Politics / ONDO: Agony Of A Frustrated First Lady, Ondo PDP. by Ogbenitayo: 10:18pm On Jan 16, 2023
BETTY AKEREDOLU: AGONY OF A FRUSTRATED FIRST LADY.

By Kennedy Ikantu Peretei.

A viral audio supposedly emanating from Betty Akeredolu, wife of Ondo State Governor has not been disowned by the First Lady's media team, more than 12 hours after the social media space got over saturated with the sound bite.

Given Mrs Akeredolu's usual combativeness and aggression, one can only sympathise with her especially on the frustration she expressed in the 2minutes 39 seconds voice note.

The fact that, she personally planted the audio on a platform she assumed the recipient of the message was, made it all the more pitiable.

From the beginning to the end, Mrs Akeredolu appeared more like what in Nigerian parlance is referred to as "wailer", with one Mrs Olubunmi Ademosun who she accused of scheming to be Deputy Governor, if per chance, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu is unable to complete his tenure.

To start with, no human being is granted the ability to see tomorrow. In the words of Shakespeare, "death will come, when it will come", so nobody should be making any calculations based on the possibility of another's death. Because, indeed, we do not know who will go first.

Having said that, perhaps, it may be important to x-ray Mrs Akeredolu's apprehension, abuses and her final advice for Ademosun.

First, Betty is not sure that, the concoctions Ademosun is bringing for her husband from " fake" Pastors is the way to go. Her belief in God and Western medicine are unshakable, and that Aketi will be healed. He does not need Ademosun's intervention. Betty also issued a threat to deal with Ademosun, relying on her Igbo ancestry.
As far as Betty is concerned, Ademosun has nothing upstairs as to aspire to be Deputy Governor of Ondo State.

After advising Ademosun to leave Aketi alone, Betty dropped the bombshell" to go and enjoy her loot".

Mrs. Akeredolu is not just any woman. She is the wife of the Governor. For her to openly admit that an appointee of her husband's government looted Ondo State Treasury should not be dismissed with the wave of the hand.

Since Rotimi Akeredolu assumed office as Governor, his wife Betty, her son Babajide have been on a looting spree. Many people doubted this fact. Will they also doubt Betty's public confession of looting?

Mrs Olubunmi Ademosun is Special Adviser to the Governor on Intergovernmental Relations. She is also the Ondo State Liaison Officer in Abuja. She has offices both in Abuja and Akure. That, she is very powerful in the government of Akeredolu is not a matter for debate. There are so many persons who received Akeredolu's blessings based on Ademosun's recommendation. In a like manner, there are many who were denied party tickets for 2023 general election, simply because they are not in the good books of Ademosun.

Majority of those who suffered Ademosun's larger than life image with Akeredolu were very happy with Betty's outburst and that explained why the audio went viral.

It is an open secret that, the Governor and Ademosun are in very good terms. But the sense in which Betty is asking Ademosun to leave her husband alone was not captured in the audio. That is left for individuals to speculate. However, stopping short of crying, it can be safely assumed that Betty went public with this appeal, with the hope that, others will join her to "beg" Ademosun to leave Akeredolu alone.

But before l join in the begging, l want Mrs Akeredolu to help us with the figures as to Ademosun's looting. Because, it is not enough for her to leave Akeredolu alone, she must leave Ondo State Treasury alone, and she must also return what she has looted.

As a matter of fact, Betty and her son Babajide must also return what they have looted. Why did Betty wait till now before crying out for help?

Throughout history, there have been women, not married to Kings, yet, whose influence on the throne were awesome. Ehrengard Melusine von der Schulenburg, Duchess of Kendal (1667-1743) accompanied King George 1, from Hanover, when he became King. A lot of persons who wanted audience with the King spoke to Ehrengard first.

Before King Charles lll ascended the throne, the secret affair between Camila and Prince Charles almost crashed the British monarchy.

For me, Mrs Betty Akeredolu should direct her prayers to God Almighty who is owner of all the worlds, who has power of life and death over all His creatures. But he who comes to equity, must come with clean hands. Betty cannot call someone a looter, when she has been looting Ondo State blind.

