Judge Nancy Maldonado says the U.S. Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago has been inundated with emails from Nigerians eagerly anticipating her decision on whether or not she will order Chicago State University (CSU) to release President Bola Tinubu’s records.

As a result, she has decided to issue a ruling on the matter “as soon as possible,” a court filing seen by Peoples Gazette stated.

“The Court notes that Court staff has received extensive email communications from members of the public related to this case,” stated the court document entered into docket on Friday.

Consequently, the “Court will endeavour to issue a written ruling as soon as possible,” the document noted acknowledging that the matter was of utmost interest to Nigerians curious to learn the background of their leader and had sent the court a flurry of emails.

“The Court understands the significant public interest in this dispute but the Court will not consider any third-party or ex parte submissions.”

Messrs Tinubu and Abubakar have been at loggerheads over the discrepancies in the Nigerian leader’s CSU records, as the institution in response to a previous subpoena in 2022, released documents showing a female Bola Tinubu from South West college was admitted to the school to pursue a degree in accounting.

Also at issue was CSU’s adamant refusal to authenticate the diploma Mr Tinubu submitted to Nigeria’s electoral body, INEC, to be genuine or falsified, which has fuelled allegations of forgery and perjury for which Mr Abubakar is seeking to void Mr Tinubu’s election victory at Nigeria’s Supreme Court.

Further confusing Mr Abubakar were the signatures on the diploma that Mr Tinubu submitted to INEC, which were those of two women, Elnora Daniel and Niva Lubin who joined CSU in 1998 and 1996, nearly 20 years after the president graduated in 1979.

“The June 22 diploma has indicia of forgery,” Angela Liu, the U.S. attorney representing Mr Abubakar, told the court on Wednesday.

Judge Jeffrey Gilbert on September 20 had ordered CSU to release Mr Tinubu’s records but the president begged Ms Maldonado to delay the order’s enforcement, pleading severe and irreparable damage to his life.

On September 6, the presidential elections petitions tribunal upheld Mr Tinubu’s election victory. However, Mr Abubakar strongly believes the decision was deeply flawed and a miscarriage of justice, leading him to file an appeal at the nation’s Supreme Court where he plans to use the CSU records to show the president may have committed forgery and perjury, two serious allegations that, if proven, would not only result in Mr Tinubu’s dismissal but also could permanently dent his political career.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited had in August said it secured an emergency $3 billion crude oil repayment loan to stabilise the country’s exchange rates.

The Nigerian government has stated that $3billion emergency loan-for-crude oil secured in August would be deployed to stabilise the naira.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited had in August said it secured an emergency $3 billion crude oil repayment loan to stabilise the country’s exchange rates.

The company had said this in a tweet, adding that the $3 billion was from AFREXIM Bank, the trade finance bank for Africa.

According to NNPCL, the money will be used to increase the value of the country’s currency, naira, at the international market.

However, the Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, while speaking to Journalists at the end of 136th National Economic Council meeting held on Thursday at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja said the $3billion that was taken in order to stabilise the naira would be put to use.

He asserted that the National Economic Council had affirmed that the $3bn emergency loan-for-crude oil the Federal Government secured in August would be deployed to stabilise the naira, whose value had continued to fluctuate in the Investors & Exporters’ window and worsened in the parallel market, hitting N1000/$ earlier this month.

He said, “So, we are very confident and we still believe very strongly that with the plan that will come out and with all these items that have been listed on the improvement of revenue, the $3bn shall be useful to us down the line.”

Asked when the intervention would kick in and if there would be a need for a supplementary budget, Sule said “The $3bn that was taken in order to stabilise the naira. As you have seen we have a new team at the CBN and the new team that is just coming in is asking for a little bit of time in order to work out the modalities.

“It is one thing to take the loan, it is another to plan the process of the stabilisation because it’s going to take a while. The CBN governor was just confirmed a few days back and he started rolling out his plans of what to do.”

