Politics2027: I Won’t Support Tinubu If He Drops Shettima – Sheik Jingir by ogododo(op): 7:52pm On Jun 25, 2025
Spiritual leader and National Chairman, Ulam’u Council of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheik Sani Yahaya Jingir, has declared that he wouldn’t support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election if the president drops Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Sheik Jingir disclosed this during a religious event at the Yantaya Mosque in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Daily Trust reports that Sheik Jingir supported President Tinubu’s election in 2023 and urged his followers to do likewise.

Our correspondent reports that there ae speculations within the APC the vice president’s fate is hanging in the balance.

Responding on recent development in the APC, the spiritual leader said, “I have learnt that some unpatriotic people within and outside the APC have been making efforts to destroy Tinubu’s relationship and Shettima to achieve their surreptitious goals. That is not a welcome development, president Tinubu.

“Myself and others around me supported Tinubu and Shettima, and we’re backing your joint ticket. Any attempt to drop Shettima, I wouldn’t support that move because they had earlier agreed to contest and work together. I supported them without taking a penny from them. Although I am close to Atiku Abubakar, I chose to vote for Tinubu and Shettima. There are rumors circulating that things aren’t going well between the them but I don’t believe it. In my opinion, it’s the work of their enemies.”

Sheik Jingir, however, urged President Tinubu not to listen to those calling for him to drop Shettima in 2027, describing such people as enemies of progress.

Tinubu’s Curious Classmate: Nigerians Deserve Answers, Not More Confusion

During the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Mechanisation Programme in Abuja yesterday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made what appeared to be a lighthearted revelation — that a certain Mr. Alex Zingman was his classmate at Chicago State University (CSU). But rather than evoke confidence, the claim has triggered more questions than answers, particularly regarding the President’s long-contested academic history.

A basic review of publicly available information immediately calls the President’s claim into question. Mr. Alex Zingman, a Belarusian businessman whose name features prominently in controversial dealings across Africa — including allegations of arms trafficking and financial improprieties in Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo — is listed in various reports as being born in 1966. By the year 1979, when President Tinubu claims to have graduated from CSU, Mr. Zingman would have been only 13 years old.

Are we now to believe that the Guinness Book of Records missed the story of a 13-year-old Belarusian prodigy graduating from an American university alongside Bola Ahmed Tinubu?

Even more troubling is the President’s casual association with a man whose international reputation is mired in scandal.

This leads us to ask, with the solemn weight of patriotism and the urgency of truth:

Mr. President, Nigerians deserve to know why a man born in 1966 is being paraded as your classmate who graduated in 1979. Were you taught in the same classroom or in different decades?

Mr. President, Nigerians deserve to know if the Alex Zingman of global infamy — the arms-linked tycoon — shares the same seat in your memories or only in a script of fiction.

Mr. President, Nigerians deserve to know why the mystery around your academic record deepens with every attempt to clarify it. Who truly walked the halls of Chicago State University with you?

Mr. President, Nigerians deserve to know why, since you claim to have presented a certificate from Government College, Lagos to gain entry into Richard Daley College in 1973, no classmate from that institution has ever spoken of sharing a desk with you.

Mr. President, Nigerians deserve to know how a school founded in 1972 could issue you a certificate dated 1970—unless you were a lone prophet of a school yet unborn.

Mr. President, Nigerians deserve to know why you have not proudly unveiled a single verifiable classmate from your supposed years in Government College, Lagos or Government College, Ibadan or Chicago State University, the way other leaders do with ease and pride.

Mr. President, your oath of office binds you not just to protect our nation but to honour its truth. The Presidency is not a sanctuary for secrets — it is a platform for integrity. And as such, Nigerians await not tales of Alexes from distant lands but proof, clarity, and the simple dignity of facts.

PoliticsNNPCL Raises Petrol Price To N945 In Abuja And N915 In Lagos. by ogododo(op): 1:28pm On Jun 23, 2025
Retail outlets owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited have effected an upward adjustment in the pump price of the Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, to N945 per litre in the Federal Capital Territory on Monday.