2022: OODUA YOUTH COALITION TASK YOUTHS TO FORM A TRUSTWORTHY ALLIANCE TO CHALLENGE FOR LEADERSHIP.

Compliments!

It's with great sense of gratitude to God that We, the leadership of the Oodua Youth Coalition (OYC) wishes to congratulate our teeming members and the entire youth population in Nigeria at large on the successful completion of an eventful 2021 and transition to a new year of endless possibilities, 2022.

In the year 2021, pegging the standard of living of residents of Nigeria, economic development and growth, and security of lives and properties as an index to gauge the quality of leadership displayed by the current occupant of government in Nigeria, one will know that the country is in dire need of visionary leadership that will harness her full potential for growth and development.

While we as a youth organization advocate the take over of the country's leadership by progressive youth, we understand that power isn't served ala carte, it's on this basis that we enjoin progressive youths to close rank and present a viable alternative that the people can trust as we go into electioneering in the new year.

In the new year, the youth bloc must against the directionless rule of the current leadership show difference in ideology and vision as exemplified by the likes of Chief. Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikwe and a host of others.

The mission to rescue Nigeria from the claws on old generals predating on our common wealth must be at the front burner for the teeming youth.

Nigeria must survive.

Oodua Youth Coalition Berates Nigerian Army Over Unlawful Summon Of Ondo Lawyer

Rising from the patriotic and vigilant move of men of the Ondo State Security Network and the people of Okitipupa probing the rationale behind the influx of 42 Hausa/Fulani men into the community at this time and the swift response of the state government to the security breach, thee 32 Artillerty Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Okitipupa has summon an Ondo State Lawyer, Barrister Wale Odusola over claim that many Hausa/Fulani are occupying land belonging to the Okitipupa Army Barrack.

Barrister Wale Odusola as a citizen of Ondo and constituent of the affected area is an interested party in the security of his people, and as such have the locus to raised an alarm in the case of any observation that could pose threat to the peace of his people, most importantly considering the cloud of insecurity spread on us as a people. As no one will attempt to set the roof ablaze while he slumber, the learned silk is spot on.

The security apparatus in Nigeria has often call on well-meaning Nigerians and the citizenry to join in the fight against the spate of insecurity in the land by making available to them useful information, Barrister Odusola's Open letter to the 32 Artillery Brigade, Okitipupa falls in the range of one of such useful information that should be treated with rapt attention and professionalism, if for any reason the Army Find it imperative to summon the lawyer, they should know they lack the jurisdictional power to summon a private citizen and direct the task to an agency that have such power.

We make bold to say that the task of securing this country belongs to everyone, the Nigerian Army shouldn't vilify a private citizen for a patriotic gesture like that of Barrister Wale Odusola, at this perilous time in the history of our country.

Nigeria is no doubt in one of her most trying periods as we speak, the country is faced with issues of insecurity, economic downturn, unemployment, hyperinflation and so on. Top of which is the spate of insecurity spreading across the country like wildfire. It worthy to note that both the rich and poor are bearing the brunt of the incessant killings and kidnapping that is now the order of the day.

In all of these, the Federal government of Nigeria ably led by President Muhammad Buhari rather than harmonize all the resources in the arsenal of the country to fight and rescue the soul of the country from terrorists, it choose to plight the route of siding with a Minister with a track record of terrorists and extremist engagements.

The press release by Garba Shehu wherein the presidency described the allegations raised against the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, as a "cancel campaign" targeted at the Minister by those who want him out of office is the most irresponsible and useless of the many reckless pieces to have come from the presidency. The defense as faulty as it was was premised around the Minister's renouncement of his extremist belief and that some ICT companies are the ones sponsoring a smear campaign against the Minister. The question begging for answer is how amidst a highly contentious security situation, a country will trust the data of her population with a man who has been link with a renounced terrorist group in the world, Al-Qaeda and whose actions in the past justified his belief?. Before his appointment as a Minister, he served as DG of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), an ICT implementing arm of the Federal Ministry Of Communication of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. People who know the importance of classified information should understand why Nigeria is ranked third on the terrorism index.