On the supplementary budget, Sule said, “Supplementary budget is a request that will come as a result of whatever is happening right now. I’m not sure there is a need for a supplementary budget immediately. So far, there have been no supplementary budget requests that were presented to NEC.”

Headless mobs, come here, let me set your head for you, seem you didn't see beyond your hatred, and your hatred for Tinubu is causing you lots of moral damage.
If your enemy wants to dig your down fall, will you give him the support? No....wait, first.....let me put it this way for you. If someone you have help in multiple time, now turn as your enemy because he wants what you have, and since he couldn't get it, he look for ways to bring you down, despite knowing that you worth and deserves it, even if you have all what your enemy are asking for, will you give it to them? No nau.....let just put Atiku and Tinubu case aside, let's try to personalise this case to ourselves, will you give your enemy some vital information about you, just because of they want you down? My people used to say, if you rice has stone, must it come from the mouth of aboki? Does rice grows in desert?
If it is national assembly that was making this call, I wouldn't have bothered, if it was house of rep, that were demanding to know about Tinubu academic records, I would have welcome and support it, or let's say, the demand was coming from Nigerian military, I will not oppose it, but a man, who happened to be a political opponents, no nau, God knows, even if I have all the documents and certificates intact, I will still not want it to be release, I swear. My enemy don't worth anything that I should give any attention to.
But because of hates, most of you calling for Tinubu's head are blind, does this man do you any wrong, does he insult your tribe? What was his sin, that you want Jesus to be put to death and allow a thief to go free?
Let's break it down, obi rigged, Atiku rigged and even do votes buying, Tinubu of course rigged, but because Tinubu won the race, you suddenly hates him, right? And by dragging him dirty, you think, that's what will makes him dirty, have you ever see any man who wrestle with pig and not get dirty? By dragging Tinubu to the mud, you are dragging Nigeria into it and it will affect all of us, America is dirtier than the whole Africa, Britain secrecy is worst than amagedom. Continue your stupidity.
As for me, I'm not a witch, I won't join the hates bandwagon. Obi is not a Saint, Atiku is not a messiah, I wish Tinubu success and victory in all this battle, I pray that may God protect him in this trying time and crown his struggle with power and prosperity. May God bless Nigeria and everyone who love Nigeria.
All of una, now see skuru as scam. No be him se he sabi book. Make de whole world see fowl yansh.

Breaking News : Atiku Abubakar just filed to Magistrate Judge Gilbert on the reason why the judge must sustain the judgment of District court of Illinois and order Chicago state university to release the documents of Mr Bola A Tinubu no later than October 2, 2023.

Tinubu’s lawyer are also expected to respond before the end of today.

Chicago Academic Record: Atiku Plans Fresh Suit Against Tinubu

The legal team of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is planning to file a motion to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s plea for Chicago State University not to release privileged documents in his academic records.

The Special Adviser to Atiku on Public Communications, Phrank Shaibu, disclosing to The PUNCH that the legal team had up to 48 hours to respond to the motion in the US court.

Atiku had earlier secured an order for CSU to make the president’s academic records available to his legal team.

A magistrate, Jeffrey Gilbert, had last week ordered Tinubu’s alma mater to provide all relevant and non-privileged documents to the applicant within two days.

Atiku is currently challenging the victory of the former Lagos State governor at the 2023 presidential poll and his recent affirmation by an election petition court in Nigeria.

The documents sought by the PDP candidate, through his counsel, Angela Liu, include the record of admission and acceptance at the university, dates of attendance including degrees, awards, and honors attained by the former governor of Lagos State at the university, among others.

But as the deadline given by Gilbert drew nearer on Thursday, Tinubu’s lawyers approached Maldonado, arguing that the earlier decision by Gilbert needed to be reviewed by a district judge.

The request for a review and delay of the order till Monday was eventually granted by the US district judge.

Tinubu’s application, filed by his lawyers, Oluwole Afolabi and Christopher Charmichael, advanced two reasons.

