I was prompted to script this piece when I read yesterday from the comment of certain moniker here called amarabae, that the problem the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) put themselves is being orchestrated by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA /Doctors) .

Inasmuch as the veracity of such claim by such an anonymous online user remains inconsequential, I still wish to educate the unsuspecting public on certain things of paramount and topical significance.

Before I continue, I thought it worthwhile to introduce myself, so that you take cognizance of my biases, if any. I am NOT a medical doctor, at least for now, thus, suffer not yourself in trying to tag this as "espirit des corps" game.

Now, it is no longer news that JoHESu is on strike for reasons bordering on salary and hospital hierarchy.

ON SALARY:

I wouldn't comment on that because that is the business of the the govt. But let it be on record that if someone should complain of salary, it is the doctors. Nigerian Doctors cannot talk in the presence of their colleagues practicing abroad. They are the most underpaid persons with relation to the value offered. You can imagine the amount Canadian doctors are paid that made them to protest last time. An average consultant doctor in canada receives about 500,000 (about 180 million naira) dollars yearly. A consultant in nigeria is struggling with 10million naira yearly. Hence the reason 90% of Nigerian doctors are jetting out of the country, with many on the way out also. Even the few that are staying, are doing so, due to some supplementation coming from private practice. Otherwise, with the rate at which other countries are ready to issue visa to doctors, Nigeria may soon run out of doctors.
The truth is everyone needs a salary increase because cost of goods have increased, starting from teachers. However, the issue of salary still remains their business with the govt, but note that if your salary is increased to that of a doctor, the doctors will seek their own increase. It is natural to act that way.

ON HOSPITAL HIERARCHY

I heard they want to be given consultant nurse, consultant physiotherapist, consultant Med Lab Scientist etc.

People need to understand something. The hospital is structured in such a way that every treatment /instruction must be directed from the Consultant Physician or Consultant Surgeon. No patient receives anything in the hospital unless the doctor says so. The reason is not far-fetched. It is in the best interest of the patient, so that he/she is not malhandled. Imagine when we introduce a consultant nurse, a doctor will give his own instructions and the nurse will also like to execute his own consultancy expertise by giving his own instructions, at the end, the patient, is at the receiving end. The practice is that the doctor is and must be the head of the patient management team.

Most nurses are clamoring for consultancy because of the knowledge they acquire by virtue of working in hospital for years. They feel they can now challenge the doctor.

I will give an analogy: In Catholic church, we have the parish priest, we have the catechist. By virtue of working at the alter for about 10years, the catechist can comfortably celebrate the mass. Infact he can even celebrate more than the priest if given opportunity. He can also be more prayerful than the priest. But no matter the condition, the catechist can never celebrate mass or be equated to the priest simply because he can do what the priest can do if given the opportunity. There is formal way of becoming a priest, and it is open to everyone, thus, if the catechist wishes to be celebrating mass, he should simply enroll into the seminary, and boom, he becomes a priest. That is the formality.

Nurse vs Nurse Dichotomy

There are two types of nurses, we have those that attended school of nursing(Registered Nurse. RN). we also have those that are studying nursing in university (B. Sc). The truth is that the BSc holders are paid far higher than the RN holders. Why is it so? In terms of work, I need not tell you that, the RN holders are the ones that do the major suffering in the hospital, and JOHESu will not harmonize their salaries so that all nurses are paid parallel amount. But they want to be paid what doctors (mbbs) are paid. That's hypocrisy.


Medical Laboratory Scientists vs Medical Laboratory Technology

The way Medical lab scientist (Bsc) discriminate against the Med lab technologist (HND) is another case study. You and I know that those polytechnic guys are more practical oriented and cannot be equated with university counterparts. But yet, the Bsc holders still lord it over the HND holders. They claim superiority over them, and yet want equality with doctors. Another hypocrisy.


Med Lab Scientist vs Microbiologist.

