PoliticsCouncil Of State Meeting: Why Buhari Should Apologise To Nigerians by OgaInnocent(op): 8:53pm On Oct 21, 2015
Today, the 21st day of October 2015, the president of the federal republic of Nigeria presided over the might council of state meeting. A meeting that its level of significance in the Unity of Nigeria can never be overemphasized. This
meeting is supposed to be attended by all former presidents and heads of states, past chief justices of the Federation, the 36 states incumbent governors as well as the leaders of the National Assembly.

Notable faces absent at president Buhari's first council of state meeting after becoming Nigeria's No. 1 citizen on may 29, 2015; were the likes of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Good luck Jonathan and Bukola Saraki, the embattled Nigerian senate president.

I suppose GEJ absence was necessitated by his global assignment in Tanzania, where he led the commonwealth international observers to Tanzania.

Saraki's case ought to be glaring. He needs rest after the Code of Conduct 'wahala' today. 'Body no be firewood!'
I can't say why OBJ was absent for now.

Now to the Nitty-gritty of the whole phenomena. Last year, 2014, President Buhari was absent in a crucial meeting of this nature when it was being presided by His predecessor, GEJ.
https://www.naij.com/58430.htmlhtml
The reason for his abscondment is unknown to me, but I learnt that it was due to the injustice Done to him which has not been redressed.

https://www.nairaland.com/1987691/injustice-done-buhari-not-redressed

That is not all, earlier this year, it was also reported that president Buhari broke protocol at the council of state meeting which he managed to attend.
It was learnt that it is customary for president Buhari to wait and walk in with President Jonathan.
Rather than going into the holding room, Buhari ignored the advice of the Protocol Officers and went into session with the APC governors who had arrived as a team to gang-up for the subject of discussion.
He bluntly refused to go to the holding room, despite repeated efforts by the senate president, David Mark; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Principal Secretary, Hassan Tukur that he was meant to walk in with the President and other past heads of state on the red carpet

http://firstafricanews.ng/index.php?dbs=openlist&s=14375

Fast forward to today, Buhari is now the president of the federal republic of Nigeria. He is now the presiding officer. How would Mr president feel if he is been visited with the same attitude he showered on Jonathan. How would Mr president feel if an elder statesman starts following his footsteps during the Jonathan era.

I am sure he would not feel good as far as he still remains a man with conscience which he is. That is why I suppose Mr president should be humble enough to regret his actions in those days, now that he is the presiding officer of council of state meetings at least for the next four years. He must not apologise to Nigerians, but doing it before the council of elders would go a long way in strenghtning the relationships he would have with them.

Lesson: Beware of how you treat people you meet on your way up the ladder, because you would definitely meet them on your way down.

The measure you give is the measure you shall receive.

You cannot run away from the consequences of your choice.

Always be good!!!

There comes a time in the life of a man when he must be a man and stand up and speak the truth, even when others are too timid and intimidated to do so.

By the grace of God I have today reached that point and I will bare my mind to the sickly tyrant. And after I have had my say I shall gallantly take my stand and with faith proclaim: let the demons of hell be invoked and conjured up and let them come forth and do their very worse, for they shall not pass and neither shall they prevail.

And so it shall be as I stand on these holy words and boldly proclaim, o wicked tyrant, I stand and I fight against you. I stand and I fight in the name of the Living God. I stand and I fight in the name of Harrow and Cambridge. I stand and I fight in the name of Kelly and London. I stand and I fight as the son of my father. I stand and I fight as a proud and strong African. I stand and I fight as a resilient and irresistible Nigerian. I stand and I fight as a man of courage. I stand and I fight as a beautiful and irrepressible black man.

stand and I fight as a man of faith, a Christian who knows that his God is mighty and can never be defeated. We are what we believe ourselves to be. I am unbeatable, irrepressible and indestructible. I am a covenant child of the Living God, a prince of the Faith and a son of the Kingdom. My head may be bloodied but it is not bowed. I do not know the meaning of fear and I have learnt to master the affliction of pain. I do not flinch.

