Liverpool striker Sadio Mane has followed in the footsteps of team-mate Mohamed Salah by being named African footballer of the year.


The 27-year-old scored 32 goals in 53 appearances for Liverpool during the calendar year as well as sharing the Premier League Golden Boot (with Salah), being named in the PFA Team of the Year and, of course, playing a key role in helping Jurgen Klopp 's men win the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Mane also helped Senegal reach the final of the African Nations Cup where they lost 1-0 to Algeria.

Accepting his award, a typically humble Mane said: "To be honest, I would rather be playing football than having to speak in front of all these important people because football is my job and I love it.

"I am really happy and at the same time really proud to win this award.

"I would like to thank my family, especially my uncle who is here today, without forgetting all the Egyptian people as well and of course my national team coach, (former Birmingham City and Portsmouth midfielder) Aliou Cisse, my team mates with the national team and the staff at the Federation.


"I also thank Liverpool Football Club, my team mates, the staff and everybody there.

"It is a big day for me.. I don't really know how to say it but I would love to thank all the Senegalese people. They have been with me all the time and they push me to do better.

"Also the people from my village. I have come very far, Bambali is a very small village and I am sure they are watching on the tv.

Liverpool have broken silence ahead of the CAF awards 2019.



The biggest football award in Africa is set to go down tonight in Egypt according to reports gathered.

One major headline at the event it the best player award for the men's category.

Liverpool duo, Saido Mane and Mohamed Salah are expected to battle for the gong with club rival Riyad Mahrez of Manchester City.

Recall that both Mane and Salah were instrumental to Liverpool last campaign as the Reds lifted the UEFA Champions League, came short behind league winners Manchester City. But this campaign, Liverpool have won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.


For their national side, Mane seems to have the upper hand as the Former Southampton winger guided Senegal to second place in the 2019 AFCON after losing out to Algeria in final.

Mahrez was instrumental to Algeria lifting the 2019 AFCON, one to remember was his stunning free kick against Nigeria in the semi final.

Nigeria Professional Football League side, Enyimba have sacked Usman Abd'allah.


It was learnt that his dismissal came after 4-0 defeat to Plateau United in Sunday's league outing in Jos.



His assistant, Fatai Osho has been appointed to take charge in an interim role.

According to reports gathered, Since their 1-0 win over Rivers United on December 12, Enyimba are winless in their last five games - losing three and settling for two draws.

Recall that last season, Abd'allah led the People's Elephant to an unprecedented eighth league title and to the semi-final of the Caf Confederation Cup in 2018, where they bowed to Raja Casablanca.

Enyimba are placed 13th in the Nigeria Professional Football League table with 15 points after 10 games.

They host Kwara United for their next fixture on Wednesday.

"This is not a decision we have have taken lightly, nor in haste," club chairman, Felix Anyansi Agwu noted.

“Results and performances since the start of this season have been very unimpressive and the club must take action to forestall further setbacks.

“We are speaking to the players too and they must do better otherwise there will be consequences. As Enyimba we are committed to earning positive results always and we can’t accept nothing less.”

Cristiano Ronaldo got his 2020 up and running with a hat-trick as Ragnar Klavan's error helped gift Juventus a 4-0 win over Cagliari, sending the champions back above Inter at the Serie A summit.

Super Eagles of Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa has won the 2019 Saudi Super Cup with Al Nassr after their 5-4 penalty shoot-out success over Al-Tawooun.

The game was settled with a penalty shoot out after full-time at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the contest was locked at 1-1 at full-time.



The 27-year-old was replaced by Abdulfattah Mohamed Adam five minutes from time.



It was learnt that Al Taawon took the lead through Cameroonian forward Leandre Tawamba Kana in the 18th minute.



Abderrazak Hamdallah equalised for Al Nassr two minutes before the half-hour mark.

David Beckham's new franchise football club Inter Miami set to make it debut in America's Major League Soccer (MLS) in two months time.



It has been learnt that the club has appointed Diego Alonso as it's new coach.

David Moyes has been appointed as West Ham manager.

The Socttish is expected to return to the West London side for a second spell.



According to report gathered, 56-year-old Scot has signed an 18-month deal and will take charge of the New Year's Day home game against Bournemouth at London Stadium.



He replaces Manuel Pellegrini, who was sacked after Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by a much-changed Leicester side.



"I feel like I've got unfinished business," said Moyes, who led the Hammers to Premier League safety in a seven-month spell from November 2017.



Recall that Moyes took over from Slaven Bilic two years ago, but he left at the end of the season as the east London club decided to hire former Manchester City manager Pellegrini.