First was that his academic records in issue are not useful in Nigerian courts as claimed by Atiku because the Nigerian election proceedings and the Nigerian courts have explicitly been unreceptive to the discovery.

The second reason given was that Atiku’s request is unduly intrusive because it allows Applicant (Atiku) to conduct a fishing expedition into intervenor’s private, confidential, and protected educational records.

When asked on Wednesday to confirm if Atiku has filed the suit as he earlier threatened on Monday, Shaibu reassured our correspondent that the former vice president would submit the motion before midnight.

He said, “I am sure you have seen his application. We are working on our response. We have up till midnight today (Wednesday) to respond to them. And we will.”

On when they expect the court to rule over the matter, Shaibu stated that “It is after we have responded to the court, that it will fix the date and inform the parties.”

When contacted for reaction, Coordinator of Tinubu Presidential Legal Team, Babatunde Ogala, who spoke via phone from his base in the United States told, The PUNCH he would rather not speak on the development.

“As I told you earlier, I am still on vacation,” he said.

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar, has stated that if communities decide to engage themselves in dialogue with bandits or terrorists, the Federal Government “would not be in a haste to condemn such people-driven initiative.

Abubakar however added that the Federal Government did not mandate anyone or group to negotiate with terrorists on its behalf over the abduction of female students of Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State Northwest Nigeria.

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State had accused the Federal Government of secretly negotiating with the Zamfara terrorists to secure the release of the abducted school girls.

The governor had said he had reports that negotiations were being carried out with some terrorists in various local government areas in the state.

But the defence minister, Abubakar in a statement issued through his spokesperson, Suleiman Haruna, accused the governor of “playing politics with the sensitive matter," adding that the “allegation is false and misleading as the Ministry has not mandated anybody or group to negotiate on behalf of Federal Government”.

He said that the Federal Government was doing everything possible to secure the release of the students and others under captive.

Abubakar, however, expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the parents, the academic community, and the entire citizenry of Zamfara State for the tragic abduction.

"The government, however, maintains its resolve to explore every available avenue that can lead to de-escalation of tension and bring back peace to communities ravaged by banditry,” the statement reads.

"However, if communities decide to borrow a leaf from what has helped quench unrest in other parts of the country to engage themselves in dialogue, the Federal Government would not be in a haste to condemn such people-driven initiative
.

“The Minister assures Nigerians that the federal government and its institutions are working assiduously to turn around the current situation and bring an end to the ebbing cases of banditry, kidnapping and all forms of criminality."

The Minister, however, explained that President Bola Tinubu had given marching order to the military and other security agencies to ensure the release of those that were abducted.

He disclosed that the order has started yielding result, noting that 13 of the abducted students and 3 others have been rescued "just this Monday 25, 2023. This feat was achieved through the professional efforts of the Military."

PoliticsBoko Haram Members Ambush Motorists, Kill Soldier, Three Civilians In Borno by ogododo(op): 4:52pm On Sep 24, 2023
Suspected armed members of dreaded Boko Haram terrorists at the weekend ambushed motorists and passengers including soldiers and civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF members during escort along Gwoza- Limankara-Uvaha road, leaving one soldier and three passengers dead. Reliable Source told Vanguard on Sunday.

The terrorists also set ablaze five commercial vehicles including a security patrol vehicle, even as scores of motorists and passengers were either abducted or missing in action.

This is as Senator representing Southern Borno, Mohammed Ali Ndume has called for collaboration between military and youths in Gwoza to end renewed killings in the community.

Sources told Vanguard that the incident took place at about 5pm on Saturday, but due to telecommunication lapses delayed the information till Sunday afternoon.

Recall that last week, a member of the House of Representatives, representing, Gwoza/Chibok/Damboa, Hon Ahmed Jaha raized raised alarm over the killing of 10 farmers within a period of 10 days in Gwoza local government area. This is as the First Class Emir of Gwoza, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta in an interview with Vanguard last week also lamented the slaughtering of farmers during harvesting.

