Arsenal fans were left fuming with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when he left the field – despite his side chasing a goal against Brighton.


The striker vanished for a few minutes as the Gunners attempted to secure a timely equaliser in front of bemused home supporters.

Adam Webster put the visitors ahead after 36 minutes before Alexandre Lacazette bagged an equaliser in Freddie Ljunberg’s second game.


However, the Swede made it two games without a win as Neil Maupay pounced in the 80th minute to secure all three points for the visitors.

Gunners caretaker boss Freddie Ljungberg confirmed after the game that Aubameyang needed a toilet break.

The Swede said: "I actually didn’t even notice he went off, I just saw him come back on after he’d been off for a couple of minutes.

"When you need to go, you need to go."

Aubameyang’s vanishing act also had fans talking.

Arsenal coach Per Mertesacker was seen in a heated exchange with Mesut Ozil at the end of last night's defeat at Brighton.

The loss means Arsenal are on their worst run of form for 42 YEARS and the German pair were clearly not happy about it.

The defeat means the Gunners have not won in nine and the last time they went ten without a win was way back in March 1977.

Goals from Adam Webster and Neal Maupay either side of Alexandre Lacazette's equaliser meant the North Londoners slip to tenth in the table.

BREAKING: Everton manager Marco Silva is sacked after 5-2 loss to Liverpool

Everton have officially sacked manager Marco Silva after Wednesday night's humiliating defeat against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.


Silva, who joined the club in May 2018, was on borrowed time after a run of form which has seen the Toffees win just once in their last six Premier League games.

The loss on Wednesday saw Everton drop into the relegation zone and that was clearly the final straw for the board at Goodison Park who have decided to dispense of Silva's services heading into the busy festive period.


Everton have won just four of their 15 Premier League matches this season, losing nine, but the manner in which they were torn apart by their neighbours on Wednesday suggested Silva's reign was beyond repair.


Marcel Brands, the Director of Football, and Alexander Ryazantsev, the Chief Financial Officer, were angrily gesticulating in the Directors' Box at Anfield while fans left early as they watched Everton fall to another defeat across Stanley Park.

Silva has followed former Everton manager Ronald Koeman, who was sacked after a 5-2 defeat to Arsenal in October 2017, out the door after an embarrassing loss.

Today's decision by the club finally puts Silva out of his misery following weeks of intense speculation about his future.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho believes Manchester United were "clever" in winning fouls and "pretending injuries" during their 2-1 win on Wednesday.


"We started bad, they started well," Mourinho told beIN Sports.

"They scored the first goal, could have scored the second and for the first 30 minutes they were not just better than us, they were much better than us. For the last 15 minutes [of the first half] the story was different.

"I thought the second half we'd be back to normality and normality was to have control of the game but when you concede a goal like we did it's difficult.

"They took a few steps back, started to block low and they were clever in the way they were getting fouls and pretending injuries and controlling and then still dangerous on the counterattack.

Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi was crowned the first-ever player to win six Ballon d’Or trophy at a ceremony which took place in Paris on Monday night (Dec,2).



Before the event, Messi and his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo who both dominated the Ballon d’Or for a decade between 2008 and 2017, were on five each before the Barcelona superstar broke the tie yesterday.



In a new interview, Messi revealed that he was hurt when Cristiano Ronaldo joined him on five Ballon d’Or triumphs, claiming that the Portuguese will be experiencing similar emotions after he failed to show up at the 2019 Ballon d'Or' ceremony.



“On the one hand, I enjoyed having five and being the only one,” Messi told France Football. 'When Cristiano moved level, I admit that it hurt me a bit. I was no longer alone at the top. But it made sense, although it was good when I was alone at five.

Acute leukaemia forced Ikeme to retire from football several years earlier than he would have liked.

His cancer battle robbed him of the chance to be at the birth of his second daughter, Maya, as he moved to Manchester to undergo intense chemotherapy treatment.

Given just a 30 per cent chance to live, many tears were shed by the former Wolves goalkeeper, his family and his friends.