The Chilean boss led the Hammers to a 10th-place finish last season, was sacked following their fourth straight home defeat on Saturday.

Barcelona midfielder, Arturo Vidal has taken a legal action against his Spanish club following the inability to pay his bonuses.

The Chilean international believes he is due for some certain bonuses, and claims the fee is around 2.4 million euros.

Barcelona didn’t accept the legal action, after they claim that Vidal has a bad interpretation of his own contract and might be trying to force a move out of the club.

Arturo Vidal joined Barcelona in August 3, 2018 on a three year contract for a fee around 19 Million Euros.

On 12 August 2018, the Chilean made his debut for the club after coming on as a substitute in a 2–1 victory over Sevilla to claim the 2018 Spanish Super Cup. Jose Mourinho has had a festive period to forget after revealing that his family dog died on Christmas day while giving a live TV interview.

The Tottenham boss was giving a pre-match interview before Spurs' Boxing Day match against Brighton when he was asked by presenter Jim Rosenthal if he'd enjoyed Christmas so far.

The spotlight has been firmly on Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea since the weekend however, after another high-profile mistake from a keeper that has seen his form drop off dramatically in the last couple of seasons, having been so impressive previously.

The Spaniard had established himself as arguably the best goalkeeper in the world a few years into his career at Old Trafford, but his current form is seeing him fall behind the likes of Alisson, Ederson and Marc-André ter Stegen in that list now.


You can't doubt how good he is at reflex saves but what the stat does suggest is that his concentration might be the issue, particularly when United are struggling so much in games where they dominate possession and he isn't worked as much.

There's no doubt that United fans will be subjected to more days of frustration in the near future as they continue their period of transition that doesn't seem to have an end in sight.

But if they are to drag themselves out of the mire that they find themselves in, they'll need De Gea to rediscover his best form sooner rather than later.

Super Eagles attacker Alex Iwobi shared picture of himself and his family celebrating Christmas.

Iwobi is currently down with injury and will be out of action for three, but the setback is not enough to deny him the opportunity of celebrating Christmas with his family.

The Everton star was pictured with his parents and sibling with the famous red Xmas caps, as they continued to enjoy the moment.

However, Iwobi won't have the opportunity to feature in Everton's boxing day premier league clash with Liverpool at Goodison park.

He suffered in the opening minutes of the goalless draw against Arsenal this past weekend.

Frank Lampard was in no mood to entertain Jose Mourinho's assertion that Antonio Rudiger got Son Heung-min sent off during Chelsea's 2-0 win at Tottenham.


It was a case of the apprentice besting the master at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Willian's first-half brace only telling part of the story when it came to the superiority of Lampard's Chelsea against Mourinho's abject Spurs.

The occasion was marred when Rudiger told match officials he had suffered racist abuse from the stands during the second half and Spurs have pledged to take strong action against anyone found guilty.

While Lampard and Mourinho were united in their condemnation of another bleak episode for British football, they had different views of the incident involving Rudiger and Son that saw the Spurs forward sent off following a VAR review.

Son kicked out after going to ground in an aerial challenge with the Germany centre-back, who Mourinho mockingly suggested might have "broken ribs" at a post-match news conference.

"In some countries, like mine, for example with our culture we used to say clever player," the Portuguese coach said.

"But in this country, and one of the reasons I fell in love with this country in 2004, we don't call them clever, we call them other things that I refuse to call."


Lampard felt such an assessment was somewhat missing the point.

"It was a red card. I don't know how much he's supposed to make out of it," he said.

"I think Son is a great player and, I don't know him, from the outside he looks like a great person. But sometimes in football you have instinctive moments.

"It happened, it was a bit of a reflex. Maybe sometimes in a game where you're having it really tough and it's going against you a little bit and I think it was that [type of] moment.

"I will not have any words said about how Toni Rudiger dealt with that."

Nevertheless, Lampard insisted his respect for Mourinho – under whom he enjoyed some of the finest years of a decorated playing career at Stamford Bridge – remains undimmed.

"I think to go up against a manager who I respect so much from my playing days and for what he's done in the game and win, that obviously feels good," he added, having celebrated with prolonged euphoria before the travelling Chelsea fans at full-time.

"He spoke before the game about how he really loves me but he wants to beat me. That's completely understandable and that's how I went into this game.

"It should never change that, even if we have anything on the line in the heat of the 90 minutes, which we didn't.

"What Jose has done with his career and what he's done for me as a player means I have respect for him."
