lionlee216: MSc in technology management Technology Management or Engineering Management is simply a form of MBA specially designed for technical professionals (Engineers and Scientists). It is especially designed for working professionals who want to transition into a managerial or leadership role later in their career. Engineering Management would be fun for you if you have a strong statistics and optimization background. |

Let's talk like Nigerians please.
When you pass JAMB and get admission into a university, do you know which classes you would be taking before registration? After you get admission for masters, do you know the classes you will be taking before resumption or registration? So, it is normal if any NIGERIAN does not know which classes she will be taking in her first year; that's just how we were brought up. So, don't let us make it seem like whoever doesn't know the classes she will be taking in the first year is not serious or genuine. Most people know about this question about classes because they read this thread.
In 2010 or thereabout, the VOs ask questions about the states bordering your schools. Who would expect such question in an interview? Most NL'ers were able to answer because of the transcripts posted here.
How many schools did you apply to? Most people honestly applied to one but were denied because of that. This thread has proved that the VO wants you to say that you applied to 3 or more schools even when you know deep inside you that you applied to just one. Many of us won't know this if we didn't visit this thread.
I can go on and on but I think passing the interview depends mostly on how prepared you are and mostly by reading other people's transcripts, it goes a long way. While it is not compulsory to post your transcript after visa issuance; I feel it is immoral not to after gaining much from here. But who am I to complain, to each its own. |

LagosNIV: Some applicants get so "prepared" that they can't answer the questions that are being asked of them. They just want to give their rehearsed speeches. Don't be that applicant. It's a sure way to get refused a visa.
It's really quite a simple process; you fill out your own application, you answer the questions honestly, and then the determination is made if you qualify for the visa or not under U.S. law. That is not to say that everyone who answers honestly is qualified, because they aren't necessarily, but once you start making up crazy stories or telling lies it no longer matters if you are qualified. Plenty of applicants that are probably qualified get refused every day because they think they need to craft a story and it doesn't make sense. Unfortunately, many people who got their visas approved are those who make up crazy stories and tell lies - it's the hard truth. |

Your HND will be equivalent to a-US-4-year degree if converted by WES. Many U.S schools also consider the HND to be equal to a bachelors degree; you only have to search very well and apply to those schools.
Good luck. |

Bussy123: I am not a student, but will advice you to start applying to company at least a year before. Some companies ask for application to be submitted early. Example, my company which is a fortune 200 ask engineering interns to submit there application a year before. So u can start looking now, submit applications, look for companies coming to ur school to recruit and makes use of LinkedIn. You posted this on May 17. Bussy123: Hi all,
I recently accepted an offer into graduate program (PhD) in chemistry. I was offered a financial support as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) or Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) with stipend. In short, its fully funded.
What are the embassy requirements please? How can I prove strong tie to my country? My education has been back to back, I recently completed Master in Chemistry (graduated in September) in UI but still carrying out researches and writing papers (Journals) so I am not doing any paid job now.
What advice can you guys give when it comes to embassy in Lagos? so far my PhD is fully funded with monthly stipend, do I have to present huge back statement to embassy? What are the documents that I should provide or take to the embassy with me?
Looking forward to hear from you guy. Thanks Did you get the job in a fortune 200 after May 17? Just curious since your education has been back to back. |

fizzile: yeah I had a low gpa, and I went as far as doing a pgd and had a gud gpa,whc was actually 3.87. The issue I also faced was I applied for msc in environmental science and since I did a pgd in geography and environmental science, they assessed the course module and realized it was more of geography. That's where most Universities in Nigeria get somethings wrong with respect to their modules. So its not like they wouldn't hv taken me. Just that a few factors contributed. I applied to schools dat accept 2.5 but same issues came up. The psychological effect was just unbearable my brother. Talking about BS-PhD,I still disagree with you. Have actually a couple of schools that accept Msc-PhD,even a UK Msc. If it gets to that level, I wouldn't mind tendering both my BSc,PGD and MSc. But for the Msc in d US,its crystal clear what the outcomes are. A couple of guys here have also agreed with the circumstances and advised on alternatives. Oya Bless me!! U know say u b baba. Bless me just like bigfrancis and Mekurexx did. Waiting. Forget modules in America bro. If you had a good GPA and GRE scores, they will accept you. In America, you can have your under grad in business and go for a graduate degree in geology. You only have to take some undergrad classes to make up for it. If the schools you applied to wanted a 2.5, that means your GPA was way below that for them not to accept you. I want to believe you presented your "unevaluated" transcript like that to the schools. If these schools evaluated the transcripts themselves, I can bet it with you, your final GPA would probably be around 1.3 or 1.5 and no school would accept that. More reason why I told you earlier to evaluate your transcript before applying to any schools at all. But since you want me to agree with you and bless you; Fizzile, bless you. |

