On Wednesday, the Code of Conduct Tribunal sitting in Abuja, ruled that Senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki has no case to answer in the 18 charges of non-declaration of assets brought against him by the Federal Government. It was earlier reported that the Federal Government had on September 16, 2015 filed a 13-count charge against Saraki for alleged false and anticipatory declaration of assets. These charges were increased to 15 on April 18, 2016. Another charge was added on April 27, 2016 to make it 16. The government later increased the charges to 17 on January 11, 2017 and finally to 18 on February 23, 2017. The two-man panel led by its Chairman, Danladi Umar of the CCT had reserved its ruling after hearing Saraki’s no-case submission and the Federal Government’s objection to it on June 8. The Senate President, through his no-case submission filed before the CCT on May 26, 2017, contended that none of the exhibits tendered and no evidence given by the four prosecution witnesses linked him to the alleged offences to warrant him to defend the charges. The consequences of missing the African Cup of Nations for the third time may cause the Super Eagles to loose some sponsors. The Super Eagles missed out on the last two editions of AFCON. And are on the thin wire after losing the opening to a 2-0 defeat against the Bafana Bafana last Saturday. They sit third in Group B of the qualifier with Libya and South Africa occupying in first and second positions respectively. According to New Telegraph, some of the sponsorship deals the Nigeria Football Federation signed were performance-based and a partner like kits manufacturing giants, Nike, will end the relationship with the country if the Super Eagles fail to make it to AFCON for the third consecutive time. A source of the New Telegraph , the federation said the NFF chiefs were jittery and desperate at the moment knowing that it would be disastrous losing sponsors at a time it is facing economic crunch. “Missing the Nations Cup again will be disastrous for the country. We are going to lose so much, one of the biggest problems is the fact that some sponsors will leave. Nike for instance, may want to activate some of the clauses in the contract it signed with the NFF that it may end the deal if the Eagles do not qualify for the Nations Cup. “ It was reported that o ne of the conditions they gave for renewing the contract was the performance of the national team, they were reluctant to sign but we hope the Eagles would step up their game. More companies are speaking with the federation but they were all concerned about the prospect of the Eagles’ performances on their brand. We may lose so much if we fail to qualify for both the Nations Cup and the World Cup and that is why Amaju Pinnick told us he would use his influence to ensure the team makes it to the two competitions,” the source said. http://www.360gistpilot.com/2017/06/2019-afcon-nigeria-may-loose-sponsors.html?m=1