The argument of Nigerians saying the defense what borne out of ethnic and religious agenda is justified by the stance of the presidency in the case of the erstwhile Minster of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, who throughout his travail did not have the support of his employer. A Yoruba Christian Minsiter from the Southwest didn't have the support of the presidency over NYSC certificate issue but a Northern Muslim Minister on a weighty allegation of terrorism does, isn't that an height of hypocrisy?

The Buhari government in all honesty is rubbing the fact that Nigeria is not one and the Northerners are more Nigerian than the other on our face, the agitation for self-determination is on the increase and gradually getting the support of the international communities. The government of the day is no doubt on a hidden mission, we must all braze up to stand for ourselves as the current realities project looming evil

PRESS RELEASE

With great distress, we show our sincere condolences to the deceased and the entire student populace.
However, the best of this is to ensure our great icons do not just pass away without ensuring lasting solution to the reoccurrence of such within the student community.

-The Students’ Union has met with all necessary stakeholders and a barricade foundation has been erected today to put a total stop to heavy duty trucks plying our road.
-The union has also issued a 24-hours ultimatum to the Ondo state Government to find a permanent solution to the issue of accidents in Akungba community.
-The union is working vigorously to ensure that the lives of everyone is safe as we can never afford to lose a “pin” to any accident whatsoever anymore.

However, we therefore demand the cessation of the students from the ongoing peaceful protest as some unidentified hoodlums have almost hijacked our agitations from us, which would develop into a great disarray.

Students should await proper and further directives on the ongoing agitations as all hands are on decks.
The proper forces have been mobilized to seriously curb anyone caught in the act of violence in the name of agitations.
It's strongly advisable that students leave the Streets so as to victoriously achieve our aims.

To cap it all, we make bold to reiterate that the Student’s Union wouldn't tolerate any attempt to infringe the Welfare of the vast Nigerian students from any quarter. We shall always do everything in our capacity to effect smile on your face and to uphold the Students' Union constitution.

PRESS RELEASE

AKEREDOLU'S BAN ON OPEN GRAZING IN ONDO STATE: A RIGHT STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

Following the rising cases of kidnappings, killings and endless attacks on unsuspecting victims by herdsmen on major highways across the SouthWest of Nigeria, the Oodua Youth Coalition (OYC) commend the brave decision of the Ondo state governor, Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to ban open grazing by cattle herders across the state and order the vacation of the state forest reserves by those inhabiting thereof.

While the spate of killings across the state calls for the attention of all stakeholders, we see the action of the governor as one step towards arresting the insecurity challenges ravaging the land. We see the pronouncement of the governor as one needed for our security agents to live up to their responsibilities by ensuring the security of lives and properties. It is also an opportunity to fish out these criminals hiding under the picture of herdsmen to perpetuate evil.

We advise the governor to provide the needed institutional, moral and political support for the Amotekun security network to live up to its mandate.

Education / Covid19: Closure Of Schools Is Doing More Harms Than Good, AAUASU President. by Ogbenitayo: 6:49am On Jan 14, 2021
LOCKDOWN OF SCHOOLS IS DOING MORE HARMS THAN GOOD

To whom it may concern,

It is audible to the deafs and visible to the blinds that COVID19 is a critical deadly disease with visible and known symptoms. The Federal Government shutdown schools throughout last year and also released compulsive covid19 precautionary protocols like wearing of face mask, social distancing among others.

It is an established fact that some students have spent roughly 2years in a same class or level. Students in promotion classes like Primary 5/6 , JSS3, SS3, 400/500level etc remains stagnant and thereby making it difficult for jambites to get admitted. It is very obvious that most people don’t even believe that COVID19 is real. We can recall that some years ago when there was heavy malaria outbreak, one of the antidotes that helped in controlling it was education (public lectures and orientation) and distribution of treated mosquito nets, enforcement of environmental sanitation excercise cum medical attentions and all those steps contributed a lot in the quest to combat malaria.

