Mikel Arteta has suggested Mesut Ozil will be a big part of his Arsenal team, labelling him "a massive player for this football club".


Ozil's career has been on the decline since Unai Emery took the reins last season, and it failed to pick up once the Spaniard was sacked and temporarily replaced by Freddie Ljungberg.

Arsenal fans feared Ozil could be on his way out in January with Fenerbahce among the clubs looking to snap him up, but Arteta has suggested the World Cup winner will be a focal point of his new-look Gunners.

"He is a massive player for this football club," said Arteta. "I worked with him, I know when he ticks, what he can bring to the team. It's my job to get the best out of him."

Ozil was the first Arsenal player to react to the confirmation of Arteta's appointment this Friday.

Following on from a FIFA inspection visit to Costa Rica and Panama as well as further discussions with the two relevant member associations, the Bureau of the FIFA Council has today confirmed that the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2020 will be played in August in Costa Rica and Panama.


The 16 participating teams will be divided into four groups of four with the best two of each group advancing to the quarter-finals. This will be the first-ever co-hosting of a FIFA youth tournament and the second co-hosting of a FIFA tournament since the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan.

The number of stadiums to be used for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica and Panama 2020 will be discussed and confirmed with the two-member associations. Details on the tournament’s time frame and match schedule will follow.

“We would like to thank the Costa Rican and Panamanian football associations for their commitment towards women’s football and the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in particular. We are looking forward to a fantastic competition in August," said FIFA’s Chief Tournaments and Events Officer Colin Smith.

Barcelona have been fined 1,500 euros and warned of a stadium closure by the Competition Committee. This was due to the disturbances caused at the Camp Nou during Wednesday's Clasico against Real Madrid.

Referee Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez was forced to stop play after numerous inflatable balls were thrown on to the pitch during the second half.

It was learnt that Barcelona have been adjudged to have breached article 101.2 of the Spanish Football Federation's Disciplinary Code, which consists of a "serious infraction" and the "launch of various balls or other objects on to the field of play from the stands, irrespective of whether the game is stopped or not."

Recall that the Clasico original fixture was postponed over security fears in October.

Nelson Semedo's house was robbed today, hours before El Clasico, while the player was at Hotel Sofia with his teammates to prepare for tonight's game, according to Cadena Ser.


Jewellery and watches were stolen from Semedo's household during the robbery, among other things.

Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal stormed out of Tuesday's training session after learning he would not start against Real Madrid on Wednesday, sources have told ESPN.


Vidal, 32, usually stays on after training for shooting practice with a number of other first-team players but left early when coach Ernesto Valverde revealed he would sit on the bench in the Clasico.

Several players tried to comfort Vidal but the Chilean international, who the club fear could now push for a January move away from Camp Nou, could not be calmed down.

Inter Milan, coached by Antonio Conte, who worked with Vidal previously at Juventus, are long-time admirers of the former Bayern Munich man.

Barcelona are aware of the comments he made in Chile last month, when he said if he wasn't playing and didn't feel important he would have to move on.

Since then, he's started just once -- a meaningless match against Inter in the Champions League -- and has seen Ivan Rakitic, who had previously made just one start in 17 games, return to the team ahead of him.

Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen has been taken to the hospital after suffering an injury in Lille's feisty encounter with AS Monaco. According to Canal+, Osimhen was rushed to the hospital after he complained of chest pain and a sensation of his head spinning. The forward opened the scoring at Monaco in the 19th minute with a superb finish a after an assist by Jonathan Ikone.




Osimhen was however substituted four minutes after scoring with former Chelsea man, Loic Remy replacing him.The 20-year old has now scored nine Ligue 1 goals for Lille this season and manager Cristopher Galtier will be hoping the injury isn't too serious.

According to reports from Sports Extra, one of Nigeria’s most decorated coaches, Samson Siasia, insists that he has been wrongly accused, banned and fined by FIFA for an offence he never committed.