” I can inform you that about three civilians and a soldier were killed in Boko Haram ambush along Gwoza-Limankara-Uvaha road.

“The deceased soldier (names withheld) for security reasons, was among the security agents escorting motorists and passengers before he was shot dead.

“About five commercial vehicles and a patrol vehicle belonging to CJTF were set ablaze, even as scores are still missing in the bush as at Sunday afternoon.

“Presently, our member, representing Gwoza at the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon Abdullahi Buba Abatcha and other concerned personalities have left Maiduguri to Gwoza to sympathize with families of the victims.” The Source said.

Meanwhile, confirming the incident, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South) said, he was informed about the road ambush and other attacks by Boko Haram terrorists, but could not ascertain the number of casualties.

“Yes seriously, I was informed about the road ambush and other attacks by Boko Haram terrorists, but could not ascertain the number of casualties especially the road ambush by terrorists last Saturday in Gwoza.

“I knew that since the rainy season set in, several people particularly farmers in Gwoza were killed by terrorists.

“Although, the military have been doing their best in degrading or eliminating remnants of Boko Haram in the North East, but more need to be done considering the renewed killings in my constituency like Gwoza town.

“I want to also appeal to youths in Gwoza to wake up from their slumber and join the fight against Boko Haram like what Youths in Biu, Hawul, Askira-Uba, Chibok and other local government areas are doing in complementing efforts of security agencies in the fight against terrorism which have brought relative peace in those areas.

“I want to also call on the Local Government authorities in Gwoza to support men of the Civilian JTF, as well as the military to intensify efforts and address the renewed killings in Gwoza and its environs.

“It is regretable to inform you that most of these killings in Gwoza are perpetrated by Youths in Gwoza who have joined Boko Haram and refused to surrender as witnessed in recent times. Therefore, i reiterate that Youths in Gwoza should please stop demonstration or rioting whenever there was an attack, rather, they should join the forefront in the fight against Boko Haram like what is obtainable in many communities.

“My appeal to the military is to deploy more troops in Gwoza so that they can finish the work they have started, so that these intermittent attacks on our farmers will stop. People are seriously living in fear, they are scared of going about their economic activities, our farmers are no longer going to their farms to harvest their crops due to fear of the unknown, and is very worrisome.” Senator Ndume lamented.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Liverpool Vs West Ham (3 - 1) On 24th September 2023 by ogododo(op): 9:06pm On Sep 23, 2023
Liverpool have not exactly made things easy for themselves this season, but they say it’s a sign of champions to win without playing well. The excitement building around Anfield will reach fever pitch if Jürgen Klopp’s Reds can make it five Premier League wins on the spin against West Ham on Sunday.

Having overcome red cards to beat Bournemouth and Newcastle United in August, Liverpool found themselves in trouble once again at Molineux last week. They trailed Wolves at the break after Pedro Neto ran rings around Joe Gomez and Joël Matip, but as is so often the case, Klopp’s team found a way to escape a sticky situation.

The introductions of Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez transformed Liverpool’s attack, with goals from Cody Gakpo and Andy Robertson – plus a late Hugo Bueno own goal – sealing their fourth successive league win. They have claimed the most points from losing positions (nine) in the Premier League this season, winning all three games they’ve trailed in (also doing so versus Bournemouth and Newcastle).

Though parts of Liverpool’s 2022-23 campaign were nightmarish, they enjoyed a strong end to the season and this summer’s midfield rebuild has contributed to a confident mood at Anfield. Liverpool are on the longest current unbeaten run in the Premier League (16 matches), recording 11 wins and five draws since a 4-1 defeat at Manchester City in April.

Liverpool should be further boosted by the returns of several defensive mainstays this week. Captain Virgil van Dijk is available for selection after serving an extended two-match ban following his red card at Newcastle, while Ibrahima Konaté came off the bench last week and played 80 minutes of the UEFA Europa League win at LASK on Thursday. Trent Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, is hoping to return after a hamstring issue sidelined him against Wolves.