I stand and I fight with my whole being: with my body, with my spirit and with my soul. I stand and I fight to win and not to lose. I stand and I fight, tall and proud and by the power of the God that I serve, I shall always prevail. I stand and I fight because children of Israel are never alone. I stand and I fight because all tyrants must be resisted. I stand and I fight because God’s word says “He shall cut off the spirit of princes” and “He is terrible to the kings of the earth”.

And so to the tyrant, I have just this to say: you can detain me, you can malign me, you can arrest me and you can misrepresent me. You can persecute me, you can subjugate me, you can lie about me and you can scatter my household and my loved ones. You can vilify me, you can torment me, you can jeer at me and you can mock me. You can sack my associates, you can query my loyalists and you can cause my friends to flee the land.

You can humiliate those who stand for me, you can pour scorn on those who love me, you can threaten those who speak for me and you can bribe those who work for me. You can plan, you can scheme, you can assign and you can direct and delegate destruction at my doorsteps and at my gates. You can intimidate and torment and you can use your kingly power to abuse and to destroy. You can do all these things yet ultimately you will fail because, like all beastly tyrants, you have forgotten the power of God in all your subterranean wickedness and in all your sinister schemes.

Let him plot and plan both night and day. Let him invoke strange spirits, consult the stars, torture, detain, defame, destroy, charge, frame, kill and maim. Let him “cry havoc” and let slip the horrific dogs of war. Let him break and let him crush the very spirit of the people. Let him enslave the whole of our nation and cower us all into silence and submission. Let him unleash his kinsmen and cattle-rearers on the southern part of our country. Let him engender the philosophy of Boko Haram. Let him turn us into cowards and quislings, let him plunge us into darkness and let him bewitch our feeble souls.

Holding on to power at all costs? That is nothing new, Saul tried it and failed. Agag tried it and failed. Herod tried it and failed. Pharaoh tried it and failed and so did Nero and Caligula and Jezebel and countless others.

For the God that stopped them is still alive and continues to rule in the affairs of men and He alone forges the destiny of nations. And in all this know one thing: that you cannot break me, you cannot kill me, you cannot defeat me and you cannot destroy me. This is because I am anointed for greatness and I am truly blessed by He who sits above the circles of the earth and by He who created all that is. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places and yea I have a goodly heritage. My future has been established and decreed by the oracles of God. It has been inscribed in the stars and it has been written in the books of heaven. It cannot be altered or aborted by you or your invocations and spells and your wicked ways.

And yet perhaps you should know another: that your end has already been decreed by the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob and it is only a matter of time before it suddenly comes. For my soul stands defiant against you. I defy you with all my being. My contempt for you is resounding, for you are nothing but sickness and weakness and failure and deceit and emptiness. You are nothing but the darkness that seeks the darkness, both you and the Amalekite foundation from which you come.

My God has spoken and on His word I stand. My spirit is lifted and it is filled with joy and strength. I stand and I fight because my victory is assured. I stand and I fight because I despise the shame. I stand and I fight because there is a greater tomorrow. I stand and I fight because I will never bow before this beastly and deceitful tyrant. I stand and I fight because I am who I am. I stand and I fight because my God is “a man of war”.

I stand and I fight because the Lord has steeled my body, my spirit and my soul. I stand and I fight because the fewer the number, the greater the share of honour. I stand and I fight because King David stood and fought, and Gideon and Joshua and Jehu that went before him. So let the sickly tyrant rant and rave. Let him do his very worse. Let him, like Nero, play his fiddle whilst Rome burns and let him make merry in his wickedness and inglorious ways.

Yet in all his treacheries and schemings let him know one thing, that we are not shaken and neither are we moved. For even if he were to carve up our flesh and send our dismembered limbs to the four corners of the kingdom, our God is able to put us back together again and give us life, even more abundant. And even if he can kill our weak and worldly bodies, he cannot break our spirits and neither can he take our souls. For if our God can move mountains who and what is he?