However, closing down of schools will not bring lasting solution to the spread of covid19 rather it will increase the rate of ignorance in the society. Thus, we can use the tertiary and secondary schools as a point of contact to further orientate and educate Nigerians about the symptoms of covid19, preventive measures and further helpful information about this satanic virus.
Closing down the education sector in a time like this will lead to a heavy outbreak of ignorance which is the greatest form of virus. The schools, known to be a civil social society where sanity is generated, Covid19 education is advised to be included in school’s curricula activities in all levels of education. It is believed that
“any danger a man knows about can no longer hunt him” and this can be done easily through the educationa sector.

Hence, we request that all schools should be opened because all schools, according to findings, are prepared for safe reopening and are ready to enforce covid19 safety protocols.

Moreover, any further attempt by the Federal Government to shut down schools will lead to mass action. It is nothing but the truth that our government has made education in Nigeria so unaffordable while we are averagely sad and now, if you decided to make education unaccessible we wont hesitate to shut down the NATION.

Nairaland / General / ONDO: Akure Students’ Elect New Executive. by Ogbenitayo: 4:16pm On Jan 05, 2021
Akure Students' Elect New Executive To Pilot Affairs

The National Association of Akure Students (NAAS) has elected new executive members to pilot its affairs for another year in office.

Speaking at the inauguration, the newly elected President, Comrade Olasunkanmi Omotoso said the new administration would be all-inclusive, participatory, and transparent to all members.

He explained that their emergence as the new executive was divine noting that the history of the union is set to be rewritten with them in the saddle of power.

"I am honored and privileged to have been elected as president of our noble association, in cooperation of the executive council will do our best to meet the challenge.

"I want to assure you that this administration will be an open administration where true democracy will take over egocentrism and self-centeredness because I believe it is time to rewrite the history of unionism in NAAS which student have fundamentally lost faith in"

Crime / ONDO: AAUASU Call For Government Intervention On The Killings In Akungba. by Ogbenitayo: 11:20am On Dec 30, 2020
RE- IN RESPECT TO THE RECENT KILLINGS AND SECURITY TURMOIL IN AKUNGBA COMMUNITY

It started when one Mr. Tunde Olubasa was killed during the last hour of 26th December 2020. Yet, another killing was also reported when one AY Chiller was also shot dead last night, 29th of December, 2020.

It’s very obvious that the students are the major dominants in Akungba community and students have contributed immensely to the commercial development of Akungba as a community. Thus, it will be very absurd if students are scared of returning back to school upon resumption because a student who is scared of being attacked over night won’t be motivated to study and thus insecurity in Akungba can chase away helpful investors from investing in the just developing community.

However, we hereby seize this medium to humbly call on the Ondo state Government, security agencies and the Community leaders to find a lasting solution to this obnoxious incident and restore peace and sanity in Akungba community because the leadership of ADEKUNLE AJASIN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS UNION won’t tolerate any incessant attack or threat to life and properties of her Students.

Akeredolu Mobilizes Thugs To Tribunal Sitting In Akure

The Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN has mobilised large number of thugs to the venue of Ondo Gubernatorial Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

At the hearing this morning, Tuesday, 8th December, 2020, APC thugs under the leadership of one "Chemical" bombarded the venue, harassing, molesting, beating up, shooting sporadically into the air and attacking anyone perceived to be supporter of the PDP and its Candidate, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, SAN.

They were parading the vicinity of the Court in a tinted Toyota Corolla car. Others were members of the Taxi Unit of National Union of Road Transport Workers( NURTW) with instructions from their master Idajo, to cause pandemonium during the sitting.

As early as 8.30a.m this morning, the Petitioners, Eyitayo Jegede and the PDP represented by its State Chairman, Alhaji Fatai Adams, led other PDP leaders to the Court.

But shortly thereafter, the APC thugs caused so much panic and confusion within the arena. It took the combined efforts of the Army and Policemen to restore order.

The PDP wishes to call on security agencies to live up to this fresh threat to law and order in the State. Resorting to violence will not deter the PDP and its candidate from pursuing this Petition to its conclusive end. Neither can this act of barbarism scare the Judges from the course of Justice.