On 16 August 2019, international governing body of football, FIFA banned Siasia from the game for life fined and $50,000, following a match-fixing investigation. The adjudicatory chamber of FIFA’s independent Ethics Committee stated that the former Nigerian coach pleaded guilty of having accepted “bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation of the FIFA Code of Ethics”.

Samson Siasia claims that FIFA has so far not presented proof to back their accusations that he is guilty of the allegations levelled against him. The former Julius Berger striker and Olympic silver medalist went on to express his disappointment at the Nigeria Football Federation and other agencies of Government who he claims are yet to lift a finger in my support despite series of promises.



He told Sports Extra:

“At this appeal, because I know that I am very innocent of the charges and I never participated in any of the previous proceedings simply because I was unaware, I was so confident I had a strong case and instructed my legal representatives in this matter,”

“My lawyers have informed me that CAS made a decision which favours FIFA and prejudices me to strike out my claim for compensation and have thus reinstated it.

“I am saying I was wrongly banned for life, and because FIFA informed the whole world of my alleged commission of the offences of match fixing and bribery I feel I am entitled to claim for compensation for this terrible slaw and aspersion that they cast against my character globally.



“I want the world to know that rather than correct itself now that FIFA knows of the strength of my appeal and the evidence given thus far to prove that I could not have committed the alleged offences of match fixing and bribery, FIFA continues to spread false allegations that I was involved with the match fixer without any shred of evidence and has continued to do so because it knows there is no compensation claim.”

Siasia also expressed disappointment at the Nigeria Football Federation for their lack of support in his quest to clear his name.

“I do not want to interfere with my lawyers professional course of duty, but my family and I are pained that the Nigeria Football Federation and other agencies of Government are yet (in spite of promises) to lift a finger in my support.

“No overtures have been made to my lawyer and I with support, financially and otherwise officially, all I have heard from Mr Pinnick through my wife is that they will be supportive, it’s a mantra I have been hearing since August when this matter happened up till date.”

Kieran Tierney has taken to social media to reveal he had a successful operation after dislocating his shoulder against West Ham.

Arsenal's summer signing lasted just under 30 minutes after he fell awkwardly and left the pitch with his arm in a makeshift sling.

Tierney, who has struggled for fitness this season with a hamstring issue, went down under no contact following a Hammers attack.

The Scotland international, who faces three months out, was making his first start under Freddie Ljungberg having struggled with a secret shoulder injury.

And after going under the knife, the ex-Celtic left-back posted an update from his hospital bed on his Instagram story to his followers.

He wrote: "Op done. Soup terrible. Thank you as always for the lovely messages. Helping me a lot."

Tierney has a history of a troublesome shoulder that stemmed during his time at Celtic.

Lille coach Christophe Galtier has confirmed that Victor Osimhen is the designated penalty taker of the club after the Nigeria international was involved in an on-field debate with Jonathan Ikone during the first half of the Ligue 1 tie against Montpellier on Friday night.


Five minutes before half-time, Ikone stepped up to convert a spot-kick won by Osimhen, which did not please captain Jose Fonte and manager Galtier as they wanted the rule to be applied.

Speaking to reporters post-match, Galtier explained : ''I saw what happened and I'm going to talk about it with the players.

''In the last match against Brest, Victor gave Jonathan (Bamba) the chance to shoot, it was a gift.

''This is something I am going to intervene on because there were far too many people around the ball, it can confuse the taker at some point.

'' Brazilian winger Luiz Araújo would have liked to take the 89th penalty kick missed by Osimhen against Montpellier and Galtier has revealed that the Nigerian is number one in the hierarchy of spot-kick takers.

Arsenal caretaker manager Freddie Ljungberg has told the club’s board they ‘must make a decision’ on their next appointment soon as the team continue to drift deeper into crisis.


The Swede had just watched his team lose meekly 3-0 at home against Manchester City, leaving him with just one win from his five games in charge.