Ikeme – diagnosed in 2017 after returning abnormal results from a routine pre-season check-up – admits he thought he was going to die.

But in June of last year, he was told he was in complete remission.

And, speaking at Molineux, the home of the club he was with for more than half of his life, he feels fit and healthy as a father-of-two – to Mila and Maya – and a fiancé – having popped the question to Saba in the summer.

Things are pretty normal now for Ikeme, and he loves it.

He does not feel slighted by having to fight the cruel condition.

He is releasing a book on the journey, and the title, Why Not Me?, is emblematic of Ikeme’s inspiring outlook.

Leukaemia changed his life, no doubt, but Ikeme reflects on his footballing career with fondness and relishes the simpler things these days.

He never took the love of his family for granted. It is extra special now, though.

“I was always really grateful anyway. Most people will tell you that I’m not a flashy sort of guy, I’m quite down to earth,” said Ikeme, who made more than 200 appearances for Wolves and won two promotions.

“I’m always really grateful, but it just makes you appreciate things more on a different level.

“It makes you appreciate time with your family.

“That’s the main thing now. It gives me purpose of time because when I was playing, football takes your life over.

“That’s one thing my family didn’t have with me – time.

“So, now, I appreciate everything 20,000 times more than I did do anyway.

“I appreciate time with my friends and time with my loved ones – moments together, the hugs and kisses from my daughters.

“Even though they felt like the best-ever before, they feel even better now!”

Ikeme, of course, is still wary of the risk of infection – the cancer depleted his immune system – but over the past several months, going out in busy places is something he has grown more comfortable with.

So much so, he has started going to Wolves games more frequently.

And after playing for the club since the age of 14 – albeit with a few loan spells away in there – Ikeme likes the simplicity of being a fan.

“I think last year was a year of me coming back and getting back on my feet,” he said.

“This season, I’ve watched more games and come to more games.

“I think last year I was always a bit cautious with coming because my immune system was still really low.

“It was always a case of come – but stay safe. I was always a bit wary.

“Now, I can just come and enjoy the game. I came to the Villa game and it was nice to just be a fan. I enjoy it.

“It sounds strange, but I enjoy just being a normal fan and supporting Wolves.

“I’m at that point now where I’m arguing with people, fans from other clubs, when they’re saying they’ve got this player, I’m saying ‘well, he’s not Ruben Neves!’ I’m that person now.

“It’s nice to be on the other side of it.”

So, what does Ikeme make of Nuno Espirito Santo’s team, which still has Matt Doherty, Conor Coady and Romain Saiss in it, but is largely different to the one he played in a few seasons ago?

“It’s incredible. Even from the Championship season, going up, I think a lot changed in that year,” said Ikeme.

“It’s almost unrecognisable. They created a perfect environment for Wolves to be successful – top to bottom.

“It’s amazing to see. It’s pushed the club to a different level, and it’s exciting, isn’t it?

“It’s exciting as a Wolves fan because there hasn’t always been this moment. It’s incredible that people are talking about Wolves as a club that’s going places. It’s nice to enjoy the journey.”

Ikeme was born in Sutton Coldfield and raised in Birmingham to a white mother and black father – and, unfortunately, the family did receive racist abuse.

He was steadfast, though, and went on to achieve his footballing dream. He played for Villa as a kid but did not like the seriousness of it all.


Following a few years playing with friends at junior level, he was later picked up by Wolves – and he never looked back.
As well as being part of the Championship-winning squad of 2008/09 and a mainstay in the League One champions of 2013/14, Ikeme went on to gain international recognition.

He qualified for Nigeria through his father and represented the Super Eagles 10 times. Had it not been for leukaemia, he would have went to the World Cup with them last year.

And despite the disappointment of missing out on that, Ikeme feels lucky to have had such a playing career.

“If anyone had offered it me when I was kid growing up, I don’t think I would’ve believed you,” he said.

“It was something I wanted to do, but I wouldn’t have believed it was something I could do.

“I’m not acting like I’m from a different age, but social media wasn’t a thing back then. You only saw footballers on Match of the Day. It seemed like a different world to what I was living in.