I happened to study microbiology in my first degree. As a microbiologist, you cannot have a lab on your own. You must work under a med lab Scientist. Even when the knowledge base is the same among the two disciplines.

Last time on Facebook I saw some graduates of med lab from ABSU hanging stethoscope on their neck, calling themselves diagnostic doctors. Thats so laughable. And that has been the delusion that has been making them think they are equal with doctors. That you can see bacteria in urine in the lab does not make you diagnose a patient of infection. A doctor makes 95% of the diagnosis from history and physical examination, just right in the consultation room. The lab tests are to confirm diagnosis and also check for the other systems that the patient may not be complaining of. Also every med lab Scientist works under a Consultant Chemical pathologist, consultant micro biologist, consultant Histopathologist, or Consultant hematologist as the case may be.


The Way OUT

The truth is that, there should not be the need for all these fracas if everyone remains to his job description and prescription. There is already a job description for doctors, nurses, med lab Scientists etc. If you are not comfortable with the job you do, you can switch and follow the formality laid out for that profession. There shouldn't be need for being a nurse and wanting to do the job of a doctor, or being a doctor and wanting to do the job of a nurse.
A doctor needs a nurse, a nurse needs a doctor, a med lab Scientist needs a doctor and vice versa.

In addition to that, every job has a salary scale, most times the salary does not justify the work they do, but only justifies the time and process it took to get there. The people that take the highest salaries in Nigeria are the people that do nothing. They only go to offices to enjoy the AC and go home at the end of the day. When the month ends, they collect millions. Its unfortunate society has made it that way. Let us have a rethink, and be human. Everyone needs salary increase, starting from teachers to doctors to JOHESU (except our senators ***winks***). The problem is getting it right at the electoral polls.

The longest serving President of the Zimbabwe, Robert Gabriel Mugabe is reportedly dead, Daily Buzz SA can reveal.

Last night, it appeared that the Zimbabwean Godfather, Robert Gabriel Mugabe died after all frantic efforts to wake him up proved futile.

An autopsy will fully confirm the cause of death, but the best guess at the moment is a massive prostate cancer which he had been battling for a while now.

State officials have not yet released the name of his immediate heir but from the look of things his wife could probably assume his position temporary before proper arrangements are made.

Robert Gabriel Mugabe born 21 February 1924 was the longest serving President of Zimbabwe, serving since 22 December 1987.

As one of the leaders of the rebel groups in opposition to white minority rule, he was elected Prime Minister in 1980, serving in that office as head of the government, until 1987, when he became the country’s first executive head of state.

He had led the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU–PF) since 1975.

As of August 2016, he was the world’s oldest and one of the longest serving Head of State.

His 36-year rule has been characterised by gross human rights violations, resulting in him joining the world list of dictators.

Mugabe rose to prominence in the 1960s as the leader of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) during the conflict against the conservative white-minority government of Rhodesia.

Mugabe was a political prisoner in Rhodesia for more than 10 years between 1964 and 1974.

Upon release Mugabe, along with Edgar Tekere, immediately left Rhodesia with the assistance of Rekayi Tangwena in 1975 to launch the fight during the Rhodesian Bush War from bases in Mozambique.

At the end of the war in 1979, Mugabe emerged as a hero in the minds of many Africans.

He won the general elections of 1980 after calling for reconciliation between the former belligerents, including white Zimbabweans and rival political parties, and thereby became Prime Minister on Zimbabwe’s independence in April 1980.

A friend of mine attended this church (name withheld) where the pastor was demonstrating the Holy Spirit through his handkerchief and by blowing air.

An usher was called out

Pastor (to the unsuspecting congregation): Watch, I'm going to show you that the Holy Spirit is real. (He blows air on the usher, the usher falls). You see! You see!

Another usher calls a member (probably a first timer) to the altar. Pastor performs the same thing, member doesn't fall. Quickly, member is taken to the back where ushers are with him, while pastor continues to preach.
Member is brought back to the altar, pastor performs the same act, member falls.

Pastor blows air upon congregation. Many fall, my friend doesn't.

