flokii: The same thing Amaechi did to secure Chinese loans for refurbished locomotives and railway.. they shrouded the whole thing in secrecy and were even signing agreement documents written in Chinese language. If it's true that agents of the Nigerian government signed loan agreement without reading the document thoroughly; then we have serious problems in our hands. To sign document written in Chinese language is worse than signing without reading. Anything could be coined in such unknown language and it's not worth signing. The good news however is that the tale isn't true. Our government officials won't do that because even after their regime, the incoming government of the future will not keep quiet about it |

Family › Re: Why Do People Improve Themselves After A Divorce But Not During The Marriage? by Ofiadiegwu: 12:52pm On Nov 13, 2021 |
obembet: At 23 I got married immediately after my first degree. Had my first kid at 24, got a master's degree in my area of study, yet without a job. My ex was doing well in his business and he carried all the financial responsibilities of our home while I shoulder all the manual work; ranging from cooking, laundry, cleaning, buying groceries, making sure that every bills are paid, school runs, etc. All he does is to provide the money to carry all of those. I'm all- must -be -tidy kind of person so I made sure to maintain that.
I'll make sure I keep the house clean, prepare his favorite meals which I do by following the meal time table cos he loves three different meals for each day. Most times he will come back with a different meal to be prepared for him after I must have made dinner. This must be accompanied with fruits or nuts to crack, extract, slice and serve. As this continued I became perplex and may complain but he never listened or appreciated all my efforts.
As years come by our population increased and I begged him to buy a washing machine. This is a no go area as he believes it makes one lazy. After much begging and no compliance for about two years I stopped washing his main clothes, but washed only his inner wears. I saved some money and got myself one. He was happy I did so and gave me 25% of the amount I bought it. I later learnt that that was a bribe to start washing his clothes again. All my married life I never had a full house help. His relatives will come, stay for some time and leave. Even while they're still around I prefer to do some things myself for some reasons.
Now this is my round the clock non paid job from from year to year. I'll wake up by 4:00 am to prepare children's snacks or meal for school, wake everyone up by 5:00 am for morning prayers, bath the children and at the same time have clothes rolling in the machine while breakfast sits on fire simultaneously. By 7:15 am I'm with the children on the road to school. Keeps them at school and gets back home to continue the outstanding works. I may come back to meet ex still sleeping or brushing his teeth. I will serve breakfast, help him choose his day wear and most times look for one document or car keys.
I tried to get a teaching job which can help me continue my “rat race” at home. None of them lasted for more than four months, reasons I couldn't figure out till today cos I believe I'm very good at that.
By the time I could say “ehee, time to rest” it's already 3 to 4 pm, time to get the children back from school. Preparing dinner, helping in homework, correcting complains from teachers if there's any, bathing and feeding them. Sometimes I still find time to play and tell stories with the kids. I buy everybody's wears including ex's, especially during festive periods. I guess that's the only time I have to get new things for myself. It never bothered me cos I'm happy putting smiles in the faces of people around me. I'm always preparing home-made groceries cos I'm good at most of them.
I could remember vividly a friend advising me on improving in my outward appearance which I gave little attention to.
By the time I'll retire to bed, it's already 11 or 12:00 midnight. And so it continues.
I never received any form of appreciation; either in kind or in cash. And to worsen it all, he became so abusive; verbally, physically, emotionally and would complain and blame me in every misfortune of his life. Life was so terrible living with him. Yet, I did not complain until he pushed me out and finally left.
Most times we focus all our energy into building our homes, that is wonderful, thereby neglecting ourselves which should come first, it's not being selfish. I celebrate every member of my family every year but I was never celebrated for the thirteen years we lived together. After reading a book, “what kids need most in a mom” by a retired white nurse; Patricia Standforth, I started changing my status but things have started going sour in my marriage and I was kicked out by hubby. He got a nullification note from the church, refused me access to the children, etc. Though I'm working towards getting a civil divorce from the court.
It's been two years now and alot of people could not believe it when they meet me, as a mother of five who's so young looking, energetic and sophisticated. I've got a lot of space and time to travel, learn new things, meet new friends and recently working towards getting an MBA.
And more importantly, I wouldn't want to be seen where I was left.
Edited : Obembet Sorry please, for the raw deal from the ex. All men aren't like that. Sometimes, good wifes get married to wrong husbands. Your future is bright, because you have moved on. NB: we have not heard from your ex, he may also have a legitimate complaint. But still, we will always celebrate good mothers/wives |