“Even when I came in full-time at Wolves, I would’ve snapped your hand off if you said I’d have the career I had.

“I don’t look back and think what I missed out on, I look back and think about what I had.

‘Grateful’

“I’m really grateful for how everything panned out.

“To play that many league games – it was always important for me to have a long-term club.

“I’d been on loan a few times, but I’d been at the same club since I was 14. That meant a lot to me.

“I’d been at Wolves for half of my life. It felt special to me. I felt a part of Wolves, not just playing for them. I felt an integral part of the club as a whole, so that was really important to me.

“And representing Nigeria was massive for me, such a powerful experience.

“You’re representing a country, it’s surreal. It was something that felt more deep-rooted as I knew it would make my family so proud.”

Since Ikeme had to call it a day, Wolves’ keepers have refused to take the No.1 shirt out of respect to him.

But Ikeme, who says both have touched him with their support, is more than happy for Patricio to start wearing No.1 now.

Ikeme says that with a wide smile on his face, and he is quite happy to talk about what having cancer was like.

He has left no stone unturned in his new book, Why Not Me?, too.

Seeing his story on paper, at first, was a difficult experience. Those memories which had been cast away to one side and locked away came flooding back.

But, in the end, it is has been an uplifting and cathartic experience.

Ikeme was in and out of hospital as he battled leukaemia

“It’s been strange, really, a bit tough at times,” said Ikeme.

“There were some things that I’d not forgot, but just not spoken about – put to one side.

“It was tough, especially when you’ve got it on paper. As soon as it went on paper and I was reading through bits, talking about how I was dealing with it emotionally at the time, it brought back memories of what I went through.

“At the same time, it was quite therapeutic, talking about my experience, what I was going through, how I felt at the time, how it has changed me, and what I’ve learned.

“It was quite fulfilling as well and something I actually enjoyed doing in the end.”

Doing the book – which will be serialised in the Express & Star next week – with freelance journalist and former Wolves head of media Paul Berry, has helped Ikeme mentally.

And he is making strides physically as he prepares for a mammoth charity bike ride next year.

‘Normal’

“I’m feeling good. I’m just trying to get on with life as normal,” said Ikeme.

“Things are starting to settle down in my life now.

“I’m feeling relatively fit – not fit enough to play football, but I’m fitter.

“I’m training for the cycle ride and just enjoying life, enjoying my time with my family.”

Ikeme will be cycling a whopping 562 miles in six days across England in aid of Race Against Blood Cancer.

The challenge, which takes place in May, will begin at Middlesbrough and, aptly, finish at Molineux.

And he is on a mission to raise awareness that there are not enough stem cell donors from minority groups.

“It’s a charity close to me at the minute as cancer affects a lot of people. This is to do with the stem cell register,” said Ikeme.

“There’s not enough donors from ethnic minorities. If you’re white, you’ve got a 70 to 80 per cent chance of finding a donor.

“From an ethnic minority, it goes down to 10 to 20 per cent. I’m doing a cycle in May, 560 miles, to raise awareness and money, and do a few more donor drives to boost the numbers in the register.

“I was fortunate that I didn’t need it, but if I had, it would’ve been a struggle for me to find a donor. It’s something that’s close to my heart.

“When something is going through that, it’d be even more stress trying to find a donor.

“It’s not always easy, generally, but from an ethnic minority it is difficult, so I want to help raise awareness and create a bigger donor list.

“You never know when someone might need it – you might need it. It’s really important I try to awareness, as stem cell donors, it’s not as well-known as giving blood. And it is quite simple to do.”

Ikeme thought leukaemia was a death sentence but, two years later, Ikeme is thinking about the next step.

He has been renovating properties for the past six months or so, doing something which has always been an interest of his.

He is also thinking about getting back into football. The door is always open for him at Wolves, and Ikeme likes the idea of returning to the club in a coaching or mentoring capacity, although not just yet.

Out of Darkness Cometh Light is a phrase closely associated with Wolves – and it certainly applies to Ikeme.

He had some words for anyone who is experiencing trouble, whether that is cancer or any other illness, too.