Magic. Why are you withholding the name of the church... I think that's why they are proliferating, because we hide their messes...its a pity.

One time i went to this church where they was praying and people was falling.. Some 'ushers' will come and scream in my ears. My eyes were closed, so i first thought t'were evil spirits screaming.. When i opened my eyes, lo and behold, t'was flesh and blood like me.

Then, they turned me around, pulled me in order to make me fall. I didn't. Then they started to kick my leg. I'm not lying. Seriously.. But i still didn't fall.

In the same church hall, i saw someone run out after an 'evil spirit' was cast outta him, and another woman being delivered of an 'evil spirit'. Till today, I'm still confused.

This is a true life story. Read and share:

It was on that fateful Friday night vigil, ds it was dawning the Saturday morning, that he decided to lay hands on us after an all night event that would be the last of its kind. As the laying of hands started; it was done one after another, then it reached my turn, I submitted myself for the baptism of the holy Ghost as those before me did.

Gently he placed his hands on my forehead, kicked off. Turning me 360° , and again and again. I was very conscious of the science behind the circling. I was calm as typical of me. At a point, my semicircular canals and saccules of the inner ear which is responsible for balance and posture became compromised, it can no longer determine my posture and I was suppose to fall down, but because I was who I am and also being cognisant of the physiology of the moment, I controlled the situation. He still pressed on. He wanted me to fall probably to furnish his egoistic intent as a powerful man of God, or whatever...

However, at a point, I wished to be free. I was done. But he doesn't wanna let me be. Probably I haven't touched the ground like others. Hmmm...what do I do? I meditated unto myself. An idea just came: massage his ego and be free. So I had to pretend to fall by squatting gently on the ground. And I was free.

But why do you have to do this? You are already a prayerful man. Somebody must not fall on the ground before we know your spiritual capability. It is a natural phenomenon for one to fall when he rotates around too much because your inner ear fluid will be rotating as well and you will feel that the world is turning around. This is the mechanism many pastors use which I have confirmed and it is mockery of the Holy Ghost. Those involved should desist. Thanks

AN OPEN LETTER TO REV FATHER EJIKE MBAKA

It has been long I had wanted to write this letter. But I did not because of certain views of people I consulted. But now, it is pertinent that I do it.

Dear Father, permit me to write this letter to you to express my dissatisfaction with you and your position in the Nigeria of today. But before I go on, I sincerely pray that I do not offend the Holy Ghost by trying to write to His anointed in a way that may not be too wonderful. I am only writing within context of events of recent times and the possible or probable inference that any right thinking human being could make out of it.

Father, on december 31st, 2014, hell was let loose because of GEJ's "incompetence" via your towering FROM GOODLUCK TO BADLUCK message to Nigerians. It is needless to dwell much on that, because it is no more news, and as well, it is history.

But Father, there are certain things you said in your message that have refused to vacate my cerebrum. Father, you said and I quote:

I am speaking from the oracle of the Holy Ghost.

Father you also added:

Most Nigerian Pastors who are closer to GEJ have merchandised their anointing.

It is worthy of note to state here that I am not a politician nor a GEJ sympathizer. I am only quoting what Fr. Mbaka said. That is all. Father, your worries ( message from the oracle of the Holy Ghost) were that Goodluck came to power and our Yar Adua died; that GEJ came to power and our oil poured away; that GEJ cannot curtail the menace of Boko haram; and that GEJ cannot provide job for the teeming Nigerian youths. And if I may summarize it, GEJ killed our SECURITY SYSTEM AND OUR ECONOMY.

Father, I must commend you for summoning such temerity and sagacity to confront a sitting president of a country like Nigeria. Such intrepid stand is very rare and can only emanate from a man of integrity who has not merchandised his anointing. We need men and women of God who can speak out in times like this. Thank you father for that job.

They are the modern day pastors and priests. Read my post again, I made it clear that you can pay to them also but not exclusively for them only; which is what many preach.