Present at today's inaugural hearing were; Engr Clement Faboyede, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, Tokunbo Modupe, Adomola Babalola, Hon.Suffy Uguoji, Engr. Adebowale, Hon. Akinsoyinu and Tokunbo Jegede. State Executive Committee Members, Tola Alabere, Oluseye Olujimi amongst others.

Politics / ONDO2020: Tribunal Holds Inaugural Sitting This Week. by Ogbenitayo: 6:13am On Dec 07, 2020
ONDO TRIBUNAL HOLDS INAUGURAL SITTING THIS WEEK.

By Kennedy Ikantu Peretei.

On Tuesday, 8th December, 2020, the Ondo Gubernatorial Election Petitions Tribunal will hold its Inaugural sitting in Akure.

Justice Umar Abubakar, leading two other Justices will hear the petition filed by Eyitayo Jegede, SAN against Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN who was declared winner of the October 10, 2020 Election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Election Tribunals are established pursuant to section 285 of the Nigerian 1999 Constitution ( as Amended)and section 133 of the Electoral Act 2011( as Amended) to address disputes arising from Elections.

Eyitayo Jegede, the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dragged the All Progressives Congress (APC) Candidate, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN before the Tribunal to answer for perceived infractions on the laws of the land. Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN is leading a team of legal luminaries to prosecute this legal fireworks.

The grounds of the petition include that;
1. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was not validly nominated by his party APC. By the provisions of section 183 of the 1999 Constitution, a serving Governor of a State( in this case, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni) can not serve as the National Chairman of APC at the same time to nominate Akeredolu as Candidate of their Party for the Ondo Elections. Section 183 states "The Governor shall not, during the period when he holds office, hold any other executive office or paid employment in any capacity whatsover".

In other words, Akeredolu was not validly nominated and as such APC had no candidate for the Ondo Election.

2. Article 17 section iv of the APC Constitution also provides that, any official of the party cannot simultaneously occupy any other executive office in government. It states "No officer in any organ of the party shall hold executive position office in government concurrently".
Again Buni ran foul of this provision.

3. The Election was marred with violence in some Local Governments as well as over voting in other areas.

These are some of the grounds that Jegede is relying on and asking the Tribunal to declare him as the validly elected Governor of Ondo State.

Earlier, while swearing in Justices of the Election Petitions Tribunals for Edo and Ondo States in Abuja, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad admonished the Judges. In his words "All eyes will be on you and always remember that your conducts will be publicly dissected and thoroughly scrutinized. Do what is right in our Law books and you will have your names etched in gold".

Flowing from this admonition and given the character and track record of the Justices in the panel, it is believed that justice will be served at the end of the day.
Crime / ONDO: Oodua Youth Condoles With Ondo Communities. by Ogbenitayo: 1:06pm On Nov 27, 2020
OODUA YOUTH COALITION CONDOLE WITH ONDO COMMUNITIES.

It's with grief-stricken heart that we the leadership of Oodua Youth Coalition (OYC) condole with the people of Ondo State, Ifon and Ode-Irele Community over the ugly incidence of assassination of a high ranking monarch, Oba Isreal Adegoke Adeusi (Olufon of Ifon) and heist that reportedly claim the life of an innocent citizen going about his daily business.

The ugly incidence once again points to the many security challenges the state is faced with in recent time as cases of kidnapping, robbery, banditry and so on are on the increase. While we commend the effort of the state government in ensuring safety of lives and properties in form of Amotekun Initiative, we make bold to highlight the shortage of personnel recruitment and proper training in terms of intelligence gathering.

We call on the government to leverage on the existing security architecture, create a synergy between security agencies within the state and encourage the personnel of each by providing the needed equipment that will aid their efficiency from the monthly security votes to avert the reoccurrence of such ugly incidence.

It's our prayer that God grant the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable of their of loved ones.