“It’s difficult to have one message, but I had to accept what was going on. That really helped me deal with the matter,” said Ikeme.

“I wasn’t trying to run away from having cancer, it was just accepting what had happened.

“Trying to have a positive mindset really helped me push through the tough times.

“Having that positive mindframe, trying to be as positive as possible in bad circumstances, really helped me.

“I think it could really help anyone going through any sort of trouble.”

Ikeme added: “Your mind is the most powerful thing you’ve got when you put it to good use.”

Arsenal fans sent under-fire Unai Emery and the board a clear message this evening as thousands stayed away for 2-1 home loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.



Emery claimed ahead of the game that all players and backroom staff support him amid a dire run of results, telling reporters: "I feel the club, everyone responsible in that area is backing me. Really I appreciate it a lot."

However, the swathes of empty seats is another damning indictment on fans' unhappiness with Emery in charge, especially on a night where qualification for the Europa League knockout stages was on the line.

The official 'tickets sold' figure was 49,419 but the number of those in seats inside the group could have been as low are half that figure.

Arsenal have enjoyed relatively strong crowds in the Europa League, with 60,195 tickets sold for their match against Vitoria Guimaraes and 58,725 for Standard Liege.

A spokesperson for the Arsenal ­Supporters' Trust said earlier on Thursday: “Hands are tied with the ban on [travelling Frankfurt] fans and Arsenal unable to open the ticket exchange. We expect a significantly lower attendance and this shows the unhappiness amongst the fanbase.”

The figure supplied by Arsenal was not a record low, as some predicted, with Arsenal's previously official lowest attendance at the Emirates standing at 44,064 for the Carabao Cup tie against Doncaster Rovers in September 2017.

The ­unofficial lowest attendance was believed to be against BATE Borisov in December 2017, when around 30,000 turned up despite tickets sold being at 54,648. Thursday night may have attracted fewer.

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has broken his silence on his sacking in a statement released by the LMA.


Pochettino's five-year stint in north London came to an end last week Tuesday, with Jose Mourinho unveiled as his successor less than 24 hours later.

The popular Argentinian, who was denied the chance to say goodbye to his players in person after his sudden sacking, has now spoken for the first time.

He wrote: “I would like to thank Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy for giving me the opportunity to be part of Tottenham Hotspur’s history.

Manchester United's travelling squad ahead of their Europa League fixture against Astana on Thursday night has been revealed.



Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named a largely inexperienced group of players for the match, with ten players potentially in line to make their first-team debut.

Dylan Levitt, Largie Ramazani and Ethan Laird are among the youngsters called up to the squad for the match, with Teden Mengi and DiShon Bernard also named.

Max Taylor has been included in the first-team squad just over 12 months after starting chemotherapy treatment for cancer, while Ethan Galbraith, Arnau Puigmal, Matej Kovar and D'Mani Bughail-Mellor have also travelled.

The inclusion of Levitt is of little surprise considering his recent form at youth level. The 18-year-old joined the first team for training over the weekend and has been included in three senior Wales squads by manager Ryan Giggs.

Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins rejected $1.5 million deal to play in Saudi Arabia due to oil-rich kingdom.

The 35-year-old who played for English clubs Newcastle United and Birmingham City has been searching for a new club since returned from a torn muscle fiber injury he picked up at his last club in Chinese Super League Shanghai Shenhua in May 2018.

Popular Nollywood Actor, Saidi Balogun, has lost his aged mother in the early hours of today.

The actor, who broke the news to a news agency said she died this morning and will be buried today according to Islamic rites.

A furious Arsenal fan threw away his season ticket on air after the Gunners' struggled to draw against relegation-threatened Southampton on Saturday.


Arsenal were headed for an embarrassing defeat at the Emirates on Saturday against struggling Southampton - and it took until the sixth minute of added time for Alexandre Lacazette to come to the rescue with an equalizer.

And it was too much for a fan, who could be seen throwing his season ticket away as he launched a furious tirade littered with four-letter words while being interviewed by Arsenal Fan TV.