We stand and we fight because the Lord is our defence and the Holy One of Israel is our king and our God. We stand and we fight because His word boldly asks, “who is this uncircumcised Philistine that has chosen to defy the armies of the Living God?” We stand and we fight because He goes on to affirm that “I have found David my servant and with my holy oil have I anointed him”. We stand and we fight because His holy word proclaims “who art thou o mountain before Zerrubabel? Thou shalt be made a plain”.

Too long. Cont'd here:

PoliticsSingle Account Saga - How Federal Government Can Help Nigerian Students by OgaInnocent(op): 9:13pm On Oct 20, 2015
First and foremost I wish to commend mr president for the single account saga for all federal institutions and parastatals. It is a perfectly wonderful step in the right direction. I would like to focus on the part of the Federal government owned institutions of higher learning. As far as I am concerned, that is the number one place this single account issue should be meticulously executed. The reason is not far-fetched.

Merely looking at the school fees receipt of a typical federal university in Nigeria, you will find out that education should be almost half-free in Nigeria. This is because what you see in the fees receipt does not in any way reflect what is on ground. You will also notice that some fees are paid twice - after paying it as part of the school fees, you still pay for it again when it comes up. It would not be fair to give any example here, as they abound.

But all I am after is that mr president should through the instrumentality of this single account creation harmonize the Nigerian school system, especially the Universities so that an ordinary Nigerian student can even train himself in the University. If Nigerian federal institutions should pay N20,000 only as school fees, it will not be too bad. Some federal Universities are paying as much as 70,000 as school fees, that is just school fees, plus other numerous levies here and there; and yet you don't see what you are paying for, thats the most painful part of it. Very importantly, some fees ought to be abolished. I am yet to understand the reason why one must pay to accept his admission that he paid to write the exams. What is the meaning of acceptance feeshuh

Secondly, it is very wrong to pay to check your result after you have paid to write the exam. In every exam there should be a result, and having written an exam, it is one's right to see his result. So the idea of buying scratch card to check the result of an exam you also paid to write is entirely off point. The federal government should should as a matter of paramount Urgency address this cankerworm which so many universities are using to extort students and prospective students.

There are other numerous examples, which time may not permit me. But I believe a word is suppose to be enough, because I am sure the federal Government is wise.
PoliticsThe World To Experience Total Darkness From November 15 To Nov 30 by OgaInnocent(op): 10:27pm On Sep 09, 2015
I HOPE IT'S NOT GOING TO LEAD TO THE END OF ALL!
The Earth will experience
15 days of total darkness between November 15
and November 29, 2015. The event, according to
NASA, hasn’t occurred in over 1 Million years.
Astronomers from NASA have indicated that the
world will remain in complete darkness starting
on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 3 a.m. and will
end on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 4:15 p.m.
According to officials, the ” November Black Out”
event will be caused by another astronomical
event between Venus and Jupiter.
Charles Bolden, who was appointed to head of
NASA by President Obama, issued a 1000 page
document explaining the event to the White
House.
According to the report, on October 26, 2015,
Venus and Jupiter will engage in a close
parallelism, only being separated by 1 degree.
Venus will pass to the southwest of Jupiter,
causing Venus to shine 10 times brighter than
Jupiter. The light from Venus will heat up the
gases on Jupiter causing a reaction.
The gaseous reaction will release an
unprecedented amount of Hydrogen into Space.
The Hydrogen gas will make contact with Earth’s
sun at approximately 2:50 a.m. The amass
amount of Hydrogen making contact with the sun
will cause a massive explosion on the Sun’s
surface. The explosions will cause the Sun’s
surface temperature to increase to 9,000 degrees
Kelvin in an instant.
The sun will then attempt to cease the explosions
by emitting heat from its core. The heat will
cause the Sun to dim to a bluish color. Once the
sun reaches the bluish color, it will take
approximately 14 days to restore its normal
surface temperature, returning its normal color to
the Red Giant.
While the sun is cooling the surface, the light from
the sun will be much dimmer. Because it takes
anywhere from 7 to 8 and a half minutes
depending on the Earth’s rotation for light from
the sun to hit Earth, people will not know the
event has happened until 2:58 a.m. on November
15th.
Some areas of the world may experience brief
moments of light for 7 to 8 minutes, but the Earth
will then go back to complete darkness until the
Sun’s surface temperature has been restored.

