Ricky Rozay: Thanks bro. I have only spent just 20 days in the United States of America and I'm already seeing my name and pics in a newspaper here in Minnesota! The director of international admissions of my school showed me a newspaper today which had my name and pics taken with other staffs on it while I was working @ the campus kitchen, welcoming me as the first New student in their school on the newspaper. My head just dey swell. God is great! When even my shadow no even show on top any 9ja newspaper. Lol.
That is great. That is a stepping stone, you are going places.

imperiouxx: God is great. Lots of ground to break. Give me 4 more years here. You will see me side by side with the next president of the US smiling in pictures.
Mark my words!
It is not impossible. Be true to who you are, embrace your success, keep your head up, you can achieve anything if you truly believe in it.

You don't have to apply for a second degree. You can apply to pharmaceutical sciences graduate schools with your chemistry background.

You should talk to Imperiouxx.

imperiouxx: That's taking chances that I always love to hate. angry angry angry
Thank you oo my brother. Remember someone here was in a similar situation few weeks ago. I pointed out the red flags and he said the V.O won't pay attention to that. His case is even more than sponsorship. There are so many red flags in his application. He should be ready for more questions in his second attempt. Hope you had a fantastic Xmas.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by OjaP:
bimbola85: Thanks so much OjaP but I think that is already late now. There is no way I can make the Spring 2014 if I'm to inform the school about the mistake if that's not how they normally do their Provisional Admissions I-20. My interview is Jan 6th as I said earlier on this thread nd the school is on break rite now nd not resuming until the 6th I guess, that is the same day I will be having my interview. I don't think I can get any earlier interview date before 14th because I had to requested for an emergency appointment before getting the 6th of Jan from the Jan 10th I first got.
I'm thinking I can explain the situation to the VO and hopefully God will back me up cos the school don't do Summer admission and that means I will have to defer to Fall 2014 if I don't want to go with the I-20 @ my hand.
I will email my advisor and maybe God will make her reply me just to clarify this mixed up. What do you think OjaP?
They issue you a visa based on the length of your studies as indicated on your I-20. Most F-1 Nigerian applicants are issued a 2 year visa whether going for a bachelors or advanced degree. I'm not sure a V.O would issue a F-1 visa if he/she sees a 4 month duration on your I-20. It is better to defer than to be denied.

bimbola85: I'm sure U all enjoying dis festive season. There's a concern abt my admission letter nd my I-20. The MSCJ programme I'm going for is for 16months but my I-20 states that the normal length of study is 4months.
You may have to cancel your appointment and get the "length of study" on your I-20 changed/corrected. Most graduate I-20s read between 24-36 months.

bimbola85: Thank you so much bro nd jst take note of that. Will definitely bomb d V.O with that as soon as he/she ask me a question dat I could easily add dat to. U're highly appreciated
You bet!!
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by OjaP:
Mr. Abimbola

You have come up with some strong points. The only thing you may want to do is to bring these points up as early as you can. You don't want to wait till when the V.O ask you that, you can actually force him/her to dance to your tune.

Why did you choose the school?

Remind the VO that the United States recently just declared Boko Haram as a terrorist group. Your thesis is going to be on security, intelligence gathering and counter-terrorism using Nigeria as a case-study. You will be working with Prof. XXXX who's a renowned Prof. of Criminology in the US. The result of your research would be included in your thesis, and you plan on submitting your recommendations to the Nigeria State Security Service, Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Army. Ultimately, you look forward to working with the Nigeria State Security Service upon graduation.

Every other thing seems to be in order except that you want to tell the VO you were accepted in all the schools you applied to but chose SJUP because of your research interest. Good luck and I wish you a happiest and merry xmas.

kpolli: Question was does web ranking really tell a lot about real academic strength? Didn't say compare and contrast standard of Education in Nigeria and here......

The bolded part wasn't necessary....

I do not see any ASUU in the question....
Mr. Kpolli,

You are so right about that. I guess Imperiouxx did not just take his time to explain well. That I have done in my post above.

Anywhoo, I should let you know that what caught my attention in that post of yours was the word "bashing". I only mentioned ASUU just to buttress the fact that our education system is in a mess.

If you are familiar with my style of writing, you would know that I always write people's monikers in bold. Enjoy your night sir.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by OjaP:
rubenic: @all I have been following this thread for a while now. I however observed that a lot of students on this thread applied or are applying to schools whose web ranking (4icu ratings) are quite low in my opinion (ratings greater than 1000). Please don't get me wrong, am also a prospective student... I just want to know if web ranking really tells alot about the real academic strenght of a University.
This boils down to your definition of academic strength. Most of these rankings are based on so many factors which include the quality of researches, funds and endowments, alumnus, number of graduates getting a job right after graduation to mention a few. Because of these factors, one would expect universities such as Harvard and Cambridge to be on top of the list because they have been in existence for long.

These schools have millions of dollars to spend on cutting edge researches compared to other universities that are not in the top 1000's. We all know that Harvard, MIT, Stanford etc are 3 of the best colleges in the world but you should know better that not all of us can get into such schools. This does not mean that other schools are not good as well.

After all, the reason most of us are going to school is to be educated, and ultimately get a very good job after school. If many Americans and Nigerians schooling in the US can get that in schools that is not a-Harvard or a-Penn State, then I don't think we should worry too much. After all, the US degree is widely accepted and recognized all over the world compared to Nigerian degrees. I guess this is what Imperiouxx was trying to point out.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by OjaP: 9:14am On Dec 23, 2013
kpolli: Was the question comparing the 2 countries standard of education?
Whether or not he answered the question being asked, I just think Imperiouxx has not in anyway bashed our dear country NIGERIA as you've claimed. You may not be in agreement with his comparison, but the fact is that what he said about how the Nigerian government pay little attention to education is true. Only in Nigeria would Academic Staff Union of Universities go on strike for 5 months.

I honestly don't see that as bashing. These are known facts.