Further forward, Liverpool will be looking for Mohamed Salah to continue providing creativity – no player has bettered the Egyptian’s tally of four Premier League assists this season after he teed up two goals at Molineux.
PoliticsTravel Advisory: US Warns Citizens Not To Visit Enugu, Imo, Borno, 15 Others by ogododo(op): 10:37am On Sep 23, 2023
The US Department of State has advised Americans to reconsider travelling to Nigeria “due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, and armed gangs.”

Following its travel advisory update done on Wednesday, the US noted that some areas “have increased risk”.

It advised its citizens against travelling to Borno, Yobe, Kogi, and northern Adamawa states due to terrorism and kidnapping; Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara states due to kidnapping; Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Enugu, Imo, and Rivers states (with the exception of Port Harcourt) due to crime, kidnapping, and armed gangs.

It further noted that “violent crime – such as armed robbery, assault, carjacking, kidnapping, hostage taking, roadside banditry, and rape – is common throughout the country.”

It said: “Kidnappings for ransom occur frequently, often targeting dual national citizens who have returned to Nigeria for a visit, as well as U.S. citizens with perceived wealth. Kidnapping gangs have also stopped victims on interstate roads.

“Terrorists continue plotting and carrying out attacks in Nigeria. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting shopping centers, malls, markets, hotels, places of worship, restaurants, bars, schools, government installations, transportation hubs, and other places where crowds gather.

“Terrorists are known to work with local gangs to expand their reach.

“There are civil unrest and armed gangs in parts of Southern Nigeria, especially in the Niger Delta and Southeast regions. Armed criminality and gangs, including kidnapping and assaults on Nigerian security services, are also pervasive in this region.

“Violence can flare up between communities of farmers and herders in rural areas.

“The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in many areas of Nigeria due to security conditions.”

‘Keep low profile’
It, however, advised citizens who still choose to travel to Nigeria to: “Carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport with a current Nigerian visa, if needed.

“Use caution when walking or driving at night; keep a low profile; Review travel routes and times to vary your predictability; Do not physically resist any robbery attempt; Be extra vigilant when visiting banks or ATMs.

“Monitor local media for breaking events and be prepared to adjust your plans; Be aware of your surroundings; Stay alert in locations frequented by Westerners; Avoid demonstrations and large political gatherings; Review your personal security plans.

“Have evacuation plans that do not rely on U.S. government assistance. Establish a “proof of life” protocol with your loved ones, so that if you are taken hostage, your loved ones know specific questions (and answers) to ask the hostage-takers to be sure that you are alive (and to rule out a hoax).”

Regarding Borno, Yobe, Kogi, and Northern Adamawa states, the US insisted that the security situation in the states was “fluid and unpredictable due to widespread terrorist activity, inter-communal violence, and kidnapping. Security operations to counter these threats may occur without warning.”

PoliticsPresidency Withdraws Statement On Tinubu As First African Leader To Ring NASDAQ by ogododo(op): 6:11pm On Sep 22, 2023
The presidency has apologised for a claim that President Bola Tinubu was the first African leader to ring the bell at the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (NASDAQ).

On Tuesday, shortly after performing the act, a statement released by Ajuri Ngelale, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, claimed Tinubu as the “first African president ever to receive the honour”.

However, contrary to Ngelale’s claim, Jakaya Kiwete, former president of Tanzania, rang the NASDAQ closing bell in 2011.

In a statement on Friday, the presidency said the error was “deeply regretted”.

“We inadvertently referred to President Bola Tinubu as the first African leader to ring the bell at NASDAQ on Wednesday in New York, based on the information provided by a third-party event organiser.

“We have since found out that this information was/is incorrect as a former African leader has indeed had the privilege. This error is sincerely regretted,” the statement said.
