warmer and people-friendly response.

.....by the way, hope business still dey boom for East. grin

k2039:

Oh, so muslims also have conflicting believes with their doctrines, it's not just christianity alone

Muslims don't have conflicting beliefs in the Quran. The traditions of the Prophets (Abraham, Moses, Joseph, David, Solomon, Jesus, Mohammed) are interpreted in different dimensions giving cause to different rites and transmitted by different adepts, which became followings or "orders".

This confrontation is therefore on the propriety of reciting an interpretation held by one order at a sacred ground of another order that does not use Suratul Fatihi.
Politics / Re: VP Sambo Hurriedly Leaves His Daughters' Wedding Cremony In Kaduna by ODUANEGRO: 5:57pm On Dec 13, 2012
SURATUL FATIHI

Allahumma salli ' wa sallim was baarik ala Sayyidina Muhammadilnil-fatihi lima Ughliqa wal khatimi lima sabaqa wan-naa-siril-haqqibil-haqqi wal-hadi ila Sirati-kal-mustaqima sal-lal-lahu 'alayhiwa 'ala alihi wa-ashaabihi haqqa qadrihi wa-miq-da rihil-'azim.

O God bless our Master Muhammad (pbuh) who opened what had been closed, and who is the Seal of what had gone before, he who makes the Truth Victorious by the Truth, the guide to thy straight path, and bless his household as is the due of his immense position and grandeur.

Background

The reason why it is the best Salat Ala Nabi, Because all other Salat ala Nabi end with Wa Sallim, or Tasliman. Salim means Peace. Mankind is the only thing that needs peace. Allah and his angels don't need peace. Salatul Fatih ends with Azeem in the dua. But after finishing the prayer ends with Al Hamdu Lillahi Rabbi Aalimeen.

This prayer belongs to the Tijjaniyya Order. Sultan Muhammed Bello was a Tijjaniyya. I cannot understand why Gumi would disprove a recitation of Suratul Fati in Sultan Bello's Mosque.

.......something else is at the root of this confrontation and only just flared up at this event.

Onlytruth,

Good stewardship and accountability. I like your report and I have questionsfor you on many of the assigments you reported on. These questions will no doubt create second guesses on your leadership and so in saving grace I will restrain myself from starting a revolt. I do want to comment that this your report is an insult to Nairaland.

I say this because you as the leader of ndigbos in NL demonstrated, even online, the same set of principles and spirit that leaders of alaigbo use to discriminate against their own sons and daughters of the osu outcast. You created a separate and hidden agenda forum from which to pursue your online interests in NL. That's reasonable, in fact I cant understand that you only just started that last year....but the criteria for inclusion is selective and angled against igbo osus. You only accept certain class of Igbos. What a shame!! You must repair that going forward.

Another observation I made is the judgement behind the report itself. If I were you I would circulate it in igbo language. The whole point of creating ENYI is to keep the nonIgbos from your business. So why bring the report of that business back to share with them in a language they can read and undrstand? You should have either not given a Nairaland report of what you did in ENYI or if you must report it in nl, then it should have been a for-your-eyes-only distribution to ndigbos.

Anyway, Congrats on your term . : wink

Culture / Re: Yoruba's; Originated From The East, Is This True. by ODUANEGRO: 7:36pm On Nov 08, 2012
Andre Uweh:
The Hausa/Kanuri example is the tracing of their ancestry from the Mid east.
Oduduwa-a conquerer from unknown destination, some say Arab, some say from the Heaven while recently they trace his roots from a place called Benin now. While Yoruba as a people occupy modern day South west Nigeria, some parts of Kwara state and a tiny bit of south east Benin Republic.

The confusion about Yoruba origin is rising day by day. It has to stop and as a result, historians should stop looking outside the south west as the source of Yoruba origin.

No one is interested in your preaching. I want you to answer my question in its specifics. I dont mind debating someone that has deep knowledge but i detest when fools with google info come basking in their cultural illiteracy to say what they dont know but heard on rumor feed and keep repeating it.

Here is my first question after you answer it we go to the second one.

How did Hausa/Kanuri trace the history which you claim became the model for Yoruba knowledge? Share the how and the narrative of their fact finding.
Culture / Re: Yoruba's; Originated From The East, Is This True. by ODUANEGRO: 6:24am On Nov 08, 2012
Andre Uweh: @The Topic, The Yorubas do not come from anywhere. Any one who says they come from any where is a liar. Oduduwa might have come from somewhere which is not certain, but not the Yoruba people.
At first, early Yoruba historians following the Hausa and Kanuri examples started tracing the origin of the Yorubas to Mid east. It was just the influence of Hausa/Fulanis on the Yorubas at that time that brought about this claim.
Modern day Yoruba historians should not look outside the south west as origin of the yoruba people.

Andre,

So whats that Hausa/Kanuri example that Yoruba used for tracing?
Do you know the difference between Oduduwa and Yoruba? If you do what is it?

geeez: Why are these guys so lawless?

You've been restricted from riding on only 452 out of over 9,000 roads. Why on earth is that hard a rule to stick with!?

I think government needs to get firmer

This should act as eye opener for Fashola. He is too liberal and if he continues to allow this and allow that, pretty soon the society has no restrictions left in place to protect its people.

Why was okada even allowed to operate as a mode of public transportation to begin with?
Politics / Re: Police Brutality Claiming To Have Orders From Fashola by ODUANEGRO: 6:05am On Nov 08, 2012
Madejibo is a ibo guy spinning lies and now including hausa as victims of the law enforcement.

Hausas have been in and lived in Lagos for many many years before ibo knew the road to Lagos and these people do not disregard govt call to order.