It also adjusted its petrol pump price to ₦915 per litre at several of its Lagos retail outlets, marking a fresh upward shift in the downstream retail market.

The latest increase marks a fresh spike of N45 and N35 in Lagos and Abuja, respectively, up from the previous prices of N870 and N910 per litre.

The price adjustments come just days after the Dangote Petroleum Refinery increased its ex-depot price of petrol from N825 to N880 per litre, sparking an industry-wide response.

Our correspondent observed that the new pricing was implemented across several NNPC-owned filling stations, intensifying the financial strain on consumers already grappling with high transportation and living costs.

At the NNPC retail outlet in the Federal Housing area of Kubwa, Abuja, the new price of N945 per litre was boldly displayed, with similar adjustments noted at the state-owned mega station along Obasanjo Way.

In Lagos, stations located in Igando and along the Badagry Expressway reflected the revised N915 per litre rate.

The ripple effect was also visible across private retail outlets. MRS filling stations, a strategic partner of the Dangote refinery, raised pump prices to N925 per litre in Lagos, up from N875.

TotalEnergies followed suit with a new price of N910, while other marketers like Oluwafemi Arowolo Petroleum in Iba pushed rates to N920 per litre.

Depot sources confirmed to The PUNCH that major supply hubs in Lagos, including Wosbab, Pinnacle, and NIPCO, have now set PMS ex-depot prices between N920 and N925 per litre as of June 23, citing rising upstream costs and international crude prices.

On the global front, the escalating conflict between the United States and Iran has continued to rattle the oil market, with analysts projecting that crude oil prices may soon cross the $80 per barrel threshold. A weekend airstrike reportedly carried out by US-Israeli forces on Iranian nuclear sites has stoked fears of supply disruptions.

Concerned by this trend, independent marketers have warned that unless there’s a swift intervention, petrol prices could climb above N1,000 per litre in the coming weeks, driven by surging international oil prices and a weakening naira.

The Chief Executive Officer of PetroleumPrice.ng, Olatide Jeremiah, stated, “Private depots are likely to increase petrol price to N1,000 in the coming days with the current trend observed in the market. If by tomorrow morning, crude price increases to $80 or exceeds that threshold, Nigerians would pay N1,000 at depots.

“The situation means they will take advantage of Nigerians, but we can only hope that Dangote maintains its current price, that is the only way depot owners won’t jack up the price anyhow. The price surge seen last week was basically because Dangote stopped selling for some days. But it has opened up its portal and is now selling at N880 for two million litres. Dangote remains a major determinant of petrol price.”

The recurring upward adjustments are likely to fuel inflationary pressures, with commuters, businesses, and households bearing the brunt of a deregulated but unstable petroleum market.

PoliticsPolice Confirm Abduction Of Passengers In Benue Links Bus Hijack, One Rescued by ogododo(op): 8:01am On Jun 23, 2025
Benue State Police Command has confirmed the hijack of a Benue Links commercial bus and the abduction of its passengers by suspected gunmen along the Otukpo-Otukpa road on Sunday evening.

In a statement released Monday morning, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Edet Udeme said the incident involved a Hummer bus with registration number 14B-143BN, which was found abandoned by the roadside in Ugbokolo, Okpokwu Local Government Area.

“Upon receiving the distress information, police tactical teams, in collaboration with the military and the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, swiftly mobilised to the scene,” the PPRO said.

During the combing of the surrounding forest, the team rescued one of the victims, identified as Paul Terns, who managed to escape from the abductors.

The PPRO assured that additional reinforcements have been deployed to the area to intensify the search for the remaining passengers and ensure their safe return.

State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Aondowase Kunde, made the disclosure during an interactive session with journalists in Makurdi, the state capital, at the weekend.
He said criminals had infiltrated the camp opened for victims at International Market located along George Akume way in Makurdi.
The commissioner expressed concerns that people from the host community and market women infiltrated the camp.