fizzile: Well,if its so,what's the difference? Been spending money on app fee, sending documents here and there and still got denied.. Funny enof it seems dey don't recognize pgd. So what's the need spending money. I don't think your totally right. Most schools in the US accept ur masters degree for a PhD program. Not necessarily tendering ur undergraduate result. There is a difference. It is easier to continue your studies after MS if your school is a PhD granting institution. You would have already build a relationship with your professors and that will help you a lot during the application process. Even if you don't meet the requirements, they can over look your BS GPA and "patch" you in. And I am not saying that you would be inadmissible, I am only saying that getting a UK degree doesn't mean that your undergrad would be overlooked. I am not sure any school would ask for only your masters result without looking at your undergrad. As a matter of fact, it is usually the other way round. BS-PhD without masters. You applied to the wrong schools bro. All the schools you applied to clearly spelled it out that they need a 3.0, the least was 2.8. You shouldn't have applied to those schools in the first place and you would have saved yourself the money you "spent". The key is to look for a school that accepts your GPA and apply to them. Good luck. |

I'm not saying you should stop your UK application but I still think you didn't do your HW well. All you need to do is go to msinus.com (don't go to grad café, those folks profiles are intimidating). Look for schools that accept a GPA of 2.0 and 2.5, and you will be fine. |

You are right. Personally, I don't think there is a magic to getting a job as an F-1 student. What I always tell folks is this:
- Apply to as many jobs as you can.
- Do not stop applying until you get a job and have signed the dotted line.
- Create a spreadsheet and include all the companies that you have applied to. Have a separate column for: waiting to hear from HR, application not successful, scheduled interview, rejection bla bla bla.
- The spread sheet will allow you track all your applications to avoid applying to a company more than once.
- Your resume should be constantly modified to fit the job requirements of the job that you are applying for. Therefore, you will be having many resume types. Also include the type of resume that you submitted for each of the jobs that you applied for in the spreadsheet.
- Have a strong LinkedIn profile, constantly check with and register with several recruiting agencies. Also constantly check jobs websites (e.g. Indeed.com) for new jobs.
Generally, engineering and IT graduates are the luckiest of all with OPT and H1B. It's just what it is.
Warning: You may have applied to 500 jobs and not be successful, don't give up, don't get discouraged. Just keep applying until you get that call or letter that your application is successful. Winners never quit. |

justwise: He asked you to post that on his behalf? That is another way of going round the ban. That makes a mockery of the ban.
He is not serving a 50 years ban as you incorrectly stated in that post, his ban expires on the 13th of July 2016. You banned him simply because he was adding people to a particular Facebook group; my post was about his visa approval (no similarity). Whether he instructed me to post or not is inconsequential. My post was for other people to learn from his successful interview, and that should supersede any type of ban since it is going to be to the benefit of the thread, and the Nairaland Forum as a whole. And you actually quoted the 50 years ban? Where is your sense of humor? |

Their salary is like a cool 32 million every month so its not a financial burden to him. Is that a correct way to answer? No, you don't need that. Fizzile,
It is apparent that there is something wrong with your application.
I see that you have a 2.5 CGPA. Is that a Naija 2.5 out of 5.0? If it is a Naija 2.5, the schools are probably seeing toO many Ds and Es on your transcript. If it is a WES converted 2.5 CGPA, then, you are applying to the wrong schools. With this low GPA, are you expecting some sort of funding? If NO, then you should be looking at CSU Los Angeles, CSU San Bernandino any of the schools in the California State University System. I know most of the CSUs still accept applicationS for fall and MOST are flexible when it comes to CGPA.
Good luck. |

Is this a good time to buy Oando PLC shares?
They have a 52 week low of 2.90 and a high of 20.48
They traded between 4.28 and 4.50 today and closing at 4.30.
They have some debts that are huge but long term which is not uncommon in the oil industry.
Something tells me the stocks would jump us soon as the price of oil gradually goes up.