"I've said to them [the board] they need to make a decision,” Ljungberg told Sky Sports . “We are here to help and the staff are trying to chip in but a decision has to be made so we can have the same resources as other clubs.

“When I say that they say I have to wait and see.”

The champions put Arsenal to the sword early at the Emirates, Kevin de Bruyne scoring twice and setting up a goal for Raheem Sterling as the hosts lost for the fifth time in the league this season.

"It shows the quality Manchester City have in their side,” said Ljungberg. “Kevin de Bruyne showed his quality. We had worked on our structure and we had five against two but they still managed to score.

"They are the champions. I was proud of our boys. When you look at the age of the side that finished it was not an old side.

Pep Guardiola has explained the qualities that Phil Foden will bring to his Man City side against Arsenal.


Foden will make his first Premier League start of the season at the Emirates on Sunday as City look to get back on track following last weekend's loss to Manchester United.

City sit in third place in the league and are 17 points off pace setters Liverpool at the top of the table, so claiming the three points against the Gunners is vital.

It hasn't been helped by the fact that captain David Silva has once again been ruled out after picking up a knock in the derby but, following his goal against Dinamo Zagreb in midweek, Foden has been given the nod.

"Because I want what he has," Guardiola told Sky Sports when asked why Foden is staring the game.

"Between the lines, how he attacks in the final third and his intensity on and without the ball, because he played so good last game we decide to play with him."

It's also Foden's first start away from home in the league and the 19-year-old has admitted he has a few nerves.

"A little bit yeah obviously,it's good to have a few nerves," he said.

"It's the hardest league in the world so to get a start today means everything.

"I have to keep proving myself every time I play, whether it's 10 minutes or the full game, I have to show that I can play at this level and that's what I try and do.

Mesut Ozil's has shown his frustration after kicking his gloves along the touchline following his substitution in Arsenal's defeat to Manchester City.


The German was taken off by interim manager Freddie Ljungberg on 59 minutes, with Emile Smith-Rowe his replacement.

But the 31-year-old then proceeded to punt his gloves along the sideline and kick the turf before brushing by hands proffered by the Arsenal interim manager and Per Mertesacker.


The Arsenal crowd's reaction to the substitution was one of more boos that eventually grew a lot louder as Ozil made his way off at a leisurely pace.

The boos did not however draw the same reaction from the German as Granit Xhaka when he was booed off in Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace in October.

But it added further frustration to a disappointing season so far for the former Germany international.

The first half substitution of Kelechi Iheanacho yesterday in Leicester City 1-1 draw against Norwich City came as a surprise to many judging by the fact that the Nigerian has impressed in the last two games of the team.


Iheanacho was yanked off in the 38 minutes of the game, few minutes after he caused a storm by refusing to pass the ball back to Norwich who were expecting him to observe the Fair Play rule as they were the team that kicked the ball out for Iheanacho’s teammate to receive medical attention.

The Nigerian was yanked off after Leicester drew level courtesy of an own goal by Tim Krul and his substitution has led to various insinuations on why coach Brendan Rodgers pulled him out. Some said it was probably related to his refusal to respect the fair play rule.

Rodgers have however said it was a tactical move and nothing related to the incident although he voiced his unhappiness that the Nigerian didn’t pass the ball back to Norwich City but instead attacked and almost got a chance on goal before he was fouled.

Liverpool Football Club announce that head coach Jurgen Klopp has agreed a contract extension with the club.

Assistant managers Peter Krawietz and Pepijn Lijnders have also agreed deals to continue working collaboratively alongside Klopp.

The deal comes after four hugely successful years in charge of Liverpool for the 52-year-old and will ensure the long-term foundations for the team’s – and indeed club’s – development will continue well into the next decade.

Klopp was initially appointed as Liverpool manager on October 8, 2015.

During his first campaign at Anfield, Liverpool reached the finals of both the League Cup and Europa League, the latter after a memorable run in the tournament, but narrowly lost on both occasions.