Kunde noted that the criminals on Friday night broke into the camp and stole some non-food items while market women also invaded the camp to buy off food items meant for displaced persons.
He said, “We have been having issues in the camp for the past two days and we discovered a lot of infiltrators in the camp and conducted investigation after the Thursday protest and discovered that criminals and people from the host community in Makurdi were behind the protest.
“So we resolved that we have to be at the camp by 4am today (Saturday) to fish out those criminals and then we discovered that they stole mattresses while they used the area where the fence collapsed to access the camp.
“We discovered that some market women have started coming to the camp to buy off rice and food items distributed to displaced persons.
“We also discovered that some women who were claiming to be lactating mothers went out to borrow babies from outside to be able to access the camp when they discovered that the first set of people we attended to were pregnant women and lactating mothers.
“When these so called lactating mothers were asked to breast feed their babies, we discovered there was no milk coming out of their breast.”

Members
Members of the anti-Tinubu coalition include: Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; ex-Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi; his Kaduna State counterpart, Nasir El-Rufai; the convener of the League of Northern Democrats, Dr. Umar Ardo, and a host of others.

The group had considered joining an existing political party which saw the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and the Social Democratic Party, SDP, jostling to out do each other to be considered.

However, several members of the coalition expressed concerns over the internal wrangling within existing parties, which in some cases had led to litigations.

The coalition subsequently set up a committee to also consider the option of registering a completely new platform where all members will start on equal footing in terms of membership.

The committee, which was headed by former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi submitted its report about a week ago with a recommendation in favour of registering a new party.

PoliticsTinubu’s Visit To Benue, A Political Show – Atiku by ogododo(op): 6:45pm On Jun 19, 2025
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue State, calling it a ‘political spectacle’ rather than a sincere effort to address the state’s security issues or sympathise with victims of violence.

Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, made the comments during an exclusive interview with Vanguard in Abuja on Thursday. He accused the Tinubu administration of focusing on political drama instead of finding real solutions to the growing insecurity in Nigeria.

Ibe stated, “It’s commendable when a leader empathises with the people; offering a shoulder to lean on and sharing in their grief is a mark of true leadership. However, the visit was marred by political theatrics. Children were lined up on the highway, waving at the president in the rain; subjecting them to such conditions was unnecessary.”

He also criticised the government’s failure to tackle the root causes of insecurity, pointing out that despite the deaths of over 200 people in recent attacks, there have been no arrests.

“The same security agencies that failed to prevent or investigate this tragedy were quick to tear gas peaceful protesters demanding accountability for their safety. This is unacceptable,” Ibe said.

He further took aim at the Tinubu administration’s general handling of governance, accusing it of misunderstanding the real nature of Nigeria’s security problems.

“When you misdiagnose a problem, the solution will inevitably be flawed; garbage in, garbage out. Look at the individuals heading the security portfolios: they’re politicians, not experts. They’re focused on political gains rather than the demands of their roles,” he remarked.

He stressed the importance of inclusivity in governance, arguing that the exclusion of certain regions, religions, and ethnic groups by the Tinubu government has worsened instability.

“Inclusiveness is a tool for national unity and stability. When you dismiss or alienate people, they will inevitably create chaos,” Ibe stated.

Ibe also criticised the administration’s early focus on the 2027 elections, saying it has distracted from more urgent national concerns.

Mixed reactions trail Tinubu’s visit to Benue
“The focus on 2027 is distracting from pressing issues, leaving problems unaddressed and insecurity rampant. There’s nothing new this administration has introduced to tackle these challenges,” he added.

His comments come at a time of growing public frustration with the federal government’s response to insecurity.

PoliticsBandits Kill 24 Farmers, Others In Katsina Communities by ogododo(op): 7:28am On Jun 19, 2025
Bandits have killed at least 20 farmers, three other residents, and a community watch corps operative, popularly called C’watch in Katsina State.

The separate incidents took place in Kankara Local Government Area, one of the frontline LGAs in the state.