How Nigerian Universities Extort Admission Seekers

The rate of extortion inherent in Nigerian Universities today, is becoming too alarming. Our administrators of the Nigerian Universities have killed they system. That is why Nigerian educational standards keep deteriorating.
.
Let us start from JAMB. The candidates pay nothing less than 5,000 naira in the process of registering for JAMB. After that, they will transport themselves to and fro to the various CBT centres for the exam. Let's assume they spend a minimum of 1000 naira for their transport on JAMB day.
.
After writing the JAMB, they are now faced by the real money mongers, the extortionists - The Nigerian Universities, Polytechnics and the Colleges of education. As at 2012, I learnt that the National Universities' Commission gave Nigerian Universities the mandate not to task the candidates nothing more than 1000 for their Post-UTME application forms. But what do we see today. Some candidates are charged as much as 2000 for their post UTME applications. That is just to write the exam. I am not even talking of Universities only, Some polytechnics charge as much as 6000-7000 naira per candidate just to come and write a Post-UTME that 90% will not get the admissions ; that is after the student must have spent about 6000 in JAMB.
.
That is not all. The one that beats my imagination is the fact that candidates also pay to check results. This is pure fraud. Absolutely fraud by Nigerian Universities. How can one write an exam and you expect him or her still pay to see the result of an exam he also paid for. This is like a man that married a wife, and paid her bride price plus other things; then in the night, the wife starts asking him to pay before she can remove her dress. That is just the analogy! I don't really know where the Governments of this country are. They should rise up to this challenge and do something. Many schools charge as much as 1,000 for the result checker PINs. After spending about 6000 in JAMB, 2000 (at the least) for the post-UTME plus the transportation to the university, and then the risk; and now they will still pay to check results. Remember, the candidates are not still sure of getting admission. In fact, more than 80 % of those that spent the above amounts so far will not still get the admission.
.
After all these, instead of them giving the candidates the desired admission, they resort to Merit List and supplementary list saga. Instead of them to give anybody that merits the course, they will give just 50% merit and then advertise the remaining slots for candidates to come and buy supplementary admission forms. And they charge exhorbitantly for this. A certain Nigerian University charge as much as 10,000 for the shopping (supplementary) form. Yet the candidates is still not sure for this admission. Many people spend all these money and go home to wait for next year's JAMB. It is really pathetic and unfortunate.
.
A candidate that spent close to 15,000 naira before now is being charged 10,000 to be CONSIDERED for supplementary admission and we are talking of 25, 000 naira spent already; without talking about other miscellaneous expenses like registration, printing, photocopying, browsing etc. It is a pity!
.
Very unfortunately, After all these, comes Admission acceptance. The prospective student (not candidate now) will now have to pay to accept his admission. A certain Federal University charges 25,000 naira for for acceptance of admission. I reapeat, 25,000 for acceptance of admission. You paid to write JAMB, paid to check JAMB result, transport yourself, Pay to write post-UTME, Pay to check post-UTME result, pay for supplementary admission, pay for admission acceptance...before we can now start talking of school fees and accommodation, text books, feeding etc. God have mercy!<br/> .<br/> I hereby use this medium to call on our dear president, His excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari to extend his anti-corruption dragnet to our Universities. They have killed so many applicants. Infact, education is no longer interesting to so many Nigerians because of money. The extortion is too bewildering! And it looks as if nobody is talking! Please Buhari act and save souls!

THE MENACE OF EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE IN NIGERIA - AND WHY BUHARI SHOULD ACT FAST IN OUR EDUCATION SECTOR

Education is a process of teaching and learning to get knowledge and develop skills. Education is the key to success. Your success in life is debatable if you are not educated. But in Nigeria today, the standard of education has fallen to an uncontrollable level. There are many reasons behind this, and it is obvious to all. But for the sake of this book, let me review the evils of examination malpractice in Nigeria. Examination malpractice is a situation in which candidates for an examination are given, or take upon themselves, an undue benefit to gain easy success. It is an illegal way of passing an examination.