Ibos are the only people known to have this genetic defect that makes them antisocial even in the least possible measure.

Politics / Re: Fashola: Stay In Your Village If You Cant Obey Our Traffic Law by ODUANEGRO: 9:10am On Nov 07, 2012
Fashola has taken this gentleman and soft approach too far....now he cant get Igbos to respect him in his own executive domain. We will replace him with an executive that understands Igbo people and is ambitious about redefining boundaries for igbos in Lagos.

You all need to come to an understanding, this is the Atlantic coast......you may have been born in Lagos, your native soil is thousands of miles away in a landlock region.

Fashola does not have a discriminatory nature, we will find a governor for you that does.

I cant see how seanet statement is tribalistic.

People need to move back to their home states......look, Igbojust declared yesterday a new Biafran nation. Yoruba has wrapped up an agenda for regional integration and commonwealth unity, Hausa has choosen sharia. So what is tribalistic about telling people to go fvckng back to their villages if they are unwilling to abide by laws in Yorubaland?

....what, you want to be left alone to do what you want and anyway you want
Politics / Re: Radio And TV Permit In Lagos; Legal Or Illegal? by ODUANEGRO: 8:43am On Nov 07, 2012
This is not a new thing at all. Media licensing had been in the books for decades it just had lapsed and never enforced. Lagos is bringing back its enforcement.

The Western Region, back when it had the WNTV (first tv station in Africa) and WNBC (first radio statiin in Nigeria), raised its own revenue through licensing. If you did not pay you will receive a citation plus carry a debt and if you are delinquent your receiver will be shut off.

This was back when there were inspectors and regulators and enforcers and the society was orderly and bureaucracy worked. In Lagos, a lot of the enforcement was done by the LCC - Lagos City Council.

How did I know this? lol, I saw this old redifussion box my grandfather owned and started asking questions about it. I got plenty education on it. It had only one channell by the way..... They had a theme drum when it was time for Irohin - news and it went like this...... ninu ikoko dudu lati'n se 'be.

There can be no doubt in the message that Fashola was directing this message to Igbos.

Igbos ought to reflect on this event and heed the governor.'s directive to obey and abide by state environmental and traffic laws. I say this because Fashola is the only non-Igbo elected officer in Nigeria who truly has created an open and accomodating environment for Igbos to thrive in and live securely with no fear of threat to their blood or property.

He made arrangements for you to mourn the loss of Ojukwu on the streets of Lagos. He accomodated while your BZM gathered to promote Biafra resurgenece. Whereelse outside Igboland will allow you to have Biafran political rally? Even the FG is vehemently opposed to anything that look like, smell like or taste like Biafra.....but this man gave you the field to rally and raise your awareness. What is there not to appreciate in Fashola?

When he issues an order you people ought to be the first adopting and supporting it. No other non-Igbo governor will allow you to do half the things Fashola has bent over backwards to allow for you in Lagos. If he tightens on the rope on your neck it will be double harder for you than the hardship of obeying his order to reapect environment and traffic.

You are given room to do in Yorubaland what FG or your own land or even Hausaland will not allow you to do. ......thanks to Fashola.

You all need to rwflect before its too late for you. The governor is upset....you need to be in your best behavior. The constitution will not rescue you and neither will FG come to your aid. A word is good for the wise!

Pagan,

Isnt it time you identify with a culture, instead of probing around for a surrogate home? You say you are Hausa but you dont have a grip on hausa culture, pre or post Islamic. You dance into Igbo culture but you dont know jack about it and wont admit. You snoop into Yoruba culture but your understanding of world cultures and antiquity is half baked and you come up short on points. To cover your a*ss you use all these cheap labels to paint contributors on their own home front as slave of this and slave of that.

Who is a more defined slave than one who is everywhere without foundation and everywhere but in his home? Where is your home?

Timeline can be drawn if the total narrative is re-erected. Timeline is storyline. If we get the story we can build the time. The story can be in form of oral history, arts, rituals, customs, tools, reign
....etc.

Atala is an archaic Yoruba term for deluge, a flood that wipes out civilization. Yoruba myth and cosmic reference include knowledge about Noah and Obatala. Obatala is a title of position.....for the one who holds the covenant of a deluge. That covenant includes creation and re-creation through the power of flooding. A covenant is an ase. Orisala is the ase of Obatala. The Canaanites were in posession of Orisala. The sanctum or temple they kept it in is what later grew to become the sacred city of Jerusalem. That sanctum has been destroyed and rebuilt many times through the ages.

Researchers all over the world are preoccupied with the search for a physical piece of Ark of the Covenant. They will not find it because they have the wrong concept of what the Ark is.
Culture / Re: Yoruba's; Originated From The East, Is This True. by ODUANEGRO: 12:23pm On Nov 06, 2012
Ive known that Atala was synonymous with body of water such as Atlantis, Atlantic, Atlas. It was a Canaanite word, their language was old Hebrew which I have sworn to is the ancient tongue of the Yorubas.

Well, Atala is different from just any body of water. Yoruba have words ....that functionally go beyond concept and give feeling to what is being defined. Odo is river, Osa is lagoon or.a lake, Agbami is sea, Okun is ocean.

So what is Atala?

I will not discourage reading and studies to better grasp meanings in the cultire. If reading dierk's helped your understanding then it is good.....the bottom line is a firm grasp and understanding.

On the naming of towns, there are also very good examples to show similarities.. Idappa or Addapa in Babylonian creation myth has the same place symbolism that we assign to Itapa festival in Ife.

I m still studying on some claim i heard that Orisala is the deity of Obatala who was instrumental in the creation of life. We know what Oba is but what is Atala?
