If South west is always leading in something like this, that's abnormal.

The enormity of the number of SW professors only is enough for anybody to know that SW is greatly enlightened.

According to the NUC website which can be accessed seamlessly by any interested researcher, there is now a shift and a takeover by the Northerners as the Igbos are pushed off the sidewalk of Professorship into the 3rd position in the rank of who has the higher number of Professors between the two educational gladiators.

SW still continues to be the stallion and champion of Education in Nigeria as the number of their Professors is almost triple that of the Igbos according to the Directory of full Professors in Nigerian Universities.
Kudos to the gallant Igbos just as the Northerners are also heralded into the second position of Professorial hierarchy in Nigeria.

Before the Civil War, the Igbo occupied most of the government offices because they had the number for the most educated. Then appointments into public offices was on merit, not the nepotism we see today.

Awolowo in a bid to catch up with the Igbo in education had to declare free education in the southwest.

Despite the several years of government-induced setbacks, the Igbo are topping the ranks again.

Surely the Igbo are undefeated.

Continue to deceive yourself. There has never been anytime Igbos caught up with Yoruba in education and free education was introduced before 1962.

Name some of your doctors and lawyers or technocrats (they are unknown except for few who didn't drop out to do petty trading in the SW) if Yorubas ones known, important and active will not surpass them.

SW has 3 times the number of professors the SE has.

I'm now getting annoyed with trainee economists like you blabbing on about export. Just how do you export when you produce with diesel unless you are exporting high end goods with a fat profit margin.
The naira is currently severely undervalued and the government is trying to help it find it's real value while the saboteurs who are plenty are trying to scuttle things.
Tinubu and the Cbn can only work with what they've got. I don't even know why Tinubu cares because nigerians are very bad people anyway.
When he removed subsidy, they complained, when he put in subsidy again to mitigate after naira lost value, they complained again that he has not removed subsidy.
He has not brought back subsidy the way it was before. This one is temporary and it is done by all nations of the world when there is an abnormal hike that affects the citizenry.
The temporary subsidy will be off very soon.

This list once again proofs the fact that Nigeria needs to break up. Lagos is Yoruba land and nature has favoured the Yoruba for Lagos to have been the country's capital for 70 long years. Lagos (and to some extent, Abuja) will always overshadow other states in the country in becoming first choice destinations for the largest indigenous, foreign and multinational businesses.
If the Igbos had gotten Biafra in 1967, most of the companies in this list will have their headquarters in Enugu with Igbo people as CEOs and GMDs. All these big banks that have hundreds of branches in the East would have built their headquarters in Enugu to continue to render their services in Biafra. As we speak, Shell's headquarter in Nigeria is in Lagos but they are building the largest gas plant in Imo. If Imo state was in Biafra, Shell would also have to build a new headquarter either in Imo or Enugu and will employ lots of Igbos into critical management positions. So I say congratulations to Lagos for being favoured by nature. If Port Harcourt was the capital of Nigeria for 70 years, nobody for sabi Lagos today.
Your problem is that you dream too much.
If you were given Biafra, what will you do?
You were given regionalism, what did you do?You were still backward.
I don't want to be harsh, but what will you do differently.

Even abroad, you are still doing very badly in business.
It is only the Yorubas that are flying the Nigerian flag in business abroad.

Talk is cheap.
Where is your evidence.
Clustering in a space doesn't mean that you have more impact on the economy.
Igbos,Hausas,Igalas,Binis etc all contribute to Lagos economy but the greatest contributors are the Yorubas.
In small and medium scale businesses,Yorubas control all building materials,,,,Iron rods, steel, planks, woods, blocks, corrugated sheets, paint, windows, aluminium, doors, cement, sand etc.....sector,sea foods sector, fuel sector and petrol stations sectors, fairly used vehicles sector etc.

Yorubas dominate media...tv,radio,news tabloids,education..universities,colleges etc.
They control real estates which is a billionaire field sector.

Yorubas dominate ICT....Glo,Mainone,Esusu,Calendly,digital bananas etc.

Yorubas dominate law,medicine,engineering etc.

Yorubas dominate industries...Bigi,Honeywell,Vitafoam,Tejufoam,Flour Mills (large shares),Doyin group ETC.

The list is almost endless when you look at the Arts,Music,Movies,Fashion etc.

Politics › Dangote Remains Africa’s Richest as Forbes Unveils 20 Africa’s Richest 2024. by Ofemannnu(op): 10:56am On Jan 23, 2024
Otedola returns to ranking, named among continent’s wealthiest.

Bayo Akinloye

President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has retained his position as the richest person in Africa, with a net worth of $13.9 billion, in the 2024 Forbes list of 20 Africa’s Richest billionaires released yesterday.