In 2016-17, Klopp navigated the Reds back into the Champions League for the first time since 2014, with a top-four finish secured with a final day victory over Middlesbrough at Anfield.

The club marked their return to Europe’s premier competition the following term by storming their way to the final in Kiev, though there was heartbreak after a 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Ukrainian capital.

Nevertheless, Klopp and Liverpool regrouped and, in 2018-19, the 52-year-old guided the club to their sixth European Cup as the Reds lifted the Champions League after a 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur on an unforgettable night in Madrid.

On the domestic front, the team produced a remarkable season in the Premier League, losing just one match and racking up a point tally of 97 – the best in the club’s history – narrowly missing out on the crown by a solitary point to Manchester City.

Arsenal and former Germany international Mesut Ozil has expressed his delight by the renaming of a Ghanaian youth club after him.


A post on social media shows a gathering of excited kids clad in Arsenal jerseys, all with the player's name written on their backs.

Also among the gathering is his agent Erkut Sogut.

"Abiriw Ozil Football Club. Nice to have a football club named after me in the Eastern Regional town of Abiriw in Ghana. Glad to see you all smiling in the @arsenal & #M1Ö shirts. #YaGunnersYa," Ozil tweeted on Tuesday.

The club then, in appreciation, renamed the outfit to Abiriw Ozil FC.

"I'm a deliverer of his message, I'm here for him [Ozil] because he can't be here so I'm a messenger for him. He gave me his word to do this with Daniel [Akowuah] together," Sogut said during the presentation, according to Ghana Guardian.

"So we are here to deliver his message, to share with the kids, the young ones, give them vision and dreams to follow them, work hard and hopefully achieve them."

Paris St-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe has been warned to "respect the decisions of the coach" by German manager Thomas Tuchel after the forward visibly showed his displeasure upon being substituted in the recent Ligue 1 clash against Montpelllier.

Mbappe was swapped for Eric Choupo-Moting close to the end of the 90 minutes with the result of the game beyond doubt (1-3) in Montpellier. "He has a special mindset. When you've won trophies and have his talent, you don't want to be substituted but he has to respect my decisions and show respect for the incoming player", stated Tuchel speaking ahead of the PSG-Galatasaray Champions League clash in Paris.

Arsenal have launched a new retro apparel collection in association with adidas Originals, which includes a throwback to their 'bruised banana' kit of the early 90s.

The famous yellow away jersey, worn for two years between 1991-93, is part of the collection alongside sweaters and tracksuits which recognise the vintage era of clothing from the 1990s.

And the Gunners have called on players past and present to feature in the photo and video shoot for the launch - Ian Wright, Nigel Winterburn and David Seaman all feature, as do Alexandre Lacazette, Hector Bellerin and David Luiz.

France renew contract with World Cup winning coach Didier Deschamps until 2022.


Deschamps, who was appointed back in July of 2012 and had a deal until the end of the European Championship next summer, has penned two and a half additional years until the end of 2022.

Deschamps, who led Les Bleus to World Cup success in 2018 and captained the 1998 winners on home soil and the Euro 2000 championship as a player, will have served a full decade as coach if he sees out his new contract.

Progress has been steady for France under Deschamps, with World Cup success following dramatic qualification for the 2014 edition that eventually saw a quarterfinal finish, and then a painful defeat to Portugal in the Euro 2016 final.

Deschamps, who has coached Monaco, Juventus and Marseille at club level, is only the third man to taste World Cup glory as both player and coach after Mario Zagallo and Franz Beckenbauer. Only the German and the Frenchman achieved the feat as captain.

France will be looking to add the European crown next summer and have been drawn in the same group as holders Portugal and 2014 world champions Germany.

Portuguese legend, Cristiano Ronaldo, has made public his support for British boxer, Anthony Joshua over Andy Ruiz Jr ahead of their ‘Clash on the Dunes’ tonight.

The Juventus forward says he is “team Anthony Joshua” while Sylvester Stallone is in total support of the less fancied boxer of pair portraying Rocky Balboa.