VaselineCrew: People don’t have to get run over if they are coordinated. For instance, they could radio in to another squad ahead to block the road so that the offenders have no where to go. They could also deploy road spikes and motorbikes to maneuver in and out of traffic.
Why must we wait till a future time before we can have police pull people over? Why? Why??
If I were president, that is like the first thing I’d do, I’d pay for so many ads on radio, tv, internet, and all sensitizing road users on what to do when getting pulled over by police as this will be relatively new for Nigerians.
Again, why must we wait in 2021, to have ordinary police pull people over, when other countries are going to space? I can feel your concern and pain. But when you becomes president, you must build more prison houses (correctional centres) before you start the aggressive traffic control in your mind. Note, by the time you give traffic offenders the chase of their life and station squards to block the road ahead; more innocent people will die because these hit and run drivers will divert into any available Street and even run on anticlockwise movement on the roads, killing more people. SOLUTION: People must be sensitized to stop taking drugs and drive with their sanity intact. Drugs of different kinds are responsible for much of the inhuman acts in Nigeria |

Even in the small things like traffic control, there is total lawlessness allowed not to talk of bigger things.
Have you driven in Lagos? Do you see how driving laws are broken and yet have you ever seen a police squad pull people over like abroad? I’m not talking about police stopping someone at checkpoint, I’m talking about sirens on in a squad car chase a pull over. None!
This country needs real leaders, not the demons we have everywhere posing as leaders. You made a point. But it mustn't remain that way. We cannot continue as a lawless country. On police square to chase traffic offenders: that one has to be latter in the future. You know heat-and -run is prevalent in Lagos even while not been chased by police. When traffic offenders are given a chase, scores of people will be ran over and the people will blame the police for it |

Other criminals might also organize themselves and get their own share of the national cake that way and on, and on, and on... Please Nigerians, let's be law abiding. Period. Christianity Etc › Re: Is Fasting Without Prayer A Meaningless Exercise? by Ofiadiegwu: 2:44pm On Nov 07, 2021 |
jesusjnr2020: Is Fasting Without Prayer A Meaningless Exercise?
Some would be quick to respond in the affirmative, because they believe fasting must go with prayer, otherwise it would be a mere hunger strike.
But let's see what the Bible has to say about fasting to know if they have a case or not.
Deuteronomy 8:3 (KJV)
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
Now the above is a well known passage in the Bible that speaks about fasting, and it was actually from this passage that Jesus quote to the devil concerning fasting emanated from, when He was being tempted by the devil to eat, during His forty days and forty nights fast in the wilderness when He was said to be tempted of the devil. Matthew 4:4
From the passage, it could be observed that fasting itself has a purpose, and that purpose is that man shall not live by bread alone but by the Word of God. That is because bread is the food of the flesh but God's Word is the food of the spirit, and it's the Spirit that quickens and give eternal life, the flesh profits nothing but death. So the purpose of fasting is make us live by the Word of God which gives life.
But how does man live by God's Word? It is by keeping it, therefore that is the primary purpose of fasting and what it's meant to achieve in our lives.
Hence since fasting cannot be said to be a meaningless exercise even if it is without prayer, because it has a purpose if its own, and more so if that purpose is achieved by fasting alone.
For instance, if someone fasts so as not to sin or to overcome temptation just as Jesus did, and he achieves that purpose even without praying, it cannot be said to be a meaningless exercise or just hunger strike because the purpose of fasting which is the obedience of God's Word had been achieved.
It's all about the purpose, so even if someone doesn't just fasts but also prays, but the purpose of fasting which is that someone doesn't fall into temptation but obeys God's Word, which also happens to be the same purpose as that of prayer, was not achieved, the effort could be said to be meaningless and a failed exercise, because the purpose of fasting and prayer was not achieved in the person's life.
Matthew 26:41 (KJV)
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
It is often said that when purpose is unknown, abuse is inevitable, this is the reason why despite the fact that many fast and pray, the purpose of fasting and prayer is usually defeated and made of no effect in their lives, because they know not the purpose of fasting and prayer.
Take Nigeria as a case study. Many Nigerians pray and fast, yet there is so much iniquity in the land, because many of those who pray and fast don't keep God's Word which ought to be the purpose of fasting and praying, so regardless, their prayer and fasting is meaningless and has no real effect in their lives.
Hence it is very important for those who pray and fast to know the purpose of prayer and fasting, which is the obedience of God's Word, so that the purpose of prayer and fasting is not defeated but fully achieved in their lives.
God bless. Your arguement is understood. You have made an important point of fasting being a way to quicken the spirit. I concur to that. However, classical argument that a person can fast and complete without praying is impossible. This is because: HOW DO YOU BEGIN TO FAST? AS A CHRISTIAN, YOU BEGIN BY DECIDING TO FAST. The beginning of fasting is PRAYER. You tell God your motive and the duration. You specifically mention to God in prayers that you are fasting and for ....purposes. When your fasting time elapses, you pray to conclude. I doubt how you do yours. Still, your good points in this post is noted. |