Nairaland / General / OYC: Speech Delivered By President Of Oodua Youth Coalition During 2020 Public L by Ogbenitayo: 9:00am On Nov 19, 2020
Speech Delivered by National President Of Oodua Youth Coalition during the annuals Public Lecture held on 16th of Nov 2020. Virtual edition.

Protocols!

It gives me great joy and pleasure to speak to this gathering of patriotic, visionary and progressive-minded youths of Yoruba extraction. Even when the novel coronavirus tried to build bridges between us and take our inalienable right of association, we leverage on the available technological evolvement to gather for progressive cross-pollination of ideas like this. May I humbly welcome us all to this year edition of the Oodua Youths Coalition annual public lecture.

The Oodua Youth Coalition is a conglomerateon of youths across the Southwest, birth in the year 2017, the organisation's mandate was premised around harnessing the youthfulness, innovative and patriotic tendencies of Youths around the six southwestern states for the development of the region and the country at large in the area of governance, agriculture, education, business, advocacy and sustainability of peace.

The organisation have since been fulfilling it mandate by working closely with community heads, government institutions, NGOs in ensuring people especially in the remote areas are sensitize and educated on the roles they're to expected to play in the process of making our country, Nigeria and the Yoruba Nation a great place for all to peacefully coexist. In lieu of the public outcry, our involvement in the agitation for the reforming of the anti-robbery unit of the Nigerian Police Force saw our members made the judicial panel of inquiry across the southwest, this and many other interventions define our existence as a group.

The theme for this year's public lecture was informed by the situation at hand globally and the need to find a solution within our cultural norms. It's a proven believe that Yoruba's leverage the potency of roots and herbs for meditation for several years. It was what our founding fathers lived on, even when the new generation prefer to look in the ways of medicine and science that seems to be taking too long than expected in the provision of vaccine for the ravaging novel coronavirus. It won't be out of place for us as a people with the history of harnessing the efficacy of herbs and roots for medication to look in the way for care to the novel virus.

Secondly, it's not doubt that the outbreak of the virus have seen the global economy crumbled, it effect on education, sport, international trade and micro and macro economies of country is deepened and serious and very proactive steps must be taken to revive the world back to her fit in earnest. The task of reviving the global economy is one that requires all hands to be on deck and it won't be out of place for us as a people–Yoruba to look for means to contribute to the revival within our local economy setup.

This and many more are reasons why the leadership of the Oodua Youth Coalition cautiously choose our highly revered, experienced, savvy and discipline speakers to do justice to the topic "Levergaing the rich yoruba culture" in a time like this.

It will no doubt worth your time.

Thanks for been part of this year's auspicious event.

God Bless You..

OODUA YOUTH COALITION FAULTS CONTINUED CASES OF KIDNAPPING ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST, CALLS FOR AN END TO THE MENACE

Top of the responsibilities of a government to its citizens is to create a safe and peaceful environment for them to embark on their day-to-day activities without fear. The South western part of Nigeria was known for peace until recently that the rate of criminal activities has been on the increase. There are reported cases of kidnapping, stealing and terror unleashed on farmers across the southwest. We, the leadership of the Oodua Youth Coalition, finds it important to call the attention of the southwest governors to cases of kidnapping in Ondo, Osun and Ekiti, thuggery in Oyo and Ogun, terror in lagos. These heinous activities have continued to put fear in the minds of our people.

We commend the Governors for the unity of purpose exhibited in the establishment of the southwest regional security network codenamed "Amotekun". It is a courageous step towards curbing the challenges of security in the region. While we commend this move, we implore the Governors in their respective states to domesticate the initiative and give the institutional and financial support for them to deliver on the mandate given to them.

We also find it imperative to appeal to officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to resume their normal duties as the #Endsars protest wasn't a struggle to crucify the police but to demand a system that works for all, police inclusive. We also like to remind men of the NPF of the oath of dedication and commitment signed when taking the job. It's sacrosanct we all stay on course as we demand for a country that works.

This statement was signed by Oluyi Akintade Tayo the national president and released by OluwaGbenga Ajongbolo shortly after there meeting held in Ibadan last weekend.