Ronaldo told World Boxing News: “Good luck Joshua. I’m team AJ.”

While Stallone stated: “Nothing against Anthony Joshua because I think he is excellent. I have to go with the underdog. That’s my life.”

A number of other major stars have weighed in their opinion on who they in support of to emerge victorious ahead the ‘Clash on the Dunes’.

Footballer, Mario Goetze said: “I think Anthony Joshua is going to win the rematch. He probably prepared himself very well to fight Ruiz again to seek revenge. It is definitely going to be a great and exciting fight, I can’t wait.”

Metta Peace said, “Hmm, it’s difficult. First time, I gave Ruiz a 20 percent chance to win and with that 20% he actually won. This time, it’s really tough.

“I can’t pick because I love both boxers. Good luck to both Joshua and Ruiz.”

Bernard Hopkins said, “Joshua needs to win impressively to prove that the first fight was a fluke. I can see him getting a unanimous decision but that would almost feel like a loss. He needs to be impressive. To me, this fight feels like Lennox Lewis vs. Hasim Rahman 2. Anthony Joshua needs to channel his Lennox Lewis with a big, impressive win.”

Frank Lampard was left less than impressed by the "sloppiness" of his Chelsea side during a 3-1 defeat at Everton.


Having secured a standing inside the Premier League’s top four and seen a transfer ban lifted, the mood among the travelling party from Stamford Bridge was buoyant heading into a trip to Merseyside.

Chelsea were, however, sent back to west London with their tail between their legs as Duncan Ferguson enjoyed a dream start to his reign as Everton’s interim boss.

The hosts opened the scoring inside five minutes on Saturday, with two goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin ultimately seeing them to a morale-boosting success.

Lampard admitted afterwards that his side, who have earned plenty of plaudits this season, were well short of their best and made life far too easy for the Toffees.

He told BT Sport: "We gave them three goals.

"I suppose the first goal will be seen as a good goal from their point of view but we know Richarlison’s good in the air, he scores a lot of goals and we didn’t deal with it.

"Then when you give Everton that goal to hang on to, we gave ourselves a problem.


"We didn’t create enough chances and we didn’t want to shoot enough, we dribble into their box and we try and beat someone else. We need to shoot more.

"And then the other two goals were just really poor from our point of view.

"You dominate a game with possession, you play a team that play with a lot of fighting spirit in the moment when they’re fighting for their interim manager and for themselves and we’ve got to do more.

"I think we matched them on the work rate. Work rate is one thing, I expect us to match everyone in this league on that, but sometimes physical contact is another.

"So if you’re not going to win headers or balls that bounce down and you’re not going to go through the ball and the man a little bit then at places like Goodison, especially, it’s going to be really hard to come and win."

Chelsea will be in a position to bolster their ranks again in January, with a two-window embargo having been cut in half, and Lampard admits that they still have much to learn.

An exciting young side has enjoyed plenty of highs in 2019-20, but a disappointing showing at Goodison has given them food for thought.

Lampard added: "We can’t defend like that.

"If there is evidence in a game, in one little package, that shows how far we still need to go, I think it was today.

"We got in their box so many times and score one goal in the game. They get in our box a few times, but through our own sloppiness they scored."

Sadio Mane has been named Liverpool's Standard Chartered Player of the Month for November.


The No.10 continued his fine form throughout the month, scoring three times while starting five of the Reds’ six fixtures in the Premier League and Champions League.

And that was sufficient for Mane to receive the most votes in our poll on Liverpoolfc.com, ahead of second-placed Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk in third.

“For sure I am happy to win it and, like I always said, I’m here trying to be my best all the time and it’s an honour for me. It has been a great few weeks for me and my teammates so I think we just need to keep on going,” the forward told Liverpoolfc.com, upon being presented with the award at Melwood.

It seems Freddie Ljungberg is out of the running for the Arsenal job after poor results against Norwich and Brighton as fans already set up 'Freddie Out' banners to express their thoughts.