Examination malpractice has consistently remained a problem on Nigeria‘s educational system. No matter the level of the exam in Nigeria today, there must be certain degrees of examination malpractice. It is bad! And the worst part of it is that students in Nigeria today no longer think of reading, let alone attending lectures or classes. Examination malpractice has penetrated into the heads of the students to such an extent that reading are now mere theories to them. Serious reading has become boredom. It is no wonder therefore that academic certificates being issued to graduates in Nigeria are worthless and are regarded as mere ‘asambodo’. The sanctity of education and examination in Nigeria has been broken and violated.

How can a student preparing for an examination, instead of going through the pages of his or her book will be busy copping “trash” on pieces of papers to take into the examination hall. Some even enter the exam hall with textbooks. Others construct a form of drawer under their lockers where all those pieces of paper and textbooks are kept to be used inside the exam hall. Students who do such things are not reasonable, wasting their time and money on worthless things instead of learning to acquire the knowledge directly into their brains.
effects of examination malpractice in nigeria

Obviously, the issue of handset or mobile phones have contributed immensely to the growth of examination malpractice. A student will be inside the exam hall writing and another person (mercenary) is elsewhere solving the whole questions and sending them to the student through ‘SMS’. This is horrible!

A portion of the blame must be accorded to our teachers and examination supervisors. In fact, they are the founders of this immoral act, because they collect reasonable amounts of money from the students and connive with these examination cheats to have a field day in the hall. What of the cases of night examination? Only God knows what these universities that took their aptitude test in the night will release as the result. It was advertised that the aptitude test was aimed at bringing a long lasting solution to JAMB exam scam, but what do we have today? To pass your aptitude test and gain admission into the university is a monetary affair.
examination malpractice

This fall of academic standard of the Nigerian nation portend devastating dangers if not checked. Creativity and innovation is lacking in the modern day students of Nigeria. This must be due to the fact that there was no sanity in the process of academic or knowledge acquisition. They are thought little or nothing. Nigeria is lacking not only qualified but seasoned teachers and lecturers. Most of the lecturers we have today are so lazy that they cannot even give a good assessment to students. Most of them do not come to class for almost the whole semester; only to come a day and take attendance as the continuous assessment, just to indict the students who might have missed the class just for that day. But they, themselves, have been missing the class on many occasions before now. This is very unfair to the students. Most graduates today are pseudo-intellectuals. They do not stand their test of time. They are half-baked because there was no thoroughness in the process of assessment and certificate acquisition.
Indolence on the part of the students must not be forgotten, serious reading has gone with the wind. They attend parties; engage in examination malpractice, prostitution, drug addition, stealing, cultism and other nefarious activities practiced in school. The negative trend can also be found in employees engaging in jobs they are not suited for, since the certificate they claim to have was not merited.
examination malpractice
The solution to the Nigerian problem is not farfetched. We know our problem. To know a problem is half-way to solving it. Gone are the days when we emphasize and overemphasize on qualified teacher. To employ a teacher or lecturer on the ground of being ordinarily qualified should end. After all the qualification is based on the certificate which is the issue at stake. The activities of these teachers and lecturers in school must be meticulously supervised to ensure that none neither exceeds nor breaches his or her limits. The teachers on the other hand should be appropriately remunerated. Proper incentives necessary for learning such as the laboratory, the classrooms, should not lack. Strict supervision of exams and proper assessments should be encouraged at all levels of schooling. Any student who fails a promotion exam should be asked to repeat. Those who engage in cultism, prostitution, stealing and other juvenile vices should be expelled: I believe that the standard of education in Nigeria will upgrade if all those are implemented appropriately. The governments and other concerned institutions should take cognizance of all these shortfalls and salvage Nigeria from this dungeon of academic slumber, so that we can at least have a say educationally in the assembly of the world. May God help us.
