MTN at it again giving free airtime, just dial *606# like u wanna borrow credit, then press 3 in the option menu. if u are not given, then try again.... I actually tried 4times before I was given #1300.

I kno Dr. Laolu ogunkunle personally while I was undergraduate, he is very popular amongst faculty of science student, well known for his tolerant personality towards students. if truly he slapped the student as claimed, then I am sure something serious must hav led to that; perhaps the student was initially rude to him while he ask him question. CAUTION ON ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AND EXPIRED TYRES.

Following the unfortunate demise of the minister of state for labour and productivity, Mr James Ocholi, SAN his wife, son and driver yesterday in a road traffic accident as a result of a burst tyre, I consider it expedient to put up this piece to raise the consciousness of our populace to the issue of expired tyres and the risk thereof.

I called a driver yesterday and asked, "how many years does a tyre stay before it expires"?

He looked at me like an alien from Mars, an expression that seemed to ask in awe, "does a tyre ever expire"?

Yet he's been driving professionally for over 15 years!

Every tyre has an expiry date after which it is supposed to be replaced , lest it risks a blow-out!

The life span of a tyre from the date of manufacture is four years.

Now, how do you know the date a tyre was manufactured?

It is written on the tyre as four digits!

The first two digits represent the week, while the last two is the year of manufacture.

Please note that the four digits stand alone, not added to any alphabet. Some manufacturers place the asterics sign (*) before and after the four digits , while others simply encycle it.

So, 1612 means that the tyre was manufactured on the 16th week ( last week of April ) in the year 2012. The tyre will therefore expire on the 16th week of 2016.

Behold,you may therefore buy a "brand new" tyre which has since EXPIRED or just about to expire!

Some manufacturers however don't state the date of manufacture on their tyres, breaching the estacode thereof. This is common among the "Made in China" brands.

Buying a tyre devoid of manufacturing date is a kin to swallowing a pill without an expiry date. I think it's even worse, because the expired drug can only hurt you, while a burst tyre puts the life of ALL the occupants of the vehicle in jeopardy!

So now that you know, take the pain, bend down, check the date of manufacture of your tyre and do the needful.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE A TYRE BLOWOUT

In the event of the unfortunate death of Nigeria's minister of state for labour due to an accident occasioned by a tyre blowout and the fact that in Nigeria now-a-days, we have many untrained drivers, it has become pertinent for me to write this.

There are 6 simple steps to take within a maximum of 2 minutes and you will be safe, these by the grace of God I have been familiar with for decades. They are as follow:

(1) DON'T PANIC in the event of a blowout, calm yourself down fast because your car will start misbehaving and you need to take charge.

(2) Hold FIRMLY to your steering wheel with both hand, NO VIGOROUS TURNING, as you concentrate on the road and your mirrors, in seconds study the movement pattern of the car. Your car will naturally swerve to the direction of the burst tyre.

(3) Gradually take off your foot from the accelerator, DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO PRESS THE BRAKES, IF YOU DO, YOU HAVE A 95% CHANCE OF A SOMERSAULT. The car will decelerate gradually while you concentrate on the road to avoid collision with any other road user.

(4) Disengage the gears of the car by shifting to neutral (N) as you still maintain a firm grip on the sheering wheel and put your eyes on the road.

(5) After a while depending on your initial speed, your car comes to a speed less than 60km/h when it is now safe to GRADUALLY apply the brakes and navigate to the side walk

(6) Ultimately, it is now safe to put the car to a complete stop and turn off the engine. You have just saved yourself and passengers from untimely death.

NOTE:
Of course, everyone in the car will be in a panic mode BUT this is NOT THE TIME TO LISTEN TO THEM, it is TIME TO CONCENTRATE.