Beginning the interview by holding his season ticket in front of him, the raging fan blasted: "This is my season ticket you know, do you know how much I paid for this s**t? This is my f**king season ticket."

He is seen throwing it into the crowd behind him without a second look, repeatedly saying, "I don't need it" before adding "It's a f**king joke".

The interviewer then urges him to pick up his season ticket, to which the fan replies: "Forget my season ticket, forget this team.

A former England striker of Nigerian descent, John Fashanu has revealed that he still receives N5m monthly as pension from the English Football Association.

The former Wimbledon striker who made this known on Tuesday in Abuja was explaining why it is becoming increasingly difficult to convince players with Nigerian roots to dump their adopted countries.

Saying Nigeria must put in place attractive welfare packages for all former players of the national team, Fashanu expressed support for players like Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori who have decided to play for England and not Nigeria, their country of origin.

“Till today, I still get my benefits, my pensions. I get N5m monthly as pensions for being an ex-footballer in England and I am now in my 50s.

“Tammy knows why he hasn’t played for the Super Eagles and it’s because there is more financial benefits playing for England, there is more glory and less wahala.

“Why do we ask the boy to play for Nigeria and torture him? We need to step up. Tammy is a massive miss for Nigeria. Nobody went to London to talk to him and explain to him the benefits of playing for his motherland.

Mourinho talks to the media for the first time as Tottenham manager.


He revealed he doesn't need players and will not sign any player for Tottheham in the January window.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho said : "The best gift for me. I don't need players. I am happy with the ones I have. I just need more time with them. I know them well from playing against them, but you never know them well enough."

The former Chlessa boss revealed his new name, says he would like to be called, "The Humble one".

Captain of the senior national team of Nigeria Ahmed Musa has decided to pay the tuition fee of hundred students at Skyline University Kano after he was named as ambassador to the university.


The 26 year old became the first sportsman to be named an ambassador by the school based in the state where he made his mark ‎as a teenager playing for Nigeria Professional Football League ( NPFL) side Kano Pillars.

In reaction to the gesture by the school, Musa announced on his instagram handle that he will be sponsoring hundred students to school in the institution as a believer in the importance of education in rebuilding Nigeria.

" I am a great believer in the importance of education hence my excitement in joining this great team to promote the vision of becoming anything you want to be in life as long as you can dream it", he posted on Instagram.

" So, I am pleased to let you know that I would be sponsoring 100 students at this university (Skyline University). Yes! 100. Details to follow shortly ", he concluded in the post written on Wednesday evening.

The cost of sponsoring a student till graduation at the school is worth 5 million Naira in tuition fee and Musa plans to bear the cost of it all for a hundred students as his way of giving back to the society.

Already he is involved in several charity works, one of which is the popular sharing of food items, cash and provision of free medical services whenever he is in Nigeria for holidays. A practice he started since he was with Russian side CSKA Moscow.

Now playing for Saudi Arabia side Al-Nassr, Musa reportedly earns $270,000‎ a week, a huge increase from what he was earning at English Premier League side Leicester City and also makes him the highest earning Nigerian footballer.

So far he hasn't enjoyed the best of season in Saudi Arabia with injuries limiting to just few games, and that has also cost him his spot in the senior national team of Nigeria as he began his role as substantive captain of the team by sitting on the bench in the last two games of the team.

Musa played as a substitute in the 2-1 win over Benin Republic and also in the 4-2 win over Lesotho in the recent AFCON 2021 Qualifiers but according to coach Gernot Rohr is largely due to the fact that he is just returning from injury.

In Musa's absence the trio of Samuel Chukwueze, Samuel Kalu and Victor Osimhen have form a deadly combination in attack that produced four of the six goals Nigeria scored in their last two games. Moses Simon has also impressed when played in place of the three players mentioned above. Despite that Rohr insist that Musa's spot in the team is not under threat.

" He (Musa) is our captain so we have to treat him as the leader. He is not at the best level to start games but everybody knows his quality and what he brings to the team. We are hopeful that very soon he will reach full fitness and play a role in helping us achieve our set targets for the year", Rohr said.
