Chinkoalhaji34: Why are we always quick to point fingers?
Obasanjo should remember that the issues with fuel subsidy didn't start today. Tinubu is trying to navigate through a maze of challenges left behind by previous administrations.
Instead of casting blame, let’s support the efforts to find a sustainable solution. We need to look at the bigger picture and give room for progress, no matter how slow it may seem.
What’s important is that we keep pushing for better policies and hold the government accountable, not just criticize from the sidelines. The only solution to this subsidy issue is for our refineries to work, anything outside that is not sincere, Tinubu should insist the refineries get back on stream, if not this would consume his government, the hardship is too. |

sIfioksq: It's disheartening to see some people still holding onto this futile protest after five days. Are they really expecting change through mere noise, or are they just seeking attention? It seems like a distraction from the real issues we face, fueled by a misguided sense of purpose. So you feel, 4 states have declared 24 hrs curfew, do you understand the implications of that? I bet you don't, the president should be more than worried, the speech he gave yesterday was nothing at all and would not make a difference if more states continue to implement the 24hrs curfew then the country is shutting down. He should get those refineries working as soon as possible, if they are making so much money from this subsidy they should desist because it will consume them, the prime minister of Bangladesh just resigned and fled the country, this is just the 5 day of the protest anything can still happen, Tinubu should do the needful rather than insult Nigerians |

bennybuhari: #EndBadGovernance: Odumakin Commends Peaceful Protesters, Warns Against Profiling Igbos In Lagos
Dr. Joe Odumakin, President, Oluyinka Odumakin Foundation has commended peaceful protesters across the country who are demanding an end to bad governance in Nigeria.
In a statement titled 'A Letter to the People on the End Bad Governance Protest' which she personally signed, Odumakin also warned those taking advantage of the protest to loot and destroy properties to destroy to desist.
While calling on government at all levels to listen to the demands of the people, she enjoined security operatives to respect the rights of the protesters.
Tne full statement reads "Thank you Nigerians for standing up against oppression and demanding a better future for our nation. Your voices are being heard. Those responsible for the looting and wanton destruction of lives and property should stop their nefarious activities".
"Those responsible for the threat against Igbos in Lagos are urged to desist from such divisive rhetorics. Spreading of ethnic hatred, threats and intimidation are all diversionary tactics deployed by a colourless clique in our society".
"Such antiquated antics cannot work among a people united by political alienation and poverty. Let us work towards building a more inclusive Nigeria, where every individual can live without fear of persecution or discrimination based on primordial sentiments. Our diversity remains our strength and justifies why Nigeria has been the champion of peace and understanding continentally and globally". "Security operatives should realize that they remain accountable and must adhere to the letters of our constitution which provide for respect for fundamental human rights".
"We urge leaders of all tiers and arms of Government to listen to the demands of the citizens and take concrete steps to address the issues of extreme poverty and bad governance. The people have spoken, and it's time for positive changes to be effected".
"Remember, the power of the people is greater than the people in power. Let's work together towards a more just and equitable society for all".
https://thescrutinyng.com/2024/08/04/endbadgovernance-odumakin-commends-peaceful-protesters-warns-against-profiling-igbos-in-lagos/ I hope while they are asking Igbos to leave Lagos they are also asking thier people in other regions to start coming home, because it will not be only the Igbos that will Chase them from the east, South Southerns will also chase them away from their region |

Those two are economically impossible at this time for reasons we all know. That policy has crossed the Rubicon. But subsidy is still ongoing, we should move for our refineries to be fixed immediately |

He should get the refineries working as soon as possible, that would go a long way to helping out, which should be one of the demands, not return of subsidy |

No miracle, economist will save Nigeria from a year like this. We practiced unsustainable economics. Then they should get the refineries working as soon as possible to stop this subsidy, we have the crude oil so that would not be a problem |

nairavsdollars: A former member of the House of Representatives, Otunba Bosun Oladele says those who are still embittered over the outcome of the 2023 presidential election are the ones sponsoring the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest.
Speaking in an interview with TheScrutiny, Oladele who is the National Secretary of South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA’23) says many of the losers hold meetings on social media platforms where they plan evil things against President Bola Tinubu's government.
He urged the security agencies to fish out the individuals and make them face the full wrath of the law.
"It is very clear that those smarting from electoral defeat are majorly behind the protest. In fact, some of them hold spaces on X.com (formerly Twitter) from time to time to plan evil against Nigeria, Mr President and his government and it is high time the security agencies begin to profile such individuals and make them face the full wrath of the law for their incitement of others into lawlessness".
"Please don’t misinterpret me. The right to peaceful protest is legally guaranteed, however, the organisers are only about to give hoodlums the opportunity to cause anarchy and loot innocent citizens silly like it happened in Nigeria in 2020 and 2024 in Kenya".
" Many business owners lost their businesses and never survived the shock, many jobs were lost forever and so on. Tell me, who is responsible for such protest and who is going to guarantee that it will be peaceful?" he asked. https://thescrutinyng.com/2024/08/01/losers-of-2023-general-elections-are-the-brains-behind-endbadgovernance-protest-ex-rep/ Make thunder fire you there, because the losers are the cause of the hardship. |
Politics › Re: Tinubu's Regime Is Over by Oghene86: 3:55pm On Aug 01, 2024 |
Kushites: Grammar.
The ONLY way to “make things better” in the short term is to reintroduce the fuel subsidies.
Meaning we revert to borrowing $10 billion a year to pay subsidies.
No government is coming in to do that. Not Atiku, Not Obi.
They all condemned the subsidies as fraudulent and unsustainable back then, and promised to remove them if elected.
So stop dreaming.
If you remove Tinubu and replace him with some other politician, nothing will fundamentally change. Indeed, it will set things backward, as that one will now enter and start all over again with something else that will also need some years to reach fruition.
The most practical route is to just let the president have the time he says he needs to fix the economy. Then get the refineries working, what in heaven is stopping them, if not corruption, I don't care he leaves today or tomorrow he has failed, get the refineries working for heaven sake |