According to Forbes, the fortunes of Africa’s wealthiest people rebounded slightly in the past 12 months, reversing the decline in their fortunes from a year ago, though, they were still off their all-time highs. The New Jersey-based media outfit pointed out that the 20 billionaires on the 2024 Forbes list of Africa’s Richest were worth a combined $82.4 billion, up $900 million from last year’s $81.5 billion

Executive Chairman of Geregu Power Plc and a Non-Executive Director FBN Holdings, Mr. Femi Otedola, was named among the 20 richest persons in Africa. Otedola was listed as the 19th richest person in Africa with net worth of $1.1 billion

Specifically, Forbes attributed the improvement in the net worth of those listed to the return of Otedola, whom, it stressed, last appeared on the Forbes Africa list in 2017, when he held a controlling stake in fuel distributor, Forte Oil.

Forbes stated, “Otedola phased out his oil investments during a government push to privatise the country’s energy business in 2013, using a Forte subsidiary to purchase Geregu, a public power generation plant.

“He owned about 90 per cent of Geregu when it was listed on the Nigerian exchange’s Main Board in 2022, but has since sold shares to institutional investors, which include Afreximbank’s Fund for Export Development in Africa and the State Grid Corporation of China.

“His 73 per cent stake in Geregu is worth more than $850 million, about three-quarters of his $1.1 billion fortune, which puts him at No. 20 on the list.

“After taking Otedola’s comeback into account, Africa’s billionaires dipped slightly, but still fared better than the decline of four per cent last year, when African markets faded in sync with equity values around the world.

“This year, African equities joined a late-year global rally, with the S&P All Africa index rising 10 per cent in the final two months of 2023 but still ended down more than 9% in the 12 months through January 8, 2024.”

Dangote was closely followed by Johann Rupert and Family from South Africa, with net worth of $10.1 billion; another South African businessman, Nicky Oppenheimer and his family, with net worth of $9.4 billion; Nassef Sawiris with net worth of $8.7 billion; Nigeria’s Mike Adenuga with net worth of $6.9 billion; and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Rabiu, with net worth of $5.9 billion, in that order.

This year, South Africa claimed six spots on the ranking, followed by Egypt with five, and Nigeria with four. Algeria, Tanzania and Zimbabwe, each have one billionaire on the list, while Morocco has two.

Forbes stated that Africa “remains one of the world’s toughest places to build – and hold onto – a billion-dollar fortune, as global investors remain leery of its stock exchanges, businesses struggle against strained economies, poor infrastructure and volatile exchange rates, while changing political winds can make, boost or bust private fortunes”.

It quoted Head of Macro Strategy at asset manager, FIM Partners, Charles Robertson, to have noted that entrepreneurs often faced limited access to capital and populations with little disposable income to invest in new companies or the stock market.

A turbulent 2023 also made African equities less attractive for foreign investors.

Robertson added, “You’ve got two negatives for investors. Weakening domestic [currencies], which is pushing up inflation, and tax rises, which is hurting the companies they’re investing in.”

He added, “Central banks have been hiking rates as well, so you’ve had big rate hikes and currency weakness and tax rises, all at once. And if there was any chance that mix wasn’t going to deter all foreign investors, then throw in multiple coups happening, and it just created a very nasty storm.

“That environment favours entrenched family fortunes or those with close ties to government that continue to dominate the ranks of Africa’s richest. Nigeria’s Alike Dangote, whose fortune rose $400 million to $13.9 billion, claimed the ranking’s number one spot for the 13th year in a row, despite the political uncertainty following the February presidential election and a devaluation of the naira in 2023 that offset the rising share price of Dangote Cement.

“The biggest decline on this year’s list belongs to Algerian industrial magnate Issad Rebrab, who was barred by a court in May from exercising any commercial or management duties at his conglomerate Cevital.”

It is Igboland and Igbos who cover negative news or are accustomed to these negativities.

SBM Intelligence, also known as SB- Morgen Intelligence, is a market intelligence and geopolitical research firm based in Lagos [1], Nigeria [2], primarily focusing on Africa [3]. The concept for SBM Intelligence was conceived by Nigerian journalist Cheta Nwanze, who identified data gaps that needed addressing. In 2013, he, along with Chinedu Ozordi and Stanley Ikechukwu, founded SBM Intelligence.

The firm offers research, consulting, security monitoring, predictive analysis, business intelligence, and risk advisory services to clients across various sectors. Notably, SBM Intelligence has conducted critical surveys on food inflation using the Jollof Rice Index [4] and has highlighted the cost of kidnapping [5] in Nigeria.

Since its establishment, SBM Intelligence has provided consulting services to government entities, civil society, private institutions, multilateral agencies, and Big Four consultants. These services aim to offer in-depth insights into West Africa, assisting in policy guidance, investment decisions, intervention planning, as....