A resident of the community who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that, “about six days ago, bandits attacked farmers in Yargoje, Kwakware, Danmarke, Gidan Dawa and some from Burdugau.

“They killed about 20 farmers, kidnapped some and rustled the animals with which they tilled their farms,” he said.

Another source told Daily Trust that on Monday, bandits also launched an attack on Marmara village, also in Kankara local government where they engaged a team of the community watch corps together with members of civilian JTF, killing a C’watch member and injuring two members of civilian JTF outside the village.

They had also penetrated Marmara village where they killed three residents,” the source said.

Daily Trust also gathered that on the same Monday, at night, the bandits visited some communities east of Kwakware village where an unidentified number of residents were kidnapped and animals rustled.

A resident of Kankara, who preferred not to be named, said the recent incessant attacks in the local government might not be unconnected with the recent peace deals reached in some neighbouring LGAs.

“So long as there will be a peace agreement in one place and not in all other affected areas, there is every tendency that the bandits will strike where they are not in peace with,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Katsina Police Command said it has succeeded in foiling a kidnap attempt at Mazare village, Sabuwa LGA, Katsina, rescuing four victims, including three females and a baby girl.

A statement issued by the command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said on June 18, at about 9pm, a report of a suspected attack and kidnapping attempt on the village by a group of suspected bandits was received at the Sabuwa Division, stating that the assailants shot and injured two persons.

The victims were Sa’idu Isa, 37, and Sa’idu Wa’alam, 61, all of the same address, while three females and a baby were kidnapped.

“Upon receipt of the report, the DPO mobilised and led a team of police operatives to the scene, where a gun battle ensued, leading to the successful rescue of all four kidnapped victims unharmed as the assailants fled the scene due to superior firepower.

The injured victims were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention, where they are receiving and responding to treatment,” Aliyu said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has raised concerns over the notice submitted by the Peoples Democratic Party regarding its planned 100th National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for June 30, 2025.

The development was conveyed in a letter dated June 13 and addressed to the party’s chairman, with reference number INEC/DEPM/PDP/286/iii/80 and titled “RE: NOTICE OF 100TH NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY.”

The letter was obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday.

The commission stated that the submitted notice failed to comply with its regulations.

So This Happened (EP310) Reviews 25 Years of Democracy, The Protests and Progress?0:00 / 1:01

Specifically, INEC cited Part 2(12)3 of the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, which requires that such notices be jointly signed by both the National Chairman and National Secretary of the party.

INEC, in the letter signed by acting Secretary, Mathru Aminu, advised the PDP to ensure proper compliance with its rules moving forward.

“The commission draws your attention that the notice is not in compliance with the requirement of part 2(12)3 of the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022 that provides ‘the National Chairman and National Secretary of the Party shall jointly sign the notice of convention, congress, conference or meeting and submit same to the Commission. Be guided,” the letter read.

The development came after the PDP, in a letter dated May 30, formally informed the electoral body of its intention to hold the landmark NEC meeting at its National Secretariat in Abuja.

The notice, signed solely by the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, was in accordance with INEC’s 21-day notification requirement for political meetings of such magnitude.

According to party insiders, the June 30 meeting is expected to address several longstanding internal issues, including the controversy surrounding the office of the National Secretary, ratification of recent zonal congresses, and review of key committee reports.

The PDP has been plagued by internal strife before and after the 2023 general elections. Disputes across zones, particularly in Rivers, the South-South, and South-East regions, along with disagreements over leadership roles, have continued to deepen tensions within the party. The North-Central zonal congress recently added to the party’s list of unresolved issues.

These challenges have led to repeated postponements of the NEC meeting six times in total stalling critical decisions and prompting defections of key figures such as Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The “Hunger Hotspots” report by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and World Food Programme (WFP) blamed conflict, economic shocks, and climate-related hazards for conditions in the worst-hit areas.

The report cited insecurity in northern Nigeria, which it said “is expected to deteriorate, with escalating violence driving further civilian casualties and widespread displacement” and economic hardship as key concerns in the country.

“In Nigeria, escalating violence in northern states is likely to drive widespread displacement, reduce access and hinder agricultural activity.

“Nigeria faces severe macroeconomic challenges, including high inflation, drastically increasing the cost of living and pushing millions into hunger.

“Acute food insecurity in the North-East and North-West regions of Nigeria is expected to deteriorate, with escalating violence driving further civilian casualties and widespread displacement,” the report said.

According to the report, South Sudan, hit by flooding and political instability, could see up to 7.7 million people in crisis, with 63,000 in famine-like conditions.

In Gaza, Israel’s continued military operations and blockade have left the entire population of 2.1 million people facing acute food insecurity, with nearly half a million at risk of famine by the end of September, the report added.

In Haiti, escalating gang violence has displaced thousands, with 8,400 already facing catastrophic hunger, while in Mali, conflict and high grain prices put 2,600 people at risk of starvation by the end of August.

Other countries of high concern include Yemen, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Myanmar.

The report predicts food crises in the next five months. It called for investment and help to ensure aid delivery, which it said was being undermined by insecurity and funding gaps.

WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain said, “This report is a red alert. We know where hunger is rising, and we know who is at risk. Without funding and access, we cannot save lives.’’

For famine to be declared, at least 20 per cent of the population in an area must be suffering extreme food shortages, with 30 per cent of children acutely malnourished and two people out of every 10,000 dying daily from starvation or malnutrition and disease.

In Sudan, where famine was confirmed in 2024, the crisis is expected to persist due to conflict and displacement, with almost 25 million people at risk.

FAO Director-General QU Dongyu said, “Protecting people’s farms and animals to ensure they can keep producing food where they are, even in the toughest and harshest conditions, is not just urgent, it is essential.’’

Some countries, such as Ethiopia, Kenya, and Lebanon, have shown improvements and have been removed from the FAO and WFP’s Hunger Hotspots list.

PoliticsCAN Condemns Benue Killings, Demands Urgent Govt Action by ogododo(op): 1:42pm On Jun 16, 2025
The Christian Association of Nigeria has strongly condemned the recent killings in Benue State, which claimed over 200 lives, calling for immediate and decisive government action.

In a press statement signed by CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh on Monday, CAN extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, while praying for the repose of their souls.

“The Christian Association of Nigeria strongly condemns the horrific wave of violence that recently swept through Benue State, resulting in the tragic loss of over 200 lives in a series of coordinated attacks.

“These senseless killings have inflicted immeasurable pain on families, devastated communities, and further entrenched the insecurity threatening our nation.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved and pray for the peaceful repose of the departed souls,” the statement partly read.

Okoh expressed concern over what he described as recurring violence in Benue, without meaningful justice or protection for the victims, while calling on the Federal Government to take decisive action, including declaring a state of emergency in most affected communities.

“For too long, the people of Benue have been subjected to recurrent assaults, often blamed on armed groups, without meaningful intervention or justice.

“This persistent failure to safeguard citizens and bring perpetrators to account has emboldened attackers and prolonged the cycle of violence.

“CAN calls on the Federal Government to act with urgency and resolve.

“We demand the immediate deployment of reinforced security personnel to protect vulnerable communities and, if necessary, the declaration of a state of emergency in the most affected areas,” he said.

The Christian body also called for a transparent investigation into those responsible for the massacre, while emphasising the need for justice and international support to break the “grip of impunity” fueling the crisis.

“We further insist on a thorough, transparent investigation and the swift prosecution of all those responsible.

“Justice must prevail to break the grip of impunity fueling these atrocities.

“We also appeal to the international community to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and rebuilding trust in Benue State.

“The Christian Association of Nigeria remains unwavering in its commitment to defending the sanctity of life and advocating for the protection and dignity of all Nigerians.

“May peace be restored, and may justice roll down like waters,” the statement added.
